    WvW Alliances system confirmed information

    Posted: 17 Aug 2021 05:42 AM PDT

Just to clarify, the writer of this translation is the user u/thisiskitta, not me.

For all the reddit users entering here that are curious about WvW, I'll leave this video.

    Alliances info:

    • Alliance beta will not align up with elite specs betas

    • No plans for siege turtle to be in WvW

    • First fix population balance then adding new rewards, giving guilds reasons to be guilds or in an alliance which will in turn incentivize winning because if matchups are balanced and you get better rewards, it will naturally make people care. (I'm paraphrasing)

    • Once we've reached the point where we have more balanced worlds and given a reason to win, then we can look at core systems (this was in response to ppt being boring and Grouch agreeing)

    • Alliances = no transfers, your WvW guild is what determines your server. This was in response to someone asking how will they stop bandwagoning if you can still transfer post alliances. Solo players will be able to choose but it will still have metrics to lock worlds.

    • 3 factors for a world: 1) Un-guilded players or those who didn't choose a WvW guild. 2) Guilded players. 3) Alliances.

    • The 1) un-guilded part of the world has a limited amount of solo players that can join the world as a way to stop people from controlling the limits by simply having people not associate with guilds and transfer to a good world. He said this will update dynamically.

    • Matchmaking will still be 1 up 1 down but every time a matchup ends, worlds will be remade based on activity.

    • First roll-outs for alliance will have basic data used for making worlds like "your guild size and activity of your guild" which would create a score for matchmaking but with time they will add more data like skill of your guild, alliance, coverage, etc

    • First roll-outs will focus on week long matchups to test the algorithm system but in the future they can play with how long matchups are.

    • Big alliances will have priority in how they make worlds to balance them out so if they have an alliance of like 2 guilds of 10 players each, those will be picked by the system after having set up the big alliances first

    • Memes about WvW being dead are just memes, WvW actually has one of the most healthy population numbers in the game.

    • Not saying that's what they're doing <emphasis from Grouch, but the idea of a wheel for quick comms (like in apex per example) is something that could help bridge the gap between players who don't want to join voice comms and commanders being able to control it's zerg

    • Alliances timeframe is not tied to the expansion because they don't know how much issues they'll encounter and how much will need to be done for it to be completed so they're keeping it separate from EoD release for now.

    • They are focusing on fixing the foundations of WvW before adding new things or working on low priority fixes. big changes first.

    • They're aware that support players get diminished rewards (he's a scrapper main so he knows)

    • He's aware of the EotM arena instancing issues, don't really have anything to say on it besides that though - he would personally prefer fixing guild hall arenas because that was their intentional purpose but it didn't end up working that way.

    • Team of engineers working on WvW, rest is working on EoD

    • Want more balance more often (doesn't like the big patch once a year)

[Announcement] Quick info about how we are handling End of Dragons Beta Week #1!

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 05:10 PM PDT

Good evening everyone. We're less than a day away from the beta starting and I just wanted to make a little post here to explain how we're handling the beta.

As there is no other events happening in Guild Wars 2 this week aside from the beta, and the devs have been very active here lately, we are going to let everyone run relatively free in their feedback this week.

We are going to have a single 'EoD Beta Test' mega thread pinned for both class and generic feedback, thanks to the devs, or anything else you want to share here, but we will not be restricting all feedback to this thread however feel free to comment in this thread with a link to your feedback post.

You are totally free to make a dedicated post for whatever feedback you have to give. We also STRONGLY recommend that you tag your post with [spec name here] and/or make it very clear which spec you are talking about. Make sure to give as much information as possible. The more information and the clearer we give it, makes it easier for the developers to use it.

As reddit only allows us 2 mega threads we are going to try things out this way and see how things go. If it winds up being too hectic during the week than we may simply make one pinned mega thread linking to mega threads of the elite specs.

Now that being said, we will be pretty strict on the duplicate and low effort posts. If there is a bug with one of the especs and there is already a post about it, we will remove future ones as duplicates, free free to comment in the megathread about the bug. 'Thank you ANet' or 'X-spec is awesome!' posts will be allowed, but within reason. Posts like that will be removed if there are a wave of them.

Lastly, remember everyone, this is a BETA. The expansion is 6 months out and we have THREE more betas after this. Things will ABSOLUTELY change. DO NOT attack any developers in anyway or you will face the banhammer. This is A GAME. Just because you're not happy with something does not give you the right to attack people doing their job.

With all that said, let's have a great beta week and give a ton of feedback to ANet to make these new elite specs be as best as they can be.

This post will be removed when the beta goes live and be replaced with the mega thread for the beta week.

Being pointed to a certain place on the map is really annoying.

    Posted: 17 Aug 2021 03:26 AM PDT

To clarify a bit, I am talking about, for example, looking at a minidungeon daily where you have a button to tell you where to search for it.

Now imagine you don't have any waypoint near the area where it's telling you to go, map locked in place. You can only watch as it takes you back to your own location and even turns your map off. Ugh.

Make hide/unhide specific to equipment templates

    Posted: 17 Aug 2021 01:16 AM PDT

With the recent addition of the legendary armoury, legendary armour can now use different wardrobe armours in each equipment template. One thing however that is still blatantly missing, is that hide/unhide is still character-wide, and not connected to the equipment templates.

Do you want a backpack on one outfit, but not on another? You can't do that.

Does this outfit look best without shoulder pieces? Too bad.

You want an equipment template with armour you put together yourself instead of your outfit? Well you're gonna have to toggle that outfit off manually whenever you change templates. Every. Single. Time.

I love matching my wardrobe to what I'm playing, so that my power soulbeast and my druid can have completely different vibes. However, because hiding is global, it's made outfits useless and forced me to hide backpacks as I don't always have a backpack matching my colour of clothing.

This probably isn't the best place to make requests to Anet, but honestly I don't even know of a better one, so here I am. Really hope this gets added at some point in the future.

'Return to'... Content is a ton of fun

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 03:38 PM PDT

After returning to the game recently and completing Icebrood Saga, I was disappointed overall. But then I started doing the 'Return to' content and I've really enjoyed it. Dry Top and Silverwastes are still lots of fun to play around in. And I personally like most of Living World 3 maps more than IBS maps.

I think the best parts are that the achievements aren't too grindy, are quite reasonable in what they ask you to do, and the rewards are pretty useful. A new ascanded weapon for one of my new elite specs next year, and when I get it all done, a legendary amulet that will benefit all my characters.

It's going to take work with 24 maps to finish, but it's reasonable requests and the rewards are great. That's the type of content I like in my MMOs.

Is it worth getting intp GW2?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 09:27 PM PDT

    Hi there!

I was wondering if it's still worth getting into GW2, I've never played it before. I've been a long time WoW player but I'm so done with it. So I'm thinking of playing GW2 instead, just wanna know if it's an active game still.

    Edit:

If you have some good beginner tips, that would help alot!

Dude I love this community what??

So, I'm on day 2 of my free to play experience. I've been playing league for years and I needed something new. I'm vibing, looking for a hero point, when a cubed raptor slides up next to me. I assumed he came to gloat at first, but he gave me three minis?! Homie if you're out there, I promise you, I will beat this game with this cat by my side!

Extreme Strikes/Raids as a Marketing Tool

    Posted: 17 Aug 2021 08:03 AM PDT

Guild Wars 2 is a great game. Unfortunately, it comes with one caveat: no-one knows about it.

TLDR: Adding some 'must have tried'-features for popular streamers like 'the hardest raids in the genre' could positively impact the whole GW2 community by showing off the game and reducing bias about the game.

GW2 has a great combat system. It respects your time. It has amazing mounts, people and if you are looking for it, there is definitely enough grind both in terms of items and skill. Yet, it is often overlooked and many blame Anet's marketing at least partly for it.

The influx of wow refugees has shown that starting the game is often met with a positive surprise.

The game is better than people expected.

Thus, simply showing off the game would go a long way to promote it.

How could one achieve the coverage that gets people interested in the game?

    1. The game has to be interesting for popular mmo streamers.
    2. Having the hardest instanced content in the genre would make the game unavoidable for streamers.

Thus, adding another tier to raids/strikes that reuses existing content to save resources, and makes it harder by reducing the amount of players needed while adding some more mechanics, could give Guild Wars 2 the key element to be known for. It would force streamers to check out the game. In the process, a lot of people would see all the other great things about the game.

But, you can simply make it harder for yourself..?!

It is not the same if you just try to lowman raids. It might be fun for some, but it doesn't give rewards and it lacks harder boss mechanics. It also doesn't create viewership outside of the game.

A lot of people would be locked out of rewards

The rewards are supposed be titles. Perhaps a cool mount skin that is unique but worse than the best gemstore stuff anyway. Perhaps some gold when you manage eventually gold, but less efficient that drizzlewood. Thus, no-one needs to feel left out. Many people would get it over time eventually anyway.

    Noone would play it

People who play strikes and raids have repeatedly been asking for such content. Newcomers from wow etc often mention hard endgame content as something they are missing. There are many guilds who starts small with their first boss kill and somewhen complete all wings. Raid progression is for many people one of the most memorable things and reliable long-term content.

Why are raids a good tool to create a niche that GW2 can be known for?

GW2s combat system has been designed with pvp in mind and thus has an incredibly high skill ceiling. This is a perfect starting point to create hard encounters. On top of that, without gear grind, the game is perfect for streamers to play as a second game whenever a new challenge arises. Everyone can take easily take a shot if he is dared to and what does it really matter if you beat some raid, have you tried a GW2 extreme raid/strike yet?

Bonus Dream Raid - what is possible in GW2

    • seven dwarfs ehhh asura challenge the mighty elemental raids boss
    • doesn't look scary
    • fk up first dps check by 20%
    • send half the squad to the gym. 10%
    • redraft comp. barely make it.
    • boss is stunned, we use the time to create a fire.
    • boss is not impressed. opens water gates
    • fk. water is rising.
    • there is a jumping puzzle.
    • dps players cant get past the second jump
    • hfb is afraid of heights. asks for portal
    • mighty druid somehow makes it
    • there is a griffon waiting at the top. the timer is ticking
    • druid can't fly griffon.
    • call the guy from the griffon videos.
    • manage to get to the secret room and use stones to stop the water from rising.
    • boss still there. we jump into water
    • someone dies after 30s because he had no breather
    • boss takes suspiciously much dmg.
    • phase boss. boss regens health back and releases poison into the water
    • try again. same thing. somehow all adds now do tons of damage
    • tie hands of dps players. find new strategy using the adds
    • break open the floor and land in next area without water.
    • boss takes a break running through a tunnel and sends us his hydra
    • we do best dps rotation. takes down 1%hp in 30min
    • dps players call pizza delivery
    • quickness drops, hfb blames mantras, but stands in front of weird objects in the corner
    • found instruments. wtf
    • join music guild discord
    • hydra sleeps now
    • stare down black tunnel
    • they raided happily ever after - or did they...?

More equipment loadouts + the ability to tie them to specific builds... when?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2021 04:38 AM PDT

I wish ANet would go back to the drawing board with this Build Template/Equipment Template stuff.

Maybe it's just a problem because I'm lucky enough to have Legendary gear & sigils, but I really wish I could have a hundred slightly different loadouts to pull from, each associated with a specific build.

Or maybe it's just because I'm an Engineer, and there are a hundred little variations that completely change my gameplay based on the activity, and whether I may want more/less survivability, or boon duration for solo/group play. Not sure how that translates over to other classes, but I'm assuming it's similar elsewhere?

Or maybe it's because I'm just too dumb to sit the hell down and pick one or two builds to play.

It's just tragically underdeveloped. And maybe I'm a moron, but I can't figure out exactly what the purpose of the build templates is when you end up having to change your gear setup completely anyway. The most tedious half of buildmaking & equipment min-maxing is not the buildmaking: it's the minutia of Runes, Sigils, and stats.

If the game didn't have a million different stat types, I wouldn't be asking for this, but it does. I'm not the one who decided to create a million different stat combination, or decided to create a million different sigils & runes, and niche builds/stats. I'm just here trying to use the game's/tools to swap specialization which, based on everything the game is telling me, is something I should want to do.

Why, then, is it so tedious?

I get it. "JUST USE ZERKER LOL?"

Yeah, I do that, when it makes the most sense. I have a couple Zerker setups. Some mix in Diviner for boon duration, some don't. Some are for Holosmith & use a Sword, some aren't. Some are for group play, some aren't. Some are for builds with weird Runes for specific Fractal solos, even. I can come up with 100 reasons to want to switch gear setups frequently, and situationally.

At this point I'm not even asking for it to be free, as ANet understandably wants to monetize the feature. I just want better functionality out of the whole ordeal. You see these Build Templates? Let me tie them to a gear loadout, at the very least.

Do we have any idea why they chose to design builds/equipments this way? Were there some tech limitations? Or is there something I'm not getting?

    Boonbrand Guide for Buff Bois

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 10:31 PM PDT

Quip I: The Experimental Pistol, has been bugged for four years.

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 03:13 PM PDT

I am unsure how many of you do the precursor crafting achievements, but I find them quite entertaining seeing new parts of Tyria, and experiencing new dynamic events.

Unfortunately, the step 'Minstrel's Misfortune - Laugh at Marcello DiGiacomo in Lion's Arch' has been bugged since he was moved mid 2017. It has been documented since at least August 2017.

Essentially, Marcello has been moved twice, yet the trigger spot to laugh has remained where he was previously in 2017.

The only reason I know that is from the original documentation which showed an image of his first location.

I am sure many people have frustratingly given up on this achievement, as this one image is the only way I would know what to do.

ArenaNet, can you please finally update the laugh spot to outside the crafting spot, near the Frog Pond, where he currently is?

    Thank you.

Movement on the World 2 - Caledon Forest

    Posted: 17 Aug 2021 08:21 AM PDT

Movement on the World 2 - Caledon Forest

    Hi cool people !

-Not a native english, be kind-

    Reminder of the concept

Here I come again, episode 2, Caledon Forest. The Movement on the World is a series where we try to deliver a way of visiting a map that rely on occurences of events to guide the flow of the players. It is intented for a slow paced exploration for new -and not so new- players that provide them with both time to learn their profession and some challenging opponents often requiring to gather with other players to really complete one path.

    Yet another remark

For this second roadmap, I have slightly modified the color on the map to try increasing readability.

    The roadmap

Caledon Forest is one of the stater zones that have a lot going on. Our journey through this map will indeed introduce us to a lot a lore in the game. Three major arcs will take place here: the Nightmare Court, the threat of the Undeads and the Hyleks tribes. This map also introduces the player to many other races such as Skritts, Tengus and Kraits. This is also a map with many jumping puzzles and I tried to build the tour such that the player will experience two of them, while the others are let optional.

Although you will not need to focus on completing hearts as events will usually make you complete them without you noticing, I advise keeping an eye out for them as they are a good source of experience. Heart completion is also a good way to kill time while waiting for an event to be active. Also do not forget to speak with the NPCs on your journey to get the full picture of what's happening in the area of the world.

    Caledon Forest's Roadmap

    Detailed Path

    1. Starting in the Village of Astorea, take it slow and complete the first heart.
    2. After that, head east. An event involving killing termites can spawn on the island, do not wait for it, you will come here again latter.
    3. Go to the Verdence and wait for Estienne. You will be able to speak to him to launch an escort. While waiting, or if Etienne is here but nobody starts the event in place of you, you can do the Heart and an event involving defending Hounds against Spiders.
    4. When you are ready, or if another player starts Estienne on his journey, follow Estienne. He will walk you to a cave north. You can explore the cave once the event is done, it is a pretty place, although there is nothing special to discover here.
    5. See the light again by getting out of the cave. Head west then south, begin completing the Heart while passing through the village. If you are not very confident in your character's strength complete it altogether. Indeed, the next part will be a little bit harder than what you've seen so far.
    6. Cross the bridge and be warned by the wardens! For once their warnings are to be taken seriously if you started this tour at lvl 2. Anyway, brave as you are, grab the two waypoints on your way north.
    7. Then cross the river and make your way into the Nightmare Court cavern. You have to get to the other side of the cavern and go down a small waterfall that will be on your right. This part and the next one can be a bit challenging.
    8. At the bottom of the waterfall, you will find a hero challenge that you will probably not be able to get. Instead, just kill the Veteran Wind Rider that is around and get the vista.
    9. Continue south. You might recognize the very place where you did your first personnal story as a Sylvari (although it was meant to be in the Dream). You can do the heart here, or run straight through and come back to where you started.
    10. From the Village of Astorea go again east by the termites event, in case you didn't get a chance to do it first time, you might be able to do it second time. In anycase, do not wait for it.
    11. Instead, go to the next waypoint east. This time you will want to wait for Brugh to be there and start the event with him. If he is not here, just go south and do the Jumping Puzzle (Spelunker's Delve) there, then do the local heart. In case he is still not here and you don't want to wait, go straigth to Morgan's Spiral.
    12. At Morgan's Spiral ends the Brugh's event. Meanwhile, there is high chances that an agent has fallen from the sky on the sputh-east corner of Morgan's Spiral's beach. You will see the icon of a dead ally NPC on your map, agent Rexx. Go revive and escort him. I advise waiting for him to spawn to continue, but if you're not patient, just go north to the nightmare court.
    13. Disguise by speaking to the Heart NPC before the nightmare court camp and do heart completion in the camp. Get out of it by the other doorway and go back to Morgan's Spiral.
    14. At Morgan Spiral do the jumping puzzle by going up the tree and on the floating rocks. Then continue through the Dreamdarn Enclave. While your done, make a loop back from where you were at Morgan Spiral.
    15. After that, go west to the already visited Wardenhurst Waypoint. On your way you might encounter an event involving Sylvaris prisonners from spiders. It is a cool event!
    16. Now go north of Wardenhurst passing by the hidden tunel. Get the Golotl Grounds point of interest and head to yet another Sylvari village to grab Brigid's Overlook Waypoint.
    17. Then go west again through Sandycove Beach and towards the Lion's Guard Haven. You will want to start the event with the Soundless villager. You have to speak to her to start the event. She is just outside the haven and a yellow icon will signal her on your mini-map. While she is not there, wait by doing one of the numerous events on the beach.
    18. Escort the Soundless villager to her village.
    19. From the soundless' village, loop back to one of the bridges your crossed with the Soundless Villager and grab the point of interest nearby. Then head through the nightmare court camp. Get the Town of Cathal Waypoint just north and venture east in some very mossy area: the Ruins of the Unseen. Take your time there while waiting for the collect event to start by getting the vista and listenning to NPCs.
    20. Do the collect event, as you will most likely be underleveled, it might be quite challenging so beware of where you step (there is a particularly skritt-crowded cavern that can be quite a nice challenge and will land a decent amount of pieces for the collect).
    21. After the collect has ended, follow the golem south to Mabon Market. While waiting for an event concerning experiments on Oozes that have gone wrong, get to know a little bit about crafting (for instance, by doing one of the achievments for crafting in the Tutorial section of the Achievements). You can also grab the vista on an island east before, during or after the Oozes event.
    22. A little while after the Oozes event ends, a new event will spawn on the east side of the Mabon Market. You will have to escort a Mossheart to a lab North.
    23. Stay at the lab after the event, a final one will trigger. Do it and then use waypoint to travel to Brigid's Overlook Waypoint — [&BDgBAAA=].-
    24. From there, head straight toward east. Do not stop for the hero challenge, but go to a hut in the Glencarn Sperrins. Aside the stairs leading the hut, there will be a mysterious chest. If it is closed you can open it and start an event (in that case you may want to walk back to the hero point and do it before launching the event). If the chest is already openned, then wait for it to be closed again. While waiting you can grab the waypoint just north from the hut so you can come back here quicly to check on the chest. Then, do the hero point you just pass by, and also the hero points you could not get in the beginning of your tour if you were levelling from level 2 (such as the one in the nightmare court North of Morgan's Spiral). If there is still time for the chest and you have not done the event with Drugh at Morgan's Spiral, you can also check on them.-
    25. After having openned the chest, do the event chain ending with a fight against a veteran Krait.
    26. From the Hylek village, go north while waiting for the Champion of the Sun Meta Event. You have a lot of events and completion to do if you really want to wait for this Meta. The waiting could be long. You can ignore this one if it is not up at the end of exploring the whole zone, but if it is up that it is quite a fun one. While you're doing that, look up on the time of the Wychmire Swamp Meta event on wiki using "/wiki timer" and checking for the next Great Jungle Worm, you want to go ahead anyway if this event is in less than 30 minutes. In any case you want to globally follow the pink path.
    27. Now we run to Trader's Green and you will be back to the Town of Cathal. You might find this sylvari camp undersieged by the Nightmare Court, or find that a certain Gamarien is scouting the Wychmire Swamp. Do these events. From now on, you really want to know when will the Great Jungle Worm spawn so that you can waypoint back to the swamp a few minutes before.
    28. Depending on the spawning on the Giant Jungle Worm, you run east to Willowalk Groves and the Hamlet of Annwen Waypoint — [&BD8BAAA=]. I have made a circuit to follow in the remaining north-east area of this map, but you might just want to do events as they come.
    29. While waiting for the worm, and if the remaining time to spawn exceed at least 30 minutes you can try the mini-dungeon near Falios Thorp or the Spekk's Laboratory jumping puzzle back west to Sandycove Beach and Bay Haven.
    30. Then do the Giant Jungle Worm.
    31. Once you have done all the above, go to Lionguard Waystation Waypoint [&BEwDAAA=] between Wychmire Swamp and Kraitbane Haven, and follow Merchant Remi and Merchand Trundle on the road to the north-west. They will trigger an event involving a Troll Chieftain. If there are not at the Waystation, they might already be on their way!
    32. Your journey is now over on this map. You can quit through the portal north-west toward Brisband Wildland. You might also quit Nort East toward Kessex Hills... But this is not intended in this roadmap.
    33. -END-

      END NOTE

Do not forget to return sometimes in the future to complete eventual puzzle jumps you skipped and properly finish map-completion (some things will undoubtedbly miss such as hearts and hero points), and to get some memories of you first steps on Tyria!

This is my very first Guild Wars 2 video - Would love to hear your thoughts! :) *I was hesitant to post here because I've heard it can be very hostile. I hope enough of you enjoy it to outweigh any toxicity. That said, constructive criticism is still appreciated! Thanks!
