Got my first ever max level mmo character a few days ago and wanted to mark the occasion. Ive tried a ton of other mmos but this is the first one that has stuck. The focus on exploration and unique leveling process got me hooked! GG GW2

    Research - Fractal Encryptions

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 06:54 PM PST

    Hello everyone!

After around nine months of data gathering with my friends I had the pleasure to run the last livestream of it and we finally managed to end our Fractal Encryption research with the final 100,000 inputs. Data that was gathered includes 1,000,000 Fractal Encryptions opened. We strongly believe that's a solid sample size for this type of a container and after a few last touches to the spreadsheet we are happy to share the results with all of you.

Spreadsheet is divided into three sheets:

    • Main Page - Simple, rounded visualisation of raw data.
    • Raw data - Raw data inputs.
    • Variation Data Set - Here you can see two examples of sample distribution (sample size=2500, and estimated distribution of sample size=250) and two examples of Mean Confidence (confidence based on the variation set of 100k, and estimated confidence in the averages from the 1 million set). Within 2 standard deviations is 95% likelihood, and 3 standard deviations is 99.7% likelihood.

    Interesting things to note:

    • This whole research cost around ~510,000g and generated total of 200,385 Fractal Relics.
    • Gold from trophies ended up at 42s 83c per encryption.
    • Individual trophies drop evenly at rates of 33,33% for Manuscripts and 16,67% for everything else (Postulates, Treaties, Proofs). The highest drop rate for trophies are Proofs which are 50% higher than everything else (drop rate ~42,8% vs ~28.6%).
    • You will get 3 Ascended Materials, 2,7 +1 Agony Infusion and 2,7 T5 Materials per Encryption on average.
    • Your chance between what kind of T5 materials you get is exactly 12,50% as math would suggest (100%/8).
    • Based on the fact that you get 2,7 T5 materials per 1 Encryption on average (3 Encryptions will give you 1 of each t5) you need around 6300 of them to get enough for a full T6 material set. (250 of each T6)
    • Chance of getting additional Fractal Encryption Key is incredible close to 10% (9,98%) so after rounding it's 1 Key per 10 Fractal Encryptions.
    • Dropping a bag of Fractal Relics is at 6,68% (each bag includes 3 relics) so in order to get 1 Fractal Relics you need to open 5 Fractal Encryptions on average. Fractal God will cost you 161,750 normal Fractal Relics and in order to get them purely from Fractal Encryptions you need to open 808,750 of them.
    • Mini Professor Mew hover around 2% drop rate (1 Mew in 50 Encryptions)
    • Ascended Recipes are split between 18 Armor Recipes and 19 Weapon Recipies. This difference is also further seen in data because you have 48,22% of a chance for getting an Armor Recipe and 51,78% for an Weapon Recipe. If we divide 100% by 37 (total number of recipes) we get 2,7% for each individual recipe drop. If we further compare this percentage with our data we see 48,22% vs 48,6% (for armors) and 51,78% vs 51,3% (for weapons).
    • Rare Bags while being pointless (they only give 1 rare) have a very low chance of 0,017%. (This really could be changed into something better..)
    • Everyone always wondered how bad it is to get Aetherized Skins.. and now we know for sure that it's super bad. We only managed to get 213 Aetherized Skins which gives us 0,021% drop rate or 1 Skin per 4695 Encryptions! on top of that you have additional 5,26% chance of getting individual skin. In our sample size we only got 5 full sets of Aetherized Skins (Most unluckiest ones were Shield(5), Greatsword(6), Hammer(7), Sword(8), Warhorn(9) and Mace(9))

    Are daily keys worth buying?

This depends if you are farming your Fractal Encryptions or if you are buying them. Trophies alone will give you around 42s 83c so if you are farming your Encryptions it is worth to buy all three tiers of daily keys (20s, 25s, 30s). However, if you are buying both keys and encryptions it gets more tricky because you are more dependant on all other drops. So only 20s Keys are a "safe" option (Encryptions hover between 19-21s per one on buy order).

    Spreadsheet is available here.

Online Tool Currently the tool is in beta version nontheless it will calculate these things for you:

    • What you can expect from "X" amount of Fractal Encryptions.
    • How many boxes you need to buy/farm based on "Y" amount of keys you have/will buy and their invidual costs based on method of acquiring.

Tool is available here and you can look forward for updates.

What's going on with the Pale Tree these days?

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 01:33 PM PST

As the title says, what's up with the Pale Tree these days? I checked in a couple years ago to see if there's been any changes since Mordremoth and there wasn't. Have we got an update on her condition or she still fubar'd?

    Should I buy the expansions?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 06:52 AM PST

Hey guys. A little background: I put hundreds of hours into the original Guild Wars back in the day. I switched to WoW, played that for a few years, and then stopped playing MMOs altogether.

Recently I got the itch to play an MMO and I remembered my old Guild Wars days. I was pretty stoked to see that you can play for the sequel for free.

I've got a lvl 40 hunter and I've been enjoying playing the story. But with the holiday sale, I'm considering taking the plunge and buying the expansions. I'm just wondering how the experience will change after getting the expansions and I have a couple questions.

    • Am I obligated to use the level boost on my current character? Or can I save it until I create another character and want to boost them?

    • Will I have missed out on anything having levelled to 40 without the expansions?

    • I'm unsure how progression works after level 80. Can you provide any details or helpful links?

    Thanks in advance!

Winter Wonderland and Hackers abusing the system!

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 01:08 PM PST

    Hello!

So i felt like asking around.. but how many of you have noticed that there are quite a bit amount of hackers abusing the "glitched" instances in the new Winter Wonderland jumping puzzle ?

Tonight i was placed in a such "glitched" instance where ther was no timer and nwe were a few players, a few left, but i noticed 1 of them was afking, and still not getting kicked, upon checking more closely, he was teleporting himself from the start of the jumping puzzle to the end of it.

I have sent video material to Anet with obvious proof of him doing that, im just wondering.. how long will such stuff will keep happening ? Theres bots/hackers everywhere especially in PvP and abusing such systems... and here is another foul proof.

Was debating if i should provide the video here too, but i suck at editing videos so i wont be able to blur out his name properly.

Guardian/Firebrand or Revenant/Renegade as a support character for Fractals and Raids?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 12:22 AM PST

So I've stopped playing GW2 shortly after PoF was released, but kept logging in to get the Living Story chapters.

I've wanted to come back and play a little bit more seriously in terms of endgame, and I don't know how the META evolved and how the community might perceive certain progressions and builds.

I always played a healer in MMOs, which is one of the reasons why I stopped as Druid is not to my liking, and there was no real competition until Scourge, Firebrand and Renegade emerged - at least that what I gathered from reading through Reddit and the official forums before posting.

So as someone who knows next to nothing about Raids and Fractals, would you recommend me to go for Guardian or Revenant? I have both at level 80 and both Dragonhunter and Herald are already unlocked, so I think roaming around and doing the PoF Maps for the other elite specialisation should be relatively easy.

    Thank you!

    Situational weapon swapping?

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 05:20 PM PST

Most builds I see essentially use weapon swapping as part of their core rotation. Think "use a bunch of cds from one bar, swap, use a bunch of cds from the other bar, swap back". And, like, I get why that's a thing, but I personally can't stand that sort of playstyle. Instead, I much prefer builds that either don't swap at all or that swap based on what I'm trying to do.

As an example, my favorite form swapping character is probably greymane from hots. He had a ranged form and a melee form, and his playstyle revolved around using his ranged weapon to kite backwards, pressure enemies, and wait for an opportunity to go in. Once he got that opportunity, he could swap to melee, dive in, and burst people down. The is obviously very different from a build that weapon swaps so that they can use 10 abilities in their rotation.

So yeah, are there builds that swap weapons situationally? I'm interested in both pvp and pve. I know that thief's whole initiative thing pushes him in this direction in general, but I'm not really a fan of the whole "roaming stealth ganker" playstyle, and that seems to be what thief is pigeonholed into in pvp. My favorite builds are generally more backline dps or supporty builds, and that isn't really what thief is designed for.

Edit: I'm counting elementalist attunement swapping and engineer kit swapping to be equivalent to weapon swapping.
