[EU] - Caudecus Manor Live Dungeon Tutorial for Newbies - Start at 15:00 CEST (UTC+2)

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 01:42 AM PDT

    Hello everyone

Today at 15:00 CEST (UTC +2), I am going to clear all three explorable dungeon paths of Caudecus Manor, Queensdale. And while doing so, I'm making a special offer to new players on the European servers:

What are we going to do:

    • We will clear all 3 explorable paths from Caudecus Manor within about 45 minutes (time varies based on experience of the group). This rewards you with at least 1 gold 83 silver, a lot of unnecessary gear, dungeon tokens, as well as more than two full level ups. This is an excellent opportunity to level your character.

    • I explain strategies specific to this dungeon commonly used by people who attempt to complete it as efficiently as possible.

    • I explain generally useful strategies and concepts new players aren't taught by the game: Combo fields, stacking, Line of Sight, boons, reflects, aggro, stealthing, breakbars and more.

    • Because of the information provided, we will take some time for the first path, the second and third path will be rather quick (sub 10 minutes each) afterwards.

    You are required to:

    • Have a positive attitude towards the game and towards other players. We are here to have fun on a Sunday afternoon in quarantine. Social distancing means physical distancing, not social distancing.

    • Play a character that is at least level 40. The dungeon paths are made for players at level 45. If you are any lower than level 40, you will not enjoy your time in the dungeon.

    • A decent understanding of written English, be willing to read and answer my questions in chat, and don't be shy to ask questions yourself ("/p Hi I have a question" to type in party chat).

    • Be able and willing to follow orders and explanations. If you are not there to follow the tutorial, you don't need the tutorial. We are not going to play the dungeon the way it was meant to be played, we are going to use strategies to avoid fights and save a lot of time - just like an experienced group would!

    • There are no skill or experience requirements, and you don't have to own the game to participate - it is all F2P content. This is entirely aimed at new players, and is meant to serve as an entry point to improvement. Join in, have fun, and learn something.

    How can you participate:

    • Be on any of the European servers. I will be online from 14:00 CEST (UTC+2). Add me as a friend (REMagic.8937) and join my party ("/join REMagic.8937") or whisper me ("/w REMagic.8937 Hi! What's up?") (without the " ")

    • If at 15:00 CEST the party is not full, I am going to post on the Looking for Group (LFG) tool to fill the remaining spots. So make sure to be in time to join.

"I am not exactly a newbie, can I participate?"

Yes, of course! I would love to play this with Newbies, but being level 80 or even a veteran obviously won't exclude you! I require you to be patient with new players and accept that we take some more time to complete the paths - you would be twice as fast if you created your own group. Don't run ahead, don't trigger events while I am typing explanations - then you are more than welcome. And maybe, just maybe, there are some more advanced mechanics you didn't know about yet :)

    [dT] Discretize.eu big update

    Posted: 28 Mar 2020 08:58 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

We know the last post was years ago and we want to show what we have been working on nowadays.

Link to the website (might need ctrl + f5 to refresh)

    What is new

    • Made a new class rating system because the old one felt lackluster and misunderstood. The new ratings are ''Meta'', ''Offmeta'' and ''(recommended for) T4 only'' .
    • A new ''What Should I Play?'' article that helps people look at the classes from a very simple perspective and we hope this will clear up some confusions as to which classes are exactly meta and which are not.
    • A new ''CC Disctribution'' article that helps explaining what CC is and how to achieve breaking bosses.
    • All the other Guide pages were updated.
    • All the T4 guides were updated with skips and relevant class tips.
    • Our guild application page was updated to show our requirements for each class.
    • The gear optimizer was updated and now you can use pre-sets of meta builds.
    • Augments calculator was fixed (hopefully)

    Builds

    • We migrated the 100 and 99CM guides to the class pages and updated them with relevant information, hopefully more people will read these and get up to date with their class or understand their class more.
    • DH was removed from the "Meta" rating because it was never really part of the "Meta" composition in the way that people would usually think. It usually replaced Firebrand not the usual Weaver/Soulbeast DPS combo. Hopefully this clarifies things up.
    • Heal Firebrand with Bane signet
      • We really want everyone who plays Heal firebrand to look at the build so they understand that running Bane Signet is important for CC and party buffing. Many people only look at Snowcrows build and think that a raid build should be ran in fractals.
    • Why is heal firebrand not meta if I see it in PuGs?
      • This question can be answered very easily. Heal firebrand was never meta to begin with, but it is a very easy way to negate everything Challenge Modes are throwing at you, thus an easy way to complete them but never really learn them. We felt they should remain for T4 only since some instability combos are hitting harder there than Challenge Modes. We do not say you can't run it in CMs but if you really want to improve you shouldn't.
    • Removal of Staff Weaver, Deadeye, Chronomancer and Druid
      • They simply fell out of the roster by the continuing nerfs. They are still great in raids.

    Discord

    • We encourage everyone to join our discord and discuss builds, fractals, ask questions, use the public LFG (we join sometimes or look there for more ourselves) or just be around.

    Patreon

    • If you like what we are doing and want to support us to go ad free or just help keep the website up and running you can help on our patreon site.

    Lastly

    • It is CMs + T4 people, not CM's :)

Also would like to thank everyone who contributed!

EDIT: We forgot to update some of the build template codes, so please double check when you copy them, thanks and happy reading.

(My group) team composition and strategies for Strike Missions

    Posted: 28 Mar 2020 02:00 PM PDT

    Hi GW2Reddit,

I'm making this little guide to show how my raid group is doing all Strike Missions.

Please take in count that we are an average group, and these compositions might or might not work for everyone, I'm just trying to share our experience and help other groups.

What has worked for us in case you don't really want to pug people with no experience, it to do the runs in the order I'm posting below (I usually ask for any raid KP), that way you start with the most difficult one first and let you do the necessary arrangements the first pulls. But please don't be too elitist, I always encourage players to help inexperienced people.

    Boneskinner

    • 1 Chrono Boon
    • 1 Healing Druid (spirits/might)
    • 1 Healing Scourge (barriers/pull downed allies)
    • 1 Healbrand (quickness)
    • 1 Renegade (alacrity)
    • 1 Banner Warrior
    • 4 DPS: I recommend running condi scourge here for barriers, but any DPS should work (I prefer condi over power here). Scourges can bring either Spectral Grasp to pull Wisps, Epidemic to kill Wisps after pulls and/or Corrosive Poison Cloud to mitigate projectiles if your squad is receiving a lot of damage.

If you are struggling with keeping everyone alive you can bring 1 extra healer (another scourge or a tempest for example).

Strategy: Stack ALWAYS with the tag, the tighter the better. Dodge clockwise, be very careful with the AOE attack because it can insta down you. Avoid the cone attack (just walk aside, you don't have to dodge). When the Boneskinner stands on two feet, you need to insta CC it, the longer the break bar lasts, the more Wisps it invokes. After the CC everyone should help to pull mobs. If the Boneskinner moves to destroy a torch, or jumps and pulls everyone to the middle, you have to get out of the middle or you will take a lot of damage when the Boneskinner comes back.

    Whisper of Jormag

    • 1 Chrono Boon
    • 1 Healing Druid (spirits/might)
    • 1 Healbrand (quickness)
    • 1 Renegade (alacrity)
    • 1 Banner Warrior
    • 5 DPS: I recommend running condi DPS here especially for the last phase, make sure you have something with range.

If you are struggling with keeping everyone alive you can bring 1 extra healer (a scourge to pull downed allies or a tempest for example).

Strategy: The first phase (100% to 75%) is very simple, just stay very tight with the commander. Periodically, the boss will do an attack that will mark all players with a big red area, when this happens you have to spread ASAP and dodge the attack. If this area overlaps with other player's at the moment of the "explosion" the damage will increase so ve very careful. After 75%, 3 random players will periodically get chains. The chains do a LOT of damage. If you have a chain, step back from the group and STAY STILL or you will kill your party, if a downed allied is touching your chain, step left or right quickly to avoid killing it. Also, avoid standing on the boss' hitbox or chains will kill you. In the last phase (25% - 0%) the boss does an attack that will send orbs from its hitbox to the edge of the platform, you need to spread when you see this attack and avoid the orbs, if you touch one, it will explode and deal a lot of damage, this can also instakill you if you get hit by multiple explosions.

Voice of the Fallen and Claw of the Fallen

    • 1 Chrono Boon
    • 1 Healing Druid (spirits/might)
    • 1 DPS Firebrand (quickness)
    • 1 Renegade (alacrity)
    • 1 Banner Warrior
    • 5 DPS: Either condi or power DPS is fine here.

If you are struggling with keeping everyone alive you can bring 1 extra healer (a scourge to pull downed allies or a tempest for example).

Strategy: Stack with tag all the time. Focus the Voice (bow) until 25%, then focus the Claw (hammer), you need to kill them both almost at the same time or the other will enrage and deal TONS of damage. Bring some projectile reflect/destruction for arrows. This is a quite easy fight.

    Fraenir of Jormag

    • 1 Chrono Boon
    • 1 Healing Druid (spirits/might)
    • 1 DPS Firebrand (quickness)
    • 1 Renegade (alacrity)
    • 1 Banner Warrior
    • 5 DPS: Either condi or power DPS is fine here.

If you are struggling with keeping everyone alive you can bring 1 extra healer (a scourge to pull downed allies or a tempest).

Strategy: Stack always in the middle, if the boss moves, it will go back to the middle in a few seconds so don't move. When the boss jumps, the next attack is usually an expansive wave, just dodge or jump it. The next phase ( at 75%, when a big guy comes out) just stack in the back and CC when the CC bar appears. At 70% it will become invulnerable but a couple of seconds, just auto-attack the next 10 or 15 seconds until you can damage it again. When you kill the big guys, the boss will come back again doing the expansive waves attack first. And that's it I think, this is also a very easy fight.

    Shiverpeaks Pass

    • 1 Chrono Boon
    • 1 Condi Druid (spirits/might)
    • 1 DPS Firebrand (quickness)
    • 1 Renegade (alacrity)
    • 1 Banner Warrior
    • 5 DPS: Either condi or power DPS is fine here.

If you are struggling with keeping everyone alive change the Condi Druid for a Healing Druid. Or just bring whatever you want, you will kill it on gold reward anyway (unless nobody does any damage of course).

    Strategy: >Stack >DPS >Profit.

If you have any questions or suggestions please let me know in the comments. :) And please excuse my broken English.

Special thanks to the people of Unknown Static Raiders [USR] for letting me command Strike Missions.

Bonus Weekly Map Recap - Blast From the Past! - Wayfarer Foothills

    Posted: 28 Mar 2020 09:13 AM PDT

Welcome to the Weekly Map Recap, a series where we'll look back at one map in the game each week. We'll review with a critical eye at how each map represents its theme, proves faithful to its lore, and implements its design. We'll see how effective its gameplay is, whether the art holds up, and the forecast for the map's long term retention. With 51 maps to date, it'll be quite the journey!

This week is a special bonus article. Originally posted several months ago and removed, this is the review for Wayfarer Foothills in full form. Next week we'll resume our normal schedule.

Links to the previous entries in a reply at the bottom!

    3 - Wayfarer Foothills - 1-15

The starter map for norn players, Wayfarer Foothills was the third of the early starter maps revealed during Guild Wars 2's original press tours in 2012. I have fond memories of watching attendees at early press conferences discover the game on this map.

    Theme - 5/10

If the norn - and the Shiverpeaks - have a strong theme, it's the interaction between isolation and community. The norn are consistently represented in terms of their relationship with not only the natural world around them, but also their relationships with each other. It's no accident that the major norn character in the living story is the one with a familial relationship as their core on-screen plotline. The norn have a tension at the heart of their race in their desire to be independent and 'legendary', and their need for both the defense of their communities and for strong bonds of kinship - represented most strongly at moots.

So any map which is the starter map for that race should show that tension, and put it in context. The norn try to be alone and love to be together, and the Shiverpeaks are both the most foreboding natural landscape in the game as well as the most beautiful. They are literally at the heart of the Tyrian map, connecting all the other races - and are represented multiple times as 'protectors' - of knowledge and civilization. Protecting both the Durmand Priory and the Jotun and Dwarves from the last Elder Dragon rising, the Shiverpeaks are dangerous but they are also a refuge.

In general, this seems to be represented effectively. I would have liked a better representation of a moot - but the Great Hunt in the tutorial tries to perform that role. The lower part of the map shows the norn cradled by the mountains around them, and the north part shows them challenged by their environment. The Shiverpeaks range from lovely snow-forests to the icy crags of an Icebrood fortress. Beyond the immediate vicinity of Hoelbrak, there are few purely norn settlements - and what are there are formed around a hearth and a lodge, as it should be.

I will note that the theme of the norn and the Shiverpeaks is one of those themes that I find fairly played out in lots of different fantasy games - the vikings in the mountains. There is little here to avoid that impression or play against expectations. They are shapeshifting vikings, and they do shapeshifting viking things - though actually precious little of the shapeshifting, which seems a shame.

    Lore - 4/10

Wayfarer Foothills does not correspond to any GW1 maps, and in that sense it is free of the burden of representation. The lore that is represented is therefore able to focus fully on who the norn are as a people - what their values and culture are - and who the other denizens of the Shiverpeaks are.

We are unavoidably introduced to the Spirits of the Wild and their relationship to the norn in the first parts of the map - and even in the nearby jumping puzzle. We're shown the relationship between norn and alcohol, the arts, and their neighbors. As in many of the other starting maps we're introduced to the Lionguard here as well - and even a little bit to the charr and their relationship with the norn - which in the Movement of the World and early conceptions of the game's world was a complex relationship.

Perhaps most interesting are the introduction of the jotun - for me the most fascinating of the six races who stood last against the elder dragons. For the frustratingly little that we get to know about them, what's there is engaging and represented well as an introduction in this map. Nice nods are also made to Jora from Eye of the North.

    Design - 8/10

The aforementioned 'cradle' structure is the crux of this maps design. The southern end forms a natural bowl which is one of the most explicit 'starter areas' in one of these early maps - its palette and weather are strongly separated from the rest of the map. Interestingly, three out of the five starter maps are vertically oriented, south to north, with the capital city being always in the lower left. An odd coincidence, but it is interesting to examine the way that these different maps deal with the orientation.

Wayfarer Foothills has essentially two lanes moving south to north. The first, along the west side of the map, leads up out of the bowl through the Dolyak Pass, and into the nearby forest. It curves up to the Haven and then curves out towards Snowden Drifts. The second lane, along the east, goes under the river on the eastern side, into the dredge cave, and then along the Frozen Maw and the ice lake towards Diessa Plateau. Later living world content added a large village entrance and thermal vents up this way. Interestingly, this map is the only starter map connected to a level 80 map directly, as well as connected to not just one but two level-appropriate follow-up maps. In terms of exploration options, that puts it a norn's head and shoulders taller than the rest.

The verticality here is actually fairly well represented. The low bowl of the starter area in the south serves to emphasize the height of the mountains next to it, and the entire map seems to slope gently up as you move northward. Lots of caves - even ice caves! - serve to highlight this. Now, it's nowhere near what's present in some of the other Shiverpeaks maps, but certainly more than, say, Snowden Drifts.

    Gameplay 8/10

For the most dully voice-acted race, the norn sure seem to have a good time. The events and hearts of Wayfarer Foothills are good fun - and in some ways more fun on average than the previous two maps we've covered, even considering that there are far less of the events than in those maps. The starting renown regions involve lots of novel tasks and transformations - and later hearts involving herding dolyaks, tossing kegs, trading artifacts, and pleasing rabbits are all at least enjoyable on the first time through.

The events, in addition, make some for at least novel gameplay. Although transformations can sometimes be finicky, events appropriately include some animal transformations. Answering riddles, stealing food, building statues, hunting jackalopes, and building snowmen are some of the more standout events that can be found across the map. In addition, Wayfarer Foothills houses not only one World Boss, but also one of the more intense non-World boss meta events in a starter map at the Svanir ice fortress.

    Art - 6/10

This map looks alright. The Shiverpeaks have always been one of the best-designed regions visually, and the GW2 engine renders those peaks really well. The jotun ruins, hotsprings, and svanir fortress are also standouts - as well as the visual design for the Maw boss. In addition, the Spirit statues at the entrance to Hoelbrak are one of those images often cited by norn players as why they love the experience on this map.

That being said, snow means lots of relatively flat texture and open spaces. Where there is strong verticality, this isn't a problem - but as the game gets on in age, the open areas become less and less attractive. The sound design helps here, because there is something immensely satisfying about the crunch of snow underfoot, but the flat plains of white still don't look their very best.

The norn lodges have in general excellent design, and feel both lived in and practical. They're often filled with props and people indicating life, and are some of my favorite structures in the game.

    Long Term Retention - 7/10

With a World Boss and as a starter map, Wayfarer Foothills is doing okay. It had a heyday during Living World season 1 - when multiple months of events happened on this map during the Flame and Frost chapters. While it may never see those crowds again, Wayfarer does alright for itself - especially since norn are a fairly popular race (again, despite the travesty that is the voice acting in their personal story).

    Overall - 6/10

In the end, I would not say that this map is my most or least favorite of the starter maps. It has some strong variety and design in both its environment and gameplay, and I have fond memories from its liveliness in Season 1. I can't say that there are very many reasons to return, however, especially if I have to look at the increasingly unfortunate flat snow textures.

    -----------------------------

That's it for today! Next week is wide open! What map would you like to see? My default will be to do them in the order that they appear in the wiki article.

What do you think of today's map? Any fond memories, or strong complaints? How well do you think this map stands up in comparison to all the others?

After reporting latency and packet loss here is reply from anet support

    Posted: 28 Mar 2020 09:30 PM PDT

10 days ago I reported to anet support that there is latency and packet loss in the path from my computer to the server. I even pointed out that packet loss occurs between telia.net and anet AWS servers. After exchanging 7 emails which everytime I mentioned there about packet loss and where it happens with screenshots and they keep asking me to send logs from many different pingpath application, today they come out with this answer:

    Hello,

Thank you very much for the information as this does appear to show the issue you are having.

According to this report, your connection is suffering from packet loss. If you are not familiar with this term, it simply means the loss of data while in transit from point A (your computer) to point B (our servers). What this means is that either not enough information was received by our servers, the information that was received was corrupted, or it wasn't sent at all.

2 paragraph of bla bla bla bla ....

Because the loss of data is happening prior to it reaching our game servers, you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider for assistance. I would highly recommend sending them these results so they can visually see the issue you are suffering from.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any additional issues, questions or concerns.

Regards, XXXX Guild Wars 2 Support Team http://help.guildwars2.com/

Problem is telia.net is not my ISP, it is the ISP that provides service directly to AWS and it is not even in my country.

A while back I had similar issue with WoW, and guess what, they get my report and forward it to their ISP and issue was fixed in no time. is anet expecting me (their customer) to directly get in touch with someone that not even indirectly provide any service to me?
