To the person who saved me yesterday

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 03:57 AM PDT

I'm a new player. I attempted to take on a huge mob several levels higher than myself last night, it went how you could of imagined.

I was downed, hurling stones at the thing as it was about to finish me off and out of nowhere a player swung in on a dragon and sent the mob to hell. After reviving me they went off on their way, I watched them disappear into a nearby forest and thought to myself two things:

    • Wow, I really shouldn't take on mobs like that.
    • The community of this game is fricking awesome.

Thank you for saving me (:

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 02:52 PM PDT

As usual, I have here my updated TacO marker pack for SAB:-) The new this year are Oozes and also several fixes and polishing, enjoy:-)

TACO DOWLOAND IS CURRENTLY DOWN, HERE IS THE MIRROR: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZWtc_O3jOWGnhaJ0CCq2dmnaPaUc3D3M/view?usp=sharing

    Marker Pack Download: http://tekkitsworkshop.net/index.php/gw2-taco/download

    Video Guides

Trails are split into the 3 categories sort of matching achievements. In the TacO menu, you can toggle whole pack or individual trails. You can also separately toggle markers and signs and overall customize it as you wish :-) Achievement trails are made as detours from main routes

    • Tribulation Mode trails follow mostly the route of my old pack but there are several new shortcuts and I also polished plenty of hard jumps so dodge-jumps are no longer necessary there.

    • Normal Mode trails not always follow the shortest route, it's there primarily as guidance for other achievements (And runs thru plenty of Bubbles)

IMPORTANT: When you launch TacO for the first time with this pack, everything will be turned on and the screen will be cluttered with multiple trails. You have to manually toggle them off in the menu first and left only those you wanna see.

    Installation

    TacO & Markers Installation

    • Download the latest version of GW2 TacO
    • Extract TacO from the archive somewhere - I recommend Guild Wars 2 folder.
    • Download ALL-IN-ONE markers pack from my website.
    • Move downloaded tw_ALL_IN_ONE.taco file into the POIs folder inside the GW2TacO folder (do not unpack it!). Override if asked.
    • You may have to allow using archives from other sources in the file properties or repack the archive (just rename .taco to .zip) it as your own if you don't have admin privileges in Windows.
    • Launch the game in Windowed Full-Screen mode and TacO as an Admin (does not work on Mac).
    • You can toggle my markers in TacO menu -> Filter Displayed Tactical Markers -> Tekkit's Guides ->

Check this for a more in-depth TacO guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quKSP6hdqFo

PSA: Don't use the SAB invitation if you have active buffs since entering SAB removes all buffs (birthday, consumables, etc)

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 05:51 PM PDT

The game informs you at the SAB portals in Eye of the North and Rata Sum that entering SAB will remove all your buffs, BUT the invitation item does not say this.

I accidentally clicked it on my main character and lost a few days worth of my birthday buff. Annoying.

You can find it in the hub underground area on your way to the cannons in the sky and bee transformation.

He has a neat little table with his notes on it, and a shelf with some classic novels.

    A Need For Speed Tools

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 06:49 AM PDT

I'm looking to buy my first set of infinite gathering tools. My main focus is on speed. Speed without needing to buy multiple sets to get a decent set of speedy tools. I've read everything on Reddit and done multiple Google searches to try to glean as much information as possible on the topic - however the data I've managed to find seems to be outdated to the extent of 2018. This lead me to taking peoples' selections at face value as watching videos of the animations help in a general sense but not with the nitty gritty numbers.

I have 3k gems to spend on this endeavor any more and I'll have to wait and save up for.

As a result I've come up with two options for a speedy set disregarding glyphs for the time being - it seems volatile glyphs are optimal for making some gold back but again the tools themselves aren't breaking any speed numbers which means I would have to purchase the set just for the glyphs and I'm not comfortable doing that. I need some feedback from people to make the most informed decision possible given the situation, at least that's what I'm asking if you're reading this. So here is what I've come up with after many Reddit and Google searches regarding gathering speed:

Option 1: Consortium Sickle, Firestorm Logging Tool, Shifting Sands Mining pick. The sickle is available right now and is tied for first place in speed. The Firestorm Logging Tool will be available on the 17th and is considered fast even without its glyph. The Shifting Sands Mining pick shows up in posts about speed if you're not willing to buy the Unbound set strictly for the mining beam and this isn't available and isn't listed to be soon which means I'd have to wait on it - but it does come with a nice glyph I can stick on the sickle for flax farming.

Option 2: Unbound Magic Gathering Tools. They're due to be available on the 19th I believe. On the old charts they list the mining beam and logging tool of the set to be the fastest - however this information is dated to 2018 so how accurate it is now I'm not sure. That leaves me having to replace the sickle with the consortium at a later date when I can save more gems for it. So the completed set would be the Consortium Sickle, Unbound Logging Tool, Unbound Mining Beam.

After all the reading I've done on the topic these two options are the best I've been able to come up with. If, however, you have a better idea or I'm wrong about something please let me know. I'm unsure which option to go for honestly but again I'm only concerned with speed. I want the fastest possible gathering speed - I can pick up the glyphs later on as I can save up for them. Bearing this in mind which option would you choose and if neither why?

    Tldr;

Help me decide on speedy tools:

Consortium Sickle, Firestorm Logging Tool, Shifting Sands Mining pick or Unbound Magic Gathering Tools save for Consortium later?

Competitive Achievements should become repeatable at max tier

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 07:55 AM PDT

Unlike in PvE, sPvP and WvW really don't get any additional content, and subsequently don't regularly see new achievements introduced.

Now while I do respect the notion that if you want to hunt AP, you should spread your time out across all the game modes, at the same time I feel that achievements are themselves mini-goals that bestow a feeling of progression, something which is important for an MMO.

What do you do then when you've completed all the WvW achievements? You're missing out on that mini source of progression.

I suggest that all sPvP and WvW achievements become repeatable after you've achieved the max tier.

How much you need to complete the final rank again would to developer discretion. I'm fine with it not awarding additional AP as I feel ANET is trying to control the flow on AP awarded, so I propose it award gold. My gut instinct would be to award 20g, but again up to developer discretion.

    Example:

WvW - Stopped them Cold. Tier 5 rank is to defend a total of 750 Towers. Total rewards 56 AP + Title "Tower Guard"

Once T5 rank is obtained the achievement would become repeatable, and can be completed again after defending 100 (??) towers, which awards you 20g (??)

It wasn't too long ago I was still working on some of these, and I remember thinking that when I escort a yak for a guild mission or to tier up an objective, I was also progressing an achievement. I would race to kill every Yak possible to move the needle on Yakslapper, and any time I saw a camp being contested, I raced to defend it to keep supply chains running, but also to get one step closer to completing Walls Get in the Way.

It would be nice to feel that way again for those of us who have completed these achievements already.

On a somewhat related side-note, it would also be nice to add additional tiers for Realm Avenger between 50,000 and 250,000 kills. There is just too much terrain there, between 50,001 kills and completion at 250,000

Insert new Tiers at 100,000, 150,000 and 200,000. Add more AP and award it retroactively to those who have already completed it, or just recalculate the AP across all tiers.

Right now Realm Avenger T5->T6 is that elephant we keep hearing about, and you need to be able to eat it in small bites.

And after you complete RA, repeatable afterwards for 50,000 kills (??) that awards 20g (??)

Oh and I'm not forgetting God/Goddess of WvW. Once obtained, every 1000 ranks (??) gives you 20g (??).

sPvP has way more variety in terms of achievements that already award gold (lul), but I still think they should become repeatable. Once you've earned Monster Hunter for example, you should not be robbed of that feeling of progression whenever you zone into Niflhel.

There are many players who only participate in a single game mode. While I've played across almost all of them for some time, I've evolved to the point where I spend almost all my time in WvW, which has helped me to recognize this glaring omission. Unlike those who spend the majority of their time in Living World content, those in PvP and WvW never get anything new to work towards, save perhaps a reward track. I think it fair and reasonable to change that.
