GW2 Achievement Hunting Recap 2 -- Whisper in the Dark

    Posted: 12 Dec 2020 04:51 AM PST

Hello, browsers of r/Guildwars2! It's time for my second post in this series, and today we'll be looking at Whisper in the Dark, the achievement category for Eastern Bjora Marches. This area is considerably smaller than most, but there's still a good bit to talk about. Let's get started!

    Quantity (6/10)

Quantity of achievements is one of the places where East Bjora seems to suffer the most. With only 39 achievements, there's not a ton to hunt for in East Bjora. However, these achievements seem to me to cover just about everything there is to do in East Bjora, and there's some decent variety: hunting Champions, collecting food for Bright Shore, searching for Norn Chests. I appreciate that they didn't bog East Bjora down with more achievements than the area had content for, but the incredibly low number is a bit disappointing. Sure, it's half a map, but West Bjora has 50 achievements in comparison.

The meta-achievement requires 20 achievements, and isn't too hard to achieve. In fact, I'd say it's one of the easiest.

    Challenge (3/10)

Remember above, when I said lack of quantity is one of the things East Bjora suffers from? This is the other one. Simply put, there really aren't any difficult challenges to go for with East Bjora's achievements. Its achievements aren't mindlessly easy, mind you, they certainly require player engagement and skill, but there's nothing that sticks out as something that's meant to be an especially difficult challenge for the player.

I will make note of a single achievement, Constant Vigilance. This requires you to defeat the Boneskinner boss without allowing it to kill any survivors. This isn't particularly difficult, you just have to break its defiance bar each time it attempts to teleport. If you have a decently sized group doing the event, you're practically guaranteed to get this achievement.

*Here is where I would like to make a note about Strike Missions and their related achievements. I haven't done any Strike Missions yet, and so I can't factor those achievements in when it comes to scoring these posts. I will give Strike Missions their own dedicated post at some point in the future. Until then, please tell me if you think they would make a difference in any of my scores, and I will edit my posts to include your thoughts. Thanks!

    Secret Achievements:

Hey, this is new since the last post! I couldn't think of a better place to put it, so it's here under the challenges. I'll quickly go over East Bjora's secret achievements and how to get them.

    The Grind (8/10)

East Bjora doesn't have a lot of especially long grinds, but there are a few achievements that will take some time.

    • Mysteries of the Raven Sanctum requires the player to complete Raven's test in the Raven Sanctum a total of 8 times, obtaining the blessing from each possible combination of answers. I recommend using a guide to ensure you get a different one each time. This achievement can only be progressed once per day, as you can't get a new blessing until the one on your character runs out. This does present a method of drastically shortening completion time, however: if you have multiple characters who have access to the Raven Sanctum, you can complete the test on each of them to earn multiple different blessings.
    • Raven's Favor requires the player to successfully complete the Storms of Winter meta-event 15 times. The meta is easy to fail without a large group, so this one can be annoying. Make sure to use event timers to catch every one, and keep in mind that it always triggers right after Drakkar.

East Bjora has very few achievements that require any extended grinding, though this is where we're introduced to the concept of "Complete event X times" achievements through Raven's Favor. I'm sure they'll come up with a better way to handle this in West Bjora, like they did in Grothmar, right? (Foreshadowing!? In MY Reddit post!?)

    Rewards (6/10)

Time to go over some achievement rewards.

Firstly, completing every East Bjora achievement nets you a grand total of 234 AP and 10 IBS Mastery Points, 4 of which are Insights. Considering how few achievements there are compared to Grothmar, the total AP reward is pretty damn high.

While many of East Bjora's individual rewards aren't very individually exciting, it make up for it with sheer number of rewards.

    Collections

Since it's relevant this time around, this section is only for big collections that typically cost a lot to get, often weapon and/or armor skin collections. I will not be going over The Hunger or Bjora Marches Historian here. Just keep this note in mind for the future.

East Bjora has two main collections: Ancient Weaponeer, which requires you to purchase every Ancient Boreal weapon from Anette Eymundrdottir; and Master of the Ancestral Forge, which requires you to purchase every Restored Boreal weapon recipe from Anette and then craft each weapon.

    • Each Ancient Boreal weapon costs 2G and 75 Eternal Ice Shards to purchase. Collecting all 16 of them will cost a total of 32G and 1200 Eternal Ice Shards.
    • Each Restored Boreal recipe costs 2G and 100 Eternal Ice Shards, for a total of 32G and 1600 Eternal Ice. They can only be purchased after you've purchased the matching Ancient Boreal Weapon.
    • The Restored Boreal Weapons can be crafted using orichalcum and ancient wood parts, Eitrite Ingots, and Berserker's Orichalcum Imbued Inscriptions.
    • (Thank you to u/ShinigamiKenji for pointing out that the wiki has already calculated the material costs of most collections.) As far as materials, crafting every Restored Boreal weapon will require a total of 160 Eitrite Ingots, 80 Globs of Ectoplasm, 80 Vials of Powerful Blood, 560 Orichalcum Ore, 585 Ancient Wood Logs, and 18 Cured hardened Leather Squares.

    Overall (7/10)

East Bjora suffers from a lack of quantity and challenging achievements, but you can tell that the developers definitely still knew what they were doing. I'd say East Bjora is worse overall than Grothmar, but seeing as it has very few grindy achievements, many players will probably prefer it, which is completely valid. Here's hoping that the next categories maintain this level of quality... (Foreshadowing!? In my wjhscngjswcb)

My next post will be about Shadow in the Ice and West Bjora! See you guys then.

Should ANet remove F2P accounts from sPvP?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 07:23 PM PST

Anybody that plays sPvP on a regular basis knows just how prevalent F2P hacking accounts have become in the recent months. It's become a major de-motivating factor for me, and clearly a lot of others as observed in the PvP lobby, recent WP video, etc.

Should ArenaNet remove the ability for F2P accounts to play sPvP, or rather impose further requirements on accessing the mode (i.e. achievement points, story completion, minimum playtime, etc)?

    [snek] Siax | Speed Kill | 19s

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 03:19 PM PST

    Hi, Reddit!

We're happy to show a new speedkill strat for Siax that capitalises on a new DPS check we noticed in our previous grind for a 23 second kill. Meeting this DPS check skips the first set of adds entirely, making the first and second phases into one long phase after which the boss proceeds as normal. This seems to have been introduced in the patch changing the stun/exposed duration on various CM bosses. We've been limited on time and wouldn't be able to play more until January, and there's still more work to be done on optimising this strat, but we're happy with the result: the first Siax the Corrupted kill below 20 seconds.

The key here is to damage the boss to below 66% HP within approximately 2.8 seconds of the boss spawning, which inexplicably skips the add phase. After this, he gains a breakbar, which we must break after a very heavy DPS check to 66%, while still not running out of damage to burst the rest of the way to 33%. Subsequently, the normal 33% split phase happens. After this is a normal 33-0% phase, which we had to dispatch using the few cooldowns we had back up in the short timeframe of the kill.

    Log & PoVs

    Log: https://dps.report/QJxV-20201211-221216_siax

    Group Composition

Here's our reasoning for the team composition we chose:

    • Dragonhunter (Virtues): Guardian is essentially mandatory for quickness. Competes with Soulbeasts in the 100-33% phase for damage, and the Weaver in the 33-0% phase, making it an extremely strong pick for damage, too. The downside here is that giving it adequate time to set up on the final phase while still maintaining a fast add phase time is difficult. We used precasted Dragonhunter traps, but not those which disappear when you swap traitlines ("bugged traps") - this leaves out Procession of Blades and Light's Judgment.
    • Renegade: There's a breakbar to break, so Renegade shines, and Alacrity helps with some cooldowns, in addition to the general team support Renegade provides.
    • Soulbeast (x2): Using good old One Wolf Pack duration stacking for the whole team to get through the 100-33% check at a good pace. It also does a lot of damage, but the downside is that the cooldowns at this pace don't allow it to do much during the 33-0% phase.
    • Weaver: When there is so much damage to do in such a short timeframe, the conjured weapons it provides are invaluable, giving the team more skills to use when their weapon skills are exhausted. There's also the obvious reason of doing big burst damage.

    Tidbits

Here's an overview of some little things we employed to overcome some challenges with the fight.

    • Having to break a breakbar again immediately following a full phase worth of burst is new. This is where conjures really help out, giving us both additional CC skills and additional damage skills.
    • Getting enough damage for the 33-0% phase with two soulbeasts with no cooldowns meant that we had to ensure both our Weaver and our Dragonhunter had enough time to set up their damage on the boss. We did this by giving the Dragonhunter all precasted traps for the add so he could camp in the middle, using minimal range skills to take out his add.
    • Nightmare Hallucinations usually appear in the second boss phase in speedkills, but this time they're around in the 33% add phase. We dealt with this using some prestacked Aegis for all but the Dragonhunter, who is forced to end his existence if he loses Aegis due to Virtues damage modifiers. Since he camps the middle during the add phase, it was tricky to avoid him getting hit by his tethered Hallucination. We ended up solving this by coordinating our positioning while the Hallucinations were spawning (as they tether to the nearest player) to give specific people specific tethers. We positioned the precasted Purification trap inbetween the boss and the Dragonhunter's tether, so it gets blinded when it slithers in, can't hit the Dragonhunter and can't strip his Aegis.
    • With the fight getting significantly faster, cooldowns got significantly worse. We dropped Frenzy on the Soulbeasts and capitalised on Impact instead during the 100-66% phase break. Frenzy offers a slight damage increase in the third phase from Barrage, but we didn't find it to be worth it when half the Exposed stun damage bonus was spent channelling the entire duration of Barrage.

Special thanks to Roach and ELITEBEAST for lending some Agony Resistance!

    Thanks for reading!

    Grothmar Valley Effigy event question

    Posted: 12 Dec 2020 06:11 AM PST

I have heard from other players that if you kill the three champions, that are marked as optional, that there is a loot table bonus for the event loot after a successful event. I have been searching, here, official forums, wiki, etc. and have found no information on this subject. Is there any truth to this?

If there was one map zone that defines the Guild Wars 2 experience for you which one is it and why? It could also be a very specific part of a map such as a valley or a town. I’m genuinely curious :) happy weekend everyone

    Power Herald in CM Fractals

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 11:16 AM PST

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe6BUzlVLTk&feature=youtu.be

    Hello,

Occasionally the topic of playing power herald in fractals comes up and people seem to say silly stuff like "its not really viable past t3 unless you don't mind getting carried". And as that one guy on NA who does play power herald in CM fractals on NA and pulls pretty good numbers to the point I'm often asked "what's your secret" I figured I shall reveal my secret with this vid where I present a compilation of pretty good kills for each of the CM bosses. Some of these were done in full pugs some in casual clears with friends. For the 98 and 99 bosses I tend to out dps probably 95% of pug dps players so I would say its totally viable for most groups.

I will note that I don't normally play herald in Sunqua Peak because condi ren just pulls way better numbers more easily while bringing good cc without the huge dps loss of swapping to staff, but p herald is way more fun so there's that.

I really enjoyed fighting the Risen Putrifier

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 08:40 AM PST

I'd not doubt if I get some hate for saying the following, but when I do World Completion, of which I'm currently on my 7th time doing so, I enjoy trying to solo Champions if they happen to appear. Most times I'm able to do so pretty easily, others take a few tries. Generally all it's about is cheesing them some how or doing a DPS rotation.

While fighting the Champion Risen Putrifier in Malchor's Leap I failed 3 times but had a lot of fun doing it. He reminds me a bit of bosses in Dark Souls in that he has very clear tells and obvious skills to avoid/counter. I find many Champions aren't like this instead having instant/very rapid attacks, channeled and nearly unavoidable attacks, or just things hitting you from every which way.
I understand they're designed for groups though, so that's why they have these kinds of attacks.

Still, I think it's very fun to fight enemies that I can learn from. I don't mind dying if I know why I died, and it feels great when I can visibly see my improvement.

I imagine some who read this will think it sounds stupid because I'll bet certain builds can blast through most Champion health bars in .5 seconds. I just wanted to share why I've been enjoying myself doing World comp lately and how much I enjoyed fighting this Champ.

    A little more context- I've been playing full zerk Herald and have solo'd every Champion I've encountered. The only ones that took more than a few tries were;
Champion Krait in Sparkfly Fen because of the close quarters
I think it was Champion Risen Captain(?) because single hits did like 95% of my health.
And I gave up trying the Megaladons because the multi-hit charge has like 0 tell so I kept getting hit by it.

Supa's Daily Gold Farm (Tips + Tricks)

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 10:47 AM PST

Hey Everyone, I see a lot of threads asking how to make gold, asking what to do or craft, etc. I made my gold the old fashioned way, daily grinding, trading post manipulation, and a small jackpot of 2000 gold from Amnoon. I wanted to break down my daily routine and post some tips that I've learned. This post assumes a few things, mainly that you have a copper salvage o matic, a mystic salvage kit, and a level 80 character.

    Server reset:

A great way to start your farm is to look on LFG about 30 minutes before server reset to join a large group for Tequatl. Killing Tequatl will net you about 2g, a handful of uni'd gear, and a chance at an ascended box.

Go to Timerline falls for Ley Line Anomaly. Before LLA spawns, you should have 5 or so minutes. This is a great map to farm platinum. This is also a great time to check and pin your daily quests (more on that later) . LLA spawns randomly on the map, so you have plenty of time to explore and not felt left behind.

When LLA dies, skip the unbound magic and waypoint to Tangled Depths. You need to get here as fast as possible because this map will fill almost instantly after he dies. Pick the lane you're comfortable with, and when the Chak dies, your main objective is to loot the statue chest, then wait until the wall opens and loot as much as you can. Amalgamated Gemstone is the preferred award from the heros chest.

After this, Auric Basin is your next target. Pick the lane you're comfortable with, and when you win (PICNIC!) you're main objective is to loot the 4 major chests, more if keys permitting. Again, Amalgamated Gemstone is the preferred award.

    Daily

What's next? If you have access to guild halls, hit the harvesting nodes in each, then start working on your daily. I prefer PVP or WVW dailies as the reward tracks are great money makers. You can also ask guild mates or map chat if anyone has a full home instance that you can harvest (don't spam chat - and if someone invites you to one, make conversation, leave them a tip and add them as a friend, most people love inviting friends to home instances). I typically eat all of the LWS3 + 4 mats for unbound and volatile magic, which you can then turn into magic warped packets and trophy shipments, respectively.

    Tips

**-**Sell your amalgamated gemstones that you earn unless you need them, they're typically worth 75s each

-USE GW2EFFICIENCY to find the best buy/sell patterns!!!!!

-ALWAYS OPEN GREEN & BLUE BAGS before salvaging. There is a chance for them to 'upgrade' to the next rarity level. I typically use copper salvagematic on these after they're opened. Also, the bags loot can change on what level the character who opens them is at - so sometimes it is more profitable to open them on a lower level character (typically in the 50-60 range).

-BEFORE OPENING YELLOW BAGS, compare their sell price vs the price of ectos. If ectos are worth more, open them and salvage them - if the bags are worth more, sell them instead. I typically open them, then use mystic salvage kits on these for higher chance of obtaining ectos.

-EXOTICS - many times, the exotic price is determined by the sigil or rune it holds. I always check the price of this first, and if the rune is worth more, I'll salvage with a black lion kit so you get the ectos, as well as the rune that you can sell.

-If you have extra Laurels, you can convert them into crafting bags (T4 bags are the best value right now, but I typically buy T6 as they're harder to come by).

-If you're going to convert gold to gems... always check the exchange price first. I typically will NOT convert unless it's 220+gems per 50 gold. You can burn through money so quickly this way

-You can complete a new characters level 10 story every week for a Black Lion Key. This can be a great payout for 30 minutes of work.... or you can get crap.

-You can gamble in Amnoon in Crystal Oasis. For 100g and 250 ectos, you can either win huge or bust hard. aNet is nice and you never leave completely empty handed, but you can burn through your savings fast, and you have 0 control over the outcome. That's Amnoon baby!

    Farms

**-**Bitterfrost Frontier is my favorite solo farm - though you will need the Koda Flame mastery. Open as many chests as possible around the map, then collect berries. You can eat the berries for magic, or save them as you can buy a handful of ascended stat-selectable pieces with them

-Drizzlewood allows you to select the track & rewards, but it's important to join a map when it's in the early stages so you can get 150% participation quickly. My favorite method is to switch between moving pact bulls, killing bosses, and capturing bases to max it as fast as possible. I prefer doing South over North personally (I'm a believer that North meta burns more keys than it's worth). Make sure to buy 10-15 keys daily from the vendor.

-Silverwaste RIBA isn't as good of a farm as it used to be, but it's generally mindless and is a good source of materials and loot. Don't forget the greater nightmare chest, and that you can buy keys from the vendor with bandit crests.

-If there is a Holiday event (Like the upcoming Wintersday), my general rule of thumb is to sell EVERYTHING for the first few days. The prices typically skyrocket, then will slowly drop the longer the event is going on.

-If you have a group of 5, Fractals can earn you alot of money and ascended gear, but higher levels are difficult and not for everyone.

Those are my thoughts, but I might add more as time goes on. Cheers and happy hunting!

Legendary weapon crafting every 6 months - easy 83g to 220g per hour invested (cir. 2021)

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 11:46 AM PST

    Preface: This is an FYI

This is not an active way to farm gold - sure, but it is a semi-passive one that I do over the course of 6 months that nets me one legendary every 6 months with minimal time investment and earns me over 1,000g profit twice a year.

This is not intended as a "how to make gold" guide, but as a little fyi on how crafting legendaries for sale is still very profitable at the near start of 2021.

    Important note: Gift of Battle

I login every day anyway and do my 3 dailies, one of which is almost always a WvW: so keep that in mind. I will not count a single hour spent earning the Gift of Battle because of this, as more than two entire tracks can be completed every 6 months from the potions alone by doing at least one WvW daily and consuming the potion (with around 7 extras per month due to more than one easy one per day randomly = over 182 potions per 6 months, with only 80 required to fully complete a track).

    Map complete time estimates

I do not personally dedicate a lot of time to the map completion. I get nearly a third of the map completion done while looking for things to forage/mine/lumber during the random daily quests throughout the year. However, since I know some people do make it a dedicated mission I will calculate both.

    • Actual hours invested

I like to play a movie in the background while doing the map complete, usually one of a quality I am unsure if it will hold my attention (if it turns out good, I stop playing and watch. If it sucks, I have the game to focus on with the movie in the background -- Example: Storks) had some moments worth watching, but overall it was not worth being fully engaged with). Due to this (and how I like to have fun/goof-off while playing) I'm not the most efficient at earning the 2 Gift of Exploration per map complete (I know the talk of the town is 20 hours per map complete, but that's if we're dedicated -- I have divided attention when doing this). So for me it's 28 hours per map complete, or around 14 hours of play to get one Gift of Exploration.

    • Dedicated hours invested only

Of those 28 hours a year, I'm only honestly grinding for around 20 hours, as it really feels like around 8 hours of that is shaved off from my habit of going to an unexplored zone to do the daily for harvesting and exploring/heart-completion/POI finding on the way. (hence the higher end of the gold per hour vs the full map completion time estimate).

Profit estimates from GW2efficency don't really apply with this method

The calculated "profits" listed on GW2efficiency.com are only accurate if you forge all of the Mystic Clovers instead of generating most of them naturally (ie. for free) via monthly rewards and buying T6 mats (more on that later). Who's really spending 8 gold per clover for the entire legendary (479 gold per legendary)?

    • Free Clovers

With 2 coming from the Gift of Battle Item Reward Track and 7 from the Chest of Legendary Crafting Materials over 6 months: about 6.5 chests or ~45 clovers -- you only have to craft 30 clovers (28 if you're completing two tracks, but I digress).

    • Crafting the remainder effectively for free

Remember that we naturally generate mystic coins each month from daily logins (about 20 per month, or ~130 every half year). At around ~4 coins per clover, that's easily enough to craft a legendary at 0 bought off the TP to you: because let's real here, very few of us actually sell the coins at the 15% TP taxed rate anyway (hence why the price for coins is so damn high). Yes, we do get back around 0.2 coins per attempt at a mystic clover -- so ~24 mystic coins back -- but let's assume terrible RNG and 0 coins back for argument.

So that 479 gold investment estimate for the 77 clovers on the site for a Gift of Fortune? Effectively, it doesn't apply to this method. How about that remaining 404.53 gold for the Gift of Magic and Gift of Might?

    • T6 materials -- we earn quite a lot without realizing it.

While yes, a whole lot of T6 materials are required for each legendary, remember that we're still doing dailies, playing story, and other things throughout the 6-months/year. So most of us have enough T5 and T6 materials in our material storage from regular play to cover more than half of the cost to craft a legendary outright -- saving us easily 200g. I'll add a separate estimate for buying every material for the Gift of Magic and Gift of Might, but honestly a ton of it will be discounted from your natural acquisition over time.

    • T6 materials -- Don't forget material promotion.

While this is tear inducing boring, in my mind the most profitable use of T5 materials is to mystic forge them into T6 mats, thanks to the new repeat button it takes me about an hour of my time (with a movie in the background) to upgrade a few stacks of each when it's time to make the legendary for sale.

While this will cut into our gold-per-hour rate, I generally find using these materials to promote like this to be more than worth my time invested. As it both clears up my inventory space and is a more profitable use of the T6 materials I have than selling them on the TP at a 15% loss (\24g down the tube that way)).

    The number crunching TL:DR

If we do discount the time to earn the gift of battle as "naturally accrued during Daily logins", then we have only the two estimates of "dedicated time invested" vs "actual time invested" per map complete to calculate, with two different methods of acquiring those materials (for a total of 4 calculations).

I generally save around 79g on T5 and T6 materials for both the gift of Magic and the gift of Might from general play (about 44% of the cost of both combined), so adding that 158g cost back in gets us a profit of 1162.

So instead of the roughly 500g profit for something like The Bifrost gets listed on GW2 efficiency for, by taking the long path over 6 months it's between 1162g and 1,320g profit.

    • TL:DR the totals

Dedicated time invested - Full TP buying T6 mats

    1162g / 6 = 193g per hour

Actual time invested - Full TP buying T6 mats

    1162g / 14 = 83g per hour

If buying all T6 mats from TP via order: between 83g and 193g per hour

Dedicated time invested - ~Half TP buying T6 mats and promoting T5

    1320g / 7 = 188g per hour

Actual time invested - ~Half TP buying T6 mats and promoting T5

    1320g / 14 = 94.3g per hour

If spending about an hour promoting materials and ordering the other 56% of the T6 materials via order: between 94.3g and 188g per hour

    Closing note

Before listing these on the TP, ask your guild mates and people on your friends list who you trust if they would be willing to buy it off you for 10% off the TP price. You get a 5% more profit this way and they get a massive discount (in the case of the Bifrost, that's 99g more gold in your pocket and they would save 298g). Obviously, you should know the person fairly well before you do this, but it gets both of you a win in this manner.

Fun little thing to remember, \29 hours over the course of 6 months means we are only forcing ourselves to do something boring for an average of 0.036% of our free time per 6 months (total free time per 6 months = ~809.62 hours at 4.4 free hours a day), so if you do spend a lot of your free time in GW2, doing a passive map completion for gold is a really good idea!)

Volatile Harvwsting Sickle doesn't give volatile magic.

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 11:49 AM PST

I understand there was another post about this.

For me however it happens in both WvW and open world. I have tested it in several ults and in different areas including core maps, lws and both expasions, results are the same. Axe and mining picks are working fine, only sickles not giving volatile magic additional to normal harvesting results.

I post this and hope someone may help me find a way to fix it. And if not, maybe as a reminder of such thing may happen and to think twice when you decide to buy these tools.

p.s. I have been using these tools for a while but don't recall such problems existed before. Maybe this is a new bug comes with one of the recent update?

Edit: To be more specific, im talking about the tools bought by karma in lws4 maps, not the gem store version or the glyph.
