    Why I just realized I love GW2

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 12:04 AM PDT

Not that there aren't a billion reasons why, but I just realized one of the best reasons for me to love this silly game: For the first time in my mmorpg life (going back to very start of EQ) I can call my characters whatever I want from the start even if it includes a middle name. My first D&D character (at least the first one that I truly liked) had a first, middle, and last name. I have played this character in other mmorpgs but always had to either smash the first/middle together or leave the middle name out. I had left GW2 for several years (not because of gameplay but because I didn't have a consistent internet connection and literally could not play) and when I started to play again recently, I saw that character's full name as I had made it many years before and realized that his name was true. It made me smile. This game is wonderful. I intend to play it as long as they will let me.

Edit: It also certainly helps that he was originally a gnome illusionist/thief which couldn't be any more similar to an asuran mesmer.

My experience going blind into Sunqua Peak CM

Let's talk about Sunqua CM CC Requirements

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 06:32 AM PDT

What're your intentions here ANet? After some frustrations my group ended up following the advice of other experienced fractal players and buying some rocks, planks, and other assorted junk from various npcs around the world and suddenly had no problems with the CC bars but a bunch of irritation with the idea that the fractal might have been balanced with this in mind. Surely this is not the way.

Even if GW2 permitted extra action bars on which I could place and hotkey items from my inventory it still seems absurd and ridiculous that players should need to find some obscure consumable items from low level zones and events in order to meet the CC requirements. As it is I very much do not enjoy playing with my inventory open. I also don't enjoy having to have a bunch of random crap taking up precious inventory space.

Has anyone found a workable comp that doesn't need to use consumables and still clears reasonably? We're considering swapping in an extra scourge for more epi might do it by just ignoring the CC bars on the pair of sorrows and killing both of them instead.

Behind The Scenes - Audio Design For Final Boss Fire AOE Skill In Sunqua Peak Fractal

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 05:05 AM PDT

Just completed the original story again. Can we finally talk about the Sovereign Eye nerf ? (don't dare saying I'm late on this one !)

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 02:52 PM PDT

Sovereign Eye of Zhaitan. Second to last mission of the main storyline, not counting dialog in Fort Trinity. Used to be last solo mission. A good instance ... where you have to refrain from using anything but auto attacks (preferably from a weak weapon) if you want to hear all of the boss' lines !

At release, the fight was much harder. More than anything you had to do in story before that point. A bit too hard for some players, obviously.

But the instance was great. The boss fight design might not be on par with more recent releases, but it was ok and more importantly it was part of an overall really good design instance with the phases and music : the feelings you got after finally beating this boss, the long and tough fight with the big boss music, immediately followed by the calm with "Fear not this night" (instrumental) while your allies come in the room, and the special "mechanic" where all fight noises are dimmed. The experience was great, and instance was great.

It's not a problem that they decided to nerf it a bit so that players don't get frustrated or even stuck there. But they definitely went overboard by a huge margin. Even back then, the fight became a joke. Nowadays ... as I said above, you really need to avoid anything else than weak autoattacks or the boss won't even be able to say his lines, let alone use all his mechanics.

There must be a middle ground. And it's not like asking for Zhaitan fight redesign (or completion of its intended design). Fixing Soverign Eye's fight is only about tweaking one or two numbers : his hp must have been divided by at least 10, bring is back up somewhere in between, and maybe bring his damage back up a bit too.

    Eulogy to Fractal KP

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 04:19 AM PDT

After seeing Rich's comments about how problematic kill proofs are, i want do give a different perspective on how it motivated me to do fractals daily for over a year.

I started doing fractals in 2019 when groups with 250+ requirements were already in lfg. Being a typical open world player i had no clue about rotation, roles, buffs, while slowly climbing up to 100th fractal. First CM Ark visit ended in defeat, at 3 in the morning, after 4 hours in a training run i had to quit, no one had any experience and our comp was sub optimal to say the least.

Next day after watching guides, and reflecting on my mistakes i finally got the kill. At the end someone told to not sell this cosmic essence item, this is what you show to prove that you have killed the boss, always spam it, don't link once! After that i tried to do fractals daily, first 20 kp were very rough, lots of wipes and party disbands, but thought of getting trough to better groups kept me playing.

And around 30kp i had my first clean cm run, we got our LNHB title, added each other to friends list and played together in a group of 3-4 people, while slowly raising kp requirements in lfg based on our own, slowly having better and better people join our party. At 50kp Deroira joined, his review for the group was "how are they so bad? get me out of here."

But i kept playing to get my full stack of KP, first consistently getting clean kills with healer, then switching to meta comp, while having visitors from sc ln dt. And now when we pug asking for 333kp, and someone joins linking 100kp. We say, no sorry, after allowing it many times before in most cases it was not a good experience for either of us, because its very hard to instantly adjust to such a big difference in clears without having much experience. So yeah, i see the struggle for new players, but don't think quality of fractal runs will increase because of this change.

If kp will be completely removed without changing anything else it might be easier to start, but then you are stuck in a directionless swamp without a clear incentive to move forward.

Your wishes for events, locations, races and other lore-related elements in End of Dragons

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 06:13 AM PDT

For me, must-have are the following:

    - Tengu and the Dominion of Winds. Maybe we won't have the Tengu as a playable race (though I hope we will) but not having them as an important aspect of this Expansion (or the living story that follows it) would be the wrong decision.

    - The history of and relations/hostilities amongst the different underwater races (Krait, Naga, Karka, Quaggans and Largos) and between those races and the deep sea dragon.

    - Cantha's relation to spirits and ancestors as seen for example in the Envoys, the history of the Ritualist profession and the existance of Tahnnakai Temple.

    - The relation between the Jade Wind and the Affliction on the one hand and dragon magic / dragon corruption on the other hand.

    - The origins of Kuunavang, her relation to the Elder Dragons and her possible relation to Glint.

    - The history of purification in Cantha after GW1. Starting with purifying Cantha from the affliction and then contuining with purifying it from other races (such as Naga and Tengu), eventually going so far as to (try to) purify the Kurzicks and Luxons from their own cultural heritage.

    - Bureaucracy, corruption, tradition, inequality and street gangs. To me these elements are quintessentially Canthan.

    - The effect of the rising and defeat of the Tyrian-based Elder Dragons on the Canthan continent.

Elements that might be interesting if they are touched on but I can do without or that might not even have a place in the expansion:

    - The Dredge, their tunnels from the shiverpeaks to cantha and Primordus.

    - Possible links between the Wardens and the Sylvari

    - The history of humanity on Tyria. There is some conflicting lore on whether humans were first brought to Tyria in Orr or whether humanity came from an area to the south of Cantha.

    - The battle isles.

    - The tentative suggestion that margonites might have been luxons that sailed away from Cantha before the Jade Sea was turned to jade.

That is all I could think of at the moment, though there is probably a lot more. So what about you guys. What do you want to see in the next expansion?

    Twilight III Help

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 09:39 PM PDT

I am recently returning to the game and finding that the power creep is real. People don't struggle with teq, you don't even need to find an organized map. You just go and take him down.

The problem: I need teq to shove me underwater to collect some gloom. any ideas on how to achieve this while the map has stunned teq so he doesn't even do the move?

    Try, try again? :S

[Suggestion] A small change for a me a giant leap for Fashion Wars

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 09:28 AM PDT

I wish equipment templates were stored the titles and colour of the mount skins too. I usually make themed characters for every one of my character and everytime I change builds I also have to change dyes and title manually (which is kinda tiredsome)

    Looking for new friends

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 03:38 AM PDT

Hey, anyone here would like to play together? As in 1 on 1. I've tried guilds but those missions are just too hectic for me, I don't like large groups haha. But sometimes it can get boring when you're alone. So anyone on EU server? I play PvE but I'm also interested in WvW.

    Greetings,

    Linda

Does it get better after the Personal Story?

    Posted: 19 Sep 2020 03:23 AM PDT

I've been playing various classes and races and the Personal story to chapter 2 or 3. And so far they are very short and boring. Seems like much of the playtime is actually spent wandering the map essentially grinding. Watched the rest of the chapters on Youtube. Still boring.

Does the story get better in the expansions?
