Anet, here's an idea this episode could have strongly benefited from...

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 07:35 AM PST

In the last year, you have shown us that you now have the software tech to force our camera in various ways during personal instances. This was notably the case in s4e5 "All or Nothing" final part "The Crystal Dragon when you force our camera to observe Kralkatorrik chasing Aurene while it broke into the Auditorium or when we flew over him between combat phases. You've also done it during Bangar's speech in s5e0 "Bound by Blood" first instance "Coming Home" for which you forced the opening angle of our camera to be zoomed onto Bangar's stage.

In regards to these observations, considering the spooky marketed selling point of this episode, I was particularly hopeful that it would contain exploratory non-fighting personal story phases in a forced First-Person viewing. Unfortunately, it didn't, which is a shame as I strongly believe it would have strongly improved the spookiness of both the exploration of Jora's keep in the first instance "Silence" and the Raven Sanctum in-between trial exploratory phases of the final instance "The Invitation" (before meeting the Fraenir).

I would love to see in the future Anet devs making more use of such tech for any exploratory non-fighting personal story phases, whether it is for adding to their potential creepy nature or to any other way we could immerse ourselves better in the Commander point of view. And who knows, maybe such experimentation would lead the devs to consider some further unforeseen implementations that would add a creepy nature to some open-world areas, without impacting the fighting phases of course (sure that would be extremely tricky, but that's been a dream I had ever since the trailer of s4e2 "A Bug in the System").

I would love to read what you guys think about it.

If you waypoint out of the dark maze in Raven Sanctum, the oppressive darkness stays with you unless you leave the map, or go back into the Sanctum.

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 06:32 PM PST

This is a minor bug. Maybe not worth a post. But super annoying. I disconnected right before making my last choice in the daily walk through the sanctum. When I relogged, all my choices had been undone, but I was still in the last room. So I decided to run backwards and redo the choices. After spending a minute wandering the dark room in circles (after redoing the library question) I decided to waypoint out to Jora's Keep and deal with the Sanctum later. Its several boring minutes of walking already, and I didn't want to waste more time on it.

Or that was the plan until my screen started fading to black. The defuff "oppressive darkness" from the maze didn't leave my character. So the edges of my screen were covered with the black mist that slowly blocked out my view, and every few seconds the shade appeared behind me to give me frost. The shrines didn't remove it either, for whatever reason. This feels like an oversight, and is incredibly annoying. Did they not consider players may disconnect in there? Or want to teleport out to fight a champ? Is making the debuff area specific really that hard?

    Help with Firebrand

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 05:20 AM PST

I'm a longtime Mesmer main and after about a year break from the game thought I'd try out the firebrand. I used the snowcrows condi build and the condi quickness and it's just not feeling right. It hits hard, but it feels really squishy and like I don't have options for cleanse and block. Am I doing it wrong? I mainly want to do fractals and open world. I know that wooden potatoes has an open world build, but it's power and I just finished building a viper set. Any advice from firebrand fans?

What actually happened with ArenaNet after HoT?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 09:21 AM PST

I remember 2015 when Mike and Colin announced first expansion of Guild Wars 2 (Heart of Thorns). They seemed to be very passionate about it. HoT was successful w/o a doubt. It bring a lot of players to the game and earned a lot of money (37k millions). HoT added a lot of new features and character progression systems. It was something huge (as expansion should be). It looks like they really wanted to bring challenges to Guild Wars 2 - it without a doubt excited them.

And then something changed but what happened actually? They had all: money and active players. Why they didn't go further in this direction? Stronger. To make even more money than with HoT. And bring even more players. Right now they would be releasing 3rd expansion and be top1 mmorpg. Easily. I can't understand it. When PoF was released (and even announced) something evidently was totally different. And it feels like something changed even before PoF release. I feel like after PoF the game goes slowly backwards rather than forward.

    Any guesses?

[Kormir] Voice of the Fallen and Claw of the Fallen 0:43 (9:17 left)

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 08:47 AM PST

    Good afternoon fellow Redditors,

since one of the new Strike Missions, "Voice of the Fallen and Claw of the Fallen" actually has mechanics and is not only a DPS golem, like the first Strike Mission we decided to grind it a bit. After several hours of trying different compositions, we realized that a condition setup is superior to a power setup. Our setup:

    • one condi support Chrono
    • one condi Renegade
    • one condi Berserker
    • 7 Scourges with Epi

    Why this setup?

Since the fight is very short the Renegade will not need to run any boon duration and thus can play the normal condi Renegade build with Righteous Rebel so he can also provide Alacrity. Furthermore, we noticed that the fight was going to be very short, so quickness could be covered with one solo Chrono. We received might from the Scourges using the skill Blood is Power.
We ran a 5-5 subgroup setup, looking like this:

    Renegade Berserker Scourge Scourge Scourge
    Chrono Scourge Scourge Scourge Scourge

In each subgroup, there were two scourges using Trail of Anguish. This prevented the knockdowns from being applied to us. The other 3 necros ran Corrosive Poison Cloud, therefore, increasing the power of epidemic and destroying the projectiles that the Voice of the Fallen casts.
Our condi Berserker ran the regular condi banner build, just because banners are still too much value to lose. We did not use any ranger in any way shape or form, because the value gained from his DPS and the sun spirit compared to the epidemic damage was lower. We precasted all the staff fields of the Scourge.

    What could be improved?

First up, we did not try stacking firebrand or mixing firebrands and necros, since we just did not find the time. This run was messed up: the Berserker interrupted one of his banners, the Chrono forgot to use his second Time Warp, a couple of DPS felt their rotation on this try was bad. All of that could be fixed. Moreover, the Berserker can use the Battle Standard for Fury and prestack his Adrenalin with Longbow at the Pylon near the entrance (Credit to CostaPrimo.7942 for this trick, sadly he couldn't join so Dante subbed in instead).

    Finally our PoVs:

I'll list all the players and their appropriate roles that participated. If they have a link embedded into their names you can watch their PoVs, if not they don't have any.

Thanks for reading and watching, nice holidays and have a happy 2020.
