    So back in 2005 or so my dad took me to a game store and said I could pick a game but not one that's too expensive. We weren't well off so we stuck to pre-owned and bargain bucket games. I was about 13 at the time. I found Fable: The Lost Chapters and a little game called Guild Wars on the "Buy any two for X amount" whatever shelf so I picked them up not really knowing what to expect of the latter. I'd seen a bit of Fable played before but had never heard of GW, it just looked cool.

    I can't remember which game I played first but when I did play GW I was instantly drawn in. I think I made a big manly bald headed Warrior as my first character, with pecs like concrete slabs and arms like tree trunks and gods was I bad at the game. I didn't know what I was doing, really, but I LOVED it. I remember the intro cinematic having like 5 FPS because our PC wasn't great and could barely run either game. I remember finishing the tutorial area and seeing Ascalon get destroyed by the Charr (Spoiler alert for something that happened 15 years ago) and then asking in chat how to get back to how it was before the Searing. Anyway, I played that game almost religiously at first, and I never really got much better, I didn't understand meta builds or endgame, I could barely even finish the story missions half the time. I bought and played Factions a hell of a lot as well, but never finished it either. Then came Nightfall, which was probably the first time I was really hyped up for a game release. I bought as soon as I could afford it after it came out, and I think Nightfall was the first campaign I actually finished from beginning to end, with a lot of struggling.

    I got a few irl friends into the game around the time that Nightfall came out as well, and we'd play it a lot together. I had my own guild and eventually found out that some of my guildies were roleplayers, so we started throwing some in-character stuff into the mix while we played and made our own storylines. After that came Eye of the North, I think all my friends and the roleplayers had quit and I'd lost contact with most of those who I didn't know from my own town at the time, but I kept going and played fairly avidly with the occasional short break. I stopped playing for a while after that until I met a guy in college who used to play GW like me, we got talking about it again and I managed to convince him to come play with me.

    THEN came the announcement for GW2 and damn was I hyped for it, I'd talk to my friends and basically anyone who would listen about the characters I wanted to make, which weapons I would use and all the places from GW I was looking forward to visiting and exploring again. I played the Beta too, but I mostly just messed around with the character creation and did the starter zones for a few of the races as I didn't want to spoil myself too much.

    My first characters when GW2 came out were a human thief, a charr warrior and a norn ranger, for some reason I didn't make a sylvari, which these days are definitely what I would consider my most played race. I've spent so much time in GW and GW2 and have made so many great memories, moreso in the latter game than the former. I've had good times in the game, and bad times. I've met a hell of a lot of people through GW and GW2, made some long lasting friendships with quite a few people who I am still friends with and speak to regularly to this day, and I've lost a few friends in that time as well. I've had my fallings-out with the game as well and taken a few extended breaks. Cue 13000 hours of gameplay between the two games and a significant part of my teen years and adult life later, here we are. I'm still avidly playing both GW1 and GW2 (albeit not particularly well).

    Dad wasn't into games at all "I'm too stupid to play them." he used to say to me all the time. But he was always supportive of my hobbies, and saw gaming as much more than what most of the rest of my family and friends tended to see it as. My dad passed four months ago. I recently made a new character on GW to honour him in my own way, and if in the future I'm able to afford a free character slot or two I'll make one on GW2 as well.

    In the words of a close friend who said it best "That's a lot of memories and shit that happened from that random moment of choosing a game in a game shop I'm glad that happened or I wouldn't have met you and that would have been boring af." So thanks dad, I love you old man.

    Bugged for over a year: Build Templates + Revenant Utilities

    Just a simple reminder that Revenant Build Templates STILL swap utilities into the wrong slots frequently when swapping between templates. It's been over a year now with NO ATTENTION from Anet on the issue, despite it being a major bug and huge pain point for Revenant players. Most Revenant players I know that play more than 1 build on their Rev experience this frequently, so much as several times a day.

    This is completely unacceptable in my eyes and it's clear that infuriating/mildly gamebreaking bugs that do nothing but alienate segments of the playerbase are not a priority for Anet to fix.

    The newly released outfit is nothing I fancy too much (especially since it's really similar to the one we already have -> https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Abyss_Stalker_Outfit) but the high heels are incredible!

    I love fashion wars and the variety of it and it drives me mad that the coolest fashion items are outfit-locked. Cool masks, scarfs, heels and such.

    Question about arkdps's custom keybinds(per character)

    So almost everytime i relog to another character or restart game, my stow\draw weapon keybind resets to empty, i cant replicate it reliably, but sometimes it doesnt reset. How could i properly save is, so it wont change anymore? All other per-character unique keybinds are properly saved everytime.

    Hello everyone,

    We are back with the 2nd best encounter after Escort, that is the golem Mursaat Overseer !

    After seeing dP's record in April and having tried a bit during the Raiding League, we decided to try our best to perfect their kill. No real theorycrafting about team composition (we tried Power Chronomancer a bit, but it was no match), but much more about builds, rotations, positioning.

    -- General strategy --

    Since the last record, Soulbeast has been nerfed by 50 power which has made beating the previous record harder. To counter this loss, we added some precast (sharpen spines, bonfire, sigil of doom and sigil of leech). We also used a sun spirit because we saw it was a valuable addition compared to 1 Signet of the Wild. We also moved the renegade to the first group so that only soulbeasts would benefit from Assassin's Presence.

    During the first attempts, we noticed that the Empower Allies and Assassin's Presence weren't spread evenly. To fix that, we had the warrior move during the fight to spread his Empower Allies. It was impossible for the tank renegade to do the same and therefore we decided to keep 3 Soulbeasts closer to the tank while they were out of their bursting phases, and further away than the other Soulbeasts during their burst to allow for a smoother spread of the offensive boons.

    For the Soulbeasts rotations, we mainly modified the opening to ramp up the vulnerability quickly. In the rotation we replaced an auto-attack with our healing skill but it ended up making our rotations out of sync. We added another Hunter's Shot on the last LB loop to fix that.

    -- Daredevil –

    The daredevil build is made so that quickness lasts until the boss is just about to die. It may only run out on the daredevil and the alacgade at the last second, since other classes generate some for themselves. For the rotation, the objective was to fit in as many bursts as possible with an offensive staff, while still spending some time on the boon duration staff to provide enough boons. Plasmas also had to be spread evenly so that might wouldn't fall off.

    -- Warrior –

    The warrior was playing with the Tactic traitline to provide EA and some might thanks to phalanx strength. The Battle Standard was also taken to give some more might since the warrior started the fight with full adrenaline.

    -- Renegade --

    The Renegade was playing with two sets of swords. One of them with sigil of concentration to provide the alacrity and the other is a berserker set with sigil of impact for the DPS increase. The Breakrazor's Bastion had to be placed on cooldown on the spirits to keep them alive. The Soulcleave's Summit was placed on the DPS pack to prioritize the Soulbeasts. The skill was only used during the Soulbeasts bursts to maximize the damage output.

    Useless damage multipliers

    Regarding the WvW CC-nerf: several skills and traits are still connected with damage multipliers, for example Berserkers Headbutt: 100% damage increase for Headbutt when Stability is removed. The damage is 7. Same with Wild Blow. This is just besides Hammer and it's trait being absolutely useless now except for stuns. But why are there still so many traits (I main warrior so I don't know about other classes, I bet there are many issues as well) that are absolutely useless now in WvW?

    I get the overall CC nerf instead of going back to good old stability as it would seem that anet would recognize it's mistake and reverse it. No, you nerf it at another place to avoid admitting a mistake. But why are there those prefixes left? At least remove those in WvW completely, it's so embarrassing. Glad GW2 isn't released on steam, their rating system would have crushed the game.

    Regarding Headbutt and Wild Blow: those two skills are so freaking slow, avoidable and single target, just why.

    Hi all,

    I'm a potentional new player and just have a few questions regarding the game.

    Is base game entirely F2P, meaning I can hit max level entirely for free before purchasing expansions?

    I am most likely going to work my way through the story/grind achievements as I go... how much am I looking at for all expansions (will just be purchasing as I require)

    As a self-confessed cosmetics addict, will I this late in the games cycle still be able to obtain rare, shiny cosmetics?

    You know the guy who doesn't want to be trapped with the Mad King for an entire year? I don't want to run around with 500 Shadow Raven tonics for an entire year.
