Dear Anet, please disable beta classes from Ranked sPvP

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 02:19 PM PDT

Heya guys, i want to preface this rant by saying i'm only speaking about ranked pvp, not regular/unranked.

I'm also aware that the general consensus on this subreddit is that sPvP is a "dead, bot-ridden game mode, that no one cares about, and that ranks don't matter" etc etc... But there are lots of players that care about their ranking, and care about the leaderboards. Even if you don't play the game mode, you can at least be considerate of others opinions.

    Zero consequences.

The biggest issue is that beta-players have absolutely zero consequence for playing ranked, since their progress isn't saved.

You can go into a hundred matches, troll, afk, feed, whatever... And it doesn't matter, it won't affect your main account in any way... But it does affect your teammates accounts that are genuinely trying to climb, since their progress IS saved.

The point of the ranked system is to create a genuinely competitive environment, where everyone playing is expected to be playing their best, and actually trying to win. At least in higher ranks.

Yeah i know the lower ranks are kinda broken and filled with bots, but at least once you're into platinum, you don't see as many bots or trolls, and it really does feel competitive.

People that do bot/troll, end up losing rank points very fast, and get demoted to lower and lower ranks, until they get stuck in silver, playing with/against other bots/trolls, and fair enough. It obviously isn't ideal for new players, but at least the system "tries" to stabilize itself.

If you want to goof around, by all means, go ahead... But you won't be able to do it consistently in platinum. It won't negatively affect the people taking it seriously and trying to climb the leaderboard.

The issue here is that players with a very high-ranking, already in high platinum, join with beta characters and start testing whacky stuff... And face absolutely zero consequences for it. They don't get demoted, they don't lose rank, they have nothing to lose at all on their main account.

All it does is hinder the balance and competitiveness for people that are actually trying.

Comparisons for why it feels shit.

So for those of you that don't really care about sPvP, and don't get what the big deal is... Please imagine this scenario:

You want to start a Fractal or Raid on the LFG... A beta-character with whacky gear/stats joins... But you aren't allowed to kick them out.

Doesn't matter if you're squad leader, doesn't matter if 4/5 party members vote to kick them... You simply can't kick them out. You're stuck with them, and now have to waste your time trying to carry them and beat the boss. You can't even leave and start a new group.

Not a very good situation right? It's practically the same thing.

Frankly i can't imagine any other game i'v ever played allowing something like this. Beta-testing is called Beta TESTING for a reason. You're meant to be testing something, not using it on a ranked ladder for the official version of the game.

If League of Legends suddenly allowed a new beta-champion to be played in Diamond ranked matches, people would lose their fucking minds, and drag Riot Games through the mud (rightfully so).

I realize most people don't take sPvP very seriously, and are thus either complacent or not bothered, but it's a very shitty design decision regardless.

The specs clearly aren't balanced around PvP yet, that's why the testing exists in the first place. No one knows how to play them properly, and no one knows how to play against them properly.

    Zero Counter Arguments.

I have yet to hear a single logical reasoning made by a player, nor have i ever seen anything similar by any other game or developer, for why continuing to allow this is beneficial.

They need a PvP environment to test things out? Yeah, i absolutely agree, but that's exactly what UNRANKED is for.

At the very least, if you insist on allowing them to continue playing on ranked, then AT LEAST find a way to save their progress, so they get demoted out of higher ranks, and makes them think twice about trolling, and incentivizes them to take the matches seriously.

Or give beta-players their own separate ladder, where they can fuck around and test things with other Beta Players, without affecting the official ladder.

There's a million other solutions. I'm sure Anet can find one.

It's just baffling and bizarre to me. I really don't understand it.

PSA to new players: You don't mess with Romperoo!

So a lot of people told me on my last post, that I am a hoarder, that my inventory isn't organized and that I have a lot of junk. That's why I made this, to proof that it is well organized and I use most of these items only daily basis!

    Fishing: A mostly serious speculation

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 08:10 PM PDT

Asura want me, fish fear me. The announcement of fishing has certainly seemed to be controversial one. Many people are definitely... Skeptical. But not me. ANet's announcement got me hook, line, and sinker.

So first, some things that I am almost entirely certain will be parts of fishing:

    1) a tie-in to the specialization ascended weapon collections. I'll eat my floppy yellow hat if this isn't the case.

    2) a way to accrue map currency/map-related crafting materials. Be it by trading in caught fish, or by directly reeling it in, I think this is very likely going to be a way to obtain map currency and items if you can't find large enough groups for metas.

    3) one or more collections related to obtaining all the different varieties of fish, which will probably yield a fun title like "Kingfisher" or "Master Baiter" or something. I will get this title, and use it EXCLUSIVELY.

    4) a new set of food.

Now the things that I would not be too surprised by, but are far more speculative:

    5) an encounter similar to the Treasure Mushroom that is a rare ocurrence when fishing, or occurs when someone with the appropriate mastery fishes in the area during an event window.

    6) certain drops (fish) tied to specific times or meta stages, so that you are likely to be fishing alongside other players to encourage fishing as a social experience.

    7) a daily or weekly "legendary catch," that will appear in a specific zone or body of water, and will have extra high value, and possibly a connection to upcoming legendaries or high-end collections. Also to encourange fishing to occur in specific places for social reasons.

Now unto the crazy guesses. I have no idea if these will be present:

    8) a couple mega rare drops like infusions, to inspire people who already have plenty of gear to fish.

    9) fishing "bosses" that require multiple people to reel in one behemoth at once.

    10) seasonal tie-ins, so you can fish for presents/trick or treat bags in certain event locations.

    Absolute fucko tier guesses:

    11) the final encounter will be a fishing minigame where you teach aurene to fish.

    12) there will be a set of fishing infusions that increase your fishing speed or fishing find value.

    13) fishing will start out as the highest yield gold farm in the game, and then get nerfed into oblivion.

    14) fishing will allow you to craft the new highest tier of gear, Wet.

All in all, I am quite excited to try fishing. I suspect it will work as a more fun and intentional version of the afk bauble farm, and will probably be a good way to pass time waiting for a meta or world boss to start. It will absolutely also have a bunch of collections. I WILL be starting a competitive level fishing guild.

Prepare thine reels, comrades. Today is a good day to fish.

GW2 needs profession quests that add class based cosmetic effects.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 12:16 PM PDT

In WoW, there was a questline for warlocks that allowed their fire skills and abilities to be green fire instead of red fire. It was super cool and the whole questline was super fun too. GW2 needs to have similar things in the game. Imagine being able to unlock the power of ghostfire on an elementalist and have your fire abilities be blue, or something that changes the color of mesmer abilities to be something other than pink. It could open up whole new avenues for fashion wars.

Edit: For everyone saying there is already existing ways to add new animations via legendaries, elite spec collections, or any other existing system. I know, but I'm talking about changing the color of already existing abilities. (Ex: Mesmer portal to be blue instead of pink)

    Disappointed with Willbender animations…

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 11:48 PM PDT

Am I the only one who feels extremely underwhelmed with the aesthetics of this spec? I just don't feel like I'm playing something all that different from what guardian already was.. All the animations minus whirling light are overused old ones that don't feel good or unique to the elite spec. It duel wields swords, yet retains the same old auto attack chain from normal guard. Can it be a special feature with just this spec where when 2 swords are equipped the auto attack is martial artsy looking and he actually uses both blades? Same for the sword 4, it is so underwhelming looking. All of the physical skills are very lackluster and all of them are copy pasted from daredevil. The punches look thuggish and not eastern martial arts inspired. Why not just make a new animations for flash combo that is just two nice looking eastern martial arts inspired punches rather than the mess that is fist flurry? It would be more of a reliable skill, and look better! I would really like to see a unique kung fu animation when striking with heavens palm as well instead of that finisher animation that has been beyond overused at this point. I really like whirling light, and if all the skills had more of a martial arts flair this class would feel amazing. I know it's a beta so maybe all this stuff I'm talking about is placeholder, but it really does break the immersion and believability of the elite spec. Hell even the monk in world of Warcraft mists of pandaria had loads of really cool martial arts inspired animations. I was praying to finally see that in guild wars 2
