At this point, engineer turrets should just be reworked into preparations

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 09:53 PM PDT

The last time engineer turrets were touched was before Heart of Thorns. The skills have not received a single change since then except for the removal of all but one of their traits. Everything that could be done to remove them from the game besides literally removing them from the game has been done. They've atrophied and no longer make sense. Their hit points are not balanced to survive even a single hit, they can't even keep up with targets when aiming, their stats don't even scale enough to be useful in core Tyria level 80 content.

It's bad enough for an entire utility skill category to be in this state, but it's made worse when you notice that engineers were only given four categories of utility skills. Every other profession was given five categories. 25% of the class's identity that people are selecting at character creation are not actually fit for purpose in any situation whatsoever. This makes the game look bad for new players.

That's not really an exaggeration either. It's not a case of "these skills aren't meta", it's a case of "these skills are busted and the numbers don't make sense ever". You place them and they die, incidentally, even with the 95% damage reduction minions get. The damage they deal is barely visible on the health bars of normal mobs. There is no way to build around these skills to make them effective, and two of the tool belt skills were carelessly designed: the rocket turret tool belt is unusable indoors, and the thumper turret tool belt gives 1s of one stack of stability (it was not updated when they changed how stability worked back in 2015, and still isn't updated).

It's pretty clear that something is wrong behind the scenes with these things that prevents them from receiving changes, because no other skills in the game have been left like this.

My hope is that with the new leadership focusing on player problems, they might look at these terribly designed skills and actually rework them into something that has some place in some part of the game. The silver lining is that because these skills are SO useless, reworking them will have no impact on any existing part of the game anyway, so they could pretty much do whatever the hell they want.

Turning them into preparations seems like it could be a good way to make them viable, in a way that isn't so encouraging of botters, and that can still satisfy the "class fantasy" of setting up turret nests. As preparations, you set up a turret nest, and actively trigger them to deploy the turrets. As preparations, they wouldn't have health, and they would scale with the engineer's stats, but would only fire a limited number of shots after being triggered. The difference with engineer preparations would be that they don't fire in a PBAoE like thief preparations - instead, they fire a limited number of projectiles from the preparation site making them more powerful against isolated targets but less powerful against groups. Ideally, one or two of the turrets could be reworked into more supportive preparations to give the engineer more support options.

Again, I really hope ArenaNet is actually considering the state these skills have been in for more than half a decade, and have something planned. Preparations seem like an interesting fit, but literally anything at this point would be an improvement since they're utterly useless right now.

Guild Wars 2 is one of the best MMO's that exist right now.

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 02:25 AM PDT

After playing the New World Beta i can say that Guild Wars 2 does so many things right where other games fail really hard.

edit. I'm talking about things like quick travel, client sided nodes, Player UI, (anti grief) quest design, easy access to end game gear and so much more!

We are very spoiled with this game and i will continue supporting it.

    LI/LD use after armory?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 08:04 AM PDT

This might only be an issue for a low % of the community but, with the release of the legendary armory, shouldn't we also get some LI/LD sink/merchant to get "something" out of it?

I mean, once you have unlocked the raid armors and coalescence, there is nothing else to use them on.

Can we please get some conversion to raid currency at least or.... just with some use?

    Who has it easier?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 07:17 AM PDT

I came back to the game a few weeks ago after a two year break. I'm having trouble deciding on which profession would be better. I don't mean which I would like better ,because that would be up to me of course lol. Rather what profession would have easier builds to learn ,and yes I'm aware of the open world Scrapper flamethrower Engineer build which is about as easy as it gets. I would like to see what all of your opinions are on the matter. I am open to all professions ,but figure maybe Ranger would fit my needs? It boils down to a profession having builds that are good for all PvE WvW play ,and do not have a high difficulty to learn. Now I know everyone is not on the same skill level so please keep that in mind when you throw in your two cents. Thank you very much.

TL;DR- I would like to know of a class that has easy to use builds for all of PvE along with WvW ,and please remember not everyone is on the same skill level. I appreciate any advice on the matter thank you.
