How to do damage? (and other noob questions I have)

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 04:52 AM PST

I play Gw2 since a few Weeks and thus far have a thief and a Warrior at 80 (previously I played an Ele before I got my account back). I used to play Greatsword on Warrior then went condi dual sword/longbow and now dual axes. On thief dual pistol and dual dagger. On the Golems in heart of mists the damage is fine enough tho when I find myself in an event like Great Oouo (to name a lower end) or the legendary giant in dry top I cease to do damage. I'm essentially stuck in downstate 80% of the time. Melee is... idk how the others do it but ..I can't get in melee range either cause of fear or getting one-shotted by an aoe attack. It's kind of depressing to see how others go casually solo group events/champions/elite mobs while I'm like yelling for help. For example the elite noble at Cursed Shores that guards the hero challenge. I died like 5 times until a Guardian came along and killed the noble faster than I could move up. Similarily on Event Bosses I just kind of lie on the ground trying to figure out what the other players do...

I must be doing something very wrong. Or perhaps misunderstand the way the combat works ground up. I try to use the meta builds but I can't really get them to work I've read and watched quite a few guides but without much success. Thus far I only had the core game (bought the expansion just this morning).

So essentially, how to do damage? How to not get instantly downed by bosses/elites? How to deal with stuns/knockdown/etc?

I get that the game favours melee damage and you're supposed to dodge all that you can but honestly regarding my thief for example I dodge two attacks and face tank 3 others because I'm out of endurance and initiative. I also have a very bad time with multiple opponents. Especially mobs that chill/stun/cripple. With the Ele it went sort of better since I had the bubble and whatnot but nowhere near being able to solo an elite. Generally I'm quite unsure which class to pick since I'm having trouble with all of them..T-T

Hope some of you can enlighten me,

    Have nice day.

How does MF affect Unidentified Gear?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 07:02 AM PST

I've checked the wiki. I've also read through this.

The problem is that it just doesn't seem accurate.

For example, I just got done with an Unidentified Gear opening session. According to my character sheet, I had 837% MF. That should be more-or-less enough to get nothing but greens out of the Common Unidentified Gear (blue) drops.

I didn't document my openings with great detail, but I opened roughly 3,000 blue, 3,000 green, and 550 rare during a 30-minute period with that 837% MF. I won't make estimations here about how many of each I got, because it'd be estimations.

However, my general process for opening blue gear went as follows:

    1. Drag 125 blue gear into a shared inventory slot.
    2. Open-all on the 125 blue gear.
    3. Disenchant the Common Gear that came out using my copper-fed.
    4. Drag another 125 blue gear into a shared inventory slot (typically done in parallel with 3).
    5. Open-all on the 125 blue gear. (Repeat of 2)

From here, 2 through 5 would repeat until my inventory no longer had 125 free inventory slots. This would happen progressively as blues opened into greens and yellows.

Every ~3 cycles of opening blue gear (`25 at a time, so 375 blue gear opened), I would no longer have 125 free slots, which meant I had to address the greens.

From this 375 blue gear opened, it would fill my inventory from the base amount taken (~30/200) to ~80/200. This means that I was getting roughly 50 (green+yellow+exotic) per roughly 375 blue unidentified gear.

I understand that my numbers are rough estimates. However, the chart in the link I gave at the top of this post implies that I should have been receiving 0 blue gear and 100% green+ gear at 837% MF. I wasn't even close to this. I was getting around 85% blue gear.

That source appeared to be the most authoritative explanation on MF, and it seems extremely wrong. Not just in its extrapolated data, but even in its core data. It suggests that 50% of Blue Unidentified Gear turns out as Green+ gear at only around 375% MF, which anybody could trivially disprove.

So are there any other, more accurate sources that I'm missing?

Does anybody know if steam users would be able to gift expansions to ArenaNet Users?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 06:27 AM PST

asking since I tried guild wars 2 and quite enjoyed it, but then learned it was coming to steam so decided to wait.
but now the game was delayed indefinitely on steam.. and i realized i may be able to buy the expansions i'll need through steam (for lower pricing cause of regions) and then gift it to my arenanet account.
anybody knows if that'll be possible?

Who are your favorite content creators in 2020?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 12:17 PM PST

Started playing GW2 again recently and I need some suggestions on who to watch on youtube to stay up to date with the game. Used to watch a lot of videos about the game back in 2012, but the only channel I still remember is WoodenPotatoes.

    Question about Grind and Endgame

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 04:51 AM PST

    Hey GW2-Community,

I need some inspiration about the Endgame with the exception of Fashion Wars. I've been playing for 4 Months and already got to see quite some stuff (Fractal Level 100, some Raids and the whole Story + all Maps including LW 100% completed). I got 3 Ascended stats, but no Legendary.

I'm a PvE Casual and don't have too much time on my hands (sometimes more, sometimes less). My Question right now is, what can I do as Endgame Content, without going for Skins or a Legendary. I like Legendaries but I don't enjoy the Grind to it. The time I have to play, shouldn't be used for grinding.

Soo since I'm not really creative and don't really have an idea, I kinda ran out of content. I know GW2 offers a lot, so that's why I'm reaching out to you guys, to get some inspiration for content, which excludes Grind to some extend.

Thanks in advance, for your ideas!

For those of you who do all content in GW2, what are the difficulty scales?

How hard are the various raids, fractals and CM's in GW2? What's the hardest ones?

What’s the game like these days?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 11:00 PM PST

Hey guys, I played years ago and recently game back to GW1, but really do pine for the open world. What's the player base like these days? I basically see GW1 as a single player game these days and that's fine with heroes, but the open world of 2 would feel pretty lonely if there's no player base
