GW2 website is adding VAT on top of its "VAT inclusive" prices right before purchase confirmation Posted: 28 Mar 2021 07:54 PM PDT TL:DR - Anet is advertising prices as being VAT incl. based off of Ireland's 23% VAT rate but customers are being charged VAT a second time just before they confirm their purchase. Someone purchasing from Ireland is charged an additional 23% VAT price of $98.39 instead of the "VAT Incl" price of $79.99 for the PoF: Ultimate upgrade. I have seen a few posts on the forums complaining about this issue but they only receive a handful of replies before the thread dies off. They also fail to mention that the website explicitly states the following when you are reviewing your purchase: "The price indicated for any digital products includes anticipated VAT based on the Irish VAT rate of 23 %. The applicable VAT rate may change during the course of the shopping session if you are in another location. To see how we calculate VAT, please click here. " This "VAT incl" price is also displayed on the page you enter your payment details where it is referred to as "Sub-Total Incl. VAT ". The price only changes when you are asked to confirm your purchase a 2nd time after filling in your payment details. In case you are wondering if this has to do with strange international purchase regulations - it doesn't. Anet is even adding additional VAT if you set your region as Ireland, despite claiming that their prices are based off of Ireland's 23% VAT rate. When your region is set to Ireland, the cost of purchasing Path of Fire: Ultimate upgrade is increased from $79.99 to $98.39 - 23%.
Edit: Thanks to the replies I have gotten, it appears that the additional VAT is only paid by regions charged the $ price. Regions charged in Euros do not receive the additional VAT cost. This comment by Mike O'Brien now seems relevant: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/wp1oo/do_you_think_gems_are_too_expensive_for_eu_zone/c5fay5u?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 However I still think that the website is deliberately misleading. Here is a screenshot of what a person paying in dollars is presented on checkout: https://imgur.com/ezlNUAf Once they provide their payment details they are then presented with a relevant VAT markup despite the previous page claiming to be VAT incl: https://imgur.com/sGFvy2P Based on the evidence and Mike O'Brien's old comment, I don't think Anet is trying to maliciously charge additional VAT. The €79.99 price tag which does not get VAT added evens out pretty much with the $79.99 + %VAT fee. The website does however need to be updated to not describe the $ price as being VAT inclusive during checkout. [link] [comments]

Runecrafter's vs. Silver-fed profit analysis (yet another) Posted: 29 Mar 2021 04:25 AM PDT TL;DR - With the upcoming (today!) infinite salvage tools sale, I make crude assumptions on how to evaluate the profit of salvaging 1000 rare items with either of those, taking into account not only ectos but also upgrade salvaging. When salvaging rares, Silver-fed is 7.7% more profitable than Runecrafter's in terms of ecto output. Upgrade salvaging results reduces the margin to 6.2% . These values consider the cost differences between the salvaging tools. I do not go into the discussion about the cost of each salvage tool when compared alongside with Mystic salvage kit, as the price of mystic forge stone is (in my opinion) very uncertain. I am part of the school who thinks that convenience has its price. The analysis is of course prone to my math errors. Any criticism is welcome. I do not attempt to encourage anyone to buy one or the other (I myself do not owe any of them because I just came back to the game a few months ago!), and this analysis is purely for recreational use. Let's do a benchmark of 1000 rare items that can produce ectos upon salvage. Let's use an ecto value of 21.20 silvers, and use the wiki value of an average of 0.875 ectos per rare item for Mystic salvage kit, which is equivalent to Silver-fed. Now, since Runecrafter's rare material chance is 5% lower, we need to account for that. EDIT: Found a reference for ectos with Runecrafter's. This study shows that the drop rate is 0.8 ectos/rare with Runecrafter's. Runecrafter's vs. Silver-fed benchmark summary: Number of rare items - 1000 Ecto value - 21.20 silvers Number of ectos per rare - Silver-fed - 0.875 Number of ectos per rare - Runecrafter's - 0.8 So the numbers are: Silver-fed:Number of ectos = 875 Raw gold before usage = 185.5g Usage cost = 6g Total gold after usage = 179.5 Runecrafter's:Number of ectos = 800 Raw gold before usage = 169.6g Usage cost = 3g Total gold after usage = 166.6g So from this simplistic benchmark, without taking into account the gem cost, Silver-fed results are 7.7% more profitable in terms of ectos. Let's try to add the 20% difference of upgrade salvaging into the mix. Let's assume that each rare item has one major sigil/rune. According to the salvage research for sigils and runes in the wiki, one gets 1.87 lucent motes per sigil and 1.69 per rune. Let's take a weighted average of that, weighting by the number of samples in each research. The turns into 1.78 lucent motes per salvage. For symbols/charms it is 0.03 per salvage. Now for charms and symbols I'm going to use this reddit research. It confirms that there is no difference in the quality of the salvaged rune/sigil between different salvaging tools. However, it's been harder to find a solid distribution for symbols/charms. I'm going to use results from this study, although it should be taken with a grain of salt as the statistics is pretty low and this was done on weapon levels of 77 and above. Also I assume that the chance of finding a rare weapon is the same as a rare armor. I use the following values for each symbol/charm: Symbol of Enhancement - 4.55 silver Symbol of Pain - 16.92 silver Symbol of Control - 35.35 silver Charm of Brilliance - 79 silver Charm of Potence - 19.78 silver Charm of Skill - 16.48 silver With the given distribution, the average profit from any of the above is 27.1 silver. Lucent motes are valued at 8 copper. So let's get back to our benchmark. With 1.78 lucent motes and 0.03 symbols/charms per salvage, we get Silver-fed (80% chance):Number of lucent motes = 1424 Number of symbols/charms = 24 Total value = 7.6432 gold Runecrafter's (100% chance):Number of lucent motes = 1780 Number of symbols/charms = 30 Total value = 9.554 gold So, the summary of this calculation I have done of the profit from ectos & upgrade salvages of 1000 rare items: With Silver-fed, after usage cost = 187.1432 gold With Runecrafter's, after usage cost = 176.154 gold [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Mar 2021 08:28 AM PDT My question is this: What game to you play when GW2 is down or when you need a break for a bit. What is your go to alternative game? Just curious. I have a lot of games I have played and/or cycled through over the years and several new ones I am looking forward to. I am pretty sure that GW2 is the game I have invested the most real money into, so far. How about you? [link] [comments]

How are people playing pvp "offline"? Posted: 29 Mar 2021 08:11 AM PDT So when I team up in pvp I will often notice when hovering over a team mate that they are marked as "offline". I don't really understand how that's possible? Are these bots? Or what is going on here? [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Mar 2021 07:02 AM PDT Hello, I've been wondering this for awhile and haven't found or got a answer for it so I thought I should just ask the masses. Is there a way to unlock all the skins for the DragonFall mist shard armor skins? I messed up and I got a mix of skins and now I realized there isn't a clear way on how you can get the rest of the sets, or if you even can. [link] [comments]
Any hint what to keep in bags? (I just constantly run out of space..) Posted: 29 Mar 2021 06:42 AM PDT Hi guys, Im long term player (i play since beginning, taking some longer (monthly or 2) breaks between playing from time to time). I have all bag slots filled up with bags (not sure if the biggest ones, but I think 18-20 slots each -not remember true count). I keep in bags most of quest items, event teleport "invitations", boosts etc, some exotic skin weapons and other "skin only items".. Also second set on my necro, where I switch between condi and power.. I carry all this by me and I have only like 6-10 slots open left for loot which I salvage and store/sell mats always to make room for another loot.. How do you manage your bags, whats actualy worth carrying and what should i just drop and destroy if not sellable? I have bought copper fed 'o' matic and some cosmetics and infinite gathering tools, but newer bought any bank or mat tabs.. if this would solve the issue, im not sure.. Im just not sure I would not need some of those things later :D (but when saying that, im thinking some of these are there for few years already without any use :) [link] [comments]

Coming back after break over and over again, and it’s always a blast! Posted: 28 Mar 2021 01:29 PM PDT Hey guys! Just want to say thanks to this epic community!!!! I tend to have long breaks (at least 2-3 months) after burning me out somehow. But every time I come back I get a warm welcome from old friends, getting my dumb questions answered and feel like I never quit. Today I spent 2 hours sitting in queensdale and plains of ashford just to chat with new players, giving them a bit of my gold and some bags. Now I start to farm the LW currencies to finally get the damn scyscale after I work on it since it got released. I am hyped about this year, to get stuff done before the expansion. And I hope I don't get burned out of Gw2 this Time. At least not so fast. Thanks for reading. [link] [comments]

Question about Bubble Projectile blocking in PvP/WvW and positioning Posted: 28 Mar 2021 01:34 PM PDT there are a few Projectile denial bubbles in the game, with different radius and shapes. Warrior has Winds of Disenchantment is a giant bubble. I was wondering if two enemies are inside the bubble, will it still destroy enemy projectiles? Or can a enemy counter a bubble by stepping into the bubble if the warrior is also in the bubble? In other words, does WoD only block projectiles from outside coming in? What about Ventari Revenant bubble. Its a mobile bubble. But can it block projectiles while the bubble is overtop enemies or do enemies need to be outside the bubble for it to block? There are other bubbles in the game i didnt mention, but if you have information on them as well on positioning, please share [link] [comments]
