    Merch question

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 02:43 AM PST

I don't know wether or not I can post this here but I'll give it a shot.

My boyfriends birthday is comming up in April and he's a big Guild Wars 2 fan. Next to that he loves wearing merch. So I'm looking into giving him a Guild Wars 2 shirt.

Now the problem is that I can't get them were I'm from so I want to make one myself. But I don't know what to put on it (as I'm not very familiar with the game). So I was hoping you guys could give me some ideas :)

Bjora review now that its complete

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 11:29 AM PST

This will be a short post, as my intent is to shine some light on what I consider to be a problem with the new map.

So Bjora was known to be a 2 part map, and that had me excited. Last time we had that experience, with both Dry Top and SW, they turned out to be pretty good maps. Such is not the case with Bjora.

I think the map has good long term goals. 3 weapon collections, the yellow edition thats coming with Drakar and an armor set, plus the usual stuff is pretty good.

My main problem with the map is its overall quality and connection between the 2 parts. If you think about it, this release is just as if Anet had released 2 separate maps. To make matters worse, the 2 halves are totally different. The first half has something going on I guess, that culminates in a defense event while the 2nd half is about undermining Jormag and collecting energy to kill Drakar, or something like that.

I played the whole new story step without ever going back to the 1st half. In fact, it had no relevance what so ever to the story. The story itself, as far as we know, could've happened in a different map.

The map feel like 2 different maps .. Dry Top and Silver Wastes do not suffer from this issue, in fact the global meta those maps have is great to bring the whole map together. Not only that the 2nd half suffers from a bit of event repetition. The 2nd half is basically cutting wood and killing totems, plus some champions and the shrines which are the only exciting events (the eagle shrine is rage inducing but whatever). The first half faces the same issue to some degree.

Finally the story ain't getting longer. It was to be expected that, with less work, especially considering that they re-utilized a lot of assets and mechanics from the 1st half, that the story would have a little more going on. This release had a remarkably short story.

My take on this is that Anet has split resources and is now working on new stuff, like the visions of the past thing. According do them fractals are coming too and they've kept the pace somewhat regarding strike missions. However, this is not an excuse to have a map thats pretty much 2 maps in one, instead of being one map in 2 releases. I know this doesn't matter to many people, but having a good world with solid lore is kinda of important, and splitting maps between releases was supposed to help with that, but it didn't.

TL;DR: Despite splitting the map into 2 releases, it doesn't feel like the same map at all between the 2 releases. Its more like 2 different maps in the same map, as opposed to one map split into 2 releases. This results in the same release pattern from LS3 and LS4, which ends up not solving any issues that those type of releases had.

What does Path of Fire unlock exactly?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 03:08 AM PST

I'm thinking about jumping into the game as I've seen some cheap Path of Fire deals online, like 10$ which is 1/3 of the original price, but I'm wondering what does it unlock exactly? Does every PoF purchase unlock the previous expansion too and are there any other paywalls after that or is the whole game unlocked?

    WvW - Revenant guidance

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 04:54 PM PST

My 1st toon created was a Revenant - it sounded like a fun class to play, so, that's what I made. I've become rather fond of this particular toon, and my favorite game mode thus far, is WvW. I feel like I picked the least useful class (or one of them) in terms of playing this specific mode (I do fine in most PVE, so that's not really a concern).

I have a few other toons I play in WvW, a Reaper Necro (I'm also leveling up her Scourge tree), an Engi Holosmith, and a Warrior Berserker. Pretty sure my Holosmith is the most viable of all 4 toons in terms of being able to keep up w/ more meta classes - but I'm still really attached to my Revenant.

Essentially, I wanna "git gud" with my chosen class, and I'm having a bit of trouble doing so. I have both Renegade and Herald unlocked...have builds for each. For the Renegade, I'm using Shortbow and Mace/Axe. For Herald I'm using Hammer and Staff (Hammer Backline build).

I feel like overall the Renegade puts out more DPS and has the ability to keep some distance and hit farther away targets, but that it seems much squishier and doesn't have nearly as much utility. The Hammer Backline seems like it's decent for being more utilitarian in terms of giving boons and whatnot, but it's slow as heck when it comes to actually whackin' people and smooshin' 'em real good.

Anyone have any advice for which is the better route to go in WvW? Pros and cons of each? Best stats to chase for each? Am I using terrible weapons for either build? The Hammer Backline one I more or less copied from Metabattle, the other I believe I also got from Metabattle, but that it was a PVE build, and probably not optimal for WvW.

Tl;Dr - I'm trying to make a somewhat viable WvW Revenant and I needs halp! XD

EDIT: I should note, I'm not looking to keep up with ganky roamer types. More interested in zerg participation and keep assault/defense.

I would like to change my Yggdrasil into a Berserker stats one. Is it possible to throw it into the Mystic Forge like how you can change the stats of Crafted Ascended Weapons? Thank you.

[Discussion] Guilds in Guildwars & Advice

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 05:34 PM PST

I played GW2 a few years back and was in a bigger guild. We did WvW, PvP, dungeon runs, Fractals, Living World, Guild Missions - basically we played the game together. I have come back and noticed that people only join guilds that have the max level guild halls and that's it. I've seen a lot of smaller guilds trying to get people to join, to help the build a guild hall, to help the guild grow and people just ignore it. People are joining these "Join 5 guilds for 1 mega guild" I don't understand what enjoyment folks are getting by getting spoonfed. I joined one of these mega guilds and they didn't actually do anything together. Sure they had "discord" but nobody was actually on it chatting. I then joined a smaller guild that did everything and had fun, was just lower in numbers and struggled to get people to join.

TLDR Why do you think people only join mega guilds instead of smaller guilds? Also, what tips can you give folks in smaller guilds to get people interested in joining?
