    Research: farming and gold-making in GW2

    Hey folks,

    I want to present you with my GW2 gold-making and farming spreadsheet. I consider myself a "data scientist" and love to do this kind of work, so everything you see is made with passion and diligence.

    It took me a few thousand hours (and I continue to work on all the datasets) to gather data and accurately calculate results for the activities on the sheet. We all know way too little about the ins and outs of gold-farming methods. In most sources, such as YouTube videos on alt-parking, I only saw people estimating values and it made me interested in what the actual average values are.

    Another thing that motivated me to do this is the fact that some popular sites such as the GW2 wiki or gw2efficiency do not necessarily unify certain relevant data. For example, while the wiki offers a lot of information, it doesn't show profit per bag/container opening, the value of each currency etc., while gw2efficiency's calculations aren't quite up do date at all times (which is reasonable given the extremely broad scope of their work). The same goes for new currencies, bags and containers. For example, the category "karma conversion" compares even new and less known methods of converting your karma into gold.

    The spreadsheet consists of:

    - 12 farmtrains (only farmtrains run by the [fast] farming community, occasionally some other individuals/communities from the EU server)

    - 27 alt-parking spots

    - 34 karmic harvesting tool data & best tools for every node

    - 93 bags/containers (core Tyria, HoT, PoF, festivals, gizmos, converter bags, trade crates, buried treasure)

    - 14 currency conversions with 100+ conversion methods (ascended junk, charged quartz crystals, Eitrite ingots, eternal ice shards, Gaeting crystals, karma, laurels, luck, Magnetite shards, spirit shards, SAB Bauble Bubbles, trade contracts, UM, VM)

    - 100+ salvageables & unid gear data

    - full home instance gathering data

    - Event Lists from HoT, PoF, LS4 & Icebrood Saga

    Most of the time I work on the spreadsheet alone, so it would be nice to receive some feedback or suggestions!

    TL;DR: I created a spreadsheet for all kinds of calculations regarding farming and gold-making in GW2, containing data about alt-parking, currency conversions, bags, salvaging, harvesting tools, nodes, different approaches to gold-making etc.

    Account problems

    I bought gw2 before it released and was playing from day 1 but then moved on from the game after around a year. Last August I returned to the game and intended to join my friend on a different server (on an eu server, moving to us) However I found that I could not transfer my account and never received any explanation in game as to why this was. Around this same time I also found that I was unable to make any sales through the black lion trading company. I was able to buy items but not sell. I made a ticket at the time and had a series of emails between myself and support but no solution was found.

    After a few months life got busy and I had to leave the game for a while. Upon returning I have found I still have the same issues and support have again not been able to find a solution to the issue.

    It appears that the problem is specifically with my account but nothing appears wrong to them.

    Does anyone have any idea as to why this could be or has anyone ever ran in to the same issue? At this point I'm getting pretty annoyed with not being able to play with my friends or use a pretty important part of the game and clutching at straws for a solution.

    Hi guys, im on the on way of finishing my skyscale collection but I discovered that there is so many grind items needed to finish it. I mean all currencies from season 4. Its a lot of grinding! Is there any way to obtain it faster ?? I hate things like that :(

    Elite Specializations you would like to see.

    I've been thinking about this lately, but as much as I love GW2, it needs some things to reinvigorate and bring more life to the game, we may be really "early" into Icebrood Saga, but if the idea was to give us expansion like content in a living world season.

    And the upcoming Visions of the Past update seems like a large step in that direction (We'll see if it actually ends up being a large step when it releases though) but I wanted to make a thread discussing what the game needs in terms of features or added content that should be brought forward into GW2.

    I'm gonna go with new Elite Specializations as the topic for this overall thread though, as much as the Path of Fire ones are fun, given release cadence from Heart of Thorns, we should be in Expansion content right now, so new Elite Specs would be ideal right now, and maybe we'll end up seeing them later in the season, but for now it would bring people back and reinvigorate the game.

    But I gotta ask, what kind of elite specs would you all like to see? Personally I'd like to see a Longbow Thief or Rifle/Pistol Necromancer. I think the general idea of those would be fun.

    Help me pick a main?

    Hey yall, I just recently jumped back into the game and haven't settled on a class to main. I bought the expansions and jumped right in but I'm having difficulty deciding on what to actually play. I generally play either the tankiest of tanks or the most useful (utility) healer in any mmo I play but I'm not sure which direction to go and I know they are doing a ton of balancing right now. Halp me pl0x!?

    Edit: mainly play PVE but I'm sure I'll venture into WvW and ladders eventually.

    Question about Electric Wyvern/Smokescale

    Sometimes when we do guild races or other content in the game we use the lightning and smoke combo fields of the Electric Wyvern/Smokescale to stack swiftness/invisibility with blast finishers. Everytime we do this i get annoyed by the fact that either of the pet seems to walk to an arbitrary location before dropping their aoe. Why don't they just use the F2 skill right where they stay at the moment of pressing the key?

    Is there any trick on how to get them to stand still?
