    Pre Searing Map Expansion 2.0

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 04:53 PM PDT

    Hey guys!

10 months ago, I posted an expansion for Pre Searing, and it was met with so many positive reviews. Now, with the new Elite skills and the awesome update they have done for the 15 year annivesary, I think it is time to review this as someone else has also posted an expanded map for Pre Searing.

I think it would be so awesome for the Devs to do this as a lot of people love Pre Searing and most of the content is technically already there, it would just need to be opened up.

Here is a link to my original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars/comments/bx0olr/pre_searing_map_expansion/

    and https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars/comments/bwjkxy/pre_searing_expansion_theorycraft/

Here is a link to the other one posted recently by someone else: https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars/comments/ffe34k/expanded_presearing_map/

    The key takeaways are:

    - Opening up Ascalon Arena for 2v2 PvP battles

    - Adding an elite skill for every class to find and capture, someone that Pre Searing really needs

    - Opening up the map to more outposts, quests and places to explore

    - And potentially adding a Pre Searing Hard Mode for Level 20s.

    Thanks guys!

So are any of these new anniversary weapons useable?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 01:52 AM PDT

As far as I understand they all still need the main weapon skill to do any damage so are any of them worth getting other than as a novelty?

    I overthought today...

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 12:09 AM PDT

Somebody posted something about the pre-searing update and it got me thinking about both games for a moment. GW2 vs GW1 that I use to hear a lot. I remember being conflicted because I loved a lot of things about both games. Yet, I felt everything that GW2 thrives on its own merits didn't really need Guild Wars Lore.

I think this why I was upset initially upset. Then, I think to lose all the classes and abolish the holy trinity type aspect didn't help either. As I got back onto GW.1 I just remembered why I felt upset initially upset about GW2. It was just the way it felt.

I'll put it this way. GW2, when it got rid of the holy trinity, created this mush type feeling with all professions. Like you could play any of them and find a way to make feel like the other classes. I think that is something the holy trinity adds to a game. I also think GW1 broke many of the things I think of as holy trinity with the very defined heal, DPS, and tank classes. Mesmer is my example. Yet, if you didn't go with a healer you were SoL in GW1 most the time.

Yet, I go back to that feel type thing again where each class felt like no other class could copy the other class truly. Even though the secondary profession allowed you to come closer to making other classes feel similar. I think unique attributes like fast casting, energy storage, and strength still allowed those classes to feel independent. An E/W didn't feel the same as W/E.

Don't think I'm bashing GW2 but to me what draws me to games is that feeling of playing with people. To me, GW1 at the height at least felt like you could be anywhere on the map and people were looking to team up and play missions. Now, it's kind of like way GW2 feels to me now. If you miss a story or starting over on a new alt. It's either Solo the game or begging people to help.

I get why GW1 is more the way it is now too. It's an older game and the amount of people that played it over the last X amount of years hasn't been the same. Yet, part me wonders if it could still compete with major titles with a major graphical facelift even if it was called GW (2.0) or whatever to make say it's the same old core game with no Z-axis but more beautiful update graphical game. To me, mechanics is what makes the game great but graphics make it feel out of date.

    Solo experience

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 09:20 PM PDT

I'm a returning player who hasn't touched the game since around 2008. Was really curious on getting back into the game and was glad to see an active subreddit still going. I assume the player base is very minimal and wanted to know what the experience is like to only solo the game. I remember the draws of the game were the guild and group aspects and was curious if it is still enjoyable to play the campaign with no social interaction

    New ranger sword - Prominence

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 05:25 PM PDT

Is this sword worth looking at, or would a normal Sword Mastery sword be better if you're putting the points in Sword Mastery anyway? I feel like I'm missing something here lol.

I just came back for the update and pretty much only play ranger, I am curious about other weapons as well if anyone has any interesting thoughts or bits of fun info on those as well.

    E/W Build with Anniversary Axe

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 03:37 AM PDT

I've been trying to develop a melee E/W build with the addition of the new anniversary Axe that requires Energy Storage. So far, I have this:

Cyclone Axe, Shockwave, Crystal Wave, Aftershock, Sliver Armor, Optional, Stone Striker, Earth Attunement

    Template Code: OgFUkYWKnaOKlUX2wVwDBAb1UBA

    Earth: 12 + 1 + 3

    E Storage = 9 + 1

    Axe = 3

    Tactics = 9 (for shield)

    The equipment I'm using:

    • Zealous Anniversary Axe "Engrave" of Defense
    • Shield of Devotion with "Like a Rolling Stone" Inscription (+10 Armor vs Earth Dmg)
    • Geomancer Insignias

I've been using in HM over the last day or two and it seems to work relatively well. Most foes fall before they scatter due to AoE damage (I also have 2 ESurge Mesmers in the team build, so could be that too). My questions surrounding the build are:

The wiki says the axe dmg scales with Axe Mastery, despite requiring Energy Storage - what does that mean?

What should I put in the optional space? Something that increases armour?

Is cyclone axe necessary - I mainly had it in for energy to sync with the Zealous Axe, but it costs 5e to cast so unless I'm hitting 5+ foes, is it worth it?

Thinking of removing Aftershock for a non-AoE skill, but what?

Finally, have also been thinking of making a Star Burst build instead but went to Earth Magic first - would this be better?

Edit: Also, which Inscription would be best for the Axe?

Heroic Refrain Tech -- 80% CD Reduction Mes Team (Post Patch)

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 10:05 AM PDT

After running some tests I have found that the new HR Allows for mesmers to further break the recharge limit threshold. For those who aren't aware the recharge threshold caps at 50% from all sources,With the exception of Fast Casing in PvE. However with the new HR para skill powering up mesmers, they are able to maintain a permanent 80% cool down reduction (same as the pre-patched Time Ward) in a way that can be utilized in SC or general PvE.
    Let's break it down:

    The Tech:
HR (Heroic Refrain) can be assumed to give all attributes of the user's primary profession 20 points. With mesmer, this means that we are able to hit 20 Fast casting which will reduce all of our Mesmer spell cool downs by 60%. However, since we know that fast casting bypassing the threshold, we can apply cool down reduction up to the threshold (50%) to maximize our cool down reduction. This is where we bring in QZ (Quickening Zephyr) to reach the threshold immediately. While under the effects of QZ with 20 Fast casting a mesmer will have its casting times reduced by 50%, then by 60%.
    30s cool down * (1 - 0.5 modifier) *(1 - 0.6 Modifier) = 6 second cool down.
15s cool down[...] = 3 second cool down.

    Theory Builds:
These are very generalized builds meant for theorycrafting with the tech:
    P/R Thanos Loudmouth:
    OQKkgymKGWK0ZdP2OGAAAAAw2BdJS
    Me/E Snare and Finisher
    OQZCAswkSA03BYTAAAAAAAdJ
    Me/X Esurge spam
    OQBCAsw0JQTwSQQAAAAAAAdJ

For large groups of foes use echo chain while QZ is being placed. Then use esurge and spam.
For high health enemies (dungeon bosses) Use echo chain while setting up QZ, then use esurge spam on cool down while the snare mes uses Echo on Earthen Shackles to lock the enemy in place and spam aneurysm for massive damage (boss energy pool permitting).

While QZ is up the paragon needs to make sure that shouts end to renew HR before using them again.

    For Fun:
Some other things I've found with the tech:
○Using Mantra of Recovery + BU will work similar to QZ, but consumes the elite slot.
○Using Psychic instability with 20 FC knocks all foes down for 5 seconds on a ~2-3s cool down.
○Spiritual Pain becomes flare and makes it impossible for enemies to maintain spirits / minions.
○Shatter hex in hex-heavy areas turns your frontliner into a keg farmer.
○Wandering eye + Shared Burden can almost lock down a martial enemy. Sorry Master of hammers.
○Multiple Mesmers with complicate effectively blackout same-type enemy mobs.

Hope this gives some speedclear theorycrafters some ideas! Happy testing.

Quick question about Gertrud ( Vasburg Armory )

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 02:45 AM PDT

I'm currently outfitting my mesmer and her hero team, and it's time to get weapons. I'm wondering if I can craft the sets I need on my ritualist ( without customizing them ) and then move them to the mesmer via storage? It's been too long for me to remember if just crafting the weapons on character A will automatically bind them to character A. I'd rather not experiment and waste materials/gold. Thanks!

Cartographer made easy: Crash in crystal desert

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 01:32 AM PDT

    Hey there,

I'm back to GW after being hardly active for the past year. Back then, my setup with uMod and three texture mods was running smoothly: MinimalusUI, CartoMadeEasy and IngameMissionMaps.

Back to today, the CartoMadeEasy Mod works, but crashes the game every time I zoom in on the Crystal Desert area. Funny thing: only happens on my workstation. On my laptop with the exact same versions of GW, uMod and CartoMadeEasy, this does not happen. Notable difference: Win10 on workstation, Win8.1 on laptop.

    Any ideas? Cheers.

    Starting with a friend

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 02:40 PM PDT

My friend has never played before and I have thousands of hours in Proph/Factions. Do you think it would make most sense for him to pick a profession he wants, start in that campaign, and play from there? Or start with Prophecies in most situations?

Way to calculate the new Rit elite

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 09:27 AM PDT

    There are 20 weapon spells.

A typical 8 man team, one MM, + Legio easily gets to 20 allies.

So a simple math to give an idea about the skill, lets say one gets each weapon spell.

I will consider 15 second upkeep of the weapon spells after that a recast.

    The damage spells are

    splinter 5x53 =265 (likely 5 attacks in 15 sec)

    nightmare 53x3 =160 (also likely)

    brutal 16xattacks/5 attacks 80 (i will consider 1 attack every 3 sec)

    venge 60 if attacked

    xinrae 80dmg if attacked

    remedy 75dmg if attacked

    Total of 720 damage

Several are of little value in this setting or are hard to calculate:

ghostly unblockable, guided unblockable, shadow blind, renewal +en

    aggression 25% ias, sunderig 10%

there are 2 rupt that are quite valuable in this settings

    warmonger, wailing

other than the other skills are strong protection/healing/life support,

one in every 5 allies will get one of this, and ease the load on the healers/prots:

    vital +hp

    resilient hp regen+armor

    warding block+hp regen

    spirit light +30/sec hp 450healing

The direct 720 damage is not huge for 15sec time, brings total to 48 DPS, still a significant number. (SoS in comparison does 31 DPS/ 62 DPS with PB).

but adding the rupts, health and prot on top makes this skill very strong.

If effective dual MM in team would make it even stronger.

Or in missions and maps that have more than 8 party or more allies this skill gets exponentially better.

Even in the simple 1MM scenario, likely one of, if not the best Rit elites in the game.

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 11:02 AM PDT

Effect stacking still applies to the new skills.

Keep that in mind when creating your new builds, so that others are safe from explaining why it doesn't work as intended.

Farming / Money Making in 2020

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 11:04 AM PDT

I am an old school player returning (and loving it) and been playing for a few months now. Today while doing all the anniversary stuff I realized that I have no idea how to farm anymore in the current state of the game. Can the great people of this sub give an excited returning player some help with what / how I can farm in the current game? I used to 55 monk farm the UW but I read that that is no longer viable because of some other enemies that were added to the game later. For context, I have 3 maxed characters (Warrior, Ranger, and Monk) and I am leveling a Ritualist and a Paragon while playing through the Factions and Nightfall campaign. Any help or resources would be awesome!

Update: These are some great suggestions guys! Another quick question! Do you guys have a resource for checking prices? I don't want to start farming for some extra cash and not selling at a decent price.

    Can't buy on Steam?

So, I am locked out of the game I bought 6 months ago for not remember a character. I only played them for a couple hours and clearly the name wasn't very memorable. Now, I am debating just buying another CD key, however, I can't buy the game again on Steam as I already did. What are my other options?

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 08:32 PM PDT

If youre out of the loop, Guild Wars released a new batch of elite skills that allow extreme levels of versatility and utility for all classes and weapons that almost sort of function as legendary weapons. That being said- as a returning player from 12 years of being offline, what can I do with this new PvE content?

Anyone want to trade for a Bonus Mission Pack Code?

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 10:01 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I thought due to the current sale in the GW1 store I'd upgrade my account a bit with some character slot, and xunlai upgrades as well as the bonus mission pack. Turns out, this isn't the first time I've had this idea, so when I was activating them I noticed that I already own the BMP. So now I have a spare code. Now I'd love to be able to trade this with anyone who doesn't have if for a character slot or storage upgrade. If nobody is willing to trade, I'll be forced to give it away at some point, but I'll give trading a shot for a more mutually beneficial ending.
