List of the biggest world shaping events that occur in Guild Wars

    Posted: 18 Aug 2021 01:59 PM PDT

I was hoping to hear some of the major events that people can think of from the first game that have a lasting impact on the world. I'm planning to do a Tyrian ttrpg campaign based on 5e with a lot of tweaks, but before our campaign itself which will be a heavily modified version of Tyria in the time period of gw2, I want to run through several one shots or short campaigns that will lay some of the groundwork and world building, and will be fun to reference to in the setting that's 200 years later. Right now I'm thinking of things like the foefire and the fall of Abbodan. What other events do you guys think would be great to run within a few session to lay groundwork and worldbuilding for future Tyria? I'll also do some midpoints with some of the events in the novels, so anything in the in-between could be great to hear about as well. Thanks in advance!

    Soul Taker weapon choice

    Posted: 18 Aug 2021 01:20 PM PDT

We have had Soul Taker for well over a year now. The skill basically brings Necro back from the brink, as they had become the worst caster DPS class(ignoring Smite, because Smite barely counts).

Consistently, our post-update cycle community had told people not to bother with Necromancer. Our guides highlighted it as a useless class:

https://gwpvx.fandom.com/wiki/Build:Team_-_7_Hero_Beginner_Team/Basics#Profession_choice (this is a PvE class guide pre-anniversary that is linked in this reddit's New Player guide and is a staple of PvX wiki's guidance for classes)

Prior to Soul Taker, Necromancer had only three "Great" PvE builds on PvX wiki, one of which was Orders Support which I have never seen a real player run, another the classic N/Rt healer we all let our heroes play, and the other was the most generic N/A Assassin's Promise PvE skill spammer imaginable, not meaningfully better than every other AP spammer in the game.

In other words, necro was a dead class outside of heroes and nostalgic players. Unplayed in SCs, PvP, and only used in PvE at large because of flavor/nostalgia. Curses, once the stalwart attribute choice, has entirely died in favor of Dom. Blood, even after an attempt by anet to salvage it in 2011, is still dead outside of Orders. Death is OK, but minions are really not fun for a player and arguably tamper with the meta hero build by giving enemies a bigger ball to nuke thus making ST spirits more at-risk.

If any class needed a "reboot", it was Necromancer. Soul Reaping is so good, but all 3 of their other attributes had fallen off too much to be useable.

Soul Taker fixed this: Necromancer is now a weird, explosive(maybe literally...) squishy hybrid melee-PBAoE Caster character. Soul Taker may be the single weirdest build in Guild Wars, but it is undeniably good.

But my question today is...what weapon do you necro players use? N/A dagger, N/D scythe, N/W axe, and N/W scythe(using anniversary scythe+Warrior attacks/Tactics) all have PvX Wiki "Great" builds(both N/W options are "in testing" seemingly perpetually, but are linked from N/D and N/A as if their inclusion in Great is inevitable). What are people actually using? What other builds have you tried and why did you settle on whatever you use? I'm very curious regarding what the Necro community has settled on as an optimal use of their savior anniversary skill.
