Okay ANet, King Fu Tea, now Quiznos.. maybe it's time to..

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 05:17 AM PST

Idk, partner with something local in A SINGLE TOWN in a MIDDLE OF NOWHERE? For example, idk, random grocery store in china that has only one shop in the entire country?

Oh, and don't forget that the promo code will be incompatible for chinese servers and only works EU/US, so we actually have to take a flight, buy a cauliflower and go back to whereever we live. That seems like a good deal. One way Poland -> China is $435.56, so that's a fairly good price. Oh, and don't forget the price of cauliflower.

Do you really expect me to pay for visa, take a flight to US, find that Quiznos, buy a sandwich, throw it to trash can and claim my code?

    /rant

    non-rant

So thinking about it from the perspective of player influx from partnering with someone/something

    option 1

If i were to calculate numbers and it had to be food, i would go for something that's only at capital cities in most of EU and just a few states in US. Why that? So it's not too expensive to partner with, and the promo code will actually be obtainable for people overseas.

Even better, if i had an option to choose ANYTHING to partner with, i would rather choose stuff like website with checklist:

    • Retweet something
    • Subscribe to someone's youtube
    • Like some fanpage on facebook
    • Additional points for instagram
    • Subscribe to email newsletter
    • etc etc

And when user has 50% of stuff done, they're eligible to claim a code.

Afterwards, most of the people won't unsubscribe, but you could ofc. This leaves partners with fresh income of people that watch their videos or read/react to tweets.

This is most used method to give out steam codes. Look it up yourself.

    option 2

Another thing that came to my mind for longer term profits for ANet would be referencing system.

Ref a friend, and when he buys gems, you get gems.

This is also commonly used, and this encourages you to invite IRL friends and convince them to buy ingame currency.

This stuff happened A LOT in older mmorpg games or even web browser based online games. And they still happen.

    option 3

Twitch drops. Nothing more to say here.

    option 4

YouTube raffles. Give XYZ codes to XYZ (a bit)famous (not too famous, because they could just say no) youtubers and tell them to give those codes away however they want. That could be a contest or something else. Ofc, tell them to not do shady things with those.

Those Youtubers would get influx of watching people for the raffles so they could actually do that for free. And if ANet were to choose youtuber that didn't play GuildWars 2 at all, he could get hooked in and also hook in his subscribers. Stonks/Profit.

Fake currencies are still a shady business practice, even though there’s gold to gems exchange. Here’s the store without gems. Also: “micro”transactions.

Ascended Cooking - Stocking up on Pile of Enriched Compost for the winter!

Ascended Cooking - Stocking up on Pile of Enriched Compost for the winter!

    Hello all,

As the Halloween event comes to a conclusion (it ends on 11/5 @ 16:00 UTC), there are still plenty of cheap food to go around to compost. I did a bit of digging and these are the results I found to be "best" and I recommend this to anyone interested. My plan is to "stock up" enough Exquisite Extract of Nourishment to use for a year. Halloween is a great source of tons of cheap food. Of course, this number is different for people with different number of garden plots. Therefore, I made a handy-dandy table for those who wants to hoard till next Halloween and some food composting tips for different rarities of nourishment. Enjoy!

    Fine Extract of Nourishment

    Masterwork Extract of Nourishment

    Rare Extract of Nourishment

    • Check TP first for food cheaper than 68c. If more expensive, you have multiple options here depending whether you want to spend karma and/or gold...

    Exotic Extract of Nourishment

EDIT - Fixed some errors and removed Karka Egg Omelet

Not important, but there is an H.P. The Lovecraft story called The Whisperer in Darkness.

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 04:39 PM PST

I'm not saying that episode 1, which is called Whisper in the Dark, is related to this story, but it is curious that developers have chosen that title as well.

Instead of new Elite Specs, what about huntable Skills?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 08:07 AM PST

I've been re-playing Guild Wars 1 lately, because I've wanted more Tyria but I'm really burned out on the direction GW2 has been going (Long before build templates, actually -- my burnout started around July of last year!). I realized that one of the things I loved about GW1 but kind of miss in GW2 is elite skill hunting.

For those that never played GW1, your skills were a lot more like a trading card game -- you only had 8 slots, weapons were basically just "stat sticks" (they had no inherent weapon skills; and only Warrior had skills that were for different weapons iirc), so instead, the variety came in hunting down skills from skill trainers. Elite skills, of which you could have only one in your loadout, came from Bosses.

My thought is that Elite Specs obviously take a LONG time and a LOT of dev effort to work out -- the Spec drastically changes each classes passive / unique mechanic, each one has a totally new skill line, each one has a new weapon (which is basically a new skill line!), and even the lore writers need to get involved now (esp given the complaints about the lack of lore for the HoT elites). They also get new weapon and armor designs, which is a lot of work from the art team... basically, hard work, which Anet probably can't put in right now with how they're running on a skeleton crew.

HOWEVER, I think the idea of adding new skills to existing skill types, lines, and maybe even weapons could work. This isn't to downplay how much work a new skill is -- so much balance testing, bug testing, etc -- but it's still less work than an entire elite spec. There's even a small amount of precedent -- remember when ages ago, Anet actually added a new Healing skill for each class?

The easiest from a backend perspective would probably be new individual skills. Stuff like, again, a new Healing skill, or like, if you're an Engineer, a new Gadget. This could even work with Elite Specs -- I, for one, have wished many times for a new Gyro or Exceed skill.

"What about Revenants?" you say. What if the Revenant could get new skill choices within their existing Legends? So, say, Glint could grant you an alternative new Facet, or Shiro a new assassin skill. You'd still be locked to the skills within your equipped Legends, but this would give the Revenant some much-needed flexibility and variety within those builds.

Then, my thought is that kinda going off Revenants getting new skills within existing, locked lines, why not add a few alternative weapon skills? So, replace Longbow 4 on Ranger with a different ability, still themed to the Longbow, but without the knockback? Again, just a little more variety for what we already have, rather than reinventing the wheel.

These skills could be tied into already existing content. Not nearly as extensive or onerous as the original Collection ideas for Legendary Weapons, but simply small, maybe even singular tasks. Tasks that never take a lot of money and take very little time, but still encourage you to just go Do a Thing. Stuff like "Kill the Shadow Behemoth as a Necromancer" gets you the new skill. Small, but focused. "Track down Modus Sceleris." Elite Skills might take a little more legwork, but, again, not even as much as a regular Collection for a weapon skin... actually, something like the Design Contest skins might even work. No money sinks, just small bits of nice lore attached to existing content, no need for voice acting or anything.

For me, anyway, this would give a nice breath of fresh air, and give some much-needed build variety and shakeups, without the huge changes that Elite Specs necessarily entail. They could even breathe new life into currently underused specs.

    Farming HoT map currency?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 08:05 AM PST

So, I have everything you craft Pharus except the maguuma mastery gift. The only things I'm lacking are the 3 different map currencies and crystal ore.

I've read that some people spam alts thru the storyline but that sounds awful. What would be the next best way to collect these? I'm assuming I'll be doing it solo, judging by the map populations during the hours I'm playing.

ANET, What about some extra Digital Marketing?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 08:04 AM PST

FFXIV has 65 ongoing marketing campaigns on Facebook.

    WoW has 12.

    Black Desert Has 19

Guild Wars 2 has freaking zero. And we are in the middle of a new Living Season.
    Say what?

At least place on randon banner and pay $1 a day. Why is it so hard

PS: You may need a FB account to see the Ad library.

    [PvP][Discussion] Sigil of Agility alternatives

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 05:23 AM PST

With the upcoming removal of Sigil of Agility from PvP, I started looking into alternatives for my Revenant.

I understand the need to remove it, but I still enjoy using it on my revenant.

Keeping track of the 18 sec cd to try and proc it at opportune times either with legend or weapon swap and not waste it at random adds an additional gameplay layer and raises the skillcap a bit imo. If possible, I would like to use a sigil that has a similar feel to it, because I am not a fan of passive or random sigils.

I was curious which Sigils you are planning to use and how this may alter your play style or combos. I am interested in hearing your thoughts for any build, not just Revenant and I hope this will spark some constrcutive discussion.

    PvP Professions

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 07:26 AM PST

If you notice you cannot have more than two of the same profession while queuing up for a match, but once you're in the whole team can change into one class. all necro's for instance or all Guardians. You guys need to make it so that only one profession can be in the match, so only 1 necro, 1 guardian, 1 warrior, etc., this way you can have a fair and balanced match and not be overbalance with too much of one class since Theif can stay pretty much invisible all the time what would prevent a team of 5 to be invisible to the other team thus creating an unfair advantage (you guys really need to get rid of invisibility), something to think about.
