Tier list of AFK spots + in-depth analysis

So we ended up talking about the best AFK spots in the game with my friend. This is the tier list he created. All credits to /u/taatuh !

Feel free to share your meme AFK tier list in comments! Apologies for typos etc, neither of us speaks native English.

    https://preview.redd.it/opjxc7be8ce71.png?width=761&format=png&auto=webp&s=2bf01292b3dea955bbebcf354d8f68129d946920

    S-TIER: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    1) Auric Basin / Octovine
Simply the best, but not the west. AFK realm from your dreams. You can easily join META map ~ 15min before the event starts, since the META maps start to form after TD meta. After this you can AFK up to 40 minutes in AB, since the loot chests can be looted till xx.30. In addition, if you want the participation, you'll get it with under a minute of gameplay.

    2) Ascalonian Catacombs P3 – Graveling burrows event

Absolutely beautiful gameplay design with the timegated events in the middle of this fast paced dungeon taking roughly up to four years! During this you can, inter alia, water your dogs, take your plants for a walk and do your morning yoga. AC P3 speedrun record is 8min 42sec, of which 6 minutes is afking in this event. Insane value!

    https://preview.redd.it/u8v22sug8ce71.png?width=746&format=png&auto=webp&s=c11e6ecbd9ec8276d9184e878a7ccf6a9989e597

    A-TIER: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    3) Chak Gerent

Tremendously good AFK-event, though it takes the second place against the Gold medal AFK event that is Octovine. That said, this event you only have to play up to 5 minutes, leaving good AFK time for about half an hour. There's a little too much running around and little peepo-chaks do their best to try to ruin good AFK spots. Bonuspoints: If you do this event too fast the whole map has to AFK together – this way everyone gets to enjoy the actual endgame content!

    4) Ranked PvP match

Extreme high quality option for an AFK spot, signed by yours truly! Nothing makes AFKing as interesting as nine kids trashtalking each other. PvP reward track's treasures seem to appear out of the blue in the heated conversations! This way you will definitely get the best bang for your buck!

    5) Mistlock Sanctuary

This bad boy doesn't need a lot of introductions; great chill music plays in the background, people rarely talk too much in the chat and all the commodities you need is one Special action key click away! Downside though is that using the world map is annoying when leaving this place.

    B-TIER: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    6) Fractals of the Mists – Solid Ocean / Jade Maw

The META strat in this intense boss fight is to /gg and alt-tab to youtube's most popular cat videos. Your team can handle the boss.

    7) Tyria core story – Zhaitan

One of the most engaging BBEG fights of videogame history. Killing Zhaitan isn't even possible without afking!

    8) Drakkar

During the release this icy boi would've been A-Tier, but AFKin has been nerfed unfortunately. Preferred strategy is to wait in Joras Keep till the last phase of Drakkar fight and then use Teleport to Friend to get the kill.

    https://preview.redd.it/t3vigv7l8ce71.png?width=749&format=png&auto=webp&s=406a706334cd1ed029371818ad61307a4b87c6e5

    C-TIER: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    9) Connection lost - Character select screen

Really casual option, but works in every situation. It is a great pleasure to be able to AFK with the help of Anet servers. During Heart of Thorns, this would've been in B-tier due to the better character select music.

    10) Lion's Arch Aerodome

Basic, nothing wrong with it but doesn't really offer anything special. Would not recommend spending too much time here if not necessary.

    https://preview.redd.it/lt3lnamn8ce71.png?width=760&format=png&auto=webp&s=cc7bcfe7f7b52e7df6d7e9c2d2c10a6c4d5c8edc

    D-TIER: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

    11) PvP lobby

One of the worst background musics in the game, but as a big positive is the variety of map chat conversations you can read during your intense AFK session. They always manage to bring a smile to your face!

DISCLAIMER: Use this AFK spot at your own discretion.

    12) Dragonfall

Against the many rumors of being a great AFK spot, Dragonfall is one of the worst places for that. Mistborn chests can only be opened with Mistborn keys and those are gained by doing map events. From killing Kralkatorrik you only gain few keys – Not worth TBH.

    13) Death-Stranded Shatterer

Do you like AFK pain? This is the place for you. Near impossible to find a spot to AFK. Tornados, meteors and all sorts of hydras will find and kill you in 2 mile radius all the way to the mountains, just for fun.

    https://preview.redd.it/bbiyy5cp8ce71.png?width=725&format=png&auto=webp&s=188386d45c73f0675607e827bdcf0cbf858d5b36

    E-TIER: ⭐️⭐️

    14) Tequatl

Probably the worst meta event for a jaded AFKer. Multi-part event that requires you to tag boss multiple times and in addition do secondary events to maximize the loot and get all four Tequatl chests. Tequatl and its minions will make sure your AFKing results in death. Also the closest waypoint is way too far during the event and the actual Tequatl gamers hate AFKers and refuse to resurrect/heal any downstate enjoyers. It is recommended just to avoid this event entirely.

    15) Lion's Arch bank:

Girl: Let's play investigators! I wanna be Kasmeer.

    Boy: Okay. I'll be Marjory.

Girl: (giggle) If you're Marjory, you gotta let me give you a kiss.

    Boy: (yelp)

    Girl: (giggle) Come back!

    KYS.

    16) Choya piñata

If you AFK too long, the boss is already dead. Do. Not. Blink.

    https://preview.redd.it/o2drpfwq8ce71.png?width=771&format=png&auto=webp&s=1cd76669777757239c8ce6827d44d29b5ab1e3d3

    F-TIER: ⭐️

    17) Royal terrace

Absolutely 0/5. Royal terrace's most important NPCs (bank and trading post) are situated right next to a portal which makes constant and annoying humming sound. Also the roleplayers like Divinity's Reach, which results the chat filling with all sorts of nonsense which you do not want to read.

    18) Wvwvwvwvw

Keeping up the participation increases your stress levels by a lot and most likely a condi thief kills you during your YouTube video marathon. Can't really even call this AFKing.

    19) Afking while defeated.

    Impossible. Defeated music is horrible.

    Welcome WoW Refugees!

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 03:13 PM PDT

I have a feeling there may be quite a bit of you, not only with the news of the major lawsuit, but just the way the direction the game has been going for some time now.

I am a veteran player that has played the game for almost seven years without changing MMO's; recently, I did take a few months break. But with the news of the expansion, I plan to get back into it.

In any case, welcome! I think you'll find the community here to be QUITE different than what you experienced in your MMO.

There are some helpful links on the front of this subreddit to get rolling, but just in case you missed them, here is one in particular: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/wiki/newplayers

Please feel free to ask questions! You'll find this game to be VERY different than what you're used to. :)

Why do you leave other MMO in order to play GW2?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2021 02:24 AM PDT

As title says. Nowdays its kinda popular to leave MMO and join other one and I am really curious why do you guys joined GW2? In my opinion GW2 is really different from other MMOs due to very horizontal progression, not so hardcore PvE endgame and other very unique aspects. What was your main reason to join our community?

Strikes should include all of the boss encounters from all 7 raids

    Posted: 30 Jul 2021 01:46 AM PDT

If the end goal is to introduce players into raids and people have been begging for easy raids would this not bee the best way to teach players with the actual bosses and their mechanics?

    Legendary Crafting Tips and Tricks?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2021 03:20 AM PDT

I'm sure with the Legendary Armory and the wait for EOD there's going to be many of us working on legendaries in the coming months, so I'm hoping to get a nice thread of tips and tricks going here to aid both veterans and new players with our leggie journeys - I will try to edit the post to summarize tips from the thread! I'll start with the few things I know:

    • Farm Volatile Magic to buy trophy shipments to buy up your T6 mats. If you have Unbound Magic to spare you can also buy Magic-Warped Bundles. Good VM farming methods are the daily-reset nodes in Thunderhead Peaks and/or Grothmar Valley, investing in at least one glyph of VM for your gathering tools OR the VM tools buyable from vendors in Dragonfall, as well as just running around L4 maps gathering the specific map nodes.
    • Park alts in Bjora Marches at the chests > get Eternal Ice Shards > turn them into L4 currency at the vendor > consume currency for VM > buy the trophy shipments.
    • For those of us not into PVP/WVW there are still ways to use the reward tracks to get materials and Gift of Battle - there are a few dailies for both modes that are easy to complete when they're available: Land Claimer, Big Spender and Mists Guard Killer can be easily done in EOTM without (usually) encoutering a single soul other than people doing the same, and doing an unranked match in PVP when Daily PvP Matches Played in Unranked or Ranked Arena is quick and easy (and may get you one or two more PVP dailies completed if you're lucky). Both of these types of dailies give potions that further your reward track and efforts can be maximized with the guild reward track boost and some of the consumable boosters available.
    • If you're planning to get it anyway Kudzu is a pretty good legendary to get early on as it unlocks the Hidden Garden in Mount Maelstrom: a good place to park spare alts and a good source of income if you use the VM gathering tools.
    • If you have or are able to invest in 3 Shared Inventory Slots and you have Unlimited Gathering Tools, make sure to equip any basic gathering tools on all your characters. Then every time you switch characters from the one with the Unlimited Tools you just double click on the tools in the Shared Slot to easily change tools, allowing you to share one set of Unlimited Tools with all characters. This makes investing in glyph of VM more worthwhile (I have one on the harvesting tool since that's the one I use the most).

    From replies in the thread:

    • Start time-gated stuff early
    • Do T4/CM fractals daily, buy mystic clover from the fractal vendor
    • Do Ley-Line Anomaly daily for 1 mystic coin
    • Log into alt accounts if you have them for daily rewards
    • Do all wvw/pvp non repeatable tracks that give clovers (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Clover) - each gives 7-14 clovers
    • Get a home instance with all Living Story 3 and 4 gathering nodes for daily income of unbound/volatile magic or farm someone else's (friend, map chat or LFG)
    • For gen1 legendaries use gw2efficiency to check if crafting the precursor is cheaper than buying
    • Buy basic mats you'll need now, prices are low at the moment
    • Buying materials with gold is more efficient than farming the materials themselves, in most cases, but it comes down to what you enjoy doing more
    • Play the game at your own pace and do what you enjoy - everything you do in Guild Wars 2 generates gold and focusing too hard on efficiency and grinding can cause burn-out

NOTE: We all know the quickest way is to pay real money for gems, turn them into gold and buy a legendary - lets stick to in-game methods for this thread.
