My guild prepared a massive list of raiding PoV videos to help anyone getting into PvE raids (newly updated!)

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 07:56 AM PDT

Hey hey. I'm the guild leader of an EU PvE raid training guild, the Raid Training Initiative [RTI]. You may know me from my previous posts many months ago where I introduced our original list of raiding POVs and our first major update to them.

We're a raid training guild that has been putting a lot of effort into helping lower the entry barrier to get into raids. We offer raid trainings to complete newbies on a highly regular basis, organise over a dozen raids per week, give people individual assistance with their builds and gameplay, organise temporary training statics, host training streams/workshops, and answer raid-related questions from people on a daily basis. Our community is also entirely Discord-based, meaning we don't use any external spreadsheets, websites, forms, or even need you to be in the in-game guild, and none of our raids ever have KP or LI requirements.

One of the things we've been doing is recording raiding PoVs. You can learn more about them in my previous post that I linked above, but in a nutshell, a raiding PoV is just a video recording of someone playing a specific role or class in raids, showcasing decent gameplay and showing off how to perform that role as is expected of you in pugs, raid trainings, and statics. We have videos showing how to, e.g., tank Dhuum, or hand kite on multiple different classes on Deimos, or kite on Qadim, or navigate Twisted Castle, or even just plain DPS PoVs if you're not expected to do anything special beyond cranking out the damage numbers. These are all done with familiar and up-to-date strategies that you will see in pugs and trainings, rather than speedkill videos where strategies and phase times are completely unrealistic for most groups or even out of date due to being done many patches ago.

Since the last time I posted, we've recorded about 30 new PoV videos, some which update old videos that had problems and most which introduce new things like Quickbrand / Heal Firebrand PoVs and more Alacrity Renegade and Druid PoVs. We want to make this as comprehensive of a resource as possible for new raiders or people interested in trying new roles.

Before we go ahead with the PoVs, I urge anyone even remotely interested in getting into raids (or even raid commanding) to join the RTI Discord. You don't have to be a member to join - you can hang around, chat, and make use of our wealth of constantly-updated raid resources, guides, and videos. If you do want to start training raids, all you need to do is follow the instructions in the #join_us channel (after you've verified yourself in #welcome). Joining RTI is commitment-free and you can then sign up to any training raid you want, with the only expectation being that if you choose to sign up for a training raid, you actually show up at the time and date.

Having said all that, here is the list of raiding PoVs! Feel free to save this Reddit post as I'll try and keep it updated from here on out every time we make updates to it, but if you want the absolute up-to-date list of videos along with all our other resources, join our Discord!

Hope this helps encourage people to start playing some of the most fun and engaging content in the game :).

Coming from ffxiv and wow what are going to be my biggest struggled getting used to?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 02:17 AM PDT

I'm a wow and ffxiv player. Have done a ridiculous amount of content in both games from story to leveling to professions to max ranks in pvp, best in slot gear and numerous raid tiers in both.

Someone today mentioned this game and I'm very curious about it.

Wow is in a terrible place and I'm bored of it and ffxiv is amazing but I've done everything and have months until the new expansion.

This game looks fun but I'm curious as to a player coming from another series what is going to be my hurdles and what am I going to like about it.

I'm going to try the trial and see it for myself but sometimes having so additional information can be super helpful. Like someone told me about how ffxiv story is long like very very long and I was preordered for it and loved it.

It's almost 2022 and "showing offline" is still not working properly

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 04:19 AM PDT

If you didn't know, hovering over a friend who is faking his offline status shows you what map they're playing on, why is this still a thing?

And while I'm at it, blocking people shows you the same amount of information as if you added them as a friend, I feel like Anet should fix some of that stuff.

Replaying One Path Ends really brings back how... off the whole chapter was.

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 06:13 AM PDT

In hindsight they want the Balthazar thing to be the expansion boss so now it makes sense, but it feels like a really awkward way to lead into the expansion. Compare LS2's final chapter, which leads into HoT without feeling off from what the whole LS2 has been doing.

I am reminded how many felt how all of a sudden this final chapter was. Like "whoops we have to get rid of Lazarus now, for reals". So we're towed to this strange story where we're essentially joined to a faction that feels like it won't be brought back (complete with the awkward animation that I am glad they didn't fix). I wonder if a future story element will go "whoops, you're not a Shining Blade anymore!"

So fellow commanders and raiders. What are things pugs in lfg could do to make a teams life easier.

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 11:08 PM PDT

So I have been raiding and commanding for around six months now. I have noticed some overall behavior that makes my day much harder and waste time of the entire squad cos of one person. So I though I would share them so people know not what to do and would also like others to put some feedback too so I myself don't bring chaos to another raid.

    So here we go:

    1. Leaving the squad without stating your role. You leave and i spend next 5 min trying to figure out what I am missing now.

    2. Leaving after one try or in the middle of a battle. I get you might be unhappy but please dont do that.

    3. Changing your "role" without telling anyone. People are dying so you swap to heal from dps. Meanwhile I swap my discord teammates around and suddenly we have 4 healer and way less dps.

    4. Not anwsering questions. Often I will keep in people that are not experianced on a boss. But when I ask if you can do a job and you do not respond time is wasted.

So ye those are mine pet peeves and if they happen in one raid day a few times its very easy to come across a VERY rude commander. Did i miss anything? I would like to know your thoughts on raid "etiquette"

Does the Char Slot from EoD exceed the current cap?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 08:50 AM PDT

I was wondering if the Charslot from EoD increeses the cap to 72 just like HoT increased it to 70 and PoF to 71. I checked on GW2Efficiency but apparently there is noone with 72 slots so far. Im currently not capped on Charslots but want to purchase the missing ones this month once they get on sale, but if EOD doesnt increase the cap id be wasting 520 gems. I hope someone here can enlighten me.

Tldr: Should I cap Charsolts before buying EoD, or would I waste a Charslot?

Long time PvEer looking to try PvP for the first time

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 06:17 AM PDT

As the title says I'm thinking of dipping my toes into PvP for really the first time because it looks like a relatively simple way of getting ascended armour but obviously I have basically no clue what I'm doing.

Are there any simple tips and tricks the PvP vets out there could impart to help with my foray into this new game type? I was thinking I'd play my Necro for this.

    Many thanks.

    ascended mandatory for fractals?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 07:42 AM PDT

i was recently lucky enough to get two piece of ascended armor (one from an exotic champions loot bag and one from TT (only my second run)), they didnt have the stats i wanted, but should i just gear my char anyway and change the stats so it can do start doing fractals and get to higher tiers where i can farm for more ascended? Are getting ascended the only way of doing higher fractals like T4?
