I can't tell if the new masteries are terribly convoluted or if I'm officially a boomer

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 09:03 PM PST

It's rock-paper-scissors. I get that. But I've put the entirety of about two hours into the new map and I have some lingering questions.

    • Why are the designations for each mastery type three completely interchangeable nouns, including one which shares the name with a Guardian trait-line and one that sounds suspiciously similar to Resistance?

    • If the associated orbs and auras for the masteries are red, green, and blue, why is every mastery tree and icon colored blue? It can't be because they're all Icebrood Saga masteries, because HoT masteries have no problem being different colors.

    • What are the triggered abilities associated with the masteries? All the mastery text does is tell you what happens when a triggered ability goes off. It doesn't tell you how to trigger that ability or when that ability is triggered.

    • Can I attune to multiple [nouns] at once? I would assume not, because that's how rock-paper-scissors is played. But why can I train all three masteries? That leads me to believe I can use them all at once, as though I have three hands and friends willing to concede to me playing rock, paper, and scissors every turn.

    • If I can attune to multiple masteries at once, does that make me weak to certain masteries? What if I'm rock and a bunch of paper shuffles up to kick my ass? I'd actually like that, in theory. But I don't know if I can turn off or un-attune my rock mastery in order to make strategic decisions if that's the case.

    • Why do I need 30 orbs? Why are these orbs not mentioned on the mastery page? Do the abilities trigger any time I pick 30 up? If they do something unrelated, why is this not mentioned on the mastery page?

    • If we're deep in Norn territory, and these masteries represent aspects of the Spirits of the Wild or other Norn tomfoolery, why is there an Asura attempting to science my magic instead of a Norn teaching me? Why do I need an Asura to talk at me about how masteries work instead of the system making itself known through gameplay? This is a video game, right? And not an interactive novel?

Please let me know if I'm going senile. It will help my pharmacist figure out the correct brain medication I need to understand this game.

[Raid] 5 Man Gorseval 4:30 Kill

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 12:59 AM PST

Hello there, a couple of friends and I have been attempting low mans on a few bosses, inspired by previous low man kills from SC and CnD such as their Largos and full W1 one.

Today we decided to give 5 Gorseval a try with a Condition Damage variant of the fractal comp consisting of Ren/ FB/ Slb/ Brs/ Weaver. However, we came to the conclusion that a 2nd FB would be more DPS and cleave. We found the fastest 5 man on Youtube to be a 4:31 kill from our friends at Hg/sK as well as LN from awhile back and after a very very scuffed kill of 4:39, we took up the challenge to try and beat the time.

    Log: https://dps.report/fBIH-20191124-133256_gors

This kill could be optimized and pushed a lot further especially during the splits but we were satisfied with just stopping here. This was after all just for fun. We had several comrades that fell along the way to this kill - Gus who got banned for an unknown reason halfway through and Rece who subbed for us for our first 4:39 kill.

My job as the Renegade was to heal through the retal phase and provide might and alacrity. I ran Righteous Rebel over Lasting Legacy as we were struggling to maintain 25 might throughout the whole kill and relied on Natural Harmony to provide alacrity as well when traited to top up alacrity. I also attempted to keep the sun spirit alive hence the heart marker above it. Overall I had the easiest job, my friends carried.

The Soulbeast provided utility with Healing Spring to cleanse the 25 vuln you take when you tank goops as well as sun spirit which we estimated to be about ~1k DPS increase along with stance share. During splits the Soulbeast would wait till the very last second and entangle the ads so they would be stacked up for big cleaves from our DPS players.

One of our Firebrands brought Feel My Wrath! to cover quickness otherwise they both ran the same setup. Condi DPS Firebrand with quickness mantra and Liberator's Vow. They also provided stab as we did not have a Chrono focus pull to group the ads and kill.

Lastly, our Condi Berserker BS was just there to do huge damage and cleave 3 ads during the split phase as well as provide moral support.

    POVs:

    Spence (Heal Renegade) - https://youtu.be/mkloaWj3Jn8

Sakura (Stance Share Soulbeast) - https://youtu.be/68LUFlFiqIQ

Lucas (Condi Berserker BS) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syuwtcvj8Lk

Cronus (Condition Firebrand FMW) - https://youtu.be/0PJDixKAsIw

All in all, I find low manning raids to be extremely fun and rewarding. It may be a bit of a grind to get down certain bosses but the harder the boss the more satisfying it is to get the kill. I believe many people are overlooking this really fun aspect of raids and by spreading the gospel of low manning raids, more interesting and unorthodox comps could be invented!

edit: I made a boo boo and added a question flair with no way to change it on phone

CM Artsariiv solo (7:56) - Condi Renegade

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 03:51 AM PST

    Hello,

Back when I did Arkk and Skorvald solos I figured this one couldn't be done on renegade. After seeing Ollie Kendall's solo on condi FB by dropping the ball I decided to give it a go.

    Video

Not the cleanest kill but I can't be bothered to improve on it for the time being. Naturally would be faster with fractal god and better skill usage, sub 7:30 should be doable. Consumables would speed the CC phases as well but I prefer not to use them.

In the last phase I decided to eat the 3rd bomb with rigorous certainty to save some time. The rally at the end is from citadel bombardment triggering signet of agony.

Instabilities: No Pain No Gain, Frailty and Last Laugh.

Is Serpent's Ire meta ever done?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 05:54 AM PST

    Hi,
I've been trying to get Mark Y Golem for a while now. And for some time only thing that's standing between me and it is Vanquish Branded Recording, which is given after final event of Sepent's Ire Meta. Is there any hope in ever getting it anymore? Over the past few weeks I haven't seen this Meta completed even once.

Anet, is there any chance of changing requirement for this item if that meta is dead?

[Fractal] CM Skorvald 50sec - World Record

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:09 PM PST

    Good evening,

We are happy to present you the worlds first Skorvald without the use of a single Rift:

    POVs:

    SoulbeastScarWeather.9364
    SoulbeastBlackHawk.2384

    Log

Our group makes use of condifirebrand for this kill rather than a power firebrand with quickness precast. Condifirebrand in the right hands is an extremely good burster, and out performs power firebrand in nearly all scenarios. Condi firebrand plays a crutial role in this fight. Both phases 66% and 33% have the 4th add SOLO'd by the condi firebrand, this frees up an extra portal for the fight and is impossible without. Interestingly, condi firebrand also has the ability to solo its add, regen cooldowns and burst immediately on boss which is crutial inorder to sustain continous group dps for phases.

The Berserker POV is also interesting to consider as it went from our support hybrid to our heavy hitting dps spec. Due to berserkers readily avaiable dps uptime, berserker melts the split phase adds and boss dps phases accordingly.... its availability of dps is achieved via a full banner precast and portal mistlock reset to begin with, enabling the use of full utility. Moreover the berserker is able to precast copious quantities of might on mistlock prior to the fight, remaining (with topup from fb) for the fights entirety

The renegade itself, among existing tasks (might alacirty cc etc) provides the necessary support on split phases for both the bs (whos soloing) and slb who range the adds. Not merely this however, renegades positioning during the split phases and portal placement remains one of the most crutial aspects of the fight.

The two soulbeasts make this strategy possible. By soloing their adds from range, it is freeing up two portals per phase. With a number of hours of practice and determination, split phases became consistent with the perfect timing of skills/modifiers in order to burst the adds from range solo (imbetween add evade frames)

There are a lot of hiccups in what we did in this fractal kill. We are aware of the many mistakes and not fully satisfied of the kill, that being said the difficulty still resides in mechanics rather than min maxing and therefor the kill itself will likely not be improved by a huge amount overall. It feels like Skorvald has reached another important milestone and we sincerely hope you'll enjoy the strategy

Shoutouts to Dynastar who was grinding with us while we were missing one person, to [sN] for pushing the times to unbelievable milestones and keeping fractals alive and congratulations to Princeps for getting fractal god literally one day after this kill! :)

If you are interested in fractal speedkills, please note that we are currently looking for more players (preferably a weaver or DPS main). We need people with very good overall fractal knowledge, able to adapt a rotation and willing to take part in the theorycrafting. For further information, contact Ollie#1828 on discord.

    Have a nice afternoon

    Strange happenings in Bjora Marches

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 12:13 PM PST

So I've played through the new episode now and spent a fair bit of time in Bjora Marches. During my time there, I've noticed two things which I'd like to see what others think of, and what might be happening around them.

Firstly, for those who - like me - have explored every nook and cranny of Jora's Keep, you'll surely have noticed three Vigil warriors who are standing around talking to Jormag, not noticing us when we try to talk to them. However, I've found that they're not always there, and I've yet to determine the pattern for when they are and aren't - and, for that matter, where they go when they're not getting brainwashed by their new dragon buddy.

Second, after completion of the story, I've noticed ghostly apparitions throughout the map - they can be seen from a distance, and once you get close, they vanish - so far, I've seen a resting Vigil soldier, a Vigil soldier who seems to be chopping down a tree, and.. Almorra. The last of the three I haven't personally seen, but I found a video when searching for information about the ghosts, in which she can clearly be seen (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQwbY8-uyFo).

Those of you who have played through the map, what do you think of these two little tidbits? Have you noticed them, too? What else have you noticed in the map?

Why is THIS episode the one that upsets people?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:05 PM PST

This is NOT meant to bash ANet or the community. I am just genuinely curious why this episode seems to be the one that has people riled up. I've been following GW for about as long as possible: I remember the first two-page ad in PCGamer, talking about how the graphics were real in-game art. I played in E3 for Everyone. ANet is acting the same now as they always have.

Over-promising and under-delivering: GW1 was supposed to have a new standalone game every 6 months, with 2 new professions. Factions came out a year after Prophecies, so they missed the mark out of the gates. Nightfall came close (7 months) and then they abandoned the model. GW2 was supposed to be questless (when really they just removed quest givers - hearts are just quests, after all), dynamic events were supposed to change the world, not just repeat endlessly every 20 minutes, a feature that already existed in Warhammer Online years prior. Heck, at one point, GW2 was not supposed to have expansions.

Abandoned features: Dungeons, guild missions, personal story, personality, Sun's Refuge, the list goes on and on. Not to mention features they promoted that never made it in game, like how skills were supposed to work different if you were moving vs. jumping vs. standing still or that environmental weapons were supposed to matter (they mentioned Elementalists turning a rock into a meteor).

Dead storylines: Malyck, leyline anomalies, the time-traveling Charr. This doesn't even get into things from GW1 that they seemed to have forgotten about until the community hounded them, like the Scepter of Orr.

Writing: Personally, I think the writing in this episode is good, but the community has ALWAYS gotten on their case about the writing. Even Scarlet... While I think, in retrospect, this was a good bit of storytelling, it made no sense in the sense of the game world. We had just managed to kill an Elder Dragon for the first time in the history of Tyria! No one had done it before, the races of the world had hope. More dragons were awake and rampaging and .... we chose to pursue one crazy plant lady. Again, I think the actual story of Scarlet is a good one, but it didn't make sense to go after her instead of another dragon.

Disposable content: Even GW1 was supposed to be disposable. You weren't meant to have to buy all the games if you didnt' want to. Factions could play without Prophecies or Nightfall. This design philosophy has kept up in GW2. I've read complaints about the new map being repetitive or too small, but it feels exactly the same as any other map to me.

Communication: This has been an issue with ANet since the beta debacle, where they announced the beta way early, then outright lied and said they hadn't said beta would start that Q4. They never seemed to get the hang of just saying: "Our current plan is..." "We're in early alpha and this is all subject to change..." etc. They're either radio silent or they announce things way too early.

TL;DR - This episode and the last few years of GW2 don't seem like atypical behavior from ANet, so why are you upset about it?

For Warrior PVE Strength or Scholar runes?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 07:47 AM PST

Regardless of the price, what rune of these 2 is best for warrior principally for PVE open world (playing solo many times) and occasionally dungeons/fractals? I'm using sigils of strength + force in weapons.

    Thanks.

Invisible lava & strange in-out behavior of other players at strike mission?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 04:33 AM PST

When bears get together and start spamming their lava-pie-slice skills, the lava what is visible during casting, disappears a second later, invisible AoE damage continues and many players (including me) go downed from damage out of nowhere. Is invisible ground AoE damage intended or should the ground be filled with lava? It is always invisible and I can't tell where to stand.

Second strange thing is that many players get in and instantly go out of the instance. Go in, go out, go in, go out. Why players do that? I go in, stay in and wait for players but it takes long time to fill group when almost all players instantly go out. This especially happens after a wipe: Everyone (expect me, who is eager to try again) go out of instance, then same popping starts happening again. Players get in, get out, get in, get out, meanwhile I stay and wait at least 15 min for a new group. Really often they are same players who wiped before. Why players won't stay?

Where can I find guides to help me with Mesmer in general?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 04:27 AM PST

I've always loved Mesmer the most, but played it the least because I know I'm one of those bad mesmers that you hear about. Mesmers can be godly or trash...

Anyway, I REALLY want to fully understand my class and know how to play it well. I was looking up guides last night for pve in general, and it seems like guides are scarce for guild wars 2. The most recent one I saw was from wooden potatoes and it was nice. But it didn't really go over skill priority if there is one.

I feel like I usually just spam stuff off cool down. And I'm never sure if I should hold onto shatters and wait to use them once I can instantly have three more take their place or if it's better to just shatter instantly.

Why is ANET so reluctant to truly invest into this game?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 03:37 AM PST

Seriously. They could get at LEAST another 5-7 years out of it. This drip feed of content and radio silence is bizarre. The facts are this:

    1) The game STILL looks beautiful

    2) The combat is amazing

    3) The lore is deep, rich and compelling

    4) We have 3 different modes that are crying out for development

    5) they have NO other games other than this

So what is the reason behind this reluctance to fully go in and develop this game? Despite the complaining, anger, irritation and general annoyance about certain decisions , we all LOVE the game and want it to succeed. Just wtf are they doing?

Frankly I don't even see the logic in doing GW3 right now as GW2 has so much more to give. Why not hire some people whose only job is to reinvigorate the engine. Get it working for dx12, sort out the spaghetti code. Graphically the game is a pretty as anything else. That isn't an issue. Gameplay wise, the combat is still awesome. What is really going on??
