Isn't it weird that no one have directly adressed The Ocean Dragon during the story since the begining Path of Fire?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2021 03:19 AM PDT

It became especially suspicous at the end of the Icebrood Saga. Taimi and Commander was like 'all the dragon magic is gone, but where could it be?'. Like, hello, for the entirety of the story, whenever a dragon died, the magic was absorbed by the other dragons. Shouldn't it be obvious that the magic was absorbed by the Ocean Dragon? But they were all puzzled for some reason and Taimi was like 'such a mystery. I have to spend months to find out where the magic is gone' It is so awkward. Also when you talk with her in Eye of The North, they talk about how they are low on dragons, so Taimi has to be close to Aurene for her research. I think there were some other instances too which they say they are low on dragons. However, no one ever directly says that "there is only ocean dragon left' No one ever mentions it. Wouldn't everyone's natural reaction after Jormag's and Primourdius' death be 'alright folks, there is only one dragon left. Let's check what we can do'? And for the record, they know that there is one ocean dragon remaining since Nomad's Machine. I hope there is a intended story purpose, because if it is only for the sake of being mysterious and not spoiling the story, they are kinda pushing it too far. My theory is that ocean dragon is a lot different from other dragons but they don't want to spoil it or ocean dragon itself is doing something to hide itself. Some people have mentioned how 'secrets' can be the ocean dragon's domain and it makes lots of sense. Aboddon's domain was also water and secrets, and Lyssa, who took the domain over the water is the goddess of illusions, which is again, a way of misdirection and secrecy. There is a connection between water and secrets. Third possibility is they are retconing the ocean dragon such as it is already dead, it's not the only remaining dragon, there actually have never been a ocean dragon etc. but I believe and hope that's not the path they will be following.

WvW Breakout Events (Siegecrusher, Siegerazer) need fixing

Power creep got these guys good. They used to be able to fend of swaths of players, now they're essentially useless. If the enemies have your towers and keep at t3, these guys should come out as legendaries with the drizzle wood coast siege engines, or something aggressive and powerful along those lines. By all means, reward the enemies with extra points for holding the land, but make it much harder for them to keep it away.

    I just found out...

    Posted: 26 Aug 2021 09:49 PM PDT

...that in order to craft a full set of wvw legendary armor you need to play 2-3 hours everyday for 22-29 weeks (7 months max). that feels like a job i couldnt possibly do.

so id like to ask here, did a casual (like only plays an hour or less daily in wvw) in this sub ever crafted a full set? how many years did it take?

Dear ANet, please please please don't increase enemy aggro to insane ranges in EOD maps

    Posted: 27 Aug 2021 07:57 AM PDT

After revisiting the Domain of Istan for the latest bonus achievements, I've been reminded how much I absolutely hate how large the aggro ranges of enemies became. When you're at the lift limit of the skyscale, I really don't expect enemies to still be chasing underneath! I know it's not supposed to be a safe area, but difficulty shouldn't be increased by forcing the player to pull mobs in from across the map!

Considering how beautiful Cantha is, I really hope that just stopping to take in the landscape isn't constantly interrupted by a red mist on the screen and battle music...or perhaps fishing spots have to be cleared of mobs in a huge area every few minutes. ANet have had a habit of increasing the ranges of enemies with every new map release, so I hope this trend ends with LWS4. I'm tired of playing The Floor is Lava! I don't want to play another set of maps where I just hop in, get my achievements, and never play them again. I've never heard my boyfriend shout "F&%# OFF!!!" as many times as he has in the LWS4 maps.

So please, for the love of actual fun maps, don't make Cantha anti-fun where people only want to go for achievements and legendary collections. I want to visit a map because I like it and want to return while not worrying about whether opening up the map for a second is going to get me killed...

Wow refugee experience of PVP in GW2, for my fellow refugee.

    Posted: 26 Aug 2021 07:00 PM PDT

    Hey everyone !

Following the WoW exodus, this post is aiming at my old wow brothers and sisters, to tell them my feelings about the game right now, but feel free to correct me on anything wrong i must have said, i'm still new and learning.First of all, let me quickly introduce myself. I'm a former so called WoW veteran (16 years playing that game) and above average PVP guy (2 rank 1 in legion and several glad since BC).I'm a die hard PVP mmorpg fan (Full loot like Albion Online or more chill like FF14 the Feast) and last week i've decided to try out GW2 after severals friends told me it was their best PvP experience. I'll try to breakdown my thoughts into different points to make it more clear.

    1 : Accessibilty

Well, you just can't do best than GW2 at this point. being able to queue PVP at level 3 which take literally 3 min after character creation with equalized stats is just a BLESS for a lazy guy like me.There is definitely a HUGE learning curve regarding runes/amulet/archetypes but just being able to log/queue/play/dc and do that all day every day without being worried about character progression or side requirements is 10/10. That's what gaming is about, INSTA FUN.As of today with the free trial version, i only miss 1 thief archetype, but it doesnt really matter much since game is pretty cheap and there is no sub, at some point i'll just buy it.

    2 : Gameplay

Well, gameplay wise, it plays like WoW + Eso and it's actually reall cool. I love action combat based game (1y of BnS) and dodge definitely level up the skill ceilling the game has to offer compare to WoW. Animation and movement are standard, and there is a lot of intricacies regarding jump that i'm loving so far (except not being able to jump and use a spell mid-air feelsbad mlg360 p/d vital shot). The skills also have a " combo " system where different spell will give you special interaction which make it lovely. The really bad point for me is that unclear and totally ugly non-customizable UI which doesn't really make any sens to me in 2021. I'm not talking about WoW addons / WA like, but more like what GW1 had to offer or FF14 build in UI modifier (Move all stuff where you want and make it bigger or smaller )Target top middle choice with the small class symbol is just BAD and group is so small, you just have to look all over your screen to have all necessary information (Buff/target/map/groupes) it's not just friendly at all.

At least the level design of each PVP map is pretty cool. There is a lot of good kiting/jump spot like old vanilla/bc bg's where clever people like Vurtne used to take advantage of the map to pop off. it's the little touch that make it interesting

    3 : Economical model :

Well, i'm playing on a free version and having a lot of fun, that should tell you everything you need to know. There is definitely a cash shop with mostly skin and few QoL here and there, but it doesnt affect PVP and same as shitty wow token, you can transfer your gold into shop currency (cristal) and vice versa. I totally hate it personnaly but it's modern gaming KEKW. Compare to others mmo, it's fairly ok since there is no sub.

    4 : Community

Well well well, it's either love or hate as usuals BOYS. I've had as much welcoming and genuinely cool people trying to help me and being happy seeing new pvp boy in town, as huge retard and toxic assholes spamming insult in chat or in the PVP zone general chat. I don't know what to say. It's the same in every pvp game since Pong in the 70's.However, the community definitely feel "small" right now. I started the game 6 days ago, currently Plat 1 which place me around top 1000 or smth like that. Not much people queing ranked game i guess, and you're facing the sames guys over and over, especially late in the evenings.

    5 : PVP modes / Ranked

It's not bad, it's not perfect. You have the standard 5v5 conquest mode like Gilneas (3 points control) and each map has unique objectives to spice it up, it's pretty cool tbh. There is also a MOBA like mode (Feel liks Smite) but since it's not in ranked queue, people usually avoid it. I'm still having a lot of fun in it.For ranked you have standard 5v5 conquest where you can queue solo/duo, and each 3 hours there is a tournament where you can queue as a 5 man team which is definitely a good thing for premade pvp (SQ is fun but cancer in the long term). Each month there is also a kinda like big tournament streamed by arenanet specifics partner which is really cool coming from WoW. i'm myself a tournament organizer and Blizzard love to shit on their content creators so it's refreshing to be able to do stuff as a community. There is also the iconic World vs World mode (Big badaboom battle) but it need level 80 and decent gear to not get destroy since it's not equalized, however you can have a decent gear for it (exotic level) just by doing PVP, even though it's not the BiS gear, it's still ok enough to have fun from time to time. And the 2vs2 / 3vs3 mode but they're not "permanent" it's only in interseason which make me sad but hey, can't have everything i guess.Sidenote : If you use to love RBG in wow, you'll have no problem understanding how conquest ranked mode work, it's really similar to some extend. Map control, match up knowledge, out rotation, outnumber fights and objectives centrics. That's why i'm feeling really confortable in the game right now even if i i only have 30h+ playtime in GW2 so far.Sidenote 2: Somehow LOT OF AFK and DC people in ranked. It might be me being unlucky but god damn people told me they're usually unpunished so it's feels like playing League of legends bronze all over again. A few times, after 2 min of a game if someone don't feel it he'll just afk and tell the team to fuck off, it's just wierd.

    6 : Rewards

As you're doing PVP, you're also getting a ******* lot of chest (ressources, gear ...) but i'm usually just selling everything cuz i hate bag management. This game as like a billion PVP rewards and i can't really tell if it's good or not. Items, title, mascot, execution. I still have a lot of stuff to discover so this point is still meh to me.

That is all for now.For me this past week has been a blast and i definitely recommand any pvp guy to at least give this game a try especially since you can try it for free. Can't tell if i'll stay forever but for now, it's an interesting game with high skill floor and high skill ceilling. If you can get past the TONS of information you'll have to face the first 2 day, you'll definitely have some fun.Thank you for reading till here, sorry for my english as i'm french, it's sometime pretty hard !Looking forward to pump my rating and lear differents class/archetypes and weapon template.Have a great day/night !

Edit 1 :I forgot to add the horizontal gear progression system like ESO, where you can afk severals years and still have relevant gear, OH BOY this gave me goosebump by typing it. I feel like i've manage to get out of my hamster wheel and explore the world as a free man.

Current Gemstore discounts are consistent with previous expansion year sales

    Posted: 26 Aug 2021 12:14 PM PDT

Noticed that a lot of people are disappointed with the amount of discount offered during the August sales (myself included :c), but I felt it should be mentioned that if you look at the Wiki page same items on the sale during other expansion years (2017, 2015), they are the same discounts as this year.

It's not something new - it always happened when there's a new expansion coming out.

The real issue with WvW Tickets/Participation Rewards

    Posted: 27 Aug 2021 08:00 AM PDT

I have seen a few posts the past couple weeks about WvW rewards and specifically the acquisition of legendary armour. I have recently started getting my legendary armour from WvW and had enough tickets saved up to get my first piece. To add some context, I have been playing since launch and I am Silver WvW rank so WvW hasn't been my main game mode, but I have jumped in regularly over my 5000 hours of time with the game. I think anyone can expect legendary armour to be gated and require time and resources to craft. Unfortunately the WvW armour ends up taking the longest to acquire by a good margin. It is worth noting that both the PvP and Raid armour have a much higher reliance on your skill and can take longer if you struggle in those game modes. But if we set that aside and just look at the time investment, WvW requires more time and more importantly doesn't value your time effectively.

If we use 5 pips per tick as the low end, it will take approximately 24h of play time to max out that week. The problem is, the first 10h15m of play time will get you 82 tickets and the last 10h15m will get you 233 tickets. This makes the time exponentially worse if you can't put the full amount in each week. If we bump the pips up to 10 by being out numbered that cuts the time in half and makes the whole thing far more palatable. The game will still reward you far more in the final hours, but at least the time it asks for each week is lower.

Unfortunately, this leads into another problem which is a lack of participation options in the pip system. For the past 2 weeks, I have logged in almost every night and played for at least two hours. During that time I have jumped into every map in WvW and not once in the past two weeks have I been outnumbered. The system needs to have more options for participation and bonus pips. Currently as long as your participation is at three or higher, you get pips, below that and you get none. The systems doesn't reward you for actually participating. Why not give one pip for each level of participation, encouraging players to actually play and stay at maximum participation. Why not give a pip if the player has repaired a wall that tick, or helped build a siege weapon. The point is, the system needs more ways to get pips, and ways that are reliant on your participation and not on the luck of being outnumbered.

Anet could balance the ticket distribution so the early hours are more rewarding for players who can't put in a lot of time each week and increase other rewards at the later stages for the players who can. They could also add more options for getting bonus pips so that your actual participation plays a role in the time it will take to acquire the tickets.

If we compare the current method with Raids, it's no contest. Not only is the total time required for the Raid armour much lower, but the investment of time on a weekly bases is lower as well. If we use 10 pips per tick, you are looking at 12h a week for 22 weeks or 29 weeks for the shiny set. This means 264h for the normal set or 348h for the shiny set. Raid time will vary based on the skill of your group, but MightyTeapot did a run of all bosses in under 2h20m with a super safe composition. If we say it will take 5h per week for six weeks by trading Legendary Divinations the total time comes to 30h. What if we don't trade the legendary Divinations, then it will take ten weeks coming to 50h. What if we are generous and say it takes 10h per week, we are still only spending 60h or 100h respectively. Plus the raid method can be stretched longer with a lower investment of time by just completing the easy encounters each week. Completing 6 to 7 encounters a week would get you the Raid armour in less than six months. The same can't be done with WvW, if you could only complete through the Silver rewards each week, it will take more than a year and half to get the WvW armour.

I am not comparing cost here, as there are other elements that go into each set, and I acknowledge that I am making a lot of assumptions when it comes to players completing Raid encounters. But from a time spent and time value perspective the WvW system doesn't compare. It requires more time upfront, more total time, it's more restrictive in the time allotted and relies on a pip system where your participation barely matters.
