Started playing again after five years and I'm genuinely having an amazing time

    Posted: 22 Apr 2020 09:47 PM PDT

I played GW2 from launch and very on and off right up until HoT was getting ready to launch, and then I stopped playing until just last night. Honestly I am not really too sure why I didn't get hooked when the game came out, but wow, this game right now is really something else. Although the game's graphics are starting to age a bit, it's still a really gorgeous game, especially the paint brush style.

Before coming back to this I was trying to get into BDO, and GW2 in comparison really just knocks it out of the park with their UI. Everything's exactly where you need it to be. There's no spam, it's clear, intuitive, and pleasant to look at. I really like the addition of the non-intrusive visual notifications that let you what you got when you leveled, what's coming up next, etc.

I'm typically a PvP'er in all MMO's through and through and don't usually pay attention to outside content, but I find myself going for map completion, engaging in the story, and just enjoying the world since coming back. I forgot how much fun combat in this game was with the mix of being interactive with dodge rolls and tab targeting.

I can also tell a pretty big difference in the time it takes to complete events and quests in comparison to when I last played years ago. Everything's pretty respectful of your time and so far isn't really a slog anymore. It really adds a pleasing pace to the gameplay. I like how this game has also still stuck to the solo-friendly approach it has always had for the majority of content. This is one of the biggest selling points with GW2 for me. As a working parent, being able to hop on and just do my thing solo without being gimped because I'm not playing with others is extremely awesome.

What I'm most excited about is all of the content I have to catch up on, there's literally five years worth of stuff I missed. I picked Elementalist so I can play Weaver when I get to that point. Weaver looks like an absolute blast to play.

Overall, I just wanted to share my good feelings. Hopefully it's not a honeymoon phase, and if it is, I hope I can at least enjoy the game as much as I am right now. I'm really excited to PvP and I hope it's not entirely dead because I've waited so long to play the game again, lol.

The new weapon "Engrave" in GW1 might hint at the canthan elite spec for Elementalists being able to use an Axe

    Posted: 22 Apr 2020 03:51 PM PDT

TLDR: We got cool new skills and weapons in GW1. Because the weapons seem to be connected to the GW2 professions, I think that there might be a good chance that the new elite spec for Elementalists in Cantha will feature an axe and some profession might be getting Ritualist as an elite spec.

As most players will probably be aware of, today is a special day for the GW1 community because we got a few new weapons and, surprisingly, PVE-Elite skills. These skills and weapons seem to showcase the development the professions underwent in the 200+ years until GW2.

To start off, I really enjoyed the little nods at GW2 in the new skill. For example, the new Mesmer elite skill, Time Ward, seems to be the precursor to Time Warp. I also find it ironic that it scales with Fast Casting, an attribute that was abandoned by the Mesmer in GW2, explaining why Time Warp appears overall worse off than its precursor.

There is also Vow of Revolution, a Dervish skill that profits from not using Dervish skills. I guess it is a meta joke towards Dervishes not having their expected return as an elite spec in POF, instead being incorporated into the modern Spellbreakers, compared to the still existing conservative Dervishes and Paragons. The new anniversary Daggers Vengeance which requires leadership, a Paragon attribute, also ties to the Spellbreaker lore, as the former Sunspears had to give up their spears and could only use the spike of it as a dagger, which is the reason for it being the weapon used by Spellbreakers.

So, it appears that the new skills as well as the weapons tie neatly into the development of the professions between GW1 and GW2. There are however a few exceptions I noticed. Let's list the new weapons and the required attributes, shall we?

Shortbow "Whispers" – Critical Strikes – Assassin

Daggers "Vengeance" – Leadership – Paragon

Spear "Arbalest" – Strength – Warrior

Hammer "Verdict" – Divine Favor – Monk

Scythe "Sufferer" – Soul Reaping – Necromancer

Shield "Curtain" – Fast Casting – Mesmer

Staff "Unveil" – Mysticism – Dervish

Anniversary Sword "Prominence" – Expertise – Ranger

Axe "Engrave" – Energy Storage – Elementalist

Flatbow "Oracle" – Spawning Power – Ritualist

As you may notice, the weapons seem to correspond to a weapon that can be used by the linked professions in GW2. Assassins developed into Thieves, able to use shortbows. We already explained the connection between Dervishes, Paragons and Spellbreakers with the dagger and spear. Guardians, the modern Monks, can use a hammer. Necromancers staff auto attack features a scythe effect – and of course there is the reaper elite spec. Chronomancers can use a shield. The staff for Dervishes may be a nod towards scythes (the weapon of choice for a Dervish) only making an appearance as staff skins in GW2. Rangers can use both swords and greatswords in GW2.

Which leaves us with two outliers: The Flatbow "Oracle" for the ritualist and the axe "Engrave", intended for the Elementalist.

I have thought for a while about it, but I can't see an already existing the connection. Yes, Elementalists can use flame axes, but the weapon in question is not fiery at all. Which leads me to a wild guess: Since Cantha is confirmed by now, I think it might be possible that the axe and the bow are hints towards new elite specializations. More specifically, I think that Elementlists will get to use an axe with their new elite spec and that the Ritualist might end up as the new elite Spec, using a bow.

But which class might get to be a Ritualist? If you take another look at the weapon list and my explanation, you might notice that several professions got referenced by their elite spec instead of their base class – Chronomancers with the Shield, Reapers with the scythe, etc. This leaves us with all of the light armor professions being referenced, if we include Elementalist with the axe. For the medium armor, we can probably take the Engineer out of the equation, as the profession not only did not exist in GW1, but also does not use complex magic in GW2. This leaves us with Thiefs and Rangers only getting weapons they can already use with their base profession this update. Warriors are accounted for, leaving Guardian and Revenant.

If the Elite Spec really plays any role here, this leaves us with Thiefs, Revenants, Guardians and Rangers as potential Ritualists. However, as the Elite Spec seems to feature a bow, which can already be used in both variants by Ranger, this leaves us only with Thief, Revenant and Guardian. Since the flatbow had longer range in GW1, I will assume it to translate into a longbow in GW2. Since Dragonhunters can already use longbows, this leaves us with either Thief or Revenant. Both already use shortbows. While Thiefs do not seem to fit well here, I can easily picture a Revenant channeling the legends of the canthan heroes or their ancestors.

Disclaimer: I am just a simple player of both games who thinks that they might have found an interesting potential hint. There is no solid evidence, just a few things that might indicate the developers (maybe already scrapped) plans for potential future elite specs. Nevertheless, I enjoyed writing this little hypothesis. If you have something to add or criticize, just let me know in the comments. If you flat out disagree with my hypothesis, you are of course free to post your reasoning for it – but please remember that this post is not to be taken too seriously and should not be a reason for you to personally insult or harass me (I really wish I would not have to make this so clear, alas personal experience taught me better…).

    Gorseval and Spirit Threads

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 07:06 AM PDT

Hey all, i am currently doing the first colection for the envoy armor set, and after visiting the wiki, i couldnt understand if gorseval drops spirit threads in his boss chest, the one with the golden statue, or the event rewards and his coffer. Wanted to know if killing the boss more than once a week would earn me more threads, instead of waiting week after week.

Advice needed on ground targeting and accidently losing targets

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 02:04 AM PDT

Hi all, I'm a long time player of the game but took a big break and am now back in and loving it. Since being back I've noticed how much I lose my target because of ground targeting and camera control.

I need some advice as how to not lose target as its going to affect my dps. This mainly happens to me when I'm playing scourge as it's a lot of ground targeting. I use the rmb to control my camera so it's pretty much in constant use but I've noticed that rmb can also click on things so if I swing my camera and accidently land on an npc or player then I'll lose my main target.

Sounds like such a nub question but it's really annoying!

    Any advice?

Noob asking: why don't i see plaguedoctor gear for meta builds? what can i learn from this?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 12:54 AM PDT

Intuitively i feel like this wouldn't be an unusable support set in competition with say, harrier that also has healing and concentration as minor stats? Then again i suppose vitality is mostly wasted powerbudget as it doesn't really help you do much than facetank better unless you are a guardian or ranger and choosing the vitality convertion traits. If we're talking sheer ease of acquiring the gear i guess i can see bonus points for harrier on that front too. Not to mention the multiplicative effects of fury and crit generally on raw power that conditions don't have an equivalent boon for. Is it simply unoptimal for any particular role, trying to cover too much ground at once?

Hey everyone, I've been on and off with gw2 since release but since covid I've been playing a lot again haha But I'm noticing fractals and world bosses extremely hard to dodge key mechanics due to higher ping, is there anyway around this for players in the Oceania region? I'm from Australia
