Remember when? 2015... there were no lions in Lion's Arch. The anticipation of wondering what a rebuilt Lion's Arch was going to look like... So many epic moments in this game! Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:20 AM PDT |

Shoutout to ANet: Thanks for no "borrowed power". Posted: 09 Sep 2020 02:06 PM PDT Some MMORGPs like WoW have a problem with "borrowed power", in which every new expansion adds its own form of new talents and abilities. These new abilities only last for that expansion, unlike base abilities and talent trees which carry over from expansion to expansion. There are several problems and player-unfriendly aspects to this, and it's been getting a lot of criticism recently: It takes lots of work grinding for new borrowed power, which is then erased from the game after the expansion ends. It's a major investment to collect, and fun while it lasts, but many players are turned off by losing something they put in significant work to earn. Borrowed Power sometimes results in the dev team making the base spec's talent builds boring or weak, believing they can fix those problems (temporarily) with borrowed power. But if their borrowed power solution is insufficient, then the spec remains broken. This has happened to a couple classes in WoW. Borrowed Power tends to lock players into a spec for various reasons, due to each spec requiring different borrowed power abilities and the grind for each spec being non-trivial. But one of the most fun parts of playing these game is experimenting with and learning different specs. This looks to be especially egregious in WoW's upcoming expansion, Shadowlands. You have to redo the borrowed power grind on any alts, it's usually not account-wide. There are one or two exceptions and catch-up systems, but there's still a non-trivial grind for it. By comparison GW2's elite spec system is really refreshing. Each xpac adds new elite specs you have to grind some to unlock, but you keep them indefinitely, and power creep is prevented by only allowing three active specs at a time, instead of deleting abilities to make room for new ones each xpac. You can easily mix and match specs and gear/stats to experiment with new gameplay, and elite specs from past expansions remain equally viable in new xpacs. Other games, even ones like WoW with continually increasing level caps, can and should learn from this system. Edit - Map-specific Masteries may be a lesser form of borrowed power, but at least they're account-wide, don't get deleted after a new xpac, and still exist when you go back to their maps. submitted by /u/S1eeper [link] [comments] |

Expansion without wvw update? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 07:06 AM PDT How many people who consider themselves wvw players would buy the expansion if they still continue to put out absolutely zero updates or content for us? Alliances is a joke, several years old. I am personally not inclined to give anet any more money when they 100% neglect the game mode where I spend my time. I really hoped for some tidbit of info during the anniversary stream to give me hope. Nothing. Why can't any dev even throw us a bone? submitted by /u/yolauskriff [link] [comments] |
Getting Errors constantly. Posted: 10 Sep 2020 12:38 AM PDT | So, Guild Wars 2 has always been running fine for me, except for the last week. Constant fatal errors every 30-60 minutes. If I dismiss the error, the game closes instantly. I can keep playing by tabbing back into the game, but then I have weird bugs as seen below: Lord room, stonemist castle Map Stairs missing Note that this is not only happening in WvW, it was just there that it happened the last time before I was fed up. The error report reads: *--> Crash <--* OOM: Heap, bytes=1048672, App: Gw2-64.exe Pid: 14648 BaseAddr: 00007FF648700000 ProgramId: 101 Build: 105843 When: 2020-09-10T07:25:16Z I really hope GW2 Cantha expansion will include these 2 things. Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:38 AM PDT In GW1, you were able to get a roller beetle as a pet. That was something so cool and fun to have around. I think it's about time Rangers get some new pets. The second thing is Jade Quarry PVP. I highly doubt they will add this to the game, but it's a wishful thought. I used to spend so much time every day in JQ, even when GW1 was losing people and only bots remained to fill in the open slots. The shit-talking between the two factions was always fun to read and I feel as if that's something that people would do again. It gives that real hate feeling between the two factions. submitted by /u/Capt-Yoruichi [link] [comments] |

Steam question regarding purchase? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:33 AM PDT As far as I know you can't play GW2 on steam if your account didn't originate from it?.... Which i really wanna play it through steam. If I purchase the new upcoming expansion (EOD) on steam, would that work? Or I'm unable to purchase EOD and integrate it to my old account? ...or anet won't even sell EOD on steam cause of % cut from profit? I have around $1k on my steam wallet and other items I can sell...thats why I'd prefer purchasing EOD on steam in the future, heck if we could buy gems through steam i would do it Just asking, thank you submitted by /u/SheepPoop [link] [comments] |
Is the technology there yet, Anet? Posted: 09 Sep 2020 11:42 AM PDT |
