    Some Constructive Feedback on DRMs

    Posted: 21 Nov 2020 01:05 AM PST

Having done the new Dragon Response Missions in CMs I would like to give some of my thoughts as to how they can be improved for general play. I am not going to touch on the stuff like overall difficulty etc as other threads were made on such topics and I would like to reserve my judgment about such topics until more DRMs are released.

    1) Each DRM requires players to complete up to three tasks within a time limit at the beginning. From my experience if one plays DRMs in a full party one can reliably finish all three tasks way before the timer ends. This creates an awkward situation where players wait by the NPCs for the timer to end so they can proceed. So, I think it would be good QoL if the timer ended as soon as the 3 tasks were completed. Alternatively, after the 3 tasks are completed some champions or extra events could spawn periodically until the timer ends.

    2) The NPCs are kinda slow and waiting for them to move across areas is probably one of the most time consuming parts of the DRMs. I understand that the story and NPC interactions are important for normal mode and first playthroughs, but maybe the NPCs can be removed for instances where all CMs are active to allow the player(s) to progress at their own pace.

    3) Loot table from the chests can be improved. Right now its either very low value drops or the weapon chests which are rare but sell for quite a bit in TP, though I would guess that as the novelty of these DRMs wear off and there is increased supply of weapon boxes in the market the value of the rare drops would decrease as well. It would be good to have some more middle tier loot that is good in value from the chest.

    4) This may be subjective but I feel like the activities players are supposed to do in between the invul phases of bosses are too similar to the stuff we do before engaging with bosses. Instead of killing more adds or destroying fissures, could we do something different in between phases? Ai survival phases come to mind.

    5) While not directly related to DRMs per se, Champions LFG is awkward to use as for people to form a party of at most 5 people the LFG requires them to form squads in which more than 5 people can join. Just the other day I ended up in a squad with 9 people and it was a mess sorting out players. I have seen some people using the Core Tyria LFGs to circumvent this but its a makeshift solution. It would be good if we either had a dedicated DRM LFG where parties (not squads) can search for people or the Champions LFG was changed accordingly.

What are your thoughts? Feel free to share anything that you think I missed.

    [CoF] Twilight Arbor Forward Duo - 6:03 - Thief/Guardian

    Posted: 21 Nov 2020 07:10 AM PST

Heyo, Dozer Pals here bringing you some more of the best content in the game, dungeons!

    Left (Thief): https://youtu.be/lQERQCofWoE

    Grimjacke (Guardian): https://youtu.be/r6Bczqdg1HM

Thief/Guardian once again proves to be a strong duo combo. The Guardian is able to provide long lasting boons, vulnerability, and other unique conditions to buff the Thief's DPS, and the Thief is free to roleplay as a taxi for the otherwise "slow" Guardian. Not that Guardian is a slow class by any means, it's just pretty much the best at everything else except running around.

Both of us are pretty happy with this run. We managed to beat the previous duo record which was double Guardian by 25 seconds, and we were just 3 seconds slower than the old pre-HoT 5 man record. Sub 6:00 is definitely possible, but it would pretty much require a god-tier run and we'd rather not grind the fun out of it for now.

Thanks for watching, cya in the next one o/

    About Laranthir

    Posted: 21 Nov 2020 12:34 AM PST

So I was replaying Jormag Rising for the added voices achievement when I noticed that at the end of the first story step Ember Doomforge says that Laranthir has returned from his leave of absence and is getting up to speed on current events after Almorra died in Bjora Marches. Then I remembered that in the Gendarran Fields DRM for the latest episode Jhavi says that Laranthir still hasn't come back yet and "she never thought she'd be in charge for this long".

Is this just another case of different writing teams not communicating with each other? Like when Caudecus was supposedly going north to the Isles of Janthir in LWS3? Or did Laranthir come back, see the mess, and nope his way right back out to another vacation?

Is It Worth Paying for the Expansions or Deluxe Edition?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2020 08:36 AM PST

    Hey,

I'm fairly new to GW2 and MMO's in general. I have been enjoying playing the last couple months but have been wondering if it would be worth buying the expansions or deluxe edition as they are 50% off till 23rd November 2020.

Would appreciated any feedback on what people thought of the last 2 expansions and the deluxe edition.

Need a little help on upgrading my build.

    Posted: 21 Nov 2020 07:33 AM PST

Hey guys I would need a little help to upgrade my PC so I can play GW2 on high settings. Currently playing on Low settings and not sure whats bottlenecking me as I only get 40 FPS.

    My current Build:

    CPU: Ryzen 5 2400G

    GPU: Nvidia GTX 1660

    RAM: 2 x 8GB DDR4 2400 MHz

    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-AB350M-DS3H

    PSU: Be Quiet BN245 400 W

I thought I should be able to run the game on the best settings as its quite old and my GPU is pretty decent. Is it maybe the CPU I should upgrade? Do you think a CPU for under 300$ could boost me to at least 80 FPS on high settings?

    Thanks in Advance

Analysis of the Champions Release Style

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 10:03 AM PST

Okay, here's our new hot topic. And as usual, I'm trying to find the most reasonable and accurate understanding of it so I can offer a more nuanced take on it.

From the start, people were worried that the Champions series, spread across four parts, would ultimately be a single episode worth of content spread over roughly seven months. I doubted this, but didn't speak up because I really didn't have any evidence to point toward. With the actual initial release of Part 1: Truce, the surprisingly small amount of content seemed to be confirming this suspicion, meaning all the extra content we saw in the trailer will have to wait until January, when Part 2: Power is released.

This is incorrect, as many people have realized while looking a bit closer at the presentation of things.

All that said, let's talk about what this release style is actually doing and what we can expect. (Also, I'll be keeping this as spoiler-free as possible.)

    What We Have

So the initial release has left us with the usual opening instance to get us set up for the meat of this episode. This was followed by three repeatable missions, each with their own chunks of story and progression, much like old-style dungeons, only much shorter and more streamlined.

All this leads up to a story point basically saying "Okay, now wait." We're left watching a timer while we meet community goals of participation.

    This underwhelmed many, myself included.

    The New Experiment of Releases

What many have concluded is that this clearly isn't the whole episode, and that more is on its way well before January. How long do we have to wait, then? The timer places the next progression update for Truce to happen a week after its initial launch. At this point, we can likely expect another replayable mission that continues the story of us defending Core Tyria and gathering allies. Given the number of datamined mission maps, I'm assuming there will be one new mission per week leading up to Champions Part 2: Power.

Why would they bother with this?

Remember how they keep referencing Living World Season 1? How they want to borrow ideas from that? Well, I think this is one. A really underwhelming one, but still. That idea: more frequent releases.

For those that weren't there, while the community rightfully has plenty of reason to criticize the quality of the releases from Living World Season 1, the fact is the releases were coming out very quickly. The studio had a 2-week release cycle, so even if things weren't great, we were being pulled very quickly through a dynamic series of events. It kept our attention because we had a reason to check back on a very regular basis. Needless to say, ANet burned themselves out doing this, but the community has never forgotten that rush of excitement when things were happening so often.

And while Truce doesn't have that same level of "what's going to happen next?" energy, it does seem to be telling us that every single week will be bringing us new story content. Small enough for casual fans to keep up, but each one will be progressing the plot so people will have a reason to be engaged. I'm guessing they weren't happy with how players were reacting to bi-monthly releases. This new setup should theoretically create longer periods of interest and discussion. Instead of the old pattern of "open game, play for two hours, log off for two months," distant fans may find the game more worthwhile with regular updates, or at least will adopt a more regular pattern of "open game, play for 20 minutes, log off for a week." Maybe this will be better for guild attendance. Maybe this will help the community thrive better. Maybe people will care more in the long run. But I think they'll need to communicate a lot better and offer a lot higher quality before people are willing to believe it.

What to Expect in the Future

If the general consensus is accurate, expect a new mission every tuesday until January. By the time Part 2: Power is released, we should have received the full amount of Part 1: Truce, only spread out to fill in the gap. Whether you approve of this style of release or not is totally up to your own judgement.

However, there is no reason to believe this inherently means the rest of the Champions series will follow this same pattern. Maybe Power will give us a new map. Maybe it'll expand on its own with weekly updates, rather than needing the next episode to add the other half. It's anyone's guess still, but at the very least, we only have evidence of this system extending to the end of this first episode. The system may evolve or change completely for Parts 2-4. I have no idea. And honestly, I doubt ANet actually has those episodes finished. So your input is still valuable so they can make this experience better. Just make sure your criticism has a basis on something solid.

    Conclusion:

I dunno, man. I'm getting tired of stressing over things. Leading up to this point, while the episodes haven't always felt as big as I would have expected them to be, the story of Icebrood Saga has been a really good one. There's actual intrigue and secrets and betrayal and drama that doesn't feel childish. I still don't like Braham but whatever. I'm hoping they don't mess this up despite having such a promising premise going for them. But it's really easy to have your critique gears spinning out of control when we didn't even get a full story chunk. There's CLEARLY a very sudden stop and we are NOT used to the feeling of "oh they'll pick it up next week." It's a big shake-up. Don't let that get to you.

ANet isn't giving us less than they promised, they're just packaging it differently. Base your criticism on that. I'm just as uneasy about it as everyone else, but let's take our time and keep our fingers crossed.

    TLDR

Part 1 is getting spread out via weekly releases to fill in the gaps between Part 1 and Part 2 in January. We have no evidence to suggest Part 2 will be the same setup as this. ANet talked a lot about experimenting when Icebrood Saga was announced and this new release pattern is part of that. Don't panic.

Some praise for the new update.

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 11:51 AM PST

So repeating the DR missions after playing through them story-wise is a hot topic right now, very glass half full / half empty feelings going around so I will hold off on commenting on DRM as a new content iteration. Playing through them the first time though as story missions? Some of the best core map content theyve EVER made since season 1.

Knowing that I'm technically fighting primordus's equivalent of me and ryland (if im understanding these named destroyers) i understand why they have so much health and having them ACTUALLY MOVE AROUND the map and make the fight more than one motionless 10 ft circle to run around in.

AND THE VOICE ACTING!!!!! Absolutely top notch delivery of every single line. The ONLY line that I didn't like was because the recording sounded like there were a bunch of clicks in it, not because of the lines themselves lol (it was one of aurenes lines when you confer with her). The voice acting has been absolutely stellar through COVID19 and I really want to give a shoutout to Anet for being able to get so much immersion and enjoyment out of their inclusion.

Like there have been really cringey deliveries of important lines in this game over and over and over. But with Grothmar valley, EoTN, forging steel, drizzlewood coast, and this new update, weve been getting the BEST directing, voice acting, etc in the game's history. period.

I still don't include Bjora because i dont want myself to start expecting that the norn storyline is all just a veil from jormag and thats why his interactions with the spirits seemed so unbelievably half assed and shallow it felt like it wasnt Anet in charge of developing that part of the IBS story. Since that kind of twist hasn't really been confirmed yet and we still don't know anything about the spirits except that they apparently can be too corrupted to do whatever with, but not too corrupted to do a little bit of something with. That part of the story was just handled so unbelievably poorly even compared to season 2, which upon replay is much better than peoples sentimental memories have suggested.

Appearence of your Character and better gear

    Posted: 21 Nov 2020 09:11 AM PST

    Hey,

i feel like Guild Wars is the only MMORPG where your Character isn't looking badass on higher Levels. Im Lvl 80 and i look like a new character yet I only have exotics on me. Am I doing something wrong? or is it the Strategy of the game so you buy a Set from the Shop? :D

Also, another question would be: Whats the best method to get better gear now ?
