    Updates for Brand-New Players

    Posted: 19 Feb 2020 01:44 PM PST

Came back to Guild Wars 2 again and I still think its amazing and excellent.

    Posted: 19 Feb 2020 09:21 PM PST

Not even ESO can compete with this game even today IMO. And I have played a lot of ESO and well, WOW in my life. I understand ESO is having its Skyrim expansion pretty soon - and to be frank I still load up Skyrim SE with its 4k textures/parrallax and all the bits n bobs ( thats about 40Gb's of mods, guys, a reshade and ENB too and everything overhauled tastefully and cohesively as possible which is very easy to do post 2018/19 since a lot of injections happen and rewrites of code as much as is able in modding) and its an incredible game - but GW2 is right there along side those. I think its better than ESO, hands down. I know people will chime in and crack on about how they don't like X and Y, and they'd be entitled to their opinion, but I can't really find anything to complain about really.

There is something about this game that is just excellent across basically every facet - and it must be said also that my ping is far from perfect in PvP, but hey... . I personally don't think it has a weak point. Yes, it is a finite thing and its only a game and therefore its benefit to oneself is limited by definition, but its an excellent thing. Can only hope they do another expansion at some point above and beyond the story-maps.

There was one fellow who went over GW2's imperfections on youtube just recently but to be fair one can level criticisms against all kinds of things as they please. I have not played the game as much as he has (though I do have a bunch of level 80 toons [9] and most have their respective gear/needed traits). I just have not played it as much as him, but maybe thats the thing because people play some MMO's almost exclusively, much like how eso, wow when I did, or even Skyrim will take up most of my entertainment-game time, but if the only flaw in GW2 is that he's played it too much, then its probably the best MMO, even as that video that person made in it he pointed that out.

I don't think his particular answer is in MMO's or computer games in general as I think said person/people are looking for too much from MMO's and computer games in general, I just think having come back to the game it really hits home how exceptional it is and why on earth its not even more of a thing in the culture of the genre.

Why do people think this is?

The thing for me and I say all facets is no stone unturned - sound to graphics, fashion to game play and combat; something like ESO no offence I think its a great game too, but its hollow compared to Guild Wars 2 (but I have of course seriously enjoyed ESO) gw2 is so filling and engaging [by comparison across a wider range of things; hard to perfectly place such a statement - that: GW2 is simply a cut above and sometimes by a fair margin that the Skyrim update may or may not change; its why I think GW2 should get another expansion when the ideas come to them]. Without singling things out - the Mesmer, Weaver, Thief/Daredevil, mounts, the puzzles/challenges and achievements (the deep layering and combining of such a thing), there's no MMO that can touch GW2 imo.

[Idea] Open world contents are actually fun when only a few people are participating.

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 07:50 AM PST

Is it just me or it actually feels this way? Most meta events/ bounty / world bosses become significantly less interesting as the number of people participating increase. I had this feeling several times before, most strongly while doing the DS meta with only like 30-40 people in total. It actually felt like an adventure! Unlike tagging minimum damage in meta with full map of Zerg and mindless grinding for loot...

The game actually encourages free riding for loot with tons of people doing the same event! Wise/rational people would do it as with the lowest effort you still get the same amount of loot... This is essentially why people feel that open world roaming is too casual and some instanced pve contents suddenly has a sharp difficulty increase which keeps most players away..

The potential solutions are also quite straightforward: either bonus or punishment.

The most doable method would be to decrease the limit of players in certain meta focused maps, to a reasonable amount that players will have to learn and try a little bit to achieve success. For instance, instead of having 50 each lane in DS, 20 each lane would be a good experience for all players... Have more instances, and less instances number. This would, at least to me, make a lot of openworld encounters much more challenging.

The better version of this would be to have elastic reward basing on the number of players participating. Essentially, the amount of the loot the final chest drops is fixed, and is divided equally/according to participation to all players. Before entering a meta map, players can be given a choice of doing it with 30 people, 50 people or 80 people, with decreasing reward. Essentially turning all open world meta maps into big dungeons which require effort and coordination among adventurers.. which is the fun part of the game imo.

I'm pretty sure this has been though of before but just want to see how people think of this and why this might not work...

    Thanks

What by the alchemy did happen to the asura faces? Emoting makes them sad. Even friends did experience the same. Is that a hint? Is Jormag going to win? But seriously... I want my cute asura faces back.

Caledon Forest Sphere. From what I understand, this used to be a part of the actual game. Enjoy.

    are the expansions worth it?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 02:07 AM PST

I played the free version for about a day now and I have to say I LOVE IT.. the animations, graphics, classes and so on are plain amazing but now to the question:

    Are the expansions worth it?

Is it like WoW where you get access to everything or are some tiny little things still behind a paywall?

Is the content great and does it add some new fancy stuff?

Does PvE and PvP get equal treatment from the devs?

Are there regular content updates in the game besides the expansions?

I simple can't afford buying something for 30€ just to never play it again since I'm a student and with 30€ I could literally get food for 2 whole weeks.

So would you say that it's worth it or not?

No don't do the: "well for that money you could go to the cinema and get much less for your money" answer. I can only afford me 1-2 games each year and thats why I need something that I can play for many hours.

    Thanks for the answers!

What is your worst experience in WvW/PvP to date?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2020 03:40 PM PST

It's no secret that we who subject ourselves to suffering competitive modes on the daily have had our fair share of exceptionally rough matches, toxic players, broken builds and so much more to deal with from time to time. I write this after having a small tiff with a player and thought back to some truly ridiculous experiences I've had so far in this game.

Before it begins, I would like to take this moment to say that I do not in any shape or form want any participants to give out any player names or usernames. Keep it anonymous please!

I also would like to speak to the newer players looking to get into competitive modes, it really is not all doom and gloom. Trust me! After six years of Guild Wars 2, these moments are rare and at best, something you look back and laugh at.

So Guild Wars 2 community new and old, give me your worst experience in a competitive mode within Guild Wars 2 to date and what came of it! I have my salted popcorn ready.

Do you have to do the story in order on each character?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2020 08:45 PM PST

So I have completed the base game story on one character, and I was wondering, Do you have to complete the base game on every character? Or can you just use the level scrolls and just skip into the content you're up to date with?

    Sale..?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 02:25 AM PST

    Hi all,

Some random player told me yesterday, that the PoF is on sale currently. I don't think that's the case, the prices seem normal.

Do you have any knowledge, if there will be some kind of sale in the nearest future?

    Thanks

What's the best time to convert golds into gems?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 02:53 AM PST

Hi guys, I have to transfer a large amount of golds to buy and unlock a lot of things I need but I'd like to do it at the most convenient time. I don't understand how the fluctuation works I mean how often does the ratio change? Is there a site who keep track of the price history? Is there a certain time or day where the price is lower? Please help me save something so I don't go broke!
