    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 01:50 PM PST

    Hey! Long time no see!

I finally got some decent photos of my Spearmarshal armor cosplay and I'd like to share them with you! This cosplay took me about two years to finish, cost a lot of nerves, sweat and tears xD

    Here's some photos:

    And some derpy stage shots:

More photos and in-progress pics can be found on my FB: https://www.facebook.com/Vega.Art.Cosplay/

There's a nifty t-pose animation I made, since we took a lot of, you guess, t-pose pics!

Things I've had to accept recently:

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 04:06 PM PST

    • GW2 is not going to last forever and at some point the game has to end live development.
    • in game mount skins would be nice but also has the potential to put a big enough dent in the gem store skins to actually hurt Anet, so it will never happen unless the skin itself is underwhelming compared to expectations.
    • truthfully, this game has given me every experience i have ever wanted out of an mmo. My parents bought me and my sister WoW years and years ago but we could never play it because they didnt realize it was subscription based and (thankfully so i could have a life) were never going to pay 30 a month for me and my sis to get addicted to video games lol. so we stuck to ps2, xbox 360, and eventually she stopped having time for video games while i got into gw2 at launch because i only had to buy it once. however one experience i have been waiting so long to have is actually mass transporting a bunch of people like being able to pilot a ferry in WoW to take people to other places. I would LOVE to do that even just once in a story mission for the novelty of it.
    • if it was subscription based i would have NEVER tried it before core tyria went free to play. Buy-to-play, plus all the mechanics and physics and freedom of movement that we already had at launch, is what made me stick to this game. Anet felt like the renaissance-era Apple from when the ipods and first iphone were dominant, and GW2 felt like it had that level of quality, polish, innovation, and passion behind it.
    • Anet has had to sacrifice other parts of the game to streamline development and save their content cycle from imploding ever since HoT, not just recently. I used to ignore this because I was so sure there was a good reason but 5 years later we know all too well that there were never any good reasons, just reasons deemed unavoidable by the situations Anet has found themselves in over the years.

i may add to this list but right now its just thoughts ive had

    Suggestions to improve Celestial Challenge

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 11:44 PM PST

So I have been discussing with someone in discord and he has this brilliant idea about improving the game mode that will not only prevent afkers from leeching, but also makes it more challenging and more rewarding. Here's what he suggested:

    • The enemies should give out xp and have a chance to drop the token upon death.
    • Replace the event counter with a "currency" of some kind (I guess item or something) which can then be traded with a vendor to get tokens.
    • Makes the enemies harder to kill and events harder in general.
    • After all challenges are completed, there will be a new boss to spawn at the area to fight.
    • Depending on how much you did events, you will get a buff of some sort that makes it easier to fight the boss (may the stat boosts or something).

And that's it. A game mode that's actually rewarding, and prevents leechers from getting free golds.

    Returning GW2 player

    Posted: 21 Jan 2020 04:26 AM PST

    Hi all!
So I am returning GW2 player (played only core). I bought 2 new exspanions and OMG. Mounts, storys, new specializations, fractals...

It is all overwhelming but I managed to set up some golas and go step by step. What am I interested in is, if there is anywhere to grind/farm some mobs, rares, to get some gear or items that I can sell. I have few friends with which I can do it. And is it killing bounty monsters worth it?

How Side Stories Should Make a Comeback (pls)

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 11:11 AM PST

So Side Stories (previously named Current Events) were, I believe, at their peak during LS3. We had the rift story which ended abruptly, the sad anomaly story which ended with us subjecting ourselves to the questionable cleansing power of Krait Oil or the Shadowstone. Those were the two main ones, but they weren't even the only ones.

Point is, they've had some real bangers. We know they can do some impressive stuff with this system of releases.

Meanwhile, while we presently push ourselves toward our confrontation with Jormag, we're kind of putting the blinders on ourselves as to what is going on in the world back at home. This isn't a new issue, really, but I think now is high time to address it.

See, we've entered a point in the game where our "high tension" story is regularly interrupted by festivals. ANet really can't possibly argue that anything between story updates will distract from the tone. It's waaaaay too late for that.

My recommendation? Let the Side Stories format tie up some loose ends left from before. Let us visit the locations, people, and cultures we are supposed to be fighting for. Give us some reminder or reason to believe that there's actually still a Tyria worth fighting for. Because that concept feels really, severely hollow right now.

What could these Side Stories address?

    • How's the Pale Tree doing? She only got injured over two expansions ago and we really haven't heard anything substantial from her since.

    • How are the humans dealing with their uprooted faith? We know the gods are off doing something that might be a wild goose chase for all we know. We know Balthazar turned against us. We know Kralkatorrik tore apart some of the various afterlives in the Mists. What is even left for them to base their faith on?

    • The Order of Whispers and the Order of Shadows have a linked past. Do they ever attempt to mend that rift between them?

    • What about the Rift Stabilization device and our good friend Auris Weirdbringer?

    • What about the magical hallucinations and research into the Shadowstone and/or Krait Oil?

    • How has sylvari culture changed since HoT? What about the Awakened sylvari?

    • How has asura culture changed since... well, everything that has happened? We've uncovered tons of Zinn-related stuff and Taimi has rewritten the book on Elder Dragons and all other kinds of research topics. Certainly there has to be some following that is trying to process all these findings for the masses.

Unlike some of the major story arcs a lot of us are hungry for (bloodstones, the gods, ancient lore, etc), these story beats don't require a ton of major work to be done. They don't need new maps, new cutscenes, new meta events, any of that. They just need some planning, writing, and implementation, maybe a few lines of spoken dialogue and a touch of intrigue. Anything extra is just a plus.

ANet, people want to explore this world, but with every new release, it's like the world gets more and more narrow. Use the brilliant system of Side Stories to give us something to remind us of the world we fell in love with to begin with, and maybe touch on some plot threads that have been neglected for so long.

Not everything needs to be big to be worthwhile. It's the little things that make the game feel meaningful.

Which racial simpathy makes more sense as a Charr warrior? [RP]

    Posted: 21 Jan 2020 05:47 AM PST

I'm about to choose which race to help and I'm pretty torn about Grawls and Ogres, what do you think will fit a Charr more? Grawls comes from Ascalon too so that's something in common but I'm afraid they're too much into gods and religions to be interesting from a Charr perspective, Ogres on the other hand value strength and they're more structured but they're also a bit too close to their pets. Skritts are cool but they have nothing that could interest a proud and militaristic race IMHO.

    Weapon skins, I'm confused?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 09:07 PM PST

Sorry, brand new to the game. I have the expansions, really enjoying the game so far but I'm confused as to what skins are? What are they and how do you get them? Are they different to costumes that you buy for gems?

Again, apologies for the noob question.

[Cmaj] GW2 Quartet: King and Lionheart - Of Monsters and Men

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 11:28 AM PST

Game downloaded 2.1x it's size and won't finish.

    Posted: 21 Jan 2020 06:01 AM PST

I believe GW2 need more World Bosses on the Tyria Timer that can rotate in and out of the lineup

    Posted: 21 Jan 2020 01:10 AM PST

Tyria World Boss timer since its creation has been one of the more consistent large scale PvE objectives in the game in terms of population, popularity and replay value.

I honestly believe many people higher up in Arena Net understand why this is or even the importance of the World Boss Timer compared to other triggered events and things like Bounties.

I suggest adding brand new Meta World Bosses to the Tyrian World Boss Timer, and updating existing Tyrian Meta Bosses with new mechanic features. Need a few need Legendary World Bosses as well, because those tend to a little harder and require a bit more organization but still casual accepted.

Do anybody here object to this?

    Cannot finish updating the game

    Posted: 21 Jan 2020 12:11 AM PST

    EDIT: this worked... ty! https://dd.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/eej042/download_stalling_fix/

Hello, I have tried to get back into the game but the launcher won't finish the update. It is stuck downloading forever and when should be done (40-50 GB folder) it simply stops downloading like is done (the progress bar disappear) but when I restart the download starts again.

At the moment after 3 days it is at 46,544 files remaining but won't move even after hours of download.

    I have tried:

    Reinstalling from scratch

    Changing language

    Using VPN

    Clearing DNS and rebooting network

    Repair client

I have space in the disc

But nothing has worked so far.

All the tests are fine but I am lost right now, is there any other solution I can try?

    Thank you!

EDIT: I have space in the disc every time I restart the launcher the number of files to download lowers by 1, so if I was stuck at 45,544 the next time I am stuck at 45,543

    Pirate themed class/build?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 03:32 PM PST

I was wondering if anyone has been able, or if it's even possible to make a pirate themed build? Like a one-handed sword and a pistol offhand, matching costume styles, etc. I'm personally on a pirate kick right now and need my fetish desires met. :D
