Deaf player here - the regression in ArenaNet's trailers is saddeding - they no longer add subtitles

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 09:16 AM PST

    https://old.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/5rc4oc/as_a_deafhearing_impaired_player_i_would/

I was pretty grateful when ArenaNet finally started adding subtitles to their trailer videos after a few reddit posts I made. Now I noticed they have stopped doing this around the Icebrood Saga - no subtitles for the announcement, the trailer or anything. Same goes for Visions of the Past new trailer, but at least they enabled the autogenerated subtitles here, which helps a little bit. Would it be possible for them to add the official subs into the video, since they are very likely already written in the script?

    About "Expansion Like Features"...

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 10:52 AM PST

So I, like most of you, have a vague recollection of this quote occurring as well. But in discussing the context and specific wording of it with some guildmates over the past weeks, we were completely unable to track down the source of this claim.

I could have sworn something like this was said in the Icebrood Saga live announcement, but I rewatched that whole video and didn't catch it. Someone also wrote up a really detailed transcript of the event on the wiki, and I couldn't find it there, either.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Icebrood_Saga_announcement

I also combed through some interviews with MMO news sites, as well as blog posts on the GW2 site, but still no luck.

And then we found it in a single forum thread from Mike Z in January 2019.

    https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/comment/793355#Comment_793355

Regarding moving from Season 4 to Season 5, we announced this in the 6th Anniversary Celebration Video. We talked about wanting to release expansion level stories and features over the next couple years. Our goal is to create powerful moments like the final instance of this episode that are a culmination of multiple departments and raise the bar for what it means to be a Guild Wars 2 experience.

Interestingly, while Mike Z. does point to the 6th Anniversary video, I was not able to find mention of "expansion" features in that video directly.

Is this really what people are going off of when quoting this "promise" from the devs? I get it's straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak, but it's a single forum post that was made long before Icebrood Saga was even announced; Before we defeated Kralkatorrik and got Skyscales; Before the Grothmar Valley Prologue, Strike missions, capes, countless balance updates, and more - things that could very well have been included in Mike Z's definition and timeline of "expansion" features over "the next couple years.."

It made no direct promises that we'd see "expansion level stories and features" in the coming weeks or months, or even when the new season finally launched - just over the next couple of years. It's only been a single year (and a couple months) since this post was made, so...?

Did I miss something? Is this really the quote we're using to define all of our expectations for Icebrood Saga, or did I miss some other place where this was promised? Why did this single quote come to define all of our expectations, hype, and disappointment for the last few months, even though it was made long before "Season 5" or, as we know it now, the Icebrood Saga?

If this quote had come from a trailer or major news release, I would be far more understanding of how much this phrase gets thrown around and referenced, but this is essentially the equivalent of a "blue post" on the Blizzard forums - yes, it comes from the devs, but it's far from an official announcement or press release regarding a specific upcoming release.

EDIT: Just linking a few more sources where I was unable to find mention of "expansion" features.

I did track down this Redbull article with the following quote:

And so, onto the future. With Season 4 reaching its conclusion and the promise of a huge finale for players, what can be expected from Season 5? Well, there's the promise of even more significant content, including things that would usually be saved for an expansion, as well as another "amazing story" that will immediately kick off right from the conclusion of Season 4 and take them on a ride.

But there is no direct source here - this is from the Redbull article and not attributed directly to ArenaNet or any developers posts. And, again, this was in 2018 - prior to the finale, Skyscale, IBS announcement, and more.

Since we are getting Strike Mission hubs, can we also get a Dungeon Hub?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 11:00 AM PST

The main reason why clearing dungeons often feels like a chore is because you have to wait around for random events to start and then you need an additional 10 minutes to complete said event.

Want to do a quick CoF P1 before going out? Too bad, entrance is contested and you have to check the wiki where to start the first chain event.

Why is this not a thing already?

Missed Connection: WvW Friend, Where Are you?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:32 AM PST

Time/Place: Reset night, Feb 28. EBG.

You: on SoS or CD (I am terrible and didn't pay attention to which one). Hanging by the sentry near Wildcreek Run.

Me: Out for a scout while my team is at Wildcreek Run gates. On DB(GoM).

I see you, on your warclaw. You are shaking your warclaw head and jumping. I proceed to shake my warclaw head back at you. We spend what feels like hours (but really it was maybe 2-3 minutes). I am smiling and laughing to myself, telling my guildies the amazing time I am having. And then a pug from my server runs to attack you. I tell them "no, that's my friend", but they don't care. You run off before I could get your game is to friend you.

If you are out there, just know that interaction has been a highlight of my WvW career.

I own GW2 and HoT - is any of the paid PoF content accessible before you reach level 80 / before finishing HoT content?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 08:04 AM PST

TSIA mostly - I bought GW2 back in the day before core game was f2p, and later got HoT when it was on sale, but real life obligations were in the way and never slowed down until recently (plus, uh, the relationship I was in that made me get into the game ended. Fs in chat!). I've never had a character above level 15, and I've had three of them as I kept going on creative streaks. I'm looking at getting into the game properly in the near future.

What I want to know is, does any of the Path of Fire content, like mounts or the subclasses (can't remember their name) 'kick in' before finishing HoT, or 'kick in' once I've hit level 80 without even touching HoT? I mean, Heart of Thorns gave everyone who had it access to Revenant, even if they were still pottering about in starter zones - is Path of Fire exclusively for people who've hit 80?

Some thoughts and a proposal - after patch - from a DH LB lover

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 07:36 AM PST

The major complain that i read in reddit is that the elite's weapon, longbow, is only viable in some contents, because previous nerfs, long cooldowns, Big Game Hunter being so much better than the others, etc, etc.

In the last patch, Anet did a great work balancing everything (ok, some thing might have been over, but let's give them time), and they touched DH's longbow. See... with the new patch DH now is in a really good spot to become well rounded, balanced and... perfect! And i'm not talking only because i main one and i want it to be the best class (i don't want, really).

Deflecting shot now has the knock back without the need of Heavy Light. IMO this fits so much in the theme, because you can use longbow as a spare weapon and GS (as all guardians seems to love) as the main one. You don't need to sacrifice damage (Big Game Hunter) to have your extra knock back.

The other change that i found amazing, was the atualization in Heavy Light, that now adds bonus damage when you disable the enemy, they added a new fucking whole idea of dmg dealer! You first disable someone and than you take advantage of that! THAT is what i would expect from someone who intends to hunt dragons! And guess what: LONGBOW DOES THAT! DISABLE!

And now we can disable AND damage the enemies!

The only thing that makes me say "almost viable" (i use it for PVE, anyway), would be (mainly) the long LB 5 CD.

But what if Heavy Light would also reduce LB CDs by, let's say, 20%?

I mean, LB 3 and 4 have kind of long cooldowns too. With a 20% CD reduction, the longbow would be viable in all content! Obviously True Shot CD would need to be increased to maintain the 4s CD in PVE (8s in PVP) when traited. That would mean that we would have LB 2, 3 , 4 and 5 with 5s, 10s, 15s and 40s respectively, but, when traited, they would be 4s, 8s, 12s and 32s, respectively.

With that proposal, we would have "direct" damage dealers DH, traited with Big Game Hunter and using Great Swords, Scepter or Sword/Focus, etc...

And CC + damage dealers, traited with Heavy Light, using Longbows! I don't think that would be overpowered becaus LB3 and LB5 disables are not THAT easy to land, so would be a nice way to bring DH LB to the light again.

What do you guys think? :D

    Druid or Soulbeast for fractals?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2020 07:36 AM PST

I'm a returning player and was just wondering if druids are a solid addition to a fractal group? Really like the support role and particularly druid but I only read about them being used for raids?

Also regardless of the answer to this, what is the best website to look at builds? Metabattle? Snowcrows? Any help would be greatly appreciated there is a lot I seem to have missed lol

With the return of LW S1 content...

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 11:05 AM PST

...please give us finally Spinal Blade Gliders.

This is a long requested glider skin and would also be a perfect opportunity to introduce ingame unlockable glider skins.

We now have a unlockable mount skin, so why not continue with this trend. Visions will give us a 2nd unlockable cape. So there is maybe some hope for gliders, too. And the spinal blade ones would be great start.

Edit: yes I am aware legendary gliders exist
