I hope Anet takes a real hard look at the first batch of elite specs.

    Posted: 18 Sep 2021 04:03 AM PDT

In comparison to the recent three specs, and especially compared to the pof ones, they just seem lacking. Not as polished, conclusive or really as creative. Virtuoso just seems like a base spec 2.0.

    Thoughts?

Edit: Thank you for the undeserved award.

Oh. My. Goodness. Catalyst looks so much cooler now seeing the mechanic and weapon skills in the livestream. The sphere idea is so cool! May have to finally go back to ele.

It may not have been intentional, but these two moments were possibly the most hilarious part of the 2nd EoD Elite Spec stream... Nothing to see here, just the professions working as intended

Canceling my pre-order for.... New World.

    Posted: 17 Sep 2021 11:52 AM PDT

Hello Reddit. Just wanted to say how pleased I am to be apart of the GW2 community. I picked up GW2 after the New World closed beta as a holdover until launch. Today I canceled my preorder New World as I am super engaged with my little Sylvari Ranger and no longer see a point to playing that other game. There is so stinking much to do in GW2 and I'm glad I finally took a chance on this game.

Damn GW2 is so good compare to FF14

    Posted: 17 Sep 2021 05:22 PM PDT

So i tried ff14 because it's so popular. Level up to 60, and honestly i really tried but the story is so boring, open world is dead. Then i remember i had an account of gw2 bought in 2012, i tried to log in and it worked! Gave it a try and damn it is sooo good now, the graphics, the community, the quests, the combats, the immersion. And it's f* free! Meanwhile ff14 just selling you treadmill gear, fedex quests... I'm so happy to be back ❤️

Guys, I figured out why these specs all got bundled together. It makes so much sense now.

    Posted: 17 Sep 2021 01:39 PM PDT

I discovered this unused Jumping Puzzle hidden beneath the Calendon Forest map. I'm blown away by this, it's so sad that it never got implemented into the game. The room in the bottom left has mechanics similar to the Spekk's Lab JP.

Bring the Player, Not the Class

    Posted: 17 Sep 2021 07:22 PM PDT

A new expansion means a new meta-shaking pre-expansion patch. I am hoping against all reason that Anet finally follows the edict that WoW used during Lich King to amazing benefit: Bring the Player, Not the Class.

    What does that mean?

If you look at raid guides nearly anywhere, they include the same few things: A druid, a banner warrior, and either 2 Cronomancers or 2 Crono/Scrapper/FB + a Renegade (maybe a Mirage).

Druid, Warrior, 2 Firebrands and a Renegade is pretty much the standard setup for a raid group at this point, and it hurts players who have more fun playing other classes, especially support. Scourge and Scrapper are only now viable supports after literal YEARS of Anet trying to buff them, until they just gave scrapper perma-quickness and buffed scourge like crazy (though it still has to fight for a slot).

Other healer builds like Tempest? Herald's original intention? The whole pile of shout support traits warrior has? Left completely by the wayside or MAYBE given a "2nd healer if needed once we get a druid" slot. None of the 6 elite specs shown have any support component beyond quickness uptime either, seemingly showing that Anet has given up on making healer specializations since none can compete with druid.

Unique buffs are the death of varied group composition. Every strong unique buff means one more thing groups will consider "required" until every group consists of the same builds played the same way.

Now they have been getting better about this. Originally, the only proper sources of quickness and alacrity for groups was Chronomancer. Then Firebrand and Renegade came out, and Scrapper and Mirage picked up new tricks. But is that what has to keep happening? Every support needs one of those two buffs, every raid has a druid for spirits, and every warrior has to take banners?

The last remaining single unique buffs are Spirits and Banners. There are roughly the same number of each, why not combine them and make the slot flexible? This also can make banners more interesting since they are just stat sticks since 2019. You can also use these generalized buffs to flex other supports or utility types into a good role. And Pure Healing supports like Tempest can fit into groups that have a Warrior/etc already since the healer isnt required to bring spirits.

    My idea: The Empower buffs

    Buff Effect Ranger Warrior Engineer*
Empowered Strength +5% strike damage Frost Spirit Banner of Strength Rifle Turret
Empowered Wrath Burning on hit Sun Spirit Banner of Rage(new) Flame Turret
Empowered Defense Protection on hit Stone Spirit Banner of Defense Thumper Turret
Empowered Healing Heal on Hit Water Spirit Banner of Tactics Healing Turret
Empowered Accuracy Vuln on Hit Storm Spirit Banner of Discipline Rocket Turret
    • Engineer Effects are only when Experimental Turrets is traited

Basically, the current spirit buffs would be renamed and shared out to additional sources. These buffs would not stack with each other, so there is no reason to bring a Frost Spirit AND and Banner of Strength in the same raid. Each also has their own strengths (Spirits have active effects and can bring extra boons, Turrets bring damage and CC, Banners cant be killed early)

Obviously, the specific numbers, duration, and healing capacity of Druids, Scrappers, and Warrior banners would have to be adjusted to make sure druids aren't obsolete and banner's uptime isn't so much more than spirits.

    The result:

    • Frees up an extra flex/dps slot in raid groups as you don't need both a bannerslave and a druid, thus letting more people play what they want
    • Both Druids and Warriors have WAY more flexibility in their builds and utility skills.
    • Future Support specs can bring "Empowers" instead of Quickness/Alacrity to be viable. Or even just raw healing like Tempest since Empowers are easier to obtain.
    • Turrets finally have a viable use!
    • 10-man groups now are Healer+3 Boon Support + Empower instead of pre-set class combos which all start "Druid and Warrior".

    Thoughts?
