From a casual player to Anet

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 01:16 PM PST

    Hello everyone!

I play this game since 2013 and it's been my most played MMO to this date! I believe like many of you, I came from a world of Warcraft background, who wanted a change at that time made a transition to Guild Wars 2.

In real life I have a daily job where I work from Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 15:00 AM sometimes in 24 h shifts. When I come home after the usual stuffs I login each evening to relax playing guild wars 2 or working towards something in the game be it legendary, collections or world vs world, but by far my most favorite thing to do are fractals, CMs included.

It looks like I am the person Anet is trying to cather, but as a casual player I see the importance of having a hardcore community so having more raids released as a steady pace is essential! Like it or not these groups are what advertises your product. People believe raids are hard because you are bad at explaining the combat and providing a training ground is essential.

Strike missions are not well suited, for now at least, to help party oriented players to make the transition to raids. For fractals you need agony resistance to stay alive and it kinda is a time investment, but this does not apply to dungeons! You had something good when you design the last dungeon you made, Aertherpath in TA, you had raid like events and mechanics, yes there is some bad design here and there but overall it feels like what raids are to some extent! Don't try to reinvent the weel where it doesn't make sense and for me anyway strike missions are a waste of resources and time! Revive dungeons these are the best place to start!

I am making my transition to raids but due to my limited time will be slow! Don't listen to the masses it a good thing to have a portion of the content hard to experience as long as the mechanics are fare, which I hear it is from my raider friends. Release more raids in the future at a pace close to HoT era!

I am looking forward to the next fractal and I hope the next CM will be as good or better than the existing ones!

Best regards, from an average casual player

Coriolis Plaza: A better alternative to Teleport Totems?

Coriolis Plaza: A better alternative to Teleport Totems?

    Hey there!
I'm genially annoyed by the inventory space and pushing around and organization of different books on different characters and also that you have to pay for them and then I found this old old design or better refound it.

Located in old Lions Arch it was a place that never got finished and obv today that's the new place for all the Asura portals.
But actually what if we'd have gotten a portal for the new living world areas and not a teleport totem?

I'd definitely have preferred that but what about you?

    Just wanted to say something

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 07:29 AM PST

Last I played this game was 3-4 years ago where I sunk 3500+ hours into the game, failed all my finals and sucked at life basically. I haven't sat down to seriously play a computer game since then and have since recovered.

Today I suddenly remembered the hours I spent in gw2, in dungeons, pvp, fractals, raids, expansion events etc fooling around. Making friends, crafting, hanging out in the guild hall making stupid pvp arenas. And although it was one of the most regrettable moments of my life, it was also one of the most fun and memory filled ones.

As all gw2 players, I had a love hate relationship with the game. And although I no longer have the craving nor the patience to sit down to seriously play computer games, I will always remember gw2 as more than a game, I truly felt like I was there in a different world. No other mmo I played could compare.

I just wanted to say, thanks for making the best game I have ever played. It truly brought me so much joy that until now I still think about it from time to time.

    Building for Strikes?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 05:51 PM PST

I'm a bit confused on how to build for Strike content given its somewhat a new category. Do I use the raid or fractal settings from Metabattle as a base to understand how to better contribute? What's even the target DPS for most of these anyway? Been playing the game for about a year and am currently pulling a peak of 11k DPS as a D/Wh Tempest (I know, I might as well be banned for DPS that low) and I just haven't a clue what to take in when it comes to killing Drakkar, for instance. Maybe with full permanent 25 might, spotter, banners, food etc. I might get 15k but that's about it.

    PvE class and specialization

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 12:43 AM PST

Hello everyone. My name is Tog and im a power banner warrior. Been playing for half a year now and got to fractals T3 and kinda burned there. Returned to PvE, made mesmer, firebrand, necro (that i boosted :( ), druid (love him for dungeons, really seems like i make a difference in noobish parties) and revenant.

What class and specializations do u prefer for your PvE or PvX?

Where do you get your builds? Snowcrows seems fine, but whats up with metabattle?? Builds at metabattle seem somehow outdated...? Where could i find viable PvE builds?

Which are your go to events for gold? Teq, auric, tangled? Casino blitz maybe? What are good gold making options for casual player?

Thank you all for your time.

    :)

Ways to increase raid participation without changing difficulty

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 02:30 PM PST

I am of the opinion that the reasons most people don't raid are social and time related. These are problems which include having to commit many hours to a single task in game and spend that time with a group of people they may or may not get along with. Additionally, the social aspect is what makes raiding so fun (if you get a good group or static) so ArenaNet should really focus on improving this.

I think that the number one reason people don't raid is because they don't have time to commit 2-4+ hours on a single day to raid and that raiding dies out soon after reset, when most people have cleared the content. There needs to be some incentive to continue to raid throughout the week if you want to attract a more casual audience. This way people could do 1 or 2 bosses a night if they only have limited playtime, but could still manage to clear a few wings over the week. As it stands, if you don't do a full clear on reset, you are unlikely to get it. This can also be solved by guilds which brings me on to my next point.

Pugging is often a toxic experience because people only want to clear the boss for the rewards in the quickest time and don't care about the people they do it with. This leads to ridiculous LI or KP requirements and people being kicked for underperforming. These things rarely, if ever, happen in a guild environment (or will be made clear on entering the guild). ArenaNet needs to provide systems to make joining guilds easier and incentive for people to raid with their guild, like guild missions. I think one of the greatest additions ArenaNet could make, which could also revive other aspects of the game, would be an in game guild finder/advertisement board which allows guilds to advertise their guild and players to apply to join them. These could be sorted by casual through to hardcore and into categories such as social, open-world, pvp, wvw and raiding/instance content.

I think that ArenaNet has a really good game and a really bad MMO on their hands, and by inproving the social systems and nudging players in the direction of guilds and interactive gameplay, they would see greater participation in all aspects of their great game.

    Account bound rewards

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 02:48 AM PST

So yesterday I had a Red celestial infusion dropped. Ay my memory servers (kinda) these account bound rewards are often sellable for some currency to a vendor. Fractal tonic for relics, mini from raids for magnetite shards and such. You can't sell the red celestial infusion as far as I can tell and that kinda bugs me.

Let me say that I hate the look of it. I think it is absolutely awful and I don't want it near any of my characters and I feel like this about most of the infusion as I enjoy more the subtle aura infusion like Aurilium gold rather then these flashy ones which completely change the look of your character.

So I have this extremely rare drop and it only thing I can do with it is... trash it? I looked into my inventory and I went "oh wow... clelestial infusion... that's worth a bit of gold"... then I read the description and found out it is the red one and then that I can't do anything with it. It went from "wow I have a really rare drop" to "I'm really underwhelmed by this" in a minute. If I missed something... that would be great, if ANet decides to make it sellable... that would be also great. But I think I'm just stuck with a paperweight.
