My guild prepared a massive list of raiding PoV videos to help anyone getting into PvE raids (newly updated!)

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 02:59 AM PDT

Hey hey. I'm the guild leader of an EU PvE raid training guild, the Raid Training Initiative [RTI]. You may know me from my previous post many months ago where I introduced our original list of raiding PoVs.

We're a raid training guild that has been putting a lot of effort into helping lower the entry barrier to get into raids. We lead dozens of raid trainings every month for complete newbies on any time and day, give people individual assistance with their builds and gameplay, organise temporary training statics, host training streams/workshops, and answer raid-related questions from people on a daily basis. We've also quite recently reworked our community to be entirely Discord-based, meaning we don't use any external spreadsheets, websites, forms, or even need you to be in the in-game guild.

One of the things we've been doing is recording raiding PoVs. You can learn more about them in my previous post that I linked above, but in a nutshell, a raiding PoV is just a video recording of someone playing a specific role or class in raids, showcasing exemplary gameplay and showing off exactly how to perform that role as is expected of you in pugs, raid trainings, and statics. We have videos showing how to, e.g., tank Dhuum, or hand kite on multiple different classes on Deimos, or kite on Qadim, or navigate Twisted Castle, or even just plain DPS PoVs if you're not expected to do anything special beyond cranking out the damage numbers. These are all done with familiar and up-to-date strategies that you will see in pugs and trainings, rather than speedkill videos where strategies and phase times are completely unrealistic for most groups or even out of date due to being done many patches ago.

Since the last time I posted, we've recorded about 50 new PoV videos, some which update old videos that had problems and most which introduce new things like Druid PoVs for harder bosses, mechanic-free DPS PoVs for all bosses, alternate strategies like throne tank on Dhuum, alternate class roles like Druid doing anomalies on Qadim the Peerless instead of BS, and a whole host of other videos. We want to make this as comprehensive of a resource as possible for new raiders or people interested in trying new roles.

Before we go ahead with the PoVs, I urge anyone even remotely interested in getting into raids (or even raid commanding) to join the RTI Discord. You don't have to be a member to join - you can hang around, chat, and make use of our wealth of constantly-updated raid resources, guides, and videos. If you do want to start training raids, all you need to do is follow the instructions in the #join_us channel. Joining RTI is commitment-free and you can then sign up to any training raid you want, with the only expectation being that if you choose to sign up for a training raid, you actually show up at the time and date.

Having said all that, here is the list of raiding PoVs! Feel free to save this Reddit post as I'll try and keep it updated from here on out every time we make updates to it, but if you want the absolute up-to-date list of videos along with all our other resources, join our Discord!

Hope this helps encourage people to start playing some of the most fun and engaging content in the game :).

After accidentally discovering the Flame Temple Tombs, I want to discover and explore every last corner of this world.

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 03:21 AM PDT

Hey guys! Hope you're all doing good!

I would like to share a story of my discovery experience with this game for those interested in that perspective.

So far I have to say, the main thing that never fails to blow me away is the exploration and discovery aspect of my experience. It's crazy how every area in this game is just jammed packed with hours of content. I'm the type of player who likes to improvise and challenge myself with personal "homemade" objectives and this game is just perfect for that. I am not kidding you, the Incendio Templum area kept me occupied for two days total in which I played around 6 hours in total. The fact that I can extract so much game time from a singular area of the map is incredible.

This challenge reached his final point with the completion of the Flame Temple Tombs, which is the closest I have seen to a dungeon instance in this game. I say closest because if I am not mistaken, it isn't considered an actual dungeon instance in GW2's terms. So you're telling me that a temple with puzzles, riddles, hidden doors and bosses is NOT even a dungeon? Damn, alright!

This is what I mean when I say the exploration aspect of this game is so good. This is an area that I randomly stumbled upon; it wasn't forced on me by a quest or by a "standard progression path". I just discovered it by walking there randomly. And then after entering it, I was captivated from start to finish.

I could've skipped it entirely, but because I explored, I found it! From my experience, this is the game's greatest strength so far as a level 27: giving you a good reason to go pretty much anywhere that looks interesting on the map. Since I started playing, all I do is look into the distance, pick a cool looking spot and go towards it. I have yet to be disappointed by one of those random spots. Every time I find myself on a new spontaneous adventure and I love it.

Now that the Flame Temple Tombs showed me what kind of awesome stuff is hidden around the map, I just want to explore it even more to see everything there is to see!

I would really like to know: When you were a noob like I am, do you remember a specific "wow" moment like this of yours? A moment where you were blown away by a spontaneous adventure or by a specific spot in the world you discovered? Did you personally enjoy the exploration aspect of the game?

If you guys want to hear more of my adventures, I'll drop the link to my video related to this specific area: https://youtu.be/8svNHrplttQ

Profession and race statistics from the past few days

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 07:08 PM PDT

    Howdy gamers,

for the past week or so (since the 15th) I have been monitoring the popularity of each profession with gw2 efficiency and I thought some people here might enjoy seeing it

how its done: so gw2 efficiency has a table where you can see the cumulative hours played of each profession, race, gender, and a few other things. by screen shotting these and the comparing the numbers a few days latter we can measure the change. this is not perfect because there is a chance (I dont know for sure) that deleted characters subtract their time from the total. additionally it is only a sample size of almost 290k players and 13% dont have HoTs so rev might be a bit off.

ok with that aside since the 15th this is the number of hours played

    guardian: 537k

    necro: 505k

    ranger: 491k

    warrior: 392k

    ele: 332

    thief: 309k

    mesmer: 253k

    rev: 232k

    engi: 221k

nothing too shocking but is is cool to see. of course guardian necro and ranger are on top and engi and rev are on bottom. you could multiply rev by 1.13 to simulate everyone having hots but im not going to.

next we get to talk about race. oh boy here we go

I have only been following the race stats for 2 days but here they are in that time span

    human: 512k

    sylvary: 265k

    Asura: 160k

    Norn: 155k

    charr: 115k

again nothing to surprising but it is still cool.

I hope you all found this cool to see, again I know it is not perfect but I think the relative positions are pretty accurate

https://gw2efficiency.com/account/player-statistics this is where I gathered the stats. it has the all time stats since release.

thanks, let me know how you feel about all this

Shattered Observatory CM 5:15 by Nightmare Shattered [Ns]

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 01:38 PM PDT

    Guten Tag Reddit,

Recently we decided to work on a 100CM full run, permitting only those precasts which do not slow down the fractal itself. The strategies that you will see here (33 split Skorvald, mid-side-mid Artsariiv, and fast push Arkk) are now fairly common in high-end static groups, but we are excited to show what is possible without relying on 30 second precasts and excessive use of /GG.

    POVs:

    Lars(Weaver)

    Xarax(Soulbeast)

    Ryan(Soulbeast)

    Fines(Firebrand)

    Kai(Renegade)

    Skorvald:

Weaver skips Ride the Lightning in rotation for rift mobility. Both soulbeasts ran sword for the same purpose, although mainhand axe should be slightly higher dps considering the short phase length. Casting "Sic 'Em!" on Skorvald at max range on the fourth island before p2 gets the cooldown rolling faster for some partial uptime in p3. Firebrand abused tome utility on the islands to sustain frost spirit and dps the third add without dodging. Mantra management was really crucial here due to the lack of boon prestack. Since you do not need that much alacrity on this boss and we would otherwise run short on might, the renegade took Lasting legacy instead of Righteous Rebel after an RR precast, which also yields some extra ferocity for his add solo.

    Artsariiv:

Weaver casts an early Lightning Storm on Inscription trait in order to refund cooldown before p3. Both soulbeasts ran severance sigil on longbow as the boss attack timing allows you to proc it at both mid and side. Scepter and sword are both comparable on firebrand but we found the quicker setup time to be advantageous. Positioning firebrand opposite from the group in p3 ensured that everyone receives aegis from mantra. Fast-switching between Mallyx and Ventari stacks resistance to negate weakness from the adds in p1.

    Arkk:

Weaver begins the 10% breakbar phases in fire/air as the standard opener would prevent you from landing fire/fire skills before the boss goes invulnerable. Severance sigil works well here too, so soulbeasts brought it on longbow again. One OWP share was allocated for The Archdiviner rather than doubling up in p3. Renegade can nearly solo the CC on this boss by using special action key to cancel the movement on Surge of the Mists to guarantee all 9 hits.

    Transitions:

Weaver did most of the running due to its abundance of gap-closers like Ride the Lightning, Burning Retreat, and Lightning Flash. Aiming special action key at one of the arches over the "bridge" results in a farther launch than the typical max distance. Porting the group to Artsariiv is made possible by the ranged add solo with longbow on Skorvald which conserves one use of WMPD. The second /GG after Artsariiv allows us to do another portal on the way to Arkk which provides a minor time save on the firebrand's movement whilst recharging mantras.

    Alternative Comps:

Berserker can comfortably replace Weaver for the first add solo on Skorvald (as seen in previous records), and brings comparable mobility for the transitions with greatsword. The other DPS slot can really be anything instead of a second soulbeast, even non-traditional choices like dragonhunter (example POV). You can really run anything you want on Artsariiv to achieve the same strategy as long as you do damage to the boss. Arkk is also whatever, but does require some rotation planning because there are so many phases so you need to properly distribute damage according to your composition's unique class cooldowns.

    Condition and Power Difference

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 12:09 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I've seen a lot of builds being either condition damage or power. But what exactly is the difference between these two? As far as I know there is no physical or magic damage in the game and I am kinda confused now.

Do different weapon skill sets scale better with power/condition? Like a torch having more skills that have effects like burning and greatswords skills on the other hand scale more with raw power? Or am I understanding this wrong?

    Thanks for the help!
