Summary of Today's Guild Chat for Episode 4 (SPOILERS)

    Posted: 24 Jul 2020 12:54 PM PDT

Hi guys here is a summary of today's Guild Chat incase you missed it. I was typing as they were talking so let me know if I missed something or misinterpreted something.

    *WARNING! SPOILERS BELOW!*

    • Assault of the Frost Citadel
    • The northern half of map now accessible via Wolf's Crossing
    • Must complete Episode 3 meta prior to starting episode 4 meta, which turns into one big meta. -Tweaked some numbers in episode 3 meta, it is essentially quicker to finish and faster to gain participation.
    • We storm across Wolf's Crossing, split into different groups, and seize different sectors by defeating different Dominion Tribunes.
    • Goals: Keep WvW feel but evolve it with a cinematic/climatic moment. (This is the climax for the story essentially.) Also want it to feel rewarding.
    • Frost Citadel is heavily fortified, especially with the help of a certain elder dragon. Wanted to give players the feeling of seizing a Charr Legion Citadel.
    • Claw of Jormag: This version is different with unique mechanics. Example: Players first interact within a 'roost' type area and the Claw is attacking from afar while sitting on spires. Players have to build cannons to blow the Claw off the spires.
    • Development: This is the first "Moving Prop Boss", Drakarr was a bunch of different separate bosses with artwork/transitions in between each phase. (Props are considered types of assets with collision properties i.e. tents, walls, furniture, etc.)
    • Phase 1: Roost area, Phase 2: Falls and gets half-buried and fight near a ravine/cliff edge. One of the signature moves is to knock players back with a 'wind' attack to knock players off. Players can hide behind boulders. Players get a 'grizzly fate' being blown into the ??Blood?? of Jormag below?? Seemed like this was a spoiler and they stumbled over it quickly.
    • Devs describe it as a 'mini-dungeon' & want it to feel like your accomplishing something. It was challenging to make it rewarding without making it feel too time-consuming.
    • This Claw is smarter than the original Claw. Described as 'cheeky'.
    • Outside the Citadel is very much like WVW, inside the citadel is more like an instance-raid feel to it.
    • Wanted players to have a feel of 'wrecking stuff up' inside the Citadel, lots of punching of baddies and their shiny toys.
    • This took quite a few iterations: If the first phase of the Claw encounter lasted too long, players would get bored, but the devs didn't want it to be too short and lose the satisfaction of going to the next phase. Didn't want just ambient adds to fight or repeating the same actions over and over again.
    • Map resets while also making sense, the end result is 'pretty damn cool' according to the devs.
    • Devs described it as a lot of cool content and different from what they usually do, described it as difficult but fun to work on due to COVID/quarantine.

    • Rubi Bayer, Host (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!)
    • Nick Hernandez, Game Designer
    • Kirk Willford, Team Lead

Ways to increase the amount of players

    Posted: 24 Jul 2020 08:34 PM PDT

    Hi!

I am a huge fan of the MMORPG genre and the Guild Wars franchise in particular. I have played Guild Wars since launch and the same applies to Guild Wars 2.

I have played MMORPGs since 2001 and have seen many of my favourites close down.

I believe ArenaNet is the best and most innovative developer for the genre.

Guild Wars 2 and ArenaNet deserve to be the most financially successful game and developer in the genre. I have played World of Warcraft since launch and I am playing both currently. The amount of bugs in newbie zones is a joke. Where is Blizzard's QA team and what are they up to, only focusing on Shadowlands? I have played Final Fantasy XIV and sure, the story in Shadowbringers is good, but there are many problems in the game. Having to slog through the entire story to get to the good parts is a joke.

I have played every single MMORPG you can think of and Guild Wars 2 is the best, no question, no bias. I haved played other MMORPGs longer, WoW and Tibia to name a few. Still, GW2 is the king of innovation.

Let's gather ideas and discuss how more people can join our amazing community.

    Here are my three suggestions

    1. Launch on Steam, Epic Games, Origin, other popular game services. I know that Steam, Epic and EA take a cut of the profit, but it may be worth it, to reach out to millions.

Star Wars the Old Republic just launched on Steam and is peaking with tons of new players. Lots of FFXIV's and ESO's players are on Steam. The original Guild Wars is on Steam so ANet is not new to the concept. People on Steam and gamers in general love free games.

Most I meet haven't heard of or do not know of GW2. It is a shame.. Many do not know that GW2 is free. It is sad..

    1. Develop a Recruit a friend system. WoW, FFXIV, Rift, Tibia and other games have had huge success with such systems and there is no drawback. Give some in-game rewards to the recruiter and the one being recruited. People love bonus rewards. In WoW people recruit themselves to get bonus rewards for themselves.

    2. Develop a system to revive lost players. Give rewards to the player who revive the player who has quit previously and to the revived player.

Over to you! What are your suggestions? Let's spread the word and make the best MMORPG, the most popular. We love ANet and ANet loves the community.

    Take care all! :)

Festival of the four winds soon

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 01:06 AM PDT

It's going to be Festival of the four winds soon and I would like some advice.

I'm still a new player and I didn't know that with Dragon Bash you could earn Dragon Coffers again everyday by doing the pinata smash and the beetle race. I thought you could only do that once. So I ''lostout'' on a lot of coffers because of this.

Now with the new festival I want to be prepared. What activities were quick and easy to do before and gave you nice rewards? I have read on the wiki that this four winds works with favor, with which you can buy stuff from the store (sorta like the Zhaitaffy then?). But the favor itself has no other uses than that. There are coffers that you can earn but they can't be sold or traded, is that correct?

To be (at first sight) it looks like a whole lot less than Dragon Bash, with the free daily Zhaitaffy which can be sold, the amount of Dragon Coffers from playing in the arena. But maybe I'm missing something.

Guild Chat: A New Claw of Jormag - Summary

    Posted: 24 Jul 2020 12:54 PM PDT

This post contains spoilers for the upcoming episode; particularly the meta and boss.

Here is a link to the youtube video: [LINK]

    • The map expands to the north, and the new meta is an extension from the meta in the southern half of the map, what we have now. We will have to complete the southern meta to continue forth into the northern meta.
    • Numbers will be tweaked to allow the southern meta to be completed faster. You will get participation faster as well. Dev called it a 'super-meta' (not as an official term I think) but do not want it to be exceedingly long. (Though it looks like it will be longer than other metas.)
    • The northern meta will start out similar to the southern meta, in that you capture areas. The intended WvW feel is not abandoned. (In the northern half of the map, unlike the southern half, you cannot lose areas to the enemy.) It is not exactly the same, however, as they didn't want it to feel repetitive.
    • The meta will lead up to the assault on the frost citadel, following which will be a boss battle against the new Claw of Jormag.
    • The new Claw will be the first moving prop boss in the game. (As opposed to immobile prop-bosses like the world bosses, or many prop-bosses with one health bar like Drakkar.)
    • Following the assault on the frost citadel, you go out onto the Claw's roost/sanctuary area. The first phase of the boss fight involves the Claw flying around on spires, and you need to get it down. Players will need to build cannons with scrap.
    • The pacing and mechanics of particularly the first phase of the boss fight took a lot of changes and iterations to make it feel interesting, and not too long. It seems like it will involve a lot of different mechanics that might not be consistent for every time you fight the Claw.
    • It is described as seeming much smarter than the previous Claw, as it uses its wings to its advantage. At times it even seems cheeky.
    • The Claw seems to have a presence prior to the boss battle with it, around the map during the meta.
    • There will be a lot of punching in this episode; particularly players being able to destroy the environment of the citadel as part of the assault. (Referencing the destruction of walls and doors in WvW.)
    • Devs are both excited and terrified.
    • Happy birthday Ruby!

If I missed anything let me know. At some point I was trying to type and listen at the same time and so I might've skipped over some points.
