Proud new owner of a skyscale: a rant?

    Posted: 22 Jun 2021 05:25 AM PDT

I finally finished the skyscale achievements last night, after roughly a month and a half of purposeful effort(I dont play everyday), and I gotta say. It was more enjoyable than I had anticipated.

I have seen comments over YouTube/Reddit/Facebook calling this an awful grind, that many people either quit the game because of it or that they simply gave up on ever having one. And I guess for someone who just wants to wander around aimlessly, this is understandable. But for me, this came at the perfect time in the perfect way.

This was my second account, my original being lost to me through email shenanigans shortly after POF came out, and "catching up" felt insurmountable. But I was determined to play through to the end of icebrood and have a skyscale before end of dragons, because I had heard keeping up in later metas without a flying mount of some sort would suck. Well for some reason I did the skyscale first, so no Bjora ice shard exchange. I DID pad my wallet with gems to gold, because I'm still figuring out how to make usable amounts of money. But the rest was done the hard way(minus the guide for finding skyscale eggs/and stuff from that collection)

I feel like for me, who never finished map completion, hadn't done a lot of the "jump puzzles", and was lagging behind in most other ways, being forced to go literally everywhere at least once it seemed was kind of fun. I saw things I probably would have missed entirely had I not been directed there. Maybe this is specific to me. Taking part in metas I probably wouldn't have normally cared about, and seeing others working for the same goal, and sharing that commonality is really part of what MMOs are to me.

Not to mention this collection existing (and I assume, most of the larger achievements) serve to keep populated what would otherwise be desolate hellscapes(who actually wants to spend time in jahai bluffs, like actually). I think larger goal oriented content like this to be healthy for the infrastructure of the game.

Now every time I get on my skyscale, although it isn't some hyperspace FTL boom-boom machine, I feel like it's more than just a mount: it's one of many summations of my dedication. And when I see other players on one, I have a newfound respect for the amount of effort they put in(yes even you, person who bought 18 extra pungent skyscale treats). This is important because I've been flip floppy most of my life, rarely putting enough time into any one endeavor before evening distracted by another, in anything, not just games. So to be able to focus in and get something larger like this done is kind of huge step forward mentally for me, like I'm actually changing my hardwiring.

TLDR; I got to see a lot and do cool things, and my brain is less shitty now. I am pleased with the challenge snd the reward.

Also: is there anything other than legendary crafting that compares to the skyscale stuff in terms of difficulty/severity/required commitment? Kinda want to get stuck in in something new now(have a feeling the roller beetle won't take nearly as long)?

New Black Lion Maguuma weapon skins

    Posted: 22 Jun 2021 10:28 AM PDT

Wow it's been a while, but we finally got some new Black Lion skins. I think the last set was the Etherbound set back in March.

This time it's the Maguuma set, which got a nice planty style for Druids and Revenants. As always I made a little preview showcasing the new weapons, so people who can't log in right now can take peek :)

So we using Scrying pool to relive our memories

    Posted: 22 Jun 2021 10:45 AM PDT

While it is Anet giving us something to do, while we wait for EoD, its actually cool that in game we are using Scrying pool to relive our memories and help Taimi and Gorrick study dragon by that. They even comment about how people change over time -if you finish LS replay achivs you can speak with them about it.

    A clarification about "???" track

    Posted: 21 Jun 2021 05:21 PM PDT

    Hello everyone!

As you have seen and heard there is a post that has gotten attention and I didn't want to share with Reddit, but only on my YT channel. I didn't expect to get any attention here until I get a confirmation from Bryan Atkinson that this track is GW2 related.

So clarification is: this isn't EoD related, and it's extremely coincidental. The name of this track is Dragon Transformation [fantasy] and has Asian inspired melodies.

Here is a message from him.

"Hey Michram, thanks for reaching out! I do still do work for Arena Net but also work for other game franchises as well. This piece was a concept for a game I am working on, the coincidence in name and style striking to GW. Thanks for letting me know, though. I appreciate your interest greatly! I might change the name of the track on my website just for kicks though, haha."

At least now we know that Bryan Atkinson can compose really cool tracks for Cantha, it's a style I really would like to hear - beautiful flutes and piano with cool orchestration - it does fit Guild Wars 2.

So the answer is this track is not GW2 related, but we know Bryan can compose amazing Asia inspired music.

    Music nerd signs off. :)

And btw this a track I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjWPK9PiIJs

How hard is it to get legendary armor once you have all the LIs ?

    Posted: 22 Jun 2021 06:42 AM PDT

I'm raiding casually every weeks doing wing 1 - 5 in pugs, and i have now accumulated a bunch of legendary insights (more than 500) which i think is enough to get a legendary armor.

I know there is a collection to complete, but i also don't have a lot of gold (i always spend them to try new builds in raids). How hard is it in terms of gold + time to craft the first legendary armor set ?
