[Guide] Complete Guide to the Anniversary Celebration for New and Returning Players

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 03:37 PM PDT

Hello everyone! I wrote a guide to share here for the Anniversary Celebration and all the important additions to the game to help everyone get the most out of the celebration and make sure they don't miss anything!

    GUIDE TO THE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

What is the Anniversary Celebration? The Anniversary Celebration is a special event that occurs annually which commemorates the original release of Guild Wars on April 28, 2005.

How long does it last? The Celebration starts Thursday, April 22 at 12:00 PST (19:00 UTC) and ends Thursday, May 6 at 12:00 PST (19:00 UTC).

Guild Wars Wiki Page: Anniversary Celebration

    Additions (with wiki links)

    1. Shing Jea Boardwalk is open.

    2. The Ranger Pet Hound of Balthazar can be unlocked by talking to Ceira, Sworn to Fire in Embark Beach.

    3. The quest Pilgrimage to the Hall of Heroes may be taken daily (resets 08:00 PST, 15:00 UTC) from Anzhaer, Hammer of Balthazar. in the Heroes' Ascent outpost.

    4. Proofs of Legend are obtained by completing cooperative missions. Maximum of 1 Proof per region per character. 20 Proofs per character.

    5. Xunlai Anniversary Storage Voucher can be obtained from Palora, Sworn to Earth by talking to her with one Proof of Legend in your inventory. 1 voucher available per account

    6. Proof of Triumph is available during the Celebration.

    7. Party, Sweet, and Drunk Title consumables drop during the event.

    Shing Jea Boardwalk

    • Lucky/Unlucky Title farming can be done by utilizing Nine Rings or Rings of Fortune. Highly recommended to use the corner circles in Nine Rings as it generates the most Lucky AND Unlucky points per hour. It is also cheaper overall than Rings of Fortune. Estimated progress for Lucky Title is 3450 points/hr and for Unlucky it is 244 points/hr.

NOTE: From the start of the event until Monday, April 26 15:00 UTC, Lucky and Unlucky Title points are doubled, earning 6900 Lucky points/hr and 488 Unlucky points/hr.

    • The Dragon Arena is open. Gamer points and Balthazar faction can be gained here, but generally not worth the time as it's either farmed by organized teams or dead.

    • Rollerbeetle Racing is available. It offers Gamer points and Racing Medals, which can be exchanged for the Miniature World Famous Racing Beetle (200 Medals) or the Ranger pet Racing Beetle (100 medals, can also be unlocked with Zaishen Coins) which has the fastest base attack speed of all pets. Has been heavily botted in the past to farm Gamer points.

    • Victory Token collectors Sheng Yi and Seiji are available.

    Hound of Balthazar

Pilgrimage to the Hall of Heroes

    • This quest is given daily (resets 15:00 UTC) from Anzhaer, Hammer of Balthazar. in the Heroes' Ascent outpost..

    • Can only be completed once per day per account.

    • NO PvP SKILL/EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS QUEST

    • Can be completed by winning 1 match in Heroes' Ascent or participating in 3 matches, win or lose.

    • You will fight against a team of bots most times. This video(credit: Dungeon Plays Guild Wars on YouTube) has a good overview of the process, including how to easily kill the bot teams to complete the quest faster.

    • If you don't feel like fighting the bots/don't have the build used/don't want to/other reason, you can just lose 3 matches and still complete the quest and collect the rewards.

    • The Quest rewards 5k experience, 2005 gold, and a Proof of Steel. The Proof of Steel is exchanged with the Zaishen Acolyte in the Heroes' Ascent outpost for 1 of 3 items.

    • 1 Decade Zaishen Honor Chest: Contains 15 Flames of Balthazar which can be used to gain 1000 Balthazar faction each.

    • 1 Decade Zaishen War Chest: Contains 3 Zaishen Keys (see note below about Keys)

    • 1 Decade Zaishen Tribute Chest: Contains 150 Party, Sweet, or Drunk points. Randomly selected. Can get these much cheaper throughout the year, don't waste your Proofs on these.

    • Balthazar faction can be spent to unlock skills on your account. Normal skills are 1000 faction each and Elite skills are 3000 faction each. Several years ago, I farmed the event and spent my Proofs on Flames to get Balthazar faction. I then spent this faction on unlocking every skill in the game for my heroes and future characters. This is a huge quality of life upgrade and makes starting new characters very easy without spending a lot of money. NOTE: unlocking skills does NOT give your character the skill, it only unlocks it for your account, you still have to use a tome to use it on your character. If you are needing money, I would choose this option and sell your Flames at a later date, during the event the price will be at its lowest point in the year due to the influx of Flames. Additionally, Zaishen Keys can be purchased for 5000 faction. If you like to gamble or are working on the Zaishen Title for the Hall of Monuments you can spend your faction on keys, although I still think selling or using the Flames is the best value.

    Proof of Legend

    • During the Celebration, characters that are AT LEAST LEVEL 5 are awarded 1 Proof of Legend for every cooperative mission completed per region. There are 20 different regions throughout Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, and Eye of the North.

    • Make sure you do not have a full inventory when completing a mission, you will not get the Proof if you do. Completing the mission again with an empty inventory slot should give you the missing Proof.

    • Bonus objectives are NOT required for any mission. Hard mode is NOT required either. These do not give extra Proofs.

    • To save space I have only listed what I believe are the easiest/fastest missions in each region. A full list of regions and missions can be found here.

    Prophecies Factions Nightfall EotN
The Great Northern Wall Zen Daijun Chahbek Village Curse of the Nornbear
Iron Mines of Moladune (follow Alternative Route) Sunjiang District Consulate Docks Against the Charr
Riverside Province is faster if unlocked, Divinity Coast may be faster for foreign characters. (credit /u/Krschkr) Arborstone Tihark Orchard or Grand Court of Sebelkeh G.O.L.E.M.
Aurora Glade Unwaking Waters Ruins of Morah A Time for Heroes
Augury Rock (Elona Reach or Dunes of Despair if not unlocked) Imperial Sanctum Abaddon's Gate
Abaddon's Mouth is faster if all unlocked, if not, just complete Ring of Fire (following the Front Route) (credit /u/Krschkr
    • For more efficiency, complete Zaishen Missions when available. These change daily at 16:00 UTC (9:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time). The missions that will be available during the Celebration are:
    Date Mission Date Mission
4/22/21 Jokanur Diggings 4/29/21 The Elusive Golemancer
4/23/21 Iron Mines of Moladune 4/30/21 Riverside Province
4/24/21 Kodonur Crossroads 5/1/21 Boreas Seabed
    4/25/21 G.O.L.E.M. 5/2/21 Ruins of Morah
    4/26/21 Arborstone 5/3/21 Hell's Precipice
4/27/21 Gates of Kryta 5/4/21 Ruins of Surmia
4/28/21 Gate of Madness 5/5/21 Curse of the Nornbear
    • Proofs of Legend can be used to obtain Decade Weapons or Anniversary Weapons from the Ancient Anniversary Weaponsmith. The cost is 5 Proofs per weapon. To obtain 1 of each weapon and the Proof of Triumph, you will need 115 Proofs of Legend. NOTE: Decade and Anniversary weapons are CUSTOMIZED to the character that purchases them. They can only be used on that character or the heroes of that character. The Weaponsmith is available until Thursday, May 13 at 19:00 UTC.

    • I would highly recommend using your existing characters to complete missions, however if you want to farm more Proofs you will need to be level 5 to receive one from a mission. The two quickest ways are: Starting a new character in Factions and completing Minister Cho's Estate, by the time you reach the mission you will be close to level 5. This guide posted 2 years ago details how to get a Proof in Nightfall by farming Chahbek Village (I have not tested this method) Credit to /u/RaisingPhoenix

    Xunlai Anniversary Storage Voucher

    • Obtained once per account from Palora, Sworn to Earth by talking to her with one Proof of Legend in your inventory. She is located on the Western Boat in Embark Beach. One voucher is available per account. Unlocks a new tab in the Xunlai chest.

    • If you have already unlocked the storage pane, you will receive a Blessing of War instead. This can be used to trade for a Balthazar weapon year-round.

    Proof of Triumph

    • Obtained by trading 5 Proofs of Legend with the Ancient Anniversary Weaponsmith. Keep one of these in your chest. This should be one of the first things you buy with Proofs of Legend.

    • Carrying one of these in your inventory spawns additional bosses for you and your party when entering the right explorable area. These bosses contain unique Elite skill listed here. Some of these skills are the best Elite skill for a given profession, whereas others are super weak.

    • Hang on to this even after you've capped the elite skills you want, as you can help other players throughout the year.

    • These skills contribute to all 3 Skill Hunter titles, and they cannot be unlocked with Elite Tomes on other characters.

    Consumable Point Farming

    • Sweet, Party, and Drunk point consumables drop during the Celebration in all campaigns.

    • Bosses have a chance to drop 50 point consumables for all 3 titles.

    • Two of the most common and easy to learn areas to farm are Vaettirs and Raptors, both in Eye of the North. The Vaettir farm provides more potential drops per farm but does not contain a boss.

    • Vaettir Farming Page

    • Raptor Farming Page

    • Note that if you are trying to make money from these farms, you are competing with 100s of bot accounts that are running 24/7. The potential to make money is there but you should expect low buy prices right now and lots of competition.

I will update this guide if there are any updates! PM me with questions.

Are GvG, HA active? (Other games with gw-like pvp?)

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 02:16 AM PDT

Old veteran here, I mostly played HA and GvG back in the days and when I tried to come back a couple of times they werent really populated. What is the situation now?

Also bonus question: are there other game with team-based tactical pvp, with a lot of communication and cooperation needed?

    Thank you.

    What todo during Anniversary

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 05:59 AM PDT

Anniversary Celebration begins today at 19:00 UTC and ends in May 6th 19:00 UTC. Because of the large number of new/returning players, I feel this subreddit needs a comprehensive list of notable stuff worth considering doing during this major event.

    * There is a chance that we will have discounts in the Online Store. Will update this later.

Depending on how much free time you have, prioritize what you personally feel is important to accomplish during this significant event. Above all though, good luck and have fun!

EDIT: Now that the event has finally started, I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on anything Anniversary related.

    No Anniversary Sale

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 12:45 PM PDT

Well the Anniversary event has come and unfortunately there's no sale on the Guild Wars store. This is as much social media as I have so I'm curious if we tweeted at Anet or Guild Wars about putting it on sale if it would do anything? It's just unfortunate that they've pretty much abandoned the game. The Steam version doesn't even have the complete collection and has never once been on sale in my region. The game's old but I'm still willing to put money into it during sales. I was going to pick up another account that would be ironman only as well as 2 more character slots for my main account but with no sale I'm just skipping entirely.

Question about heroes for all the newer players out there

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 06:55 PM PDT

Do you have trouble setting up good skill bars on your heroes?

When I first got access to them after the Nightfall release, I had already played a fair amount on most professions and had a lot of skills unlocked. But for new players, the absence of extensive skill unlocks and the limited nature of cash, skill points, and hero skill points seems like a big hurdle - especially in the Nightfall campaign where you'll be forced to take a specific hero on most (all?) missions.

So how's it going for you new players on that front? And if you're playing a lot more with henchmen, how are they holding up for you? I've been thinking about roping a few friends in to play together and I'd like it if they could bring their own heroes along as well so they don't feel like I'm carrying them, so I've been curious about this.

    Thoughts on Anniversary

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 12:52 PM PDT

I didn't expect any updates, but was hopeful the anniversary would bring something new. At the very least I was looking forward to a sale to try mercenaries and a new character slot, and perhaps we'll see this added sometime this weekend?

Underwhelmed rather than disappointed, and yet I'm still excited about the events throughout this holiday and lucky title boost until Sunday.

    Customization is it worth?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 02:35 PM PDT

I know about the + 20% dmg after customization but is it worth to customize for example a Silverwing q9? Would you customize or not?
