Unpopular Oppinion: Dragons End has the best meta in the game

    Posted: 06 Mar 2022 03:17 AM PST

since i am reading all the hate on the new meta, I just wanted to share that I absolutely love it. it is by far the most fun meta in the game.

I love how challenging it is and while it can be frustrating to fail after 2h over and over again, we as a community finally have a challenge in open world again. I had several fails until I decided to go full tryhard and organize my own squad. we failed at 1%. the next day we failed at 4%. and finally, the day after that, we did it! it was the most fun and rewarding thing I did in this game for a long time and I will absolutely do it again.

yes, there are some things that can be Improved (like the changes that a net already did to the meta), but I am shocked about so many players giving up and hating on an event after not even a week in the expansion. I mean, we as a community eventually will get to a point where we can kill the boss consistently but developing strats and learning the meta takes some time. why do so many people expect to get everything in this game done (like the turtle) in the first week.

so, anet please DO NOT NERF the meta into the ground. it is the best meta in the game and trivializing it like most other metas would be a shame.

    Edit:

Since many seem to dislike the rng aspect of the fight: in understand that. even tho you can win the fight with not breaking any breakbar, it makes it significantly easier, when one appears in the right moment. this might lead to frustration since "we could have killed it if we had a breakbar there", but I personally like the rng, I think it will keep the fight fresh and engaging for years. maybe there is a way between, where there is a guaranteed brewkbar other every burn phase or so. idk

The Dragon's End meta isn't hard, it's just frustrating. [DE meta spoilers]

    Posted: 05 Mar 2022 08:56 PM PST

So a lot of people are struggling with the Dragon's End meta. Some are praising it for being difficult, but I personally just find the entire experience frustrating.

    So here's the fight:

    • Focus tail > boss > adds
    • stand in green, not in orange
    • When whisp (happens after green) spam jump to get back up and hit 3, orbs refill stamina
    • When boss spins, gather blue orbs, wait for extra action for spear, use spear on boss
    • After spear, boss stops spinning, action changes from spear to jump, use it
    • After jump, glide to one of the giants, they must die at same time, can use jump again to reposition

...and that's it. Six things to keep track of. A couple are somewhat confusing on the quick run-down, but once you've seen it once or twice you know what to do. So, why is it that this mission keeps failing so often for people?

    1. PuGs suck at target swapping

Possibly one of the things randoms are worst at is swapping targets. Even if everyone is saying "TAIL" in chat, or screaming it in comms, you always have people tunnel the boss. This is normal for PuGs, and PuGs are normal for meta events.

    Possible solutions:

    • Have greater visual clarity when tail is up (such as a bubble barrier around boss) to encourage target swapping
    • Have the boss untargetable while tail is up to force target swapping (unless the tunnel vision is super duper bad)

    2. PuGs suck at DPS

They just do, random people are not going to have optimal builds, do optimal strats, etc. That's fine. It's normal for PuGs, and PuGs are normal for meta events.

    Possible solutions:

    • Reduce boss HP by 5-10%+
    • Increase amount of time to kill boss by 2-5min+

These are extremely boring solutions, but they would be effective.

    3. RNG invulnerability phases

This is the worst offender of the bunch in terms of frustration. It always sucks to lose a fight because you feel your team is under-performing, but it feels even worse when everything is on track to succeed but the boss just says: "nah, you can't dps me anymore". What I'm talking about is when the boss goes invulnerable when using tsunami, tail slap, swap position, etc. and a lot of these require reposition as well, meaning a huge dps loss AND THEY CAN OCCUR BACK TO BACK TO BACK.

    Possible solutions:

    • Have set times for these mechanics to occur, either time or HP based
    • Have an internal CD that ALL invulnerability mechanics share, that causes none of the others to happen during the CD, allowing at least 10-15 seconds of dps in between invulnerability phases

So anyways, that's my rant. What are everyone's thoughts?

Shrimp Day in Lion's Arch aka "A short story of a few hours of fun with some randos online"

    Posted: 06 Mar 2022 03:43 AM PST

*My best attempts at capturing photos of Shrimp Day are in a photo album linked at the bottom*

I was finishing up my crafting in Lion's Arch getting ready to be done for the night when I was approached by a couple of people under the effect of the Thundershrimp tonic who just kept jumping at me. Naturally, I jumped in place with them. One of them sent me a mail containing a thundershrimp tonic prompting me to join them. So I took the tonic and became a shrimp.

We hopped around LA repeating this process with other people for a bit, gaining and losing shrimp as we went. It was quite a lot of fun. We appointed some queens for the shrimp kingdom/clan/cult and we had dance rituals we did with the queen and the other shrimp. We even did a small march for the shrimp to return to the sea... After which we ended up back in front of the bank to "take over the world."

Eventually, the original recruiter for Shrimp Day ran out of the 30 tonics they had originally bought and prompted others to buy from the TP to join our slowly expanding shrimp party. One shrimp-to-be took it upon themselves to buy over 200 tonics, causing the sell price to skyrocket from 3 silver to 30. You can now see Shrimp Day happen on gw2tp's page for Thundershrimp Tonic. https://www.gw2tp.com/item/96837-thundershrimp-tonic?full=1

Our second march was joined by a few who had not (yet) bought their own tonic, but were declared honorary shrimp for joining. They became our Shrimp March Guardian and our DJ.

After about an hour and a half, my second tonic was running out. (We had to change servers early on due to a low recruiting population) We had amassed a decent following and we wanted to have a send off for all the shrimp who had joined. So we planned to have our final march and log off as it was some-hours-in-the-AM for everybody. This march gathered the most attention and gained the most people joining in to watch the shrimp return to the sea. It was a magical moment watching all the shrimp walk down the bridge with people marching along with us on all sides. All the shrimp made it to the sea, and as our tonics ran out, we took some time to visit what we had earlier declared as the "monument to every shrimp."

To those who participated: Thank you for Shrimp Day. You ruined my sleep schedule, but you gave me a truly unique, and extremely enjoyable experience.

    New Player Training

    Posted: 05 Mar 2022 06:08 PM PST

Good XYZ to everyone reading, I'm Kasu katsu a Human Mesmer that's played since beta, and done almost all content constantly throughout all the years, I've acquired a few of the raid titles as well as gotten full legendary armor. I've noticed with the release of End of Dragons the new player player base has increased which has led me to take up the mantle to reach out and train new players in whatever content they desire, from dungeons, to fractals to raiding to getting armor and everything in between. I've attached an invite to our discord below.

I would like to officially invite all new and old players to join if they wish to learn, I will personally teach anyone any content they'd like to learn including different character classes and rotations.

TLDR: exp player wanting to teach new players out of the goodness of my heart because I love the game and want to see it grow.
