    Copper-fed salvage-o-matic worth it for 800gems?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2019 08:17 AM PST

I salvage ALOT of items and always have problems with my salvage kits (even the mystic salvage kit). The copper has 10% chance of rarer mats + 20% chance of salvaging upgrades. While mystic salvage kit has 25% rarer + 80% upgrades. So mystic is better but has to be replaced at least ones a day lowering my mystic forge stones ALOT. Is the copper cost (3 per use) worth the loss of rarer finds and not having to use my mystic forge to craft the mystic salvage kit?

Best WvW server for new players that give a shit?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2019 06:14 AM PST

Hi. I'm a returning player who quit around LWS2. I also bring two new players with me on my return, and I want their first taste of WvW to be a positive experience. My current server which I won't mention is not compatible with this, I won't detail why.

So, I'm looking for recommendations of a server with these attributes:
    - EU
    - not Full, obvs
    - Mostly English speaking.
    - Most importantly: Above average zerg/pug skill and voice participation.

If such a thing does not exist, then I'd be interested in a server that has WvW guilds that run regular-ish public raids (anyone can join as long as they're in voice and willing to copy a build).

Thanks for reading and for any suggestions.

Are there friendly harpies in this game?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2019 07:03 PM PST

Most sentient races that appear in large numbers as enemies also appear as allied NPCs in some places. Centaurs, dredge, flame legion, etc. I can't recall if this applies to harpies.

Personal Story vs the rest of the plot

    Posted: 18 Nov 2019 06:55 AM PST

    Hi,

I'm a relatively new player. On my main character I'm in the middle of Living World 2 but I wanted to explore different characters and playing styles so recently I created one character for every available race to unlock personal story achievements. It didn't bother me when I was playing my main because I was a little distracted by learning game mechanics but now I see that PS plot is... poor. The writing is sloppy and characters are bland and uninteresting most of the time (omg Logan is bland af, the rest of the DE has some more fire but his main character trait is that he wants to bang the queen). They are introduced so hastly that when I first encountered Trahearne I thought he is just some random sylvari who showed up for few dialogue lines (his introduction was way better in sylvari's story, but still). It was hard to me to get involved with characters. Plotlines were just left unresolved or the ending was vague and unclear (human sister plot, Malyck, traitor in the ministry for humans and so on). I read that some of them are continued later in dungeons or LW but you can't just cut a story and go back to it few years later just like that. Every part needs some closure and summary so it doesn't end so abruptly. For most of the time when playing human, everything was going so fast that I don't really remember any of it. I liked Tybalt and (later) Trahearne or Destiny's Edge characters but even in LW2, which is also quite old, the writing and characters are much more alive. For example, when you go to Eir with Braham to ask her to back you up with Knut she is like "oh let's make ourseleves more comfortable and sit". It's a tiny detail but it was nice to see that she is not there only to say her dialogue and move on. She has some more character, she's having slightly deeper interaction with others. It wasn't necessary to add this, it didn't serve the story in any funcional way. It was just a nice touch to show that this character has some personality, that she is thoughtful and friendly.

My point is - are there any plans to refresh personal story? It stands out from the rest of the game and not in a good way. It's just too rushed and shallow. I love this game so much, mostly for the lore but I had to read tons of wikipedia articles and watch The Herald movies to even understand what are some characters and why.

Or maybe you have different feelings about this? What is your favourite personal story or character?

    Let's talk :)

10 things i hate and love about GW2

    Posted: 17 Nov 2019 09:42 AM PST

Hi guys. I have been playing with GW2 since Hot release and i thought it would be fun to share my experiences with the game. Maybe you ar on a similar opinion So i used to be a wow and wildstar player but after a while i switched to gw2. Since then i have a constant love – hate relationship with the game. So here are the TOP 10 things i hate and love about Guild Wars 2.

    10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT GW2:

    1.-The reward system

I play with a lot of games and i experienced a lot of different ways to give us, the players, meaningful rewards. In gw2, 99% of the time you will get junk and useless gear. Sure you can salvage them and sell it later but dude… If i kill a big-ass dragon with 40 other players i do not want to get a „powerful venom sac" or a „shitty rare mask" as a reward. Why can't we get meaningful rewards in this game? I do appreciate non-material rewards tho, like reaching a vista, however i still think the game lacks proper material rewards. The only meaningful rewards are skins, which leads me to the next point.

2.- Guild wars a.k.a Fashion wars

The game offers a lot of skins which is great but if you look at it closely you will notice one thing. Every route in the game leads to one thing: the skins, the fashion boiii. You farm metas to have some gold so you can convert it into gems and buy SKINS. You do fractals and you get SKINS. You do raids and you get SKINS. You do achievements and you get SKINS. Farming dungeon for SKINS. You buy gems and guess what you get…. SKINS?? SKINS!! Of course the game offers us a seperate wardrobe from the bank tab because we need a lor of space for the SKINS.

3.-Wanna play some micro games in your inventory?

You know whats coming, don't you? Yes, im talking about managing your inventory. Managing your inventory in this game is a nightmare, even with the deposit all function. There are a bazillion of lootboxes in this game. The worst thing when you open a chest and find two crates inside the chest. These two crates each contains another crate and in that crate you will find a bag. I swear to god, whoever had this idea have a serious Matryoshka doll fetish. Fck you, and fck your fetish!

4.-This game is definitely not beginner friendly

Unfortunatelly this is a common problem among mmos and this game is no exception. The game won't explain you anything, you have to figure it out yourself. You will constantly browse the wikipedia page of the game.

    5.- Very few pvp possibilities

Yes you can play WvW or Conquest. In WvW its either roam or zergfest. In conquest its either capture the objective or stronghold. Not much of a variety. other games, like wow has way more pvp possibilities. One thing i really miss is the dueling. I know you can duel in guild hall or in a custom game but its not the same.

6.- Living world all day, all night, every week

Please do not misunderstand me, i love the living world. My problem is that this is almost the only way of updating the game nowadays. How about adding new raids, new fractals, new pvp modes, new mini-games more often?

    7.- Lack of famous players

You won't find „Swifty level" famous players in this game. Every major mmo has some really famous players, they become iconic. Unfortunatelly, in my opinion there is no gw2 who could ever reach that fame like Swifty, Athene, Reckful, Vurtne etc. . That's a shame because this is a great way to advertise a game. Hm, this leads me to my next point…

    8.- Garbage marketing

You want to promote me this game in a poncho?! You want to advertise your game through Quiznos, which is a dying Sub-way rip off?! You want to make a bad short-film which does not look like the game at all?! Guild wars 2 is just terrible at marketing their own product. Their quality is bad, very bad. How about quantity then? I'm from Europe and the last time i saw a GW2 advert was when HoT launched. They need serious help at marketing. One of the main reasons why this game is such an underdog is the poor marketing.

    9.- The grind

Doing metas can be fun but after a while its just basically grind. Im aware that more grindy games (BDO) exists but i think meta events should be less grindy. A lot of players do not want to pay for gems, so they just grind the actual best meta. I think there should be a balance between meta event regarding to the loot. In addition i would make metas more challenging for players.

10.- The future are sagas, not expansions

You might disagree with me but it looks like the gw2 dev team thinks in sagas. In my opinion its better to drop a big impactful update to the game every 2 years than give the players small updates every 3 months. Moreover, an expansion has a better newsvalue than a living world episode. Maybe thats just me.

    10 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT GW2:

    1.-The graphics

This is a 7 years old game and it still looks stunning. I absolutely love the looks of this game. THis game has a better art stlye than younger mmos. You will find amazing scenery in HoT or PoF maps. Seriously, gw2 is a true virtual photo contest material. J

    2.- Best mount system EVER

The mounts in GW2 are revolutionary. In this aspect this game is way ahead of any mmo. Every mount feels different, every mount has a purpose. In this game mounnts are not just a way of traveling faster but the key of surviving situations.

    3.-Skins

Yes, i mentioned it in the other section but despite that i love skins. There are tons of skins in this game. You can even have skins for your glider or your mount. Plus the fact that you can dye every skin in this game is simply amazing. Hell you can even dye your mount!

    4.- The UI

The user interface of the game is just clean and simple yet elegant. Hey there is a reason why GW2 UI addon is one of the most popular wow addons. In other mmos like wow you need at least 5 addons to make your game playable. Well for GW2 you need zero addons. You can track your health, track dodges, set everything. Just nice and simple.

    5.- Combat system

Its in between tab target and action combat. It is just perfect for me. Not too slow, not too fast. Regarding to the combat gw2 has the perfect middle. Its like the middle between final fantasy and tera.

    6.- Story

Maybe gw2 do not have as deep story as wow or final fantasy but it's still great. Guild wars 1 and Guild wars 2 both have a great story and its worth to explore it. The game constantly updates the story via lw. You will have your personal story from the begining and the good news is: the story is not locked behind raids or other content, its very accessible.

    7.- The mini games

I love mini games like Keg brawl, Sanctum sprint or Belcher's Bluff. This is a thing i always adore in any mmo. It just makes the game more fun and more social. Gw2 has some really cool mini games.

    8.- Festivals

Its strange that a lot of mmos are bad at making festival events. Well gw2 has some of the best festivals in this genre. Wintersday or Super Adventure box are must play content. Other mmos could learn from arenanet.

9.- Elite specializations and the weapon system

Elite specializations are a great way to expand the play possibilites of a class. Because of elite specializations there are a lot of ways to play a class. In addition, by switching weapons you can switch your skills. This makes a huge variety of playstyles.

    10.- Community

Im sure this game has the best community i have ever met. Players of this game are usually nice and helpful. Just ask anything, im sure someone will answer your question. Of course in pvp there are some salt but it is nowehere near as much as in other games. Currently the community is the best marketing for this game and the core of the game.

Thank you for reading my wall post. What do you think?

Client crashes HoT story, anyone have fix?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2019 09:36 PM PST

As title states, I've been playing through the story for HoT. I've had 2 really bad disconnects..both at the end of a long story instances. Both also made me restart the entire instance. Does anyone have a workaround or fix? I see that people back in 2018 and further had similar issues.

Is it worth returning to GW2?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2019 03:24 AM PST

Hey all, I haven't played GW2 in ages, probably since it was released. Been looking for an MMO to get into again, and I heard good things about GW2. Buuuut looking at recent news it sounds like the game is getting a bit stagnant and potentially dying out?

How true is that? What's the current state of the game?
