    Summit quitting GW2

Arena.net needs seriously to address the issue of server lags (at least in Europe)

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 07:00 PM PDT

The lags not caused by players was an issue since PoF release. Since then, the lags are there on every single new map post-PoF release. Recently, it seems like it worsened to the point, where I hear everyday people complaining this on map chat, it feels like some of them are on verge of quitting the game, some of them already quit and some of them will quit eventually. The issue must be addressed as soon as possible, people hate the lags more than bad content, it affects new players as well, as there are stories around the community about players quitting right after starting PoF content due to unbearable lags. I have no shade of doubt it needs to be fixed as soon as possible, but not sure if Arena Net realizes that, hence this post. Feel free to speak about Your lag experience under this post, maybe some Anet employee will read it, maybe push it through to management and maybe, just maybe they will finally address the issue that was overlooked for far too long.

Inb4: It's pandemic fault, there is a lot of new players out there and they are overpopulating servers!
No, it's not true, it happens even in a middle of night where there are not even enough players to do some meta events, not to mention generally maps are nearly empty. It's something wrong with either code of the game or servers themselves.

Jormag Rising Music - 35 minutes long soundtrack w/ some of my observations :3

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 03:21 AM PDT

Jormag Rising music brought back a lot of motives from the past updates with new, more fitting melodies. Finally the Sound Team put trailer music into the game(!): "Eagle Flight" "Ox Spirit" are renditions of Shadow in the Ice trailer music (composed originally by Brendon Williams) and the piece I called "One Charr, One Dragon, One Champion" is a rendition of Jormag Rising trailer music (Composed by Bryan Atkinson, that recently joined Guild Wars 2 Team).

"Pantheon of the Wild" has 4 different renditions composed by Maclaine Diemer and are based on "Alpine Marches" and "Spirits of the Wild". I think they are beautifully combined and make the whole scene when Braham summons the Spirits really magical and the music gives that warmth of the Pantheon at the gates of Jormag's Citadel. I love how the 4th rendition is a little more dramatic than the other 3 - it's when we accidentally summon the Owl Spirit as well.

"Ryland's Revenge" is a rendition of Bangar's War Machine composed by Maclaine Diemer. It's quite sad to think Ryland is now alone, and the only person who saw true potential in him was Jormag. Some may say Smodur's assassination was weird, but if I really think about it such sudden death was predictable, because Smodur killed Cinder just like that in front of Ryland... It was when he knew Jormag is the only one that can save him from the ones he called "family".

"Claw of Jormag" reminds me of Raid music, it has that Vale Guardian/Sabetha feel. I really like the piano used in both this track and "Jormag's Lair". The ending reminds me of Grothmar Valley's theme - the drums I think have the same rhythm.

Speaking of "Jormag's Lair" - First part reminds me of "Braham's Transformation" then I absolutely love the ending of this track - it's so strange and creepy with that single female voice and piano bits in the end. I think it's based on Jormag's leitmotif from the Icebrood Saga trailer music. And it foreshadows "The Awakening".

"The Awakening" was composed by Bryan Atkinson and I was so happy when he told my observation on it - that it is like a dialogue between Jormag and Ryland - was just as the Sound Team wanted :)

I wrote: "The music is like a dialogue - I love when it gets softer when Jormag speaks alluding to their Domain of Persuation."

To which Bryan Atkinson replied: "The comment about the music being a dialogue is EXACTLY what the developers mentioned when we talked about the music. They wanted it to feel like a duel manipulation between Jormag and Ryland....which I thought was brilliant."

When I asked him what's the original name of "The Awakening" he replied: "Honestly, I called it Mr. Freeze just as a sort of working "joke name." I haven't named it yet really haha." which I thought is quite funny, and kinda spot on anyway, cos Bangar and Ryland are now "Mr Freeze" and Jormag is basically too, lol :D

United Legion Against Bangar I'm not sure I like that horn part in the end, but I like this track, it has that military sound in it :)

And the last, but not least "Frost Citadel" which is a sequence of some leitmotives and mostly random creepy, ambient sounds which I think fit the whole instance.

    tl;dr, but you should:

I gathered all the music pieces in a playlist and in one video.

Also check Ray Koopa's Extended Eagle Flight track. :)

    Music nerd signs off :)

Now I only need u/Kossage and his best observations :3

Never played an MMO before... Looking to start with GW2(Tips?)

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 05:13 AM PDT

Just moved to PC from console a few months ago and I've never played an MMO before. After looking into the most popular ones I decided I liked the look of the world and character creation of GW2.

Is this game subscription based? DLC? How much money do I have to spend as a new player?

If anyone has a good post I could refer to or video thats up to date that would also be great!

Defensive build for t4 fractals or raids by 200 li hfb

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 08:56 AM PDT

I understand that most of you would like to fully follow snowcrow or discretize's builds. However, those builds only work with teammates who knows exactly what they are doing.

This is my build that i have been running to allow my runs to go smoothly thus far. [&DQExOS4qPj9LF0sXNgE2AVMXUxd6FnoWiRKJEgAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA=]

Can anyone explain how to do this type of movement with Ranger?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 05:31 AM PDT

In this video at about 56 or 57 seconds into the video, a streamer does some movement with Ranger's Shortbow and sword moveset that I can't figure out. His shortbow 3 ability is supposed to leap him backwards, but instead it kind of pauses and almost leaps him forward instead. I noticed he didn't turn the camera at all as well. About 4 seconds after (he used sword ability 2 within those 4 seconds) that he performs his swords 3 ability, which normally sends you backwards even further, but again, does the opposite and sends him leaping forwards. Did these abilities change function since the time he posted this video? Is there some mechanic I am unaware about? I would like to incorporate this type of movement into my own gameplay. If someone could teach me (and if its not considered cheating), it would be greatly appreciated.

DWC North (portal) mobs don't give exp, which messes with a lot of various mechanics

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 08:18 AM PDT

Skills/traits that have conditions for kills, stacking sigils — these are old problems we've seen in many old events. The new one to add to the mix now is the Essence-based magic find buff. Good luck keeping that up to last up to or past the Claw fight. It also means you basically don't get any credit killing these enemies for the special missions. There seem to be just a couple per portal which actually give credit.

I can kind of understand why they don't want the Bloodfield/Citadel/Roost portal enemies exp. They are effectively infinite spawns and the general practice has been to make those types of spawns not give exp/loot. I can also understand that they probably coded those to behave the same between the final push and the events which require you to kill to clear the portals in the first steps of DWC North.

Would be neat to see this improved
