The cost of the new collections

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 05:03 AM PST

The azure and crimson dragonslayer weapons, and volcanic stormcaller ones.

The grind is so rediculously absurd.. 2400g in prismacite bars and another 2600g worth of volcanic weapons, 5000g for some *story achievements*

(Edit: 15g * 5 bars * 32 weapons, cost of volcanics from the wiki)

Or alternatively just grind out 1600 prismacite ores through drm's and your daily home instance, you'll get it done in a year or 2?

This is so insanely out of proportion compared to "similar" things (stellar weapons:130 gold total, kralk ore is neglegible through eternal ice now, illuminated boreal weapons: roughly 400g total, etc) that I genuinly don't understand why there isn't some huge outrage happening.

Or is everyone just ignoring these exists, dead-on-release content?

Can we get the ability to either use already-crafted Dragon Slayer weapons in crafting Azure/Crimson weapons, or salvage them back into Prismatite ingots?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 04:21 AM PST

Title, basically. Prismatite still feels so slow to grind, even with the new mastery - doing 3 DRM CMs a day gives you basically enough for one ingot, and you need 3 (or 5 for infused) to make the new weapons. I held on to the Dragon Slayer weapons I'd crafted thus far, hoping/assuming they'd be used to make the Azure/Crimson infused ones, because, well, infused kinda made me think we'd just use them as a craft material, like Boreal weapons, and infuse them from there. Salvaged a couple for experimenting, and didn't get anything back other than ecto and basic raw craft mats. Personally, I don't feel the weapons don't really seem worth all the grind and hassle at all, given they're fixed stat exotics and the skins aren't really anything visually impressive either, imo. I know they're completely optional since there's no MP behind them (screw Volcanic Stormcaller weapons, but that's something else altogether), but damn.

tl;dr, if we could at least get just one guaranteed ingot back from salvaging them, since you have to craft the base weapons to even be allowed to buy the recipe for the infused ones in the first place, and they serve no purpose beyond that, that'd be.. better? I think? Sure, the collections for unlocking the recipes gives you a nice amount of prismatite crystals back, but it doesn't super feel all that rewarding.

Teaching players a complex game in times where gameplay of non-committal instant-gratification rakes in billions, and doing so in a financially viable way

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 07:49 AM PST

Reality check: Activision wants WoW to be more like Call of Duty because that's where the money lies. MMOs get mobile mechanics because that's where the money lies. Publishers tell developers to fuck up their game for shit where the money lies. Niche MMOs get developed by tiny indie teams that are utterly in over their heads because there doesn't lie enough money to be interesting for big money names so shit investments on.

It's easy to be a snarky keyboard warrior on the internet farming dopamine kicks by shitting on other people's work. Doing a better job is hard.

Let's see if we can work out a way to maximize profit (e.g. the biggest possible playerbase) while getting people to actually give a fuck about what's going on instead of just auto-piloting to their next happy chemicals.

This is specifically not about difficulty. It doesn't matter if you have 0,2 seconds to get out of the telegraph, 2 seconds or 20 seconds. It's about making people pay attention in the first place.

Most direct and obvious first step would be to overhaul the UI. Thinks need to be actually shown, not hidden behind tiny icons that hop around as conditions get applied or fall off. It would also require a rework of rewards. No, not the indirect reward system, the way one is qualified for rewards in the first place. Tying them so mechanics instead of auto attack might be a good start. Maybe a participation decay while being dead.

I'm going to stop here and see if there is a bit of a discussion to be had.

Quick edit: another way would be to design the system in a way that other people's apathy doesn't actively ruin other people's effort. GW2 was built on the concept that seeing other people should always be a good thing. Yet AFK'ers scaling up events and utterly desinterested co-players failing boss kills for the entire group makes people avoid each other fosters resentment. If my rewards were based on my personal performance I'd gladly play with everyone, because the game doesn't punish me for their mistakes. And actually struggling players wouldn't be segregated from me, so they could watch me master what they feel is impossible, and learn, and possibly be motivated. Assuming I'm not a bastard jumping on their corpses shitting on them for being scrubs or whatever, but not being affected by their struggles will actually decrease anti-social behaviour as well.

What are your realistic expectations for the expansion?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 07:36 AM PST

    Mine would be:

    1. 4 new maps ( with a couple of HoT style meta events)
    2. New Strike Missions
    3. 9 elite specs ( maybe new weapons like land spears?)
    4. 1 major feature like mounts in PoF ( maybe sailing mastery/ revamped underwater combat/ housing system)
    5. story chapters comparable to PoF in quality/quantity
    6. Fractal system update/revamp
    7. WvW Alliances

I don't expect something major like a new Race. Nor do I think we will get any new instanced content like Fractals/Raids. The dev team seems to be smaller than the HoT and PoF eras and the pandemic making them shift to working from home doesn't help either. There's also the fact, they started working on this in the middle of IBS and had to switch gears.

I want to hear what you guys expect from the expansion considering all these scenarios.

I just had to get it when I saw it online for next to nothing. The box is a little bigger and heavier than I thought, though.

Why does no one ever wanna do the east pylons in Auric Basin?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 06:24 AM PST

I am trying to start getting the collection items for Nevermore I, but I can't seem to find any groups that want to do east pylons in AB so that the Vinetooth Prime will spawn. I literally had one group who was running all the pylons say they never do east, its just too boring. That is reallt not helping my confidence in trying to complete this.
