For anyone using d912pxy and the Ice reaver cape

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 03:54 AM PDT

d912pxy currently breaks the ice reaver cape causing it to not show half the dyes and appear almost completely black. This can be fixed by doing the following:

    1. Go to gw2 directory/d912pxy/shaders, open common.hlsi with notepad or sth, search for #define dx9_pow(a,b) pow(abs(a), b) and replace it with #define dx9_pow(a,b) ((a == 0) && (b == 0)) ? 0 : pow(abs(a), b)

    2. Go to gw2 directory/d912pxy/pck and delete the "latest.pck" file.

Feel free to let me know if this breaks anything so I can edit the post.

PSA: You don't have to use your lvl 80 boost or even BE lvl 80 to get a raptor - ask someone else that has done the PoF story to redo the raptor chapter, and tag along. You'll get yours unlocked!

    Posted: 23 Aug 2020 12:02 PM PDT

TLDR; I see lots of new players asking about getting started and unlocking raptor. Many people suggest lvl 80 boost to get raptor, then start fresh with a new lvl 1. BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO WASTE YOUR BOOST OR BE LEVEL 80. Ask someone else to redo their own raptor story chapter, and tag along. You'll unlock your raptor!

    -----

I've been seeing a lot of new/returning player posts on Facebook, forums, reddit lately, and I see lots of people asking about how best to get started. Unsurprisingly, most comments say something about how they should get their raptor ASAP, in order to make their leveling experience more pleasant.

Many of these suggestions tell the person to use their 80 boost, get the raptor, and then make a new lvl 1 and level normally the first time. While I agree with recommending a fresh start to leveling, rather than confusing yourself with a lvl 80 right away, YOU DON'T NEED TO WASTE YOUR BOOST.

Ask for help with the raptor story quest by either using /say chat in populated areas like the main cities, or /map chat wherever. There are often veteran people that would be happy to help you unlock your raptor.

Just ask them to restart their PoF raptor chapter, and tag along. When the mission ends, you'll have your raptor unlocked just for joining them in their story!

(Edit: You must own PoF to be able to unlock a raptor.)

Boss Rush Workout - Day 6 - Vigor (Finale)

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 06:56 AM PDT

Professor Courage Minimoose from the Asuran College of Statics here to issue the final Boss Rush Workout routine. Yesterday was the first day I advertised the squad in World Bosses LFG and that's when things went a little crazy. Now I'm not naive enough to think all 50 people were there to workout and maybe it was because I was the only public Boss Rush squad in that time frame. . . but holy moly we had an army of workout buddies. Tonight will be the finale of all our hard work so prepare yourselves! Keep an eye out for the Pink Commander and/or show your support by activating your Pink tag or wearing pink! If you'd like to join me today or say hello feel free to contact at Nythious.3284. The Minimoose workout squad will start around 2:30PM EST (1430) and we'll continue getting swole until just after 6PM EST (1800). I'll be in Lion's Arch around 2:00PM EST (1400) with my Pink tag up getting hydrated and preparing!

Yesterday's theme was "Regeneration" and it was a refreshing change of pace. Today we are going to finish up with a little power and "Vigor". The Vigor themed workout will help build muscle in your biceps, triceps, and legs. Today you need to grab yourself a towel and get ready to fire up those guns. Please scale these numbers to your fitness level, stay hydrated, and even if you don't do the workout make sure to get up and move around every hour.

Easy options are designed for those with low mobility, just getting started in their exercise routines, or have an injury which restricts movement.

    1. Dragons - 10-20 Towel Bicep Curls (difficulty is up to you!)
      1. Easy/Intermediate/Hard - Bicep Curls
    2. Elementals - 10-20 Towel Tricep Extensions and Hammer Curl (difficulty is up to you! Reps are per arm so 20-40 total.)
      1. Easy/Intermediate/Hard - Tricep Extension
    3. Other - 10-20 Lunges (Thank you again Mrs. Minimoose for modeling the moves I struggle with!)
      1. Easy - Half Lunge
      2. Easy/Intermediate (Bad Knees) - Back Lunge (difficulty based on knee depth)
      3. Intermediate - Lunge
      4. Hard - Back Lunge to High Knee
    4. If multiple boss encounters without a break stack 5 of each exercise and add 5 for current boss type. (e.g. Admiral+Karka and waiting in Maelstrom do 10 Bicep Curls, 15 Tricep Extensions, and 10 Lunges)
    5. Bonus Kittyjacks

Thank you to all my workout buddies and all the amazing people who are making this such a positive experience for me. It truly has meant a lot.

    Statistically yours,

    Professor Minimoose

    College of Statics

PS. Tomorrow I will post a final compilation with a little guidance on how to convert each day into a full workout. Please show your love with a little upvote! I promise the workout spam stops tomorrow.

The Weekly Map Recap, Week 23 - Frostgorge Sound

    Posted: 23 Aug 2020 12:04 PM PDT

Welcome to the Weekly Map Recap, a series where we look back at one map in the game each week. We'll look with a critical eye at how each map represents its theme, proves faithful to its lore, and implements its design. We'll see how effective its gameplay is, whether the art holds up, and the forecast for the map's long term retention. With 52 maps to date, it'll be quite the journey!

Links to the previous entries in a reply at the bottom!

Also, before we get to the recap, you should know that I'm currently conducting a survey on map preference. I'm currently still accepting responses - and I'll be publishing the results in a Weekly Map Recap Special article. Get in those responses while you still can!

    23 of 52 - Frostgorge Sound - Level 70-80

Frostgorge Sound caught a lot of folks by surprise, on release. See, we had seen this concept art - it had been part of the pre-release build up going back to a series of videos from Gamescom in 2010. The kodan sanctuaries were seen in-engine in videos as early as 2009. But we didn't know that there was a whole end-game map built around it. Or how strong it would be.

In interviews, Frostgorge Sound has been held up as an example of the close collaboration between the concept artists, environmental artists, and gameplay designers. This is one of the few maps that we know came about directly as a result of the concept art: the iceberg cities looked so cool to everyone that they came up with the Kodan just to populate them. Frostgorge Sound followed.

This is our first map that touches 80! Get used to it - every map is going to be level 80 until the end of the series. Frostgorge Sound was, on release, the furthest north we could go in the game world.

    Theme/Concept - 8/10

This map is all about the hunt for refuge. The kodan and the quaggan are all refugees, fleeing Jormag. We join the map in the middle of a further push by the Elder Dragon's forces: Honor of the Waves is sinking, a Claw is advancing, and the quaggan are pulling together into the last of their villages. Even the geography of the map itself - the crack that led the sea to flood into the Shiverpeaks - has been created by the rise of Jormag. If Orr is all about conquering and advancing, then Frostgorge Sound is all about retreating and trying to hold the line. We're not winning on this map. That introduces some really cool drama.

    Lore - 9/10

Frostgorge has a surprising amount of lore - most of it for the kodan and quaggan themselves.

There is some stuff from GW1: this map was part of the early parts of the Prophecies campaign. See, after the Searing and the destruction of Ascalon, the player escorted the refugee Ascalonians over the Shiverpeaks - and one of the only outposts in that area was Yak's Bend. It's a fairly recognizable today, which is fun - though occupied by norn instead of dwarves. We also have the Iron Horse Mines - an area occupied by the evil Stone Summit in the first game, now underwater beneath the ice.

For the kodan and quaggan though, this map is a gold mine. This is great stuff, as these races are two of the most interesting in GW2's roster. There are still those who advocate for kodan as a playable race. On this map, we have lore books in the sanctuaries, plenty of conversations, and a great deal about the kodan's philosophy. They've always been fascinating in their sense of superiority - perhaps earned.

For the quaggan, there are no less than four settlements in Frostgorge Sound - and the quaggan games. We get lore about the society of the northern quaggan, and their physiology. We learn that they literally cannot travel further south - the warmer water will cause them to sicken and die. For them, this is their last stand. The village of Orsippus, founded by refugees from many villages, contains perhaps the largest quaggan building in the game.

    Design - 7/10

'Wait a second,' you might be saying. 'A map about retreating and holding the line for non-human races with a dragon lieutenant world boss? Haven't we already had that?'

You would be right! Frostgorge Sound has a lot in common with Sparkfly Fen, even down to the abundance of underwater content on the western side of the map. Is this intentional? Almost certainly not, but it makes a fun observation regardless.

This map is a bit hard to pin down, in terms of overall design. Let's start with overall structure. The map is bisected by an invisible line running from the NE corner to the SW. North of that line, the map contains the Sound itself - the sanctuaries, the underwater villages, etc. South of that line is all on land, with various Pact camps, the Sons of Svanir, and a couple other camps.

In general, the map was a challenge to traverse before mounts. Like the more recent northern half of Drizzlewood Coast, the environmental design and art is built around the idea of long vertical cuts in the landscape: mimicking real world glacial ravines. So in the southeast of the map, we've got a number of these vertical 'slices' of land in between large mountains.

The northwest is similar, in that there are the same slices - they're just underwater. This map contains the deepest underwater content in the game. It has a fabulous feeling of really exploring the depths - with the reward of quaggan lanterns and villages at the bottom.

Up above the waves, the sanctuaries are fantastic landmarks - you can't miss them. They also really do feel safe - resting on Blue Ice Shining, with the kodan patrolling around you, is a great feeling.

This map contains three meta events, more than normal, though they're generally pretty short chains. One of those is the world boss, the Claw of Jormag. Frostgorge has notably fewer events than an Orr map - 58 possible events, as opposed to over 100 for some Orrian maps.

We have some fun exploration pieces on this map - a strong jumping puzzle and minidungeon.

    Gameplay - 7/10

Frostgorge is a great example of a 'traditional' vanilla endgame GW2 map. It has renown hearts and smaller meta-events at the same time as end-game rewards (icy runestones) and map-specific weapons (corrupted). It is very much an exploration style map, and not a meta map, but it does have a world boss. In that sense, it reflects a map design structure that presages what we'll get in LWS3 and PoF.

Overall, it's fun for what it is. It's definitely aged - while Orr maps and other world bosses have received major post-launch updates, Frostgorge hasn't received any major touch-ups. This is especially noticeable for the Claw, given that it is such a required piece of content for end-game Guild Wars 2 - those runestones aren't going to unlock themselves. While it did receive a small update adding the second phase - after the wings are shot off - it's definitely not on par with the Tequatl or Shatterer updates, in either gameplay or rewards.

But it's still a sterling example of the best the game had to offer at launch. The enemies are tough (high level dredge are disgusting), the environments are gorgeous, and there are unique rewards, even if they are limited. In a world before Dry Top or Heart of Thorns, that was enough.

    Art - 10/10

This is probably where Frostgorge shines the most. Again, this map was built around some of the coolest concept art produced before release. There are few environments in this game - even two expansions later - that look better than kodan sanctuaries. Add onto that enormous quaggan towns lit by floating lanterns, hiding in towering kelp forests, and you've got a fantastic recipe.

Some of the smaller, overlooked environments on this map also look astonishing. The southwestern mines, overgrown with frost, are a standout. The underwater ruins of the Iron Horse Mine are appropriately spooky. The Claw fight, despite its age and lack of updates, still looks fantastic and feels appropriately cinematic.

    Long Term/Retention - 8/10

This map has a strong, stable population. The Claw is a popular world boss, with a number of achievements and such. Icy runestones, unlocked by that event, are not just required for legendaries, but numerous end-game crafting recipes. The corrupted weapons, as well, are one of the few vanilla rewards which still hold interest. There's also a treasure hunter achievement on this map.

    Overall - 8/10

Kodan are rad, their iceberg cities are rad, and Frostgorge Sound is similarly rad. Like with Straits of Devastation, tolerance for underwater combat can really open this map up. The southwest corner is often overlooked, but is also cool. There's a world boss which is still undertuned, some map-specific rewards, and even access to a living world map. Frostgorge Sound is one of the strongest vanilla maps.

    --------------------------------

That's it for today! Next week, it's back to Orr for Malchor's Leap.

What do you think of today's map? Any fond memories, or strong complaints? How well do you think this map stands up in comparison to all the others?

    Don't forget that survey!

Best inventory bag setup for casual player?

Been playing since 2012 on and off, and I have never ever taken any notice to the different kinds of bags in the game. On my Main I got 7 bags in total, all 18 slots mithril bags, but my inventory is just such a mess. What is your preferred setup when it comes to bags, and for 7 bags lots what would be it?

Queen's Gauntlet, All Bosses All Gambits

    Posted: 23 Aug 2020 11:59 AM PDT

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8UYqK0DG9M

After doing Turai with full gambits last year I kinda wanted to finish the rest of the gauntlet in such manner but didn't have the time or patience to farm that many tickets so here we are this year. I went power herald because it is my favorite build and I play it anywhere i can get away with it, no clue whether this is actually possible on all classes as some of the gambit+boss combinations are very rough.

Anet please overhaul the gauntlet reward system to make it at least somewhat profitable with gambits as currently it's a straight up gold sink yet its the best pve content in the game in my opinion.

Also sorry i had to turn my graphics down quite a lot at times to get decent fps in the pavillion
