Guild Wars 2 Quarterly earnings up in 2021!

Seems like guild wars 2 is doing incredibly well in 2021 and with the release of EOD coming up it'll only get even better.

It might even be back to earning more than when PoF released in 2017.

When PoF release it roughly earned 25 million USD in Q4. In q3 GW2 increased to roughly 18 million USD. This is a new high for 2021 for gw2.

Looks like an incredibly bright future for guild wars 2 if arenanet keeps riding this wave of excitement!

Could we get proper map icons for elites in PvP?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 03:33 AM PST

For the longest time now, elites have been shown as separate icons on pretty much everything (parties, squads and just when clicking on somebodys character).
This has never been the case for the minimap. Especially in sPvP it might actually be important to make out if a team member is using the core class or an elite spec, as sometimes I'd wanna know who is actually at that place without having to hover over the name and looking at the team panel!

Fractals and Raiding for a "Casual"

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 07:05 AM PST

TL;DR - In response to MightyTeapot's TeaTime (2021.11.08), I want to pose a question: where are the best resources to "git good" at Fractal and Raid game modes?

Here's some context on why this subject is personally applicable to me. I'm a new (and intentionally active) father and pursuing industry-related certificaates. This leaves little time to voluntarily sift through all the outdated and/or just bad content (I'm looking at Nike's meme here). We just need a quick "go-to" for how best to play each class, each role, and a commander's guide to delegating roles. Do these resources already exist, or does someone need to create this content?

Here are some of my "go-to" resources (and resources of resources) I've found and tried to collect in one place:

Can we get a new Elixir X for Engineer? I never liked the 50/50 gamble

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 10:52 PM PST

I have always played my engineer as my main since day 1 off GW2 and enjoyed every minute of it, but one thing that has never peaked my interest is the Elixir X. Having a 50/50 to become another classes elite and having no control of what transformation I will become.

And now that the Harbinger is getting elixirs and one that is significantly more useful and reliable than that of Elixir X.

I so hope that Anet will take a look at and change what this elite elixir does to fit more of a engineer theme than becoming another classes for a bit

    What DX11 is really like

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 06:19 PM PST

    I have an addiction.

To this skin. At this point, like half my characters are running this skin. It simply makes them look better.

I really wish ArenaNet was willing to put its game-directors into the community spotlight more often.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2021 07:04 AM PST

GW2 will always be one of my favorite games, but I no longer play as much as I used to.

Both Path of Exile and Final Fantasy XIV's game director / lead developer seem to value high-level community interaction way more than GW2 / ArenaNet does. End of Dragons is coming along, but it's genuinely difficult for me to get a sense for how excited ArenaNet is about their next expansion when the dual-game directors are MIA from a community perspective. It feels like they were introduced to great fanfare and then nothing.

As someone that's still on the fence about purchasing End of Dragons, I'd really love to see some combination of Colin Johanson, John Taylor or Josh Davis on Guild Chat or a Podcast to discuss the state of End of Dragons. I'm aware that Grouch (Josh Davis) was on a podcast w/ a developer named Raymond to discuss WvW, but it seems like the PvE side of things has been relatively quiet aside scheduled elite spec previews.

It's great that we've gotten excellent communication lately (eg WvW Beta Setbacks). However, I'd really like to hear how things are progressing from the top-brass; how do they feel about End of Dragons? What sort of challenges are they facing? Really just their general outlook on the 3rd expansion to follow HoT + PoF.

Chris Wilson was recently on a Path of Exile podcast to discuss the state of the game 2-3 months ago. Simultaneously, Naoki Yoshida (YoshiP) did an interview with Asmongold & Rich discussing EndWalker in Oct.

ArenaNet tends to take this really laid-back approach to community outreach. I can only speak for myself, but I'd really like to see some combination of Colin Johanson, Josh Davis or John Taylor on a community podcast to discuss the overall state of the game or End of Dragons. I feel like End of Dragons needs a front-man.

Right now I feel like they're scared to put any one persons name on EoD and it doesn't inspire confidence.

    • If I said Naoki Yoshida is Final Fantasy XIV.
    • If I said Chris Wilson is Path of Exile

These are evocative statements; that is to say, they have meaning to their respective player-bases. In the early days you could say that Colin Johanson is Guild Wars 2. These days it feels like we've got no one

I'm not asking for more awkward developers to step-up into the spotlight. If you're in the position of Game-Director or someone in a leadership position then at the bare minimum you need to have good communication skills; you should be able to relate to the GW2 team and players that play your game.

For the introduction of Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire I could say, "Mike O'Brien is Guild Wars 2."

It functions as a symbol of a game's success and well-being for one person to don that mantle. Right now, I feel that ArenaNet is hiding in case anything is poorly received, shirking off responsibility. It's a matter of pride in their product; in their 3rd expansion, and it'd be fantastic PR for someone to step into the spotlight and openly talk about End of Dragons. It's about confidence, perception, symbology and having pride in their work.

It doesn't necessarily have to be Colin. Josh Davis is in a community role too, and the elusive JT - John Taylor has been the Studio Director since 2016. That's a long-time to have been in a leadership position. Josh is basically the champion of the competitive side of the game; sPVP + World vs. World. I think we've been settling for less with the, "Judge us for what we ship," mentality for far too long. You want communication?

This is communication. This is meaningful community outreach. I want someone that's able to say:

This is Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons.

The DX11 just added years to the lifespan of GW2

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 09:31 AM PST

As someone who's played since GW1 I've always wondered what determines if AN continue with GW2 or develop a new game in the franchise.

The jump from 1 to 2 was a significant milestone because it fundamentally shifted the game from a mini instanced game to a larger instanced game. Despite my personal dislike of 'zones' they still seem to be a quite popular game architecture - and we can all agree the artists at GW2 do the zones justice and create interesting maps inside them. In particular the newer zones are smaller but denser and due to (what I think is an impeccable mount system) they have a lot more verticality.

A few months ago however I was convinced GW2 has a year or two tops of 'mmorpg spotlight' before other titles took over and a smaller but thriving player-base stayed behind similar to GW1.

However, the DX11 changes have breathed so much life into this game it's unreal. For some players with enthusiast systems getting 20fps in an old game with no complicated gfx is a huge turn off. I myself stopped playing until I heard about dx12proxy.

Whilst the mounts, constant new content, free-to-play, beginner-area-rehaul and other efforts have all added to the lifespan of GW2...Now that the game runs much better taking it out of that 'barely acceptable' spot into 'acceptable to impressive' category is a big deal.

I still think there's other areas of GW2 that need attention and I think that the long time it took and existence of 3rd party dx12 support was embarrassingly bad for AN. And lastly for those of you that don't know this the game is fundamentally build on GW1 and this has very real limitations to how far it can keep up long term.. But the fact that it was finally addressed and I can get 100+ fps in open world now should be celebrated and in my opinion will manifest as a longer lifespan.

Hi, i am quite new to the game and everything worked perfect but since yesterday i can't open the game. Launcher works perfectly fine, but when i press play, the GW2 icon pops up and i stare at my freezing desktop and i can't do anything. I've already tried repairing the game and some other solutions i've found on the internet, but nothing seems to work. Can someone help me?
