Let's face it: we need a proper new, full expansion.

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 08:17 PM PST

So we are 3 episodes into the new saga/season, or 2 episodes and a prologue. So far we have yet to see these "expansion like features" and we are simply following on the same model from previous seasons; a new map, some masteries and new weapon sets etc. There is no sign of what your average player would consider an expansion feature. No new classes, races, elite specs, or new mechanic like Mounts or gliding. (Cooking 500 is not an expansion feature no matter what ANet says.) It's possible that they "MAY" come in the later half of the saga, but the expectation is bleak.

Concurrently, Anet have had some rather stark results for the last quarter so the question is where do they go now. It cannot be denied that HOT and POF gave them a spike in sales. Moreover, they gave the game a chance to be reviewed again by online and print based gaming magazines and websites. The Saga does not do that because it's so short and simply a drip feed continuation of every living story they have done. Remember the expansions we have had previously were in ADDITION to living story. Now we just have story/saga.

So where does the game go from here? I've been reading the history of WOW, a game I used to play a lot. I know Anet does not have the resources of Blizzard, but discovering that they are now on their EIGHTH expansion makes for sobering reading. Not only that but the level of content that comes with these expansions makes your eyes water in comparison to what we get.

It's clear they are working on another game which of course is wise, but GW2 is STILL their main cash cow. What other source of income do they have until they launch new Ip's or other titles? It seems counterproductive to let your main money maker wither in this way. Surely an announcement of something like a full Cantha expansion including a new class, continent and new mechanics in the vein of the old luxon vs Kurzick would spark confidence and life into this game again?

The guild I’m in did a secret valentine gift giveaway where we give gifts to a randomly selected guildie. I actually got my wife (called Lady) and drew her warrior. The Latin means Lady Bubble.

The experience of crafting your first legendary and how it changed over the years -Discussion

    Posted: 14 Feb 2020 05:42 AM PST

Today i visited some older gw2 youtubers (back from 2012/14). Ive watched several videos of them and how they were crafting their legendaries and what took them to do it. Some of them even had help from their guild since wvw was a kind of a big part of crafting a legendary than it is nowdays.

The videos were inspirational, watching someone going trough hard times, grinds for gold , mats and currency, map exploring wvw borderlands , farming karma in Orr or shiverpeaks so they can try and clear out the temple of balthazar to buy obsidian shards, suffering when they get no mystic clovers, trying so hard to get a precursor from the mystic toilet...
But in the very end when they finally crafted their legendary weapon it felt special to them, and it felt special to people around them since legendary weapons were rare back in the day.

    ***

For many years i always thought about starting to make my first legendary weapon, but for me it had to be special and even tho legendary weapons soon became account bound, i wanted to start and finish crafting a legendary weapon for my main character.

Problem was, i could never figure out which character to main for many many years, and the legendary it self would have to be some sort of a "common" weapon type so i can use it on other profession as well.

Fast forward 4 years..My first legendary was actually The Ascension , a Spvp backpack/glider that was released in 2016.

Thing is, i actually wanted a cool "non cash shop" glider, but turns out it does count as a legendary item for the achievement and the character log in screen medal.

Even tho i was absolutely sure they wouldn't remove the backpack from the game after "the YEAR of ascension" i devided all the achievements and gold/mats across all leagues during the year.

I finally finished crafting it in late december, about less than a few weeks before the last league ended.

In the end, it was a long year ,full of wins and losses, playing with several different "main" characters/professions, and many more rewards via reward tracks, and i finally crafted it in lions arch, people said "GZ" to me, and i went up the LA light house and glided around and took screen shots.

The feeling of a year-long journey ending, along with the year it self was amazing and no other achievement, dungeon, fractal, raid, story step, or wvw fight could compare to it.

    ***

Now days people can follow a collection achievement to craft precursors, they get obsidian shards all over the place, karma can be farmed in millions during wintersday , and there are plenty of ways to get mystic clovers over time as well. WvW exploration is not needed at all, and i dont think you even need badges of honor anymore since gift of battle drops from a reward track.

I know and seen plenty of people who (over 7+ years) crafted multiple, if not ALL legendary weapons, some of them even made 2 of the same type just for the "twice told " title.

    ***

Currently , i do have a main character, but instead of a weapon im slowly working towards a WvW based legendary heavy armor set.

I figured i could get legendary backpack from Spvp, armor from WvW and weapon from PvE.

Still not quite sure which weapon to go for... either kudzu+howler, or eternity. Leaning more towards eternity since its kinda iconic among all other weapons in my eyes.

Please share your legendary crafting stories, and if you could also include the year when it was made

The Essence Manipulation masteries are pretty neat, but they feel too infrequently obtained.

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 03:25 PM PST

I feel like the only time I ever get max stacks is during meta events, either the run-up to Drakkar or during the Raven Shaman defense. Otherwise it seems kind of pointless other than for opening chests? You have to seriously go out of your way to try and farm them, for something that isn't even that huge of a benefit. Just running around trying to do what the map encourages you to do - trials, 20 of each event, etc - never gets you enough to reach 30 stacks.

Maybe it's different if you only zerg events? But I've been doing achievements for a couple days now and there's never been more than 3-4 other people at each event and there's still never enough enemies or mote drops to max your stacks.

    The Tournament Test

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 02:15 PM PST

Just wanted to shout out the tournament test and how (relatively) smooth it was. Definitely felt more like a tournament and less like "play one game". Let's do some critiques:

    1. The time between matches felt way too long, even when the tournament wasn't glitched. It got faster towards the end, but there was more waiting around time than is ideal.
    2. The tournament rewards didn't say what position my team got. Even when standings are working, it would be better to have a "Conglaturations! You got X place!".

Best Ways To Farm Rare Unidentified Gear?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 11:39 PM PST

I've found rare unidentified gear is a pretty good source of income because it sells for a pretty decent price, what are the best ways to farm them? Is it just going events? If so, what maps are the best for farming events for the rare unidentified gear?

Including Strike Mission Achievements as a Required Part of the Zone Meta

    Posted: 14 Feb 2020 06:41 AM PST

For the first time ever, in order to get a zone meta achievement, people are required to get achievements from ten man instanced content. Anet apparently believes that this will encourage people to try raids. My opinion is this will drive more people from the game than get more people to the content Anet wants us to play. It's too heavy handed. It's not a good enough encouragement.

In fact, zone metas have ever been the purview of casual players, who were probably the main people that played Living Story content and stayed in those zones. By adding Strike Missions to the requirement for getting the zone meta Anet has only made me less interested in doing the zone and I find myself wondering why I should go get achievements in there, if I don't want to do strike missions in the first place.

Raiders keep saying raids don't affect people who don't do them. This proves them wrong. This content has been changed to "encourage" people to get into raids. It encourages me to play less.

    Central Tyria Mastery Points

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 10:04 PM PST

Sup /r/Guildwars2 , I've just got back into the game after a while and I'm on a journey to complete the Central Tyria mastery points first and then continue the story into the Heart of Thorns content. A lot of the "base-game" content I do seems to give very little XP, and mastery points seem very sparse outside of map completion/personal story- and I have completed both. What I am asking is, what is the best way to farm XP for Central Tyria Masteries / What are some easy achievements to complete for the Mastery Points themselves? Thanks for any input- like I said, it's been a while since I played. :)

    Edit:
Note, I have completed "Pact Commander", and I am 2/4 through "Legendary Crafting", but the climb is so hard and I'm just looking for efficiency.
