Holy Spear Flesh Golem Combo Build - Off Meta Wednesday (Video + Image In Post)

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 04:08 PM PDT

Like throwing spears? Like doing loads of AoE damage that is not a Mesmer, Sin, or Derv? Love taking your anger out on the undead? This is the build for you. It also is mostly meant, and works better, for playing with your friends.

So this was a team comp idea I have toyed with on and off for years, knowing it worked in theory but never cared to really sit down and clean it up, and since I have quit playing really I thought I would just share the bare bones of this and discuss some things I learned last few days.

There are about 3 different variations to how this could go. The first being you with your heroes, which is probably not that good, but completely doable and can be fun still. The second being with you and your friends, maybe a couple of heroes, but better coordination allowing better builds and spikes. The third being a full team of players really well coordinated.

So the general idea consists of people who can throw Holy Spear constantly, specifically on hostile minions who are in the middle of all the enemies you want to kill for loads of armor ignoring AoE damage. Now as I stated, results may vary depending on the players, but without too much work, a group of friends can push through even some HM content using this while having fun. The trick is making sure there is always hostile minions. Here is the rough build idea: https://imgur.com/a/MhyppiV

Along with the image I posted above, here is a short clip of just me and a hero toying with it in Isle of the Nameless: https://youtu.be/iRTrvAJna3U

Build code for you to read the skills in-game:

    • Tank: OwZAMHQdGAIWAAAAAg6M
    • Spear Thrower: OQGhUyUoIAAAAAAAgJ2VhqI
    • Minion Maker: OANCYcx0RFQjegC4XwVALBWA
    • Rit Support: OASAMeTAAAAAgxAAAgJB

To break it down, you would want:

A tank to run in first to grab a lot of the initial aggro, and if a human player, to ball it up. If you are not using a tank player, simply just engaging and letting the minions run in first is how you would approach that. With a player, however, if you are just out for fun, grabbing everything and sort of getting it together, and providing slows to keep enemies where they are with the use of a ward or a similar alternative, and using Swap on a Flesh Golem can be very impactful for this.

The Holy Spear throwers for the damage. They are going to want to keep their attack speed and adrenaline gain at a maximum. To make sure Holy Spear can be used in succession without having to do extra auto attacks they will need to maintain For Great Justice as long as they can, as well as a skill I will mention later. Their job will be to constantly be targeting hostile minions. Until a minion

The minion suppliers for the Holy Spear throwers. These Necromancers will be using Flesh Golems for 2 really big reasons. One being they are the tankiest minion to allow taking more hits, and also because they leave a corpse behind which enables the use of Malign Intervention, as this hex cannot be cast on normal minions. I know you might be thinking Jagged Bones would be great, but you would sadly be wrong. This is because minions with enchantments who turn hostile will keep them but will not trigger their effects or benefit from any of the effects. However, hexes will stay consistent and trigger through the change of allied to hostile, etc. Shambling Horrors will also be used since they bring another minion after death passively which is great. Maybe you are also wondering how they become hostile, and the answer to that is the very widely known combo of Verata's Aura which causes all undead you control to turn masterless when it ends, and Contemplation of Purity which forcefully removes all of your enchantments. Thus, after your minions are in the enemy's faces through whatever method chosen, you can force them to become hostile, and the spears will start flying. With heroes, they will spam Malign Intervention on everything so the whole Flesh Golem thing is probably not as crucial there, but it is still a nice one to have. With players, as I mentioned all of this is better since you will not need to micro and a hundred other reasons, you will want to use Verata's Gaze. The trick with this skill is if a hostile minion has 3 Holy Spears in the air flying at it, and the Necro uses this skill to take back control of the minion that is about to be hit such as a flesh golem, all the spears will hit, deal NO damage to the minion, BUT still trigger the AoE effect, therefore preserving your minion which can make some really crazy combos with players.

Then you have a Ritualist, maybe it can be something else, but having more ways to deal AoE damage, especially when there are not minions, is always going to be important to get through groups. Splinter Weapon is huge for this along with Ancestors' Rage. Another crucial skill somewhere needing to be fit in is Dark Fury. Like I mentioned earlier, this is the other skill the Holy Spear players will need to make sure their attack can be spammed. It needs a lot of maintaining but it allows the DPS to be increased by a lot.

Lastly, you will probably want some form of support. Maybe a healer, something to prot the team such as an ST or maybe one of the Paragons to go Imba, maybe you only want 2 spear throwers to open another slot to allow more support, etc. All up to you guys, as this team comp is not a final thing. Any way you approach it with playstyle will change that.

Anyways, hope you all find this interesting, maybe even give it a shot yourself, as I really enjoyed toying with this concept and glad to finally just put it out there. Have a good day and stay safe out there.

I was away for a long tume and just want to start a fresh char

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 08:15 AM PDT

I got everything on max lvl gear and so on but just want to start all over again. Last time i really played was in like 2013?!

I want to start a warrior / paragon but cant even find videos in that combination. Is it that bad?

I love being a buffer and both classes have really nice party buffs for mana and adrenalin

And other question: i started in factions. What is the fastest way to unlock paragon as secondary class? I am totally out of the game ;)

4x Ele team (hero) build advice

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 02:50 PM PDT

My main is an Ele and I've recently been playing a 7 hero build that consisted of 2x BiP Resto (N/Rt), 1x MM (N/P), 1x Spirit Spammer (Rt), 2x ESurge (Me) and then (because I don't have Zei Ri yet) 1x Air Ele with myself also being an Air build.

I've been thinking about removing the 2x ESurges and replacing with 2x Ele and having each Ele master 1 element - mostly for fun and also because I find ESurge a bit OP and boring. What skills do you think complement each other across the elements? These are the 4 builds I've been trialing:

Air (me) : Teinai's Wind, Invoke Lightning, Arc Lightning, Lightning Strike, Lightning Orb, Aura of Rest and Res (FomF)

Earth: Sandstorm, Obs Flame, Stone Daggers, Teinai's Crystals, Magnetic Aura, Melee Ward, Weakness Ward, Aura of Resto

Fire: Glyph of Lesser Energy, Rodgort's Inv, Mark of Rodgort, Incend Bonds, Searing Flames, Glowing Gaze, Aura, Res (FomF)

Water: Maelstrom, Ice Spikes, Deep Freeze, Steam, Swirling Aura, Ward Against Harm, Aura, Res (FomF)

I've tried to combine skills that work with each other: Steam, Teinai's Wind/Crystals and also balance raw damage with support, so I added Wards, Swirling Aura, Magnetic Aura, etc. It's working quite well, we deal a lot of damage very quickly, especially AoE with the combo of water slowing enemies down and for Sandstorm but I want to improve it further and am not sure where.

What skills do you think are redundant and what would you replace them with?

    gold farming in 2020?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 03:39 PM PDT

How do you make gold in 2020 now a days? Last time I played was 2012 so im assuming things have changed since then. I've been having an itch to play gw1 again and finally get obby armor and the vanquisher titles.

Is feather farming still a thing? I used to feather farm back in the day but im not sure if theres an economy for that.

If you could make one small bug fix / tweak to Guild Wars, what would it be?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 01:09 PM PDT

Interested in other people's peeves, curiosities, or other annoyances to small parts of guild wars.

I think my biggest one is I really like doing the daily White Mantle Wanted quests, but the reward disparity is huge. Some days is 10(NM)/15(HM) and the next day an equally annoying boss will be 3(NM)/4(HM). I wish they were more evened out.
