Waited Years for this Moment: Scarlet Briar Ruins Her Own Plans in the Tower of Nightmares

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 07:40 AM PDT

Credit where it's due: The story instance was AMAZING.

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 09:24 PM PDT

Well, title sums it all. Spoilers ahead.

TL;DR: I feel the story instance was really amazing, both story and mechanic-wise. A huge jump from the previous iteration.

EDIT: Here I'm talking specifically of Darkrime Delves. I agree the strike part is somewhat slow-paced, and the revelation didn't impact the Commander as much as I personally was.

    Story

First, the big drop: Almorra's death. Man, was it powerful. ANet did send her a proper send-off. While I was expecting this because of one of the last ANet statements, I didn't expect to be this well-done. Having her fight us really made us feel she was a proper warrior.

Character-wise, I feel that they were really well-developed. Ryland doesn't seem to be completely controlled by Bangar, giving us hope of redemption. He seems more level-headed, and if I may say, humane, giving Almorra a proper burial. Meanwhile, Bangar becomes a fully-fledged major villain now, with the usual "for the Greater Good™" reasoning. Personally, it didn't feel too unnatural and forced, because of the build-up until the climax. And Ajax being their offspring really tied up some ends there between Almorra and Bangar (and probably the Commander, since the Vigil storyline leads you to kill Ajax under Almorra's orders).

Also, the sound. The music added a bit of tension in the beginning, since we were exploring an Icebrood-filled dwarven ruin. But as it approaches the climax, the music does catch up with the action. And I feel the voice acting this time was quite good. It conveyed the manipulative nature of Bangar and how he is when angered. And it also showed why Almorra was a true charr and leader of the Vigil.

    Mechanics

I really liked how they went with it. As said before, you play as Ryland, but you can use your profession skills instead of a forced set. Sure, Ryland's skills are needed to progress and are generally more effective, but you don't have to fight using them. It helped easing the novelty of controlling Ryland, so that it didn't feel forced.

Also, breakbars play a huge part here. While it could have more explanation, it conveyed that breaking that blue bar in one way or another was important. The enemies, from the common ones until the story boss, all were much easier to kill after breaking it. I look forward to more designs like that, especially the breakbar tutorial (if it's ever done).

And while we're at it: Almorra's last stand was a great fight. Probably not raid or CM level, but still gave me much more trouble than usual. Don't take that as criticism, it's actually a praise. Please Anet, don't nerf this fight, it was quite fun and challenging. Her attack patterns makes you use stunbreaks and/or heals strategically, and the breakbars were quite well-done. Last time I had this feeling was maybe Balthazar.

Lastly, the map. Darkrime Delves is huge for a story instance. It has hidden trasure and bosses (which again added to that breakbar focus). I loved exploring it.

I guess this sums it all. Personally, I think this episode was much better than the previous two. I hope to see more story content of this quality in the future (which is indeed looking brighter now for me).

Info about the new Runic Cape (Strike While the Crystal is Hot achievement)

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 12:40 AM PDT

Hey, I've managed to unlock the achievement to get the new runic cape [&CiEkAAA=]. Here's how it works:

    1. Complete any of the "Footsteps" achievement
    2. Buy a "Prototype Harmonizing Mist Loom" From Crystallographer Smoxxi (250 quartz crystals, 50 amalgamated gemstones, 1 charged quartz crystal, 99 995 karma)
    3. Conplete strike missions to earn Misty Cape Scraps (I earned one scrap by doing the grothmar strike with 2 bonus chests. According to the achievement you can earn more from the daily priory strike and the weekly chest)

    Human Female Idles?

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 04:39 AM PDT

As we see here https://old.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/fk8767/thank_you_for_giving_my_asura_her_smile_back/?ref=share&ref_source=link Asura's got a bug resolved quickly where there expression changed from a smile to a scowl when sitting.

If something like this gets fixed, can we finally get those human female idles back in the game as stated here: https://old.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4spdd5/human_female_idle_animations/

Dev's said it was a bug, Gaile Gray even said all it would take is someone to "flick the switch" and they would be re-enabled, but its been 4 years.

I just want a final answer to this. Can we get them back or not? I won't even be upset if we aren't getting them back, but just want to close the book on this issue.

With the Visions of the past system, There is a complete possibility to bring back A very fun and cooperative Marionette and Battle for Lions arch back.

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 03:54 AM PDT

I Was quite surprised when I played the first Visions of the past and noticed it had a Public and Squad locked options, and then I immediately noticed that this is the perfect opportunity to bring back the (IMO) best fights in gw2. Marionette and Battle for Lions arch.

I always thought it would be hard to reimplement these two due to the open world factor they had, but Forged in steel is the perfect example of how this can work on a closed instance.

Please, I beg, make those two instances replayable on the scrying pool.

If Bangar calls the flamesaw, "A Charr-made Sohothin! Better than the real thing.", ever again, I'm gonna break his kneecaps in the next chapter.

(Spoiler?? its 6 years old) LS1 vs Saga

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 07:57 AM PDT

Just finnish all four LS1 missions. And ...well ... GW2 move a looooong way forward. These missions were most boring and lame "new" content I played in GW2 in years. Dont take it wrong -I like they are bringing it back and that new people can see it (even if I am with WP and others that implementation is just bad), but you can really see how far this game went in all these years.

Any new LS/Saga we get since HoT is hundread time better then LS1. And each new getting better.

So if nothing else, thanks Anet for showing us how much better you get.

Play Icebrood Saga to unlock Season 1 ...

Can I just point out we got our first non-combat public map since release?

    Posted: 18 Mar 2020 04:40 AM PDT

With the exception of LA and the racial towns (and HotM I guess), Eye of the North is the only non-combat map we've got. It's quite possibly our first "outpost". And I think that's super neat

    Edit: and the aerodrome/clarification

Credit where it's due: Runic armor acquisition

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 11:03 AM PDT

After the mess that was Raven Armor to obtain (pure RNG for two of its part, nothing else), I want to take the time to appreciate how Runic armor was handled.

Right now, for the Runic set, you can either purchase the pieces directly with gold + karma at a vendor, fixed price, no TP involved...

Or farm Prophet Crystals to purchase specific tokens for specific pieces (chest, gloves, etc.), which is basically how dungeon rewards were basically handled. Prophet Crystals are currently (afaik) awarded through Strikes and doing Visions of the past instances. Both probably capped daily but still.

On top of that, the armor sets are quite cool looking, with three different weights.

This is a step up to how LS5E2 was handled with rewards.

    Thank you.

EotN looks good so far but why are the crafting stations so ugly, small and don't fit to the theme of the hall at all? How do you even craft on Holograms? The Armor Smith doesn't even have an oven to heat metal.

Big thank you to everyone who posted a bug report, I never got a comment back from Anet or an apology about how rude, un-supportive and nasty their moderator was.

As someone who is going through a tough time seeing how much support this very little thing got really made my day and this has certainly made me very happy.

Thank you again Guild Wars 2 community!

Repair Anvil in Eye of the North

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 05:30 PM PDT

Could ArenaNet add a repair anvil or merchant to the new hub? I realize after upgrading all stations that there isn't a repair place to go to.

Seeing the EoTN filled with players again since the peak GW1 days...

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 02:18 PM PDT

Honestly tears just filled my eyes. All the memories of GW1 came flooding back, when EoTN in GW1 was filled to the brim with players. Seeing it again in GW2 with actual players in it makes me so happy. So much nostalgia i'm literally crying.
