Being "rewarded" with the privilege of being able to spend additional time, energy and effort on the actual reward doesn't feel like an actual reward. It feels like a way to keep me playing against my will and locks me into an "all or nothing," mentality where I ask myself, "Why bother?!"

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 05:25 AM PST

There is such a thing as a balance. We're moving away from it.

I miss being able to do a thing; an event, an achievement or meta-achievement and walk away from it with an item. Increasingly, you walk away with a recipe or an insulting low amount of currency shards that try to monopolize your time.

When I was new it was things like the Fervid Censor backpack. ArenaNet was really good about doing this sort of thing in LS3 & LS4. Pretty much every meta-achievement added a new episode-themed skin or some easily acquired skins that I could be excited to share w/ my GW2 friends.

I'm not normally a fan of achievements, but in many cases I obtained these skins. Things like The Bloodstone Crown, Dragonscale Epaullettes, Glacial Gauntlets, WM Elite Guard Mask, Houndskin Mantle and the Mursaat Brogans.

These days... I feel like instead of being given the item itself we would be given a recipe with a market-price of about 100-150g minimum and 30-60 days worth of account-bound materials obtained via some new flavor of the month content.

It just feels bad to have lost this much faith. Right now the way that ArenaNet is structuring their reward systems is turning me away from the game. I've gradually been approaching this point where Tuesday rolls around, and I'm like,

"Oh it's a Tuesday, GW2 has an update... meh..."

because I know that I'll have to jump through a series of hoops to get the actual item rewards for playing the game (as if playing the game isn't enough). I'm not being rewarded in the moment for doing a thing such as the story. I'm being rewarded after I satisfy an arbitrary number of additional requirements; material-wise, gold-wise, time-wise.

ArenaNet: If you want to keep me playing this is not the way. It's exhausting on a mental, physical and emotional level. I want to play the game, not feel like the game is playing me.

    Lupi 3 seconds speedkill!

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:00 AM PST

    Hey everyone!

After a long long time, a new record for the fastest lupi kill has been set!

    PoVs:

    Roul/Guardian

    Jan/Engi

    Hint/Engi

    Left/Soulbeast

    Yui/Soulbeast

    Log

We originally wanted to include this strategy in our fullrun record of arah p2, however it wasn't realistically doable, due to 2 reasons:

    • We had to use a lot of classes that have significantly less dps than the comp we used for this 3 seconds kill because they are better in the long run (2 thieves, mesmer)

    • Apperently the mesmer's moa signet was stealth patched and does not break Lupi's bar anymore, whereas the engi's moa transformation does 50% of his bar, which is why we used 2 engineers for this.

Not much to say about the comp, as mentioned before 2 engis were mandatory, other than that guardians and soulbeasts are currently the burstiest classes in the game.

The previously fastest kill was 4.2 seconds by DnT set back in 2k13, using the back then bugged jumping damage traits. The until now fastest kill you could consider to be legit would be the rT 7 seconds speedkill set in 2k14, utilising old fgs4.

    Hope you enjoy the kill!

Discretize [dT] - 100CM builds and more

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 10:08 AM PST

    Hey reddit,

We finally managed to update our website with builds that can be efficiently played at the Sunqua Peak challenge mode fractal. This includes the Condi Soulbeast, Condi Firebrand, Condi Renegade. However, we want to emphasize that this does not imply that other builds can not be played efficiently and often the build you are most comfortable on will be the best choice! In fact there are many builds that we would place in a offmeta condi section, but since none of us plays anything but the aforementioned builds we are only recommending what we know works well after testing for half a year.

    Link to the website

Table of contents: 1. New builds for Sunqua Peak. 2. Videos page 3. The next iteration of the fractal META 4. Letter of appreciation, guide contributions and Patreon

    1. New builds for Sunqua Peak.

The three new builds (Condi Soulbeast, Condi Firebrand, Condi Renegade) were already showcased a few days ago in a record run on Dark Ai by [XVII], [qT] and [dT] (reddit post). A good, organized group would run 2 Condi Firebrands, 2 Condi Soulbeasts, and one Condi Renegade.

Condi Soulbeast – Condi Soulbeast is a strong, easy to play DPS class to bring to 100CM for both statics and PuGs. This is due to its high damage, mobility and unique buffs it can bring (especially Sun Spirit being a nice party wide DPS increase). Build wise it is very similar to the raid setup with the major difference being that you want to swap Axe/Dagger for a Shortbow. This allows you to pew pew Ai from range while she is dashing and forcing you to split during mechanics. It also has the advantage of a fantastic movement ability (Quick Shot), which allows you to very quickly dodge suicidal party members during the split mechanic.

In static groups it has the advantage of bringing Moa Stance which allows a very aggressive variant of Condi Alac Ren to be played. This will substantially increase their DPS and have the rest of your party sweating as they close in on your damage. In PuGs it also has strong utility with Healing Spring which is fantastic for keeping everyone topped up and condi cleansed as the average person facetanks frequently AoEs. The downside to this build is that in PuGs it can be hard to burst initially due to it requiring a longer prestack, but with a bit of communication, telling your party to wait, this should not be a problem.

Condi Firebrand - Another easy to play and very bursty condition build perfectly suited for Sunqua Peak fractal. This build features a lot of personal sustain, utility and CC skills, such as Sanctuary (750 breakbar damage, perfect to drop one on a Sorrow and continue your dps), Mantra of Potence/Feel My Wrath for quickness generation, tomes and so on. In the meta RGB comp you split quickness generation between two firebrands by taking two Potence Mantras and Liberator's Vow. Condi Alacrity Renegade - We feature two builds for different comps, one having 80% boon duration to provide buffs without any help and a raid no concentration build for double RR / Moa Stance comps. Condition Alacrity Renegade offers a fair amount of damage, but DPS ramps up pretty slow compared to other condition classes. But due to the nature of the Ai encounter it is still much better than the power variant. We recommend playing condition build even in pugs, because it provides more than enough cc and more damage.

    2. Videos page

Princeps spent the past few weeks working on a new page, which bundles all the videos into one handy page.

The video page features PoVs from different fractal scenarios, starting from beginner PuGs and ending up with high-end kills and even records. We will be updating this page whenever we get new content rolling. The goal is to eventually have PoVs for all encounters for all meta compositions that we propose (Rainbow, Rainbearbow, RGB, read the next paragraph). Since we aim to provide reference material for other groups we only accept videos with very few mistakes being made. The downside is, that it is significantly harder to get a clean kill without a mistake made by one of the participants. While under normal circumstances a single mistake often will not change the outcome of the fight, we are aiming for perfected videos.

    3. The next iteration of the fractal META

Some members of Discretize have toyed a bit with the idea of switching the main composition up a bit, which led to trying out riskier compositions, and maximizing damage to minimize the duration of boss phases. All our observations can be found on the meta-explained page.

We made a few observations, which are due to just a few changes in the last two balance iterations (February 2020, July 2020): - Weaver lost the ability to share Fury with fire blasts, and gained in its place a 10% damage modifier which takes too long to ramp up. - Guardian (DH/Core) gained the ability to share more fury, but lost a great amount of party wide quickness. - Soulbeast receiving major boonshare, and damage buffs great damage buffs in February. - DH and Core Guardian receiving major buffs in February, especially with the Virtues Traitline and its additional 10%. - Warrior receiving additional Quickness on Axe 4.

It became clear that Weaver was the only major DPS class which couldn't sustain enough Quickness on its own, without dropping a Sigil of Force, or using unwanted Lightning Hammer abilities (Warrior having its dual axes, Soulbeast extending its own boons, and Guardian gaining way more from "Feel My Wrath!" than others).

This conclusion, coupled with Guardian and Soulbeast buffs, as well as gaining a longer uptime of the overpowered "One Wolf Pack", has led to taking either Weaver or Berserker, or even both, out of the equation, in favor of an extra Soulbeast.

The Berserker can not put out enough burst with a second Soulbeast as phases become even shorter while banners are too weak to make up for its lack of burst. Similarly, the Weaver has weaker upfront burst than the Soulbeast, and has the disadvantage of forcing the Guardian into playing Firebrand.

We introduced the "RGB" Comp (going by colors Red-Green-Blue of the professions), which in our experience performs overall better. It offers high-risk-high-reward gameplay, for coordinated groups with a lot of experience.

    It consists of: * 2 Dragonhunters * 2 Soulbeasts * 1 Renegade

With how much damage this composition brings, Quickness can easily be covered with the Soulbeast's Moa Stance and "Feel My Wrath!", and kill times can be pushed down even further.

The "Rainbearbow" composition, named after the famous Bearbow Ranger build and the Rainbow comp, also performs very well. It replaces only the Warrior with the aforementioned second Soulbeast and consists of: * 2 Soulbeasts * 1 Weaver * 1 Guardian * 1 Renegade

The Guardian is still forced to play Firebrand on some bosses to cover Quickness, but taking away the Warrior in favor of higher Burst Damage and One Wolf Pack uptime allows phase times to be shortened further. Here the Weaver is kept for its good burst and sustain as well as its ability to provide conjures. These conjures are essential for this comp and provide the Soulbeasts with additional damage in their usual downtimes. (This downtime would instead be made up by the two Dragonhunters in RGB)

    4. Letter of appreciation, guide contributions and Patreon

I want to thank everybody who contributed to this update. Many members of dT stepped up and contributed text guides, videos, and information - they deserve a huge thanks. They owe their time to no one and yet we managed to once again update the website to the latest revision of the game and our knowledge.

Many learned how to use the markdown editor to contribute guides, showing that even those unfamiliar with web-development are able to contribute to the guides on our website. Our guides are open-source, which means that anyone can edit them and submit change requests via github or discord.

    Github: https://github.com/discretize/discretize-guides

Finally, if you enjoy our website we would very much appreciate financial support. Our founder Metagame pays about 50€ a month for as long as this site exists although he quit the game a long time ago. Yet he still is available to help me out with questions about the code and pays whatever is left of the bill. As of writing this message we have 10 patreons contributing 31€, which is the majority of the bill. However, it would be cool to take that pressure off our inactive founder.
    Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/discretize

In case you encounter any errors on the website we urge you to let us know in our discord or by writing a message to me on reddit. Some videos are not present yet, but we will fill the gaps in the next few weeks.

We wish everybody a good time in fractals!

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 06:28 PM PST

So I got a build on meta battle. Explosive sword holo. I chose engineer because it seemed super cool and unique. Anyway, I got verbally lambasted by a guy on the enemy team for my noob build and that im a loser for choosing it. I need to git good and learn to play a real build. Whats wrong with that build? What type of builds should I be playing?

PS: I am a noob to pvp if that wasnt clear.

Help me clean up my bankspace

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:54 AM PST

I hope you can help me clean up my bank/inventory space. Returning after 2 years.

One of my bankpages is full of skins: https://i.imgur.com/Q9GDrAk.png

Every single one of these says "Skin unlocked". So I guess the item would simply give be a transmog without using a charge right? Is there anything I'm missing? Because I have so many transmutation charges that I will never bother taking these items out of my bank even if I would want to use one of these.

The next items that seem to only take up space are these: https://i.imgur.com/8l4ASSs.png

The 4 at the bottom seem to be some teleporting items I got when I logged in during an event but never played it. Can I just destory them? Or will I need them the next time the event comes up?

The 4 in the upper row ... the first 2 seem to be some item I can exchange somewhere. Maybe I just got them by doing an event or something, but never used them. Are those "rare" or do they just take up space?

    Upgrading Dragon Slayer Weapons

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 01:29 PM PST

Ok, so why on earth do we have to recraft the entire weapon each time we want a slightly different variant of the same skin? What happened to upgrading the item? You should be able to build upon the previous tier, because as it stands, you literally craft it and then immediately dismantle it, unless for some strange reason you end up using it...and yes I know there was that whole issue about throwing away the precursor weapons to the top tier boreal weapons, but this is NOT a solution!

Heads up take care buying the dragons watch voucher pack!!

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 02:08 PM PST

So Update: after recontacting them and asking to escalate the ticket they did take care of my issue :)

I purchased the dragons watch voucher pack. I used the items to choose what I wanted. I had previewed the Shimmering Skyscale skin before clicking okay (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shimmerwing_Skyscale_Skin)) it was highlighted but for some reason I ended up getting the Dreadnought Raptor which was not what I choose. Not sure if it was a highlighting error or game bug or what but its not what I purchased. All the items I choose were correct except that one. When contacting you customer support they wont refund or fix it which sucks because I got something I did not purchase thus wasted my gems.

HOW DO I FINISH DIVINITY'S REACH OR DO I EVEN HAVE TO DO THAT P.O.S

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:47 AM PST

Now Listen, i already gave GW2 a try THREE TIMES!
Each and every time, the reason I quit, is because i get bored AF running around Divinity's Reach, trying to reach unreachable vistas and unreachable Waypoints. Now my question is, WHAT DO I DO? I am level 13, and can't go anywhere. There is nothing that would point me in a direction like a questlog or quest list that i can choose, no, i just have some shitty vista and waypoint markers that keep disappearing and changing. Please help me. I really want to play this game, but i hate this part of it!
