    ArenaNET please rethink how you sell the game with Steam release.

    I think it's a bit jarring that people buy the latest expansion yet discover that majority of the story content is still locked behind a paywall, I would argue it's bad first impression.

    And paying full price for Season 2 can make some quit for sure. I would say Seasons 3/4 and Icebrood saga are worth the asking price, but having it all just sitting there in Gem store feels off.

    Please release some new game edition with Steam release which bundles everything up to Icebrood saga, currently it feels like if WoW gave you the expansions, but charged the players for each patch during that expansion. I care for this game and honestly new player experience is probably the most important thing to get right especially for an older MMO.

    EDIT: I'm not saying they should give Seasons for free or stop selling them separately, just release a Complete edition to allow players buy it all at once.

    Discretize [dT] – Unorganized Groups Update

    Hey reddit,

    Just before the fractal rush event we wanted to give a quick heads-up that our website is now up to date. This update was one of the biggest ones in the history of Discretize: countless changes under the hood were done that required over a hundred hours of development time, resulting in a faster page with more features.

    More interesting for the player base are our new videos: we spent the last few weeks recording videos for both pick up groups (PuG) and also organized groups. Most of the videos even contain annotations explaining what is going on so that veterans and new players alike get the best possible studying material for picking up new builds or improving on them. We also added new ratings to each build to give an idea of how well it performs. The augmentation calculator was updated to include the new CM and weekly fractals. Finally, there was a huge contribution to heal firebrand resources!

    1. Changes to the build sites

    First and foremost we added a rating section to each build. On the former revision of the website it was not possible to get an idea of what a class excels at and what it's weaknesses are. Now we introduced five different categories, each rated with stars between one and five: - Synergy: how well this build synergizes with a team, in other words overall usefulness (CC, buffs, boons, heals, …) to the team. - DPS: the DPS this class can achieve in comparison to the other classes. This does not reflect the synthetic benchmarks of raid builds. - Independence: how well does this build work without receiving support from the team, in other words how well does it work in beginner and some pick up groups. - Acquiring basics: how easy is it to get started with the build. - Achieving mastery: how hard is it to master the build. Every member of dT had the possibility to submit their rating for each build that he was knowledgeable of. Then the average was calculated and put on the site.

    We decided to remove the synthetic benchmarks. This is because simply following a raid benchmark video in fractals yields terrible results due to missing out on the exposed modifier. The core component of all build sites are not the builds themselves but the guides and further information. These pages describe how to play a class on actual encounters, not just in an environment without any stimuli. Furthermore, we got a lot of questions asking why the person in the benchmark video used a different build than on our site, which caused confusion due to differing information.

    Instead of benchmark videos, our members recorded fractal openers. These represent the most efficient way to start a fractal boss in the first ~10 seconds of the fight. Due to most CM bosses having rather low HP it is possible to burn them down in about that time making a correct opener much more valuable than a full-blown rotation with a lower opener. Since fractals are fast-paced compared to other PvE content in the game and precasting is an essential part of fractals, we decided to extend the precasting section on the build sites right next to the opener videos.

    A frequent user of our site might have noticed that the tab layout of the build is gone. The most important information is now on a single page. The encounter specific guides are linked at the very top of the overview next to the build rating section. The encounter page for CM bosses was heavily revamped and gives the most important information right away (what sigils and food, weapons, skills/legends are optimal).

    2. Heal firebrand material

    Although we personally do not play this build, we worked hard on providing the best possible content for all fractal players. In previous updates of our website we focused on providing information for organized groups as this is where our focus as a guild lies, but this time we provide content for every fractal player.

    There is a huge guide for every single CM encounter for heal firebrand now, just like for the meta classes. We feel like this could be a very important resource not only for heal firebrands, but for the entire invested fractal community to learn more about mechanics and how to counter them.

    3. Sunqua Peak fractal guide

    Long awaited, the Sunqua Peak fractal guide. This time we took a different approach crafting this guide: we added gifs for the most important mechanics. Check it out yourself!

    4. New trial system: more support for applicants

    We revamped our trial process! We felt like the current system (join and figure it out on your own) is not providing the necessary support. So there are two major changes:

    Introduction of the grind rank: You can apply as a grinder allowing you to get a peek at the dT strategies and learn more about the game before you make the decision to apply as a trial. You will be paired up with instructors of Discretize that teach you the ropes. Each week there will be a run scheduled with at least two members of Discretize. Please keep in mind that due to limited capacities we have to restrict the maximum time a person may hold the grind rank to 4 weeks. After that your instructor either recommends to the trial instructors to transfer you to the trial or sends you off with advice on how to improve.

    This community service is meant to provide an insight into our expectations towards applicants and what it is like to play in higher-end teams. Many people are unsure if they should apply or not - this rank should give them all the information and a taste of the trial to make the decision.

    Improvement of the trial rank: Due to the introduction of the grind rank we do not accept application logs with heal firebrand anymore. Anyone has the option now to join as grind and get decent logs. The trial is more about showing that you did your homework and put in effort than being a perfect player already.

    5. Fixed blank pages and a short dive into technical information

    A lot of people were encountering blank pages on our site that were linked to adblocker. I finally managed to find the root cause of this and eliminate it. For people that are interested: our website is coded with react. The gatsby-plugin-offline was causing these issues, so I removed it.

    Our leader and founder Metagame, who sadly quit the game a while ago, built a modern implementation of gw2-armory called gw2-ui. I finally implemented that. There were many issues in the process: we meant to post this update yesterday but unfortunately the performance was unacceptably bad. So Metagame pushed a fix that improved one part but brought up another issue. He recommended that I look into react-in-viewport, so that we only load the gw2-components while they are on the screen of the user as opposed to rendering everything on site load. That dramatically improved the performance as can be seen. Past versions of the website stored the gw2-api locally so that there were not any expensive API lookups, that however caused the bill to spike twice as high. So we went back to the former approach of resolving the gw2-components client sided.

    6. Letter of appreciation, guide contributions and Patreon

    I want to thank everybody who contributed to this update. About half of the guild's members were involved in this update. Most prominently, I want to thank Vince for editing all the videos with the dT branding and style. He put in countless hours, without him the end product would not look as clean and high quality as it does now.

    Also, all the members of dT that contributed with text guides, videos, gifs and information deserve a huge thanks. They owe their time to no one and yet the website update was literally the only topic for the past ~2 weeks in our internal discord.

    Many learned how to use the markdown editor to contribute guides, proving that even the least technical-inclined individuals can edit the guides.     I'm barely on the second mission. But the cinematic they show you before you can start season two absolutely doesn't prepare you enough for the storyline or chacters imho. it's kind of frustrating, especially since I bothered to read 2 of the 3 novels before playing the personal story and now it all feels pointless in a way?

    i know the season 1 recap mentions all the new characters but it was still weird to just have all of them in the first mission of season 2. And then the Zephyrites and their ship, none of that was introduced to players. I had to slog through the wiki summaries to get some semblance of an idea of what's going on. thanks for letting me vent lol

    I've been finding mounts more and more annoying. At first it was mostly in cities. I would summon my mount only to find my character stuck halfway in the ground. I now look out for railings or boxes to stand on so I don't get stuck. Now I'm noticing it happen in maps more and more often.

    Is it just me or is this a problem for everyone?

    Downside to playing the story with different characters?

    Hello! I'm pretty new to Guild Wars 2 and have a few characters on level 80. Three to be precise. One has finished their personal story and one Living World Season 2. Now I would like to play Heart of Thorns but maybe on a different character as well.

    Now my question is: Is there a negative side effect if I play through the stories with different characters and not stick to one?

    While killing my daily Krait for the rosty key, I thought about what other players that finished the story and map do daily. Or the goals they have in the game.

    [Suggestion] All or most armor and weapon skins should belong to a collection
