Chart depicting the evolution in popularity of Legendary Weapons

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 08:08 AM PST

On March 24th 2020, someone posted a graph on here with data taken from gw2efficiency.com to give a representation of the popularity of legendary weapons based on the API data of people registered to the site. Link to original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/fnvoza/legendary_weapon_popularity_chart/

I thought it would be interesting to see how those numbers have evolved over the past 20 months with the release of the legendary armory and info about EoD. So Here you go!

The change in popularity represents how much more (or less) people have unlocked the weapon relative to all registered players on the site. Numbers used were 219231 registered players for the old post and 345929 for this one as of November 18th.

Type T1 amount crafted T2 amount crafted T1 Growth in popularity (%) T2 Growth in popularity (%)
    Axe 20.609 21.086 15.3 8.1
    Dagger 32.271 3.062 -6.1 22.7
    Focus 9.545 11.957 -0.4 22.9
    Greatsword Twilight 54.936 10.330 -3.8 46.3
    Sunrise 46.848 - -5.8
    Eternity 21.625 - -2.0
    Hammer 16.966 1.591 -3.5 26.4
    Harpoon Gun 3.697 - 17.1 -
    Longbow 16.220 6.136 -1.4 42.5
    Mace 9.997 4.768 1.3 9.8
    Pistol 10.601 9.372 1.1 -0.3
    Rifle 15.736 1.492 -3.7 12.2
    Scepter 18.390 7.346 1.6 33.1
    Shield 18.614 4.027 -1.4 6.0
    Shortbow 13.296 12.977 0.5 1.1
    Spear 5.767 - 12.6 -
    Staff 33.823 25.252 -2.9 -6.8
    Sword 36.026 17.649 -0.4 10.3
    Torch 11.834 1.636 1.8 8.5
    Trident 5.371 - 11.0 -
    Warhorn 12.047 3.335 -3.6 45.1

Top 5 most popular weapons (+ % of players registered on gw2efficiency who unlocked them)

    1. Twilight (15.9%)
    2. Sunrise (13.5%)
    3. Bolt (10.4%)
    4. The Bifrost (9.8%)
    5. Incinerator (9.3%)

Note: no changes here, although all 5 have lost in overall popularity

    Top 5 least popular weapons

    1. HMS divinity (0.43%)
    2. Sharur (0.46%)
    3. Flames of War(0.47%)
    4. Claw of the Khan-Ur (0.89%)
    5. Verdarach (0.96%)

Note: Switch of 1 and 2 but all 5 gained in overall popularity.

Top 5 growers (+ % increase in popularity)

    1. Exordium (+46.3%)
    2. Verdarach (+45.1%)
    3. Pharus (+42.5%)
    4. Xiuquatl (+33.1%)
    5. Sharur (+26.4%)

Top 5 Shrinkers (- % increase in popularity)

    1. Nevermore (-6.8%)
    2. Incinerator (-6.1%)
    3. Sunrise (-5.8%)
    4. Twilight (-3.8%)
    5. The Predator (-3.7%)

Note: While these percentages might be low compared to the growers, keep in mind that all legendary crafting received a boost thanks to the armory.

    Further interesting notes:

-While almost all of T1 stagnated or lost popularity, the aquatic ones all grew with over 10%

-Verdarach and Sharur while among the top 5 least popular, are also among the top 5 growers

-Nevermore is the only T2 legendary to lose significant popularity. Most of T2 grew by a lot

-The biggest discrepancy in T1 and T2 can be found in hammers, with the Juggernaut been crafted 10.7x more than Sharur. But Sharur is among the top 5 growers so this is bound to change if the trend continues.

Disclaimer:This data is not representative for the entire player base since it uses data from GW2Efficiency. Only a small % of the total player base has their API registered there. Newer and more casual players that have crafted less legendaries are also less likely to be registered there. However, the data does give a general idea on popularity. Exordium e.g. has DEFINITELY been crafted by a hell of a lot more people (I see you revs). Anyways, take it with a grain of salt and enjoy the data!

The Jade sea was never melting. It was a rumor and theory in Winds of Change.

    https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Winds_of_Change_encounters#Encounter_9_-_Dire_consequences

This is the grand source of all the "Echovald and Jade Sea reverting" theories and stories.

Is there any fact to it? No. Is there evidence? no.

It's two kurzick commoners literally pondering if the forest would heal now that the afflicted have been completely wiped out. Note, the afflicted came about... 200 years after Shiro died, and were completely unrelated to the Jade Wind beyond "Spawned by Shiro." The same afflicted that continued to persist after he was killed (again) and killed a third time in the Realm of Torment.

edit: The only other statement I have been linked is also, literally just a rumor of "Deep beneath the surface it's thawing." and "Maybe it'll heal faster with the afflicted gone" Aka the exact same rumors as the Kurzicks peasants say.

Unless anybody has hard evidence the Jade Sea was melting (this is literally the only source I can find for it at the moment) and the forest was "reverting", please do share it. Because I keep seeing this statement being flung around without any evidence or facts behind it.

If gold was not an object, which metas/maps would you do daily (for fun) ?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 08:28 AM PST

Hi - so I'm new to gw2. I have just started doing HOT metas and loving it. Especially the dragon mouth stuff and verdant brink metas. Love the bladed armor drops.

Here's a question - if gold was not an object, which metas would you daily ? Ranked by fun...sense of achievement...camraderie whatever.

P.S. I know about fractals and wvw, etc. But I'm talking regular map, metas, world events. Which ones would you do if you removed gold from the calculation.

    Dragonfall NPC Conversations

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 06:22 AM PST

Given how we sort of dunk on elder dragons and their minions on the regular, it makes it easy for me to forget just how apocalyptic they actually have the potential to be. While doing the Dragonfall meta, I heard a mist ward asura having an attack because she died when during the battle in Thunderhead Keep. She wasn't even a combatant, she was collateral, and now she's in the front line once again, having to face the very same monsters that killed her.

The GW2 stories can be hit or miss at times *cough* Champions *cough*, but my god the smaller details in the open world can be genuinely amazing and beautiful at times.

Change the Jade in The Jade Sea to Baja Blast

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 07:57 AM PST

Since no one can agree on what color the Jade should be I say we come together and have Arenanet change it both visually and lore-wise into Mountain Dew Baja Blast. This would make it more enjoyable for players and also present a great business opportunity to fund future expansions.

Tell me what you like & dislike about Guild Wars 2

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 03:26 PM PST

I've been an MMO player since I was a wee bab, and out of all the MMOs I've played, I feel like GW2 is for sure the best of them.

That isn't to say, though, that the game is without its issues.

New players and long-term players alike, what do you enjoy about the game? What do you feel should be improved? What do you think that GW2 does well compared to other games, and what other games do better than GW2? How do you feel about the overall health of the game?

For me, I very much enjoy GW2's story telling & horizontal progression. I never enjoyed the aspect of FFXIV & WoW, where your gear was only good for that tier of raids. Then when new content released, the grind would start over again. And also, yes, GW2's storytelling may be weak compared to XIV, but it is still decent. And certainly better than WoW's, at least for the moment.
