What if I told you that my naive mind sincerely thought that I could just walk into Ascalonian Catacombs as a complete noob and solo it at level 28?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 08:33 PM PDT

Hey guys! Here again to share my noobie experience of discovering this game!

So yes, as the title states, I did try to do my first dungeon ever by myself. Man did I get my butt kicked! I managed to kill 3-4 random mobs in the first room in what felt like the most intense battle I ever did in this whole game.

I actually had a lot of fun fighting what I suppose is considered to be trash mobs. I took every enemy 1 on 1 and it was so technically demanding, tough and unforgiving (for my skill with the game of course) that it legit made for an intense and rewarding experience on every mob, even those who I'm guessing would be easy with a full team.

So when I left the dungeon, having accomplished nothing in terms of progression in the instance, I still had 3 extremely satisfying victories under my belt that felt just as rewarding to me as how an actual hard boss would be for a full team.

So that's when my question appears: Was that a good idea in your opinion? Considering that I love challenge, I'm not worried about efficiency and I'm trying to squeeze as much fun as possible out of every piece of content I stumble upon before moving on.

By the way, I'm only doing this for the increased challenge it offers, not because I don't like to group up or whatever. Social interactions are probably my favorite part of MMORPGs but when we're talking about early dungeons, I'm wondering if I could actually make "easy" content harder and epic by putting restrictions on myself like this one?

Have you personally ever tried to apply restrictions to yourself to spice up your experience? How did it change your gameplay and would you recommend I do the same like I did with this dungeon?

I do have to admit I have no idea what I'm getting myself into and don't want to risk burning out by being over ambitious. I like challenges and I'm very patient but if I'm trying something that is mathematically impossible I'd rather know right away.

I'll leave the video link here, as always, for those who want to see my story in action: https://youtu.be/Wtf0a3Z_stY

A new race is cool but I hope we will get better character customization with the new expansion.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 02:15 AM PDT

Don't get me wrong, the characters are not ugly and in other ways the game leaves a lot of room for individualism, for example the dye system for armor and mounts, transmuting pieces, it's wonderful! ignoring costumes

However, that just makes the character customization options seem all the more lackluster, to the point where the characters suffer from same-face-syndrome.

No options for proportions, very little room for the customization of the nose, facial structure etc.

For humans and Norn especially it feels much more like dressing up the same doll with different clothes, rather than actually different characters.

I don't want to be able to make hellish abominations, but what I and a lot of other players DO want is being able to give their character more... characterMake them older, younger, have a hook nose, high cheekbones etc.

    Please Anet.

I really like the Guild Wars 2 story

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 07:47 PM PDT

Imma preface by saying I havant played to many story driven games (think last of us type deal) and definitely recognize that Guild Wars 2 story is far from perfect, like how they relied on death as a crutch, especially in earlier parts.

But apart from that I just really enjoy it. Its been a lot of fun, Guild Wars 2 is in a pretty cool place since its an 8 year old mmo which means they can have the passage of time almost literally. Seeing the commander go from a veritable nobody being thrust into the spotlight, having mentor figures, dealing with loss, building their legend then becoming a mentor figure is really cool way to tell a story.

Especially since this idea of death following you has been thrown around quite a view times you get a sense of weight and expectation on your shoulders and when you fail, it feels that any fallout from that, since it was probably your doing to a degree is all well earned, "your the Commander how could this happen" sorta deal.

This paired with a really cool world thats been built and characters that I personally enjoy varying from subversion of expectations like Rox and Canach. To characters that may be cliche have a lot of charm like Taimi and Braham. Also some just really cool ones like Tybalt and Joko.

Anyway im kinda rambling but its been fun, the story started for me as an inspiration to level up, into something i thoroughly look forward to

Some other random stuff im just gonna mention are how its been cool to see the technical side develop like how we started with weird cut scenes with blue backgrounds, which became dialogue on location. Then we got actual really well made cut scenes and then finally cut scenes with the actual commander in them.

Condi or Power for shortbow renegade?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 06:44 AM PDT

I've seen for raid build they recommend viper gear but for everything else people are doing fine with berserkers and shortbow. For open world, what would you recommend? I know generally condi builds are not for short engagements since they need time to build up but shortbow seems like a condi weapon for renegade.

    Thank you!

Here's a fun game I discovered using a little-known (to me at least) item

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 10:13 AM PDT

    • Go to trading post, buy a 'Twisted Watchwork Portal Device' for ~20s

    • Go to general settings, set HUD to 'Always Hide All'

    • Use the Portal Device

    • Try and get back to Lions Arch (or any other location you choose) without opening the map!

Just something to kill time really, I've discovered some great places I wouldn't have explored otherwise and rediscovered the sense of exploration lost after reaching endgame / map completion etc. Plus with the new skimmer mastery, getting around the map has never been more enjoyable

Whats the point of doing raids? (Outside of for the fun)

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 06:50 AM PDT

So i recently got level 80, but per my understanding, you can get the BiS items via easier ways? In other mmos raids usually tend to give exclusive items that are better than everything else, but that does not seem to be the case here or did I misunderstood?

New GW2 Raiding League Website launched!

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 08:15 AM PDT

    Hey Friends!

You may have heard about the GW2 Raiding League project in the past, in which we encourage raiders to challenge themselves and compete for prizes and glory – in a way that fits your schedule.

Today I am happy to announce that we have gone the next step in making the GW2 Raiding League the best it can be, by launching the official GW2 Raiding League Website:

    gw2raidleague.com

There you can find general info about the project, as well as the rules and the current leaderboards.

On the monthly-results page, you will be able to find a showcase of each monthly competition's results, including all the submitted videos and crediting each month's winners.

    https://gw2raidleague.com/category/raidleague

We also aimed to make our website a platform for our participating guilds! We have sites dedicated to both our gold and silver-league teams to showcase their amazing successes and give them a place to introduce themselves to the community! Go check them out on

    https://gw2raidleague.com/gold-league

    https://gw2raidleague.com/silver-league

Last but not least, this project would not function without an amazing community. Not only are we grateful for the donors that support the league through in-game donations, but also to the streamers that have gotten involved and of course the many helpers that are organizing the event. To showcase all of these amazing people we have made a community-page to celebrate these amazing individuals!

    https://gw2raidleague.com/community

If you want to see the site in action, join us on www.twitch.tv/samajestay today at 6pm CEST, where we will announce the August-Competition's winners. This month we had a fun competition revolving around the Mursaat Overseer, that will NOT be counted into the general leaderboards, as it is part of the league's summer-break. The Regular competitions will resume next month!Rumors are, that this stream will include one more mystery announcement... ;)

We have been working on this for a while now so I hope you guys will enjoy the fruits of our labors!

Have fun raiding and I'll see you all tonight!

    Icebrood saga?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 07:49 AM PDT

I bought the deluxe edition of gw2 which included all the expansions and The Icebrood saga. But when I logged in today, it said that I needed to pay 200 gems to start the first episode. Is this something that will unlock when I've finished the Personal story or did ArenaNet kind of tricked me into paying more money?

Potential solution for raid rewards feeling low

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 12:33 PM PDT

Guild Wars 2 raids are amazing content. Unfortunately, many feel this content is either inaccessible, or not worth the effort. After having built your legendary armour, returning to raids has little value past simply enjoying them (and maybe making around 50 flat gold a week).

Implementing a reward track via the achievement panel, like the Drizzlewood Coast one, that would give extra rewards based on the number of raid bosses/events completed could potentially breath more life into raids. It would first add more rewards, such as clovers for completion and mystic coins along the way, and make the endgame content give satisfying endgame rewards. Second, this track would be uncapped: only limited by your access to an instance with an available boss.

This second part I think is really important. Sure, hardcore players could multi-account for instances, but that just means they bought the x-pac again so more money for Anet. But on the other hand, an experienced player 1 kill away from, say, a box of 50 mixed blood trophies would be more likely to join a VG or Cairn pug group and help others get their weekly kills. It would give a reason of players to go back and raid again after their own personal weekly clears.

Some other aspects to consider would be making CMs give more points on this track, and maybe taking a page out of ff14 and dropping extra points for a party member's first ever kill on a boss.

Raids are the hardest content in the game, and should give players loot that reflects that. A static that raids for 6-8 hrs to clear everything should at least get rewards as good as a map meta where you hit 1 for 2 hours.

I'd like to hear if anyone has any improvements to this idea, or any red flags I may have missed with this system. It seems easy enough to implement, given the world boss train event basically already does this.

What kind of attribute combinations would you like to see with Cantha?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 06:40 PM PDT

Just what it says in the title. I feel like between all of the expansions and core we have a wide selection of combinations, but every expansion has added a few and we can probably expect some with End of Dragons.

Me personally I'd love a Diviner's like attribute but with Healing Power instead of Concentration, so [+Power, +Healing Power, -Precision, -Ferocity]. It could be fun on life steal power builds such as Thief, Revenant, and Reaper. There's a ton of options so, what would you want?

Promo code does not work after canceled payment

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 08:05 AM PDT

    Hi,
today I tried to buy the standard pack on buy.guildwars2.com page using promo code ANNIVERSARY50. Unfortunately I had to cancel payment process, so I came back after 30 minutes to start whole process again. This time when I enter a promo code I get "Invalid promo code" message.

I've already cleaned the cache, deleted all cookies and it still does not work. It looks like their shop assumes that I've already used this code so I can't use it again.
Has the same situation happened to someone? Is there a way to list unpaid orders so I can pay for it now?
