| Guild Wars vs. New World Posted: 03 Nov 2021 07:07 PM PDT As kid growing up one of the only options I had for an online game was GW as I didn't have the money nor time to commit to WoW. Fast forward to New World launch which promised an exciting PvP and PvE experience. I can safely say there is not a single thing that New World did better than Guild Wars did. My biggest gripes… I've never felt more alone playing an online game. In guild wars 2007-20210, I had no problem finding someone to help with a quest in any of the random towns around the continents. In New World, it feels like I'm playing a single player RPG with a chat box. People say "guild wars isn't an mmo", but really, concentrating everyone in towns and having everyone enter their own instance is preferable as you're not fighting over mobs/resources and dealing with respawn rates. PvP. Guild Wars hands down has one of the most amazing PvP systems I've ever played in my many many years of online gaming. From Random Arena to Heroes Ascent to Alliance Battles and GvG, there were an insane number of PvP modes available and they were available to play as soon as you start the game as you could create a PvP only character or even fight in one of the low level PvP arenas like sunspear arena. The rewards were great, the strategy was insane and the creativity of the builds were worthy enough to spawn websites dedicated to guild wars builds. New World on the other hand, gives you 3 skills to choose from out of a total of ~6-7 for each weapon, which basically leads to everyone running the same exact build. The rewards for PvP are abysmal, no cool emotes or glory, instead you get a chest with a couple items and some gold. And the best part? It really comes down to a pay2win structure as people that put the most time into the game can get much better armor than those that are forced to buy off the auction hall. Should also bring up that PvP is effectively gated until you are lvl60 as nobody wants to take anyone less in a territory war (similar to AB). Community. Guild Wars had such a great community, plus the ability for everyone to play with each other made things perfect. In New World and most mmo, your friends might be spread out over different servers, meaning you can never play with them unless you make a character in their server or transfer out of your own server. Loot. The random drop system of guild wars was actually not too bad in comparison to new world. I liked seeing that someone in my group got that glob of ecto, that sweet gold weapon or perfect green one. New world drops are blind, only you can see what you pickup , and the stats are determined based off how often you play the game. This means that people addicted to the game are easily able to get rich as their drops all have perfect specs, while someone that logs in a couple times a week gets shit drops. PvE quests/mobs. New World has a total of maybe 15-25 creatures to fight, with the majority of those creatures being wild animals. The actual bad guys, maybe 10 different models. Pirates, bugs, ghouls, you see them in every town every dungeon throughout the game. Don't even get me started on the quests, they are all the same quest over and over again. TLDR; guild wars 1 was and is still an amazing game. I would love to see anet bring back this form of "mmo", as not everyone is interested in the type of experience you get from GW2 or NW. | My Guild Wars Screenshot Art and Anthology (Fan-Art / Fan-Fiction) Posted: 03 Nov 2021 05:37 AM PDT  | I was encouraged by a friend to share my GW Anthology and my artwork with all of you here on Reddit. While I have done so before, the reddit posts tend to get forgotten in the sea of new posts, so I decided that the better way to do it would be to make a sub-reddit specifically for this. This is the culmination of over 10 years of work and would not have been possible without help from a lot of awesome people over the years.
