Its ok to be new to T4 Fractals

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 04:56 AM PST

It is not ok to lie to your group and try to be all sneaky about not knowing the mechanics. Seriously guys, if you are new just say it most groups dont have problems with new players on T4 but some fractals like Sirens Reef or The reactor or Sunqua are a pain if the whole group is new to some fights, If you say you are new when joining the group Im sure you can get a decent explanation of the mechanics and about how to get the best skills to face certain bosses and that helps the healer to be extra prepared just in case.

I just discovered that the 3 characters I made when GW2 launched now have 9 years worth of anniversary gifts each!

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 09:16 AM PST

I only played a few hours on launch and I only 3 weeks ago revisited the game, I have had fun with a new char that is now lv 80.

I randomly looged in to one of the old chars and OMG.

I have so much stuff! full sets of heavy, medium, light luminous skins! 10x luminous weapon skins!

I unlocked all those special backpack skins too!

    Hella dyes! Level boosters galore!

    And so. much. karma.

Anyway how are your sundays going?

I'm a bit fresh in GW2 (3-months) but it has already granted me a skill that impresses people at work.

The ability to differentiate a wide variety of colors.

I was in a MS teams meeting when suddenly I said:

"I think we can remove the data from the column that looks like cherry vanilla"

I then derailed the meeting by having everyone argue if it's peach or what.

PSA on not using a certain VPN

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 11:30 AM PST

    The VPN is called Windscribe.

Recently my account got blocked for security purpose with Error Code: 3023:1012:6:385 which suggested me to contact customer service (CS). So I did, but CS told me that they closed my account and wont be able to help me any more regarding that. So I asked for explanation on why that was closed and also asked the ticket to be escalated. That didn't solve the issue as the new reply from CS said that the issue has been reviewed to the highest degree and they wont be able to help me any longer.

So I searched the internet for similar stories and found that the error code means my account got flagged during regular automated security checks. These are usually triggered when the user uses VPN or connects from new location. Most of the time the accounts get unblocked but very few times the account get closed like mine. When the accounts do get unblocked CS suggests something like using VPN is not prohibited but sometimes accounts will get flagged for doing fraudulent activities and permanently closed.

Unfortunately I did use VPN couple of days before the account block. The VPN I used is called Windscribe, which is a great (and free) VPN but I highly suggest not to run GW2 while using that. I believe TOS violators have used this VPN and got the IPs provided the VPN flagged by ANet for fraudulent activity.

It sucks that it is me who is found it out the hard way and right before EOD, but at least I hope this post will save few more accounts from closing.

When doing the HoT Meta Rotation (VB -> TD -> AB ) do the Hero Point Challenges after Chak Gerent and before Tarir Meta for additional ~5 Gold per day

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 07:30 AM PST

If you do the Hot Rotation and it sometimes annoys you that you always have a long downtime between the meta events, I might have a solution for you.

After the Chak Gerent and before Tarir Meta it is worth completing the hero points on the respective maps. This is especially about the hero points that spawn a champion. These hero points have a daily cooldown and reward the player with loot after successful completion, even if you already had the hero point before.

Because of the meta you also have enough people on the map to finish the hero point champion fast and without problems.

Question about Home Instances for the Masses

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 03:54 PM PST

As someone who's been working towards filling up their home instance I see a bunch of people advertising Full Instances and was wondering:

What do you consider to be a full instance?
A: Paid and Free instance nodes, so full paid nodes through BL and BLC as well as earned nodes through Vendors and Achievements.
B: Free instance nodes, so anything that can be earned through achievements and in-game vendors.

If you entered an instance of the latter, how upset would you be if their paid content was limited?

Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire from Amazon - does it include The Icebrood Saga?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 02:24 PM PST

    Hi,

My friend bought Path of Fire at Amazon:

    https://www.amazon.com/Guild-Wars-Path-Fire-Online/dp/B074KLPK3R

    It says that it includes:

    • Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire
    • Free Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
    • Living World: The Icebrood Saga
    • Max-Level Boost

Similar pack is sold on the official website but it does not mention The Icebrood Saga.

Is it a mistake on Amazon's side?

@ANet Devs: Thank You for Beta Demoing the EoD Specs (Even If I / You Don't Get Exactly What We Want!)

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 05:35 PM PST

I want to emphasize that like most people (including likely the devs) think the specs are obviously not done & far from 100% polished.

BUT I will take the previews that we got over nothing & am quite grateful for them. Also obviously you can't give everyone exactly what they want & that words are easy & work's hard.

So thank you, for listening to community feedback on these. Even if I / you reading this / whoever don't end up getting exactly what we want!!

    • Signed: Pseudo + Whoever else signs their name in the comments. ;)

P.S. Please, if possible, retune & update some of the less useful stuff on core kits in the future! <3

    Specter extensive feedback after beta

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 08:15 PM PST

Hi! I'd like to preface my feedback for Specter with a few things.

Firstly, even though I mainly play PvE my feedback isn't so much about strength and weakness in any specific game mode but an overall design feedback for the class.

Next, I do NOT think this class is BAD and in fact is has many unique and POSITIVE aspects. This is meant to be an overall positive and constructive post!

Most proposals to improve or fix are based on what I have discussed with other players and gleaned from CMC/teapot's discussion about the new classes. If you want to view it, I believe it's on Teapot's yt channel.

Another thing, I'm not really going to talk about numbers/damage because that is something easily subjected to change. The focus is on class/mechanic design.

Lastly, I love thief and everything about it and I am SUPER excited about Specter. I honestly just want it to reach all the potential I believe it has!

    Strengths and positives of Specter

    • RWV (Rot Wallow Venom) is a really cool unique damage buff that allows the class to output damage whist doing their supporting.
    • Really neat synergy with the Shadow Arts trait line. Like shadow step heals, stealth to grant barrier.
    • Nice synergy with trickery! As Specter doesn't have much bleed in their kit, the GM trait is freed out of the bleed dmg increase trait and you have more choices.
    • Siphon is really cool with the ally target
    • Access to wells. Good utility, alac boon support and trait synergy with all the shadow steps
    • Traits are spread quite nicely across all 3 lines. Allowing quite a lot of flexibility in the build.
    • All sceptre skills are really solid, cool animation too
    • Ally targeting is unique and has potential

Now to talk about what isn't so great and would benefit a lot from some revision/rework. Any potential solutions here are not extensive! Here I'll talk about utility skills, ally targeting/endless night and shroud.

    Utility skills

    Well of bounty

Outside group content setting this skill is far too weak. Because it only grants one single new (not random, there is a set order of application) boon per pulse it wouldn't be very useful in a setting where you and your ally need to move around like PvP and open world.

    Potential solutions

    • rework and split the well into 2 separate utility skills. 1 for offensive and defensive boons that either grant all or multiple boons

    • Just allow multiple boons per pulse

Well or Tears (the "power well")

This needs to go. Specter is condi/support focussed and has no need for a utility which does nothing more than some power damage. The base damage is abysmal and scales horribly making it feel like nothing more than a throw away skill to grant alacrity.

    Potential solutions

    • increase the base damage. Other than that, it would probably be better off replaced with something more fitting to Spec.

Well of Silence and Shadow Fall

These 2 skills on their own are solid. The issue with them is they are a highly similar skill, both providing a large amount of CC, one mostly soft CC and the other strong CC.

Them being quite similar makes WoS feel like another alac filler well.

    Ally Targeting and Endless Night

Whilst new mechanics are exciting, as many have been saying- there needs to be a better support system for allied targeting. If the devs wasn't to make an elite spec with a heavy focus on this, they NEED a fluid ally target system. In the Teapot and CMC stream there was mention that this will be looked at. Honestly, that should be vital info anet addresses and lets the community know and not tucked away in a single stream.

Another point CMC noted was that they don't want Specter to be strong in quickness and alacrity giving and that they decided it to be alac not quick. This is perfectly valid and understandable! He also said the switching between party members to apply high quickness uptime was not the intention. However, it's very questionable to put quickness on a skill that is designed to be spammed (which has always been thief gameplay in PvE content and that is fine!) and then go on to say "we don't want them to give strong party quickness". I don't think a good solution would be to full on remove it. It would make far more sense to place it on one of the shroud skills with a cooldown.

The decision to reduce the number of targets you can apply from 3 to 1 only exacerbates the problem of ally target switching for high quickness uptime. Left, one of the best thief players, mentioned that even with these nerfs it could still be done.

Lastly I want to talk about shroud which has some of the most glaring problems.

    Shroud

In it's current state it is poorly designed. It is very anti synergy with thief's initiative system as you do not want to be in shroud for long to continue using initiative asap. It's vital that shroud has a strong identity that integrates with Specter if the class is to do well and feel good to play across all game modes.

As of now, you don't want to stay in shroud because you no longer will apply RWV. There is no big damage bomb skill you'll want to use that gives an advantage over normal sceptre skills nor does it grant much boon support that you don't otherwise provide with normal sceptre skills. Spamming the shroud AA and using skill 2 off CD until sufficient initiative is restored is a bit dull for a unique class mechanic. Making it more dynamic to fit the boon/heal support + damage hybrid thief identity would be a lot more positive for Specter.

The huge heal from Consume Shadows trait is really cool, nerf/rework was understandable and reasonable, but the changes did nothing to make shroud have any strong identity/use outside of that heal. The reason partly being because shroud skills are underwhelming or situational especially compared to skills outside of shroud. And the solution is not to make sceptre skills worse, that would be really sad for the class.

An issue I have in proposing changes is; I have no idea what the devs intended by giving thief shroud. I can only guess as it seems to lack identity currently.

One guess is that shroud is where Specter gets to do both the ally support and their own direct damage at the same time. If so, there might need to be more a mirror between non shroud skills and shroud skills. Where you can apply roughly the same boons, but with cooldown, and maybe shroud skills allow some bonus boons?

Another thought is that shroud is thief's "defence mode" as their shadow step heals are weaker on themselves and don't have much self barrier application outside of traits. The shroud 3 granting self barrier seems a bit redundant? I could be wrong though. It might be good to have a small shadow step in shroud to utilise the Shadestep trait but I wouldn't say that is too important.

Outside of the intent the improvements I would suggest anyways are as follows.

    • Add 5 man alac to one of the shroud skills with a CD to allow more diversity in utility and even trait choice choice. What prompted this idea was CMC saying 'we want them to be strong in giving alac'. If the wells + Traversing Dusk are the only way AND it's only 5 man (when 10 man alac exists) just because 100% uptime can be achieved, it isn't necessarily "strong". Allowing Specter to grant some alac outside of wells and the trait would really strengthen the class and the shroud mechanic.

    • Add more boon support in general by taking the quickness away from endless night and adding it to one of the shroud skills. Could even have it apply regen too just like the current EN skill. Like I said before, having quickness on a initiative spam skill is not good if the vision was for Specter to only be strong in alacrity.

    • Moving the quickness application to a shroud skill on a CD would be much healthier than removing it all together. That way they could increase the target number back to 3 or even 5 if the numbers aren't too high and this would make Specter feel good to play as a heal/boon support across ALL game modes.

One last thing I want to add; the very first trait Siphon says "gain shadow force when spending initiative". This is only partially correct as it only counts on enemy units not allied. I understand if the devs don't want you building up shadow force too fast with simply ally targeting in combat, if that is the intent. Although it would be nice outside of combat to be able to use initiative on allies to build up SF, as currently that isn't possible.

    Thanks!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read! I really want EoD to nail all new elite specs and Specter was the one most concerning to me after reading the change notes and playing it in this beta. Specter is also the one closest to my heart as a thief main who always wanted more support capabilities on the class. Like I mentioned at the beginning, my thoughts and opinions are not just coming from myself alone but also formed through talking to other players and listening to Teapot/CMC discuss the EoD specs.
