    How to beat Twisted Marionette

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 12:44 AM PDT

Twisted Marionette: Is the average GW2 open world player really that simple-minded? (a rant)

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 01:07 AM PDT

It starts with organizing the whole thing. We put a lfg up with "don't open instance before commander" in caps letters. So we have time to do subgroups and explain. -> people join and instantly open, this happened almost all the time

If you somehow managed to organize it and got 5 subgroups a 10 people -> people go to random lanes cause they just don't care, or don't know that V = 5 (like seriously, did you go to school?)

Minibosses tell you what to do, right under their health bars. "Blocks attacks from the front" e.g. We also explained multiple times in squad chat. -> still seems impossible to beat, most attacks fail cause one platform is unable to kill the miniboss

Champions spawn at the beginning of the lanes have CC bars, also a lot of twisted trashmobs spawn there. -> people stand scattered across the lane, don't bring any to break bars (edit: not stunbreak) (or don't even know what that is) and fight the irrelevant non-twisted mobs instead

Seems like this is doomed unless you are a 50 viewer+ streamer or manage to get 50ppl into discord.

(All players mentioned above are lvl 80, not bashing new players here. Also we did explain all the above in squad chat, multiple times.)

People already want to see a nerf on the marionette and I think this is a wrong move!

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 03:51 PM PDT

The Marionette hasn't even been in the game a day and already there are people complaining that the content is too hard and it should be made easier because they don't get their incredible two gold and valuable blue and green items.

After a long time, we finally have a moderately challenging boss with interesting mechanics that demands more than just spamming the 1# skill and a large portion of the community unfortunately doesn't appreciate that.

Stop getting everything delivered on a silver platter and try to improve yourselves by playing better builds, getting better gear (exotic is enough) and helping other people if they make mistakes and please learn your crowd control skills!

This is finally a good opportunity to raise the bar of the community in the game and I hope Arenanet tries to implement this further with End of Dragons!

    EDIT:

It's nice that there are many people who see it the same way.

Today I have defeated the puppet twice with a semi-organized squad so stay tuned and don't give up right away!

Thanks to all the commanders who take the time to explain everything!

    And thanks for the awards!

Daily login bonus: GW2 does it right

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 08:42 PM PDT

FYI: unlike other games, GW2's login bonus is PROGRESSIVE, not CONSECUTIVE (Meaning if you miss one day, it does not reset to 0.\***)*

Skippable setup - I am presently playing a different game with a 28 day bonus, but it is of the style where if you miss one day it resets to 0.

My partner is E.R. level sick (she'll survive, but I am with her in the pre-op area). So I will not be able to do the daily in that game and it is going to reset.

All that serves to do is make me not really want to keep playing this other game (which I only played for variety), and go back to guild wars 2.

Main point - Guild Wars 2 is my favorite MMO for the primary reason that it, unlike pretty much any other "live service" game out there, respects my time.

"Subscriptions? Screw that!" Says GW2, buy my expansions and we're even.

Cash shop: "I don't mind if you use in game currency" says GW2.

If I want to play a RTS or a shooter. Unlike other MMOs, GW2's stance "that's cool. I (and all your rewards) will be here WHEN you come back" which is why I ALWAYS come back to GW2.

TL:DR - So as I sit here in the ER with my partner, "ruining" my streak in the other game I play for having life get in the way of their game. Rather than getting angry/sad about it, all I can think of is how good GW2 (and Arena net) is to our time -- and I wanted to share that.

EDIT: Partner is okay, got home around 4am. Thanks for all the well wishes and for taking my mind off the FOMO trap

What it feels like playing low res

Legendary vs Ascended, or why you shouldn't feel pressured to farm for Legendary gear

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 03:51 AM PDT

So with the release of legendary armoury I've seen a lot of people saying things like legendaries are needed, or it's unfair how much effort they are because they're necessary. I'm making this post to hopefully give some perspective to people. I'm basing this off the perspective of playing guardian, because it's the most popular class statistically. So we have a few things we can do. TLDR at bottom

    A) Permanent bank contract (but that's **4k Gold!** yeah I know just hold on) an extra bank tab, and 4 different gear sets to fill all the roles guardian provides (heal, quick, condi, power) 24 armors, 24 accessories, and 12 weapons. Ascended gear can be averaged out to ~50g per part (it's a lot cheaper but this is for the sake of comparison and I want to make this as biased as possible towards making legendaries to help show the difference.) A lot of trinkets you'll get just purely by doing metas that make gold (drakkar, storms, dragonfall) and others you get simply by doing a quick gathering route but again, I'll count those as having a 50g cost even though you're most likely going to make money farming for them. That's a total of 2850g and slap an extra 200g on for the gems needed to buy another bank tab. Grand total = 7200g. That's nothing to sneeze at, it's a huge amount of gold but please keep reading.

A1) Now lets compare that to making legendaries to cover the same things you're going to need an axe, a staff, a sword, a focus, a torch, a greatsword, a scepter, and a shield. We're going to assume a few things here too. You have all the clovers, map completion gifts, spirit shards, and karma and any other accountbound things legendaries need so the cost to obtain those legendaries is a lot lower. We'll also use the cheapest legendary to make which is currently moot at about 1300g 700g.

    1300g x 8 = 10400g 5600g

See how insane this is so far? in A you not only get an extra bank tab, but a permanent bank contract pass AND you'd be left over with 1600 spirit shards, 616 clovers 4,000,000 karma and an INSANE amount of extra time. We haven't counted armor, runes, sigils, or accessories yet. A set of runes (not counting breather) is 3k gold, armor is (for pvp idk about wvw/raids) 2000g and ~1000 ranked matches over a few seasons, backpiece is ~700g, sigils are 2400g, and the trinkets are around 1.5k each.

What does that total? ***21,200g*** and that's assuming you're making 8 moots. That number is very generous, and also doesn't account for time spent either.

While yes for sure all legendary means you'll never need to get a gear set again, it's more space efficient and the QoL is higher and it'll work for warrior, rev, and guard. Lets assume you don't need any other weapons for the other classes in terms of legendaries and to make the comparison again:

You want to play War, Rev, and Guard though! Alright, so to cover basically all the meta heavy tier classes lets go wild and say you need 48 armor parts, 48 trinkets, and 30 weapons + 5 bank tabs for good measure and a perma bank contract the total is still only 11,300 gold. That's half of the legendary stuff and that's assuming worst case for ascended, and best case for legendary. You also get a permanent bank pass that's huge QoL because you can store anything not just gear in it.

TL:DR - Legendary items are the end goal the ultimate quality of life and the best future proofing case, however the time required to get an armor division fully geared in legendary stuff is not even comparable to how easy ascended is. You go for full legendary because you want to, there's no other reason because with build tabs and multiple ascended sets you don't even get the main QoL feature of legendaries. The armoury isn't unfair, it's a bone tossed to the endgame community and the people that spend huge amounts of time in game.

Final note: Remember to have fun with the game, it's about the journey not the destination and if legendary stuff seems too far for you, it's nothing to worry about, you're not missing much unless you like the flashy skins. Thanks for the armoury update Anet, see you all in EoD!

200 hours in and I can tell I barely scratched the surface, this game is amazing.

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 02:24 PM PDT

22 mastery and 2,000 achievement points only, I never even got my ascended gear but there is so much content left to be explored and I'm so excited.

I come from WoW and the differences in this game make it so much more fun. I'm sick of the gear treadmill and catching up, so I enjoy the flexibility here. I enjoy how every content awards some kind of progression which truly respects my time in how little or a lot of time put in. I don't get the feeling of FOMO by not keeping up because the content is so open and vast.

Hoping for the continued success of this game.

We need some way to look at the whole Legendary Armory in one place.

    Posted: 13 Jul 2021 01:43 PM PDT

In the equipment panel, you can only view legendary items that your current character can equip. There's no way to look at every legendary item you've unlocked.

We need just a simple UI that shows a grid of each legendary item in the game and how many of that item we've put into the Armory. Put it in the achievement panel or something, just a button with "View Legendary Armory" that pulls it up.

If you're wondering why Dragonstorm isn't starting at the supposed time: the time has changed.

Just noticed that they've changed timers so Dragonstorm and Marionette no longer overlap. Dragonstorm is now every even hour instead of every odd.

Suggestions for ArenaNet to help reduce visual noise and improve performance

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 07:16 AM PDT

I wanted to create a post to provide some feedback and discuss ways that ArenaNet may be able to reduce visual noise and improve performance in addition to the system upgrades they are making. Below are a couple of my own suggestions, but I would love to hear everyone's thoughts as well.

    • Option to hide other players backpieces (backpack, wings, capes, etc.)
      • There are some over the top backpieces in this game, and a lot of players have them. I think being able to hide them may reduce a lot of the clutter that goes on during larger scale events. I also think that this should be separate from the current character model limit and model quality graphics settings.
    • Option to show default mount skins for other players
      • Same as above.

I want to find a way to be able to play with higher settings, specifically regarding character model limit and quality, but right now it's just not feasible and that's a shame. Large scale PvE events and large scale WvW fights are just a complete mess. Not only does my framerate plummet, but the design and bright neon colors just make it impossible to actually see what's going on and completely rip away my immersion in this otherwise beautiful game.

    Hello everybody,

The legendary armory and the Marionette are here. I've included the flavor texts that should popup once you unlock a legendary (sadly it doesn't show on the automatically converted items today) but we still have to figure out which one belongs to which. Next update will be in 2 weeks (on the same day they're going to reveal End of Dragons!)

Edit: that's it, see you all in two weeks!

    Enjoy

2441700_0364 "I believe that sigils contain fragments, or memories, from the greatest battles in Tyria's history," Lady Nari wrote. "This one may be our only window into the Battle of the Three Queens."
2441701_0920 "I know this isn't the path you'd have chosen for yourself—but the Flame Legion isn't just your home now; it is my gift to you. Keep this dagger close and never forget who you are: Nonius Ragesinger."
2441700_0570 "I've studied the krait for some time, but never have I seen anything else quite like that. One of their shamans performed a ritual on one of their dead—undeniably dead—and it was living once again!"
2441701_0264 "Remember: the blue stuff is the Alchemical Catalyst, and the red stuff is the Transcendent Energy. Don't drink either of them. And whatever you do, don't drop this thing."
2441700_0201 "The Flameseeker Prophecies" is an ancient tome containing near-complete proclamations of the future as foreseen by the dragon Glint. The final chapter is intentionally left unwritten...
2441702_0078 "They killed him. Balthazar. If Lyssa ever learns of this...I don't know what she'd do—what any of them would do. They still claim benevolence, but let's hope they weren't watching too closely."
2441701_0682 A handful of warriors know what it's like to bask in the effervescent glow of a fresh victory—sweat dripping from their brow, voice raw. Only the bravest ascend to such glory.
2441700_0069 A historian once wrote of a great beast that lurked off the coast of Orr—possibly a living Champion of Zhaitan. Although she hasn't been seen for a century past, her kin still roam the dark waters.
2441700_0764 A norn ballad recounts a quarrel between the Great Wolf and a serpent who sought to become a Spirit of the Wild: O little snake, do you have what it takes? Howl, howl—open the gate.
2441700_0673 A relic dating back to the age of the Giganticus Lupicus, the Juggernaut may be a gift from the gods. When held by a worthy champion, they are cast in a solid sheet of quicksilver.
2441699_0453 A symbol of cunning and patience, this garb carries power siphoned from a mysterious beast guarding the Forsaken Thicket. They seem to pulsate, albeit gently, when nearing a ley line.
2441701_1019 Although the gods have abandoned Tyria, their gifts remain. The oceans and land. The verdant forests, the limitless cosmos beyond—the ultimate love letter to the living, but also a solemn good-bye.
2441700_0251 Although the vast, impenetrable Unending Ocean has been left unexplored for a century past, fishermen lingering just outside the expanse often catch glimpses of something magnificent.
2441699_0741 As Zhaitan's influence grew, the Vigil raced to the site of Kryta's greatest maritime tragedy on an improbable mission. The HMS Divinity's long-dead crew—shackled to their ship as it sank—were all recovered.
2441699_0377 Cast in the likeness of Forge Ironstrike, this rifle was crafted as a tribute to his battle against the Flame Imperator. When Kalla fell in the Plains of Golghein, Ironstrike silenced the traitor.
2441701_0636 Casters and archivists alike worship the iridescent glow that the Bifrost emits. Although the source of its magic is unknown, its luminous aura may hint of realms bygone—tucked away in the Mists.
2441701_0082 Congrats! Bound legendary items on this character and account bank were automatically converted to unlocks in the Legendary Armory. Now you can enjoy using them across all characters on your account.
2441699_0539 Crafted from the finest silks, these vestments are a symbol not only of sheer strength but also quick-witted bravery and grit. They know their way around the streets of Kyhlo here and back again.
2441699_0471 Dare this historian say, the Moot should only be brandished by the most charismatic of warriors. When drawn, your foe may be blinded by its grandiose display of light and splendor.
2441701_0739 Eureka was the pride and downfall of a rogue Priory research team who set out to reactivate obsidian shards sampled from ancient armor. Paired with magitech, the material assumed a deadlier form.
2441699_0803 Explorers venture into the Mists, and sometimes the Mists venture back. Though far less sentient than the Mist-being Razah, Exordium takes some joy in adapting to its wielder's needs and expectations.
2441699_0459 He could hear his opponents nearing as he stood before Utahein, whose nostrils flared at the tinge of blood that wafted through the air. He had one chance to do this right.
2441702_0017 Hlif traveled to the Far Shiverpeaks to challenge Jormag. Near death, she took one last swing at her foe before falling unconscious. She awoke the next morning—her axe encased in an icy dragon's head.
2441701_0006 Hylek of the Astrozintli Forelands revere the life serpent Xiuquatl. While it's too small and gentle to be their savior, those traits make it Tequatl's perfect opposite—and a potent symbol of hope.
2441701_0323 In lieu of written records, some temples of Balthazar kept elaborate weapons depicting the rituals they were used in. Few survived Balthazar's fall, and many were immolated by his loyalist priests.
2441699_0734 Interwoven with an impression of a dragon whose name Tyria has yet to learn, Bolt is imbued with the strength of a storm—swelling inside like a thunderous inferno, eager to aid its wielder in combat.
2441699_0806 It is said that when Dwayna woke each morning, she gifted her followers with the warmth of dawn. All of the creatures in Tyria stirred from their slumber to witness the glorious sunrise.
2441699_0772 Lady Nari once wrote that runes are imbued with the memories of ancient warriors and that the effects they grant are remnants of their power.
    2441700_0654 Log 18204: Losing transmissionsomething went wrong_I'm_stranded. I'm stuck in_Fractal. Floating. The whole island is_floating. Call themselves_Forgotten. Trees. I see_someone_? Can you hear_me?
2441700_0306 Meteorlogicus was designed by a sylvari astrologer, Surya—a love letter to the sky. She once used the orrery to trace a thunderous cloud that lurked on the horizon. She knew then: a dragon had awoken.
2441701_0113 Nevermore is a living reminder that there's always a purpose to Raven's riddles and tests. When you're mired in despair, lost for answers, he pushes because he knows you can fly.
2441701_0657 Scholars discovered Pharus in Siren's Reef. All attempts to store and catalog it have failed; if not carried by a hero, it reappears at Dwayna's Reliquary among the other artifacts.
2441701_0674 Sharur was retrieved from among the spectral weapons guarding the Source of Orr. Though its lingering corruption is aimless and benign, not even the Artesian Waters could fully cleanse it.
2441699_0704 Sunsmith Ouissal dreamed she gifted an exquisite axe to a woman with skin like the star-kissed sky above the Astralarium. She woke and ran to her workbench, a delighted laugh lingering in her memory.
2441700_0349 Thanks to their bond with you, someday Nola, Halkor, and Brill will be magnificent tigers, facing the world with dignity and wisdom. For now, their paws are far too big for them.
2441699_0361 The amulet was a sight to behold, swinging back and forth while the warrior perfected the swing of her sword. She was a champion—onlookers bowed as they passed, but her attention was elsewhere.
2441700_0392 The Binding of Ipos is as mystifying as it is venomous, dripping with ancient knowledge. Any warrior brave enough to carry this tome will be gifted with millennia of sinister magics.
2441700_0508 The Dreamer is as mystifying as it is perplexing, for such a creature doesn't exist within the known world. It is quite popular among the skritt, though, who idolize its colorful...prowess.
2441701_0542 The Minstrel is a bard's dearest companion, a vessel of their spirit and artistry. Delicate notes fade in the wielder's wake, leaving passersby with a gentle whisper of their vestige.
2441700_0652 The most renowned thief in Kryta had a couple calling cards—drove the Lionguard mad. She always left two things behind: a trail of confetti and a note that read "I can run faster than a centaur!"
2441699_0769 The ring was fixed on his left hand, a reminder of the battle days before. While they held Stonemist, it could be minutes until their enemy appeared at the front gate. There was no time for mourning.
2441700_0017 The tiny quaggan Shooshadoo has made up their mind to follow in your footsteps as a champion of Tyria. You'll need to carry them until their stride is a bit longer.
2441699_0366 These vestments are imbued with the power of a crystalline heart, once carried through an abandoned prison to its final resting place. It is exemplary of the wearer's tenacity in the face of darkness.
2441701_0226 They walked through the Underworld, dove straight into the Mystic Forge. They crossed through the long-forgotten halls of Ahdashim—such feats would be cast in gold and told to awe-struck children.
2441699_0648 This ancient charr relic has served as an apparatus of revolution, a key to power, and a symbol of stability. The Claw of the Khan-Ur is reforged with every great feat its wielders accomplish.
2441699_0343 This armor is worn only by those who helped defeat Xera and silence the White Mantle in the depths of the Forsaken Thicket. When it catches the sun just right, it is a beacon of hope in a cruel world.
2441700_0304 This exquisite scholarly garb shimmers with Mist energy. When you wear it through ruins and unguarded keeps, sometimes you're haunted by nostalgia.
2441700_0007 This garb is the perfect blend of lightweight and sturdy, ideal for the sneakiest saboteur. Their enemies may cry foul play, but I assure you, only the those with a swift foot possess such finery.

Telling players to use Ascended Weapons instead of their Legendary Weapons due to the current Legendary Armory setup seems to be missing the whole point of the Armory

It feels like the big discussion today is centered around the (lack of) QoL that the Legendary Armory provides for weapon swapping. Swapping weapons with the armory causes all sigils and enhancements to be removed. The seemingly prevailing response to this problem has been "Oh well, use Ascended Equipment instead" completely misses the whole point of the Armory.

Legendary equipment is supposed to be one of the pinnacle achievements of the GW2 experience. And with that, it should come with the highest degree of QoL. Nobody should be satisfied with the current implementation, neither players nor devs. When the new system makes it so that regular ascended equipment is more easily usable than the supposed best, legendary equipment, something is fundamentally wrong.

The most apparent fix would be to simply have a system where the items can be "pulled" out of the armory (like the achievement skins) and therefore remain in the players inventory. I understand that there is currently a lot on the Dev teams plate with the upcoming expansion, but it seems that the team has been trying to be more transparent with their work. A response on this issue would be greatly appreciated so players can adequately set expectations here.
