Unrewarding chests gives the game a bad look for new players

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 01:37 AM PDT

I'm talking the random ones you found in core, the ones at the end of a Jumping Puzzle, etc.

Often times when I help new players and find a chest they are excited, only to find out there is nothing of value in it.

Those experience happen early on, so it gives a bad look for the game onwards, imho.

GW2 needs some kind of questlog for certain collections

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 08:38 PM PDT

After playing the game and falling in love with it since the original GW I think that the lack of a proper questlog for certain story driven collections is holding back a huge potential. Not only would some sort of separate story journal serve as a quality of life feature but also allow players to get a better feeling of what content can be found in the game. Many collections hide interesting stories and provide a feeling for the world of Tyria. (Eg Skyscale)

    Decrease Player Skills Particle Effects

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 06:57 AM PDT

Hello, I am fairly new to GW2. Coming from FF14, there is an option there to reduce the player skills particle effects. It makes it a lot easier to see the enemies attacks. Does GW2 have a similar option? I have a hard time seeing the boss with all the stuff going on from other players. Plus it drops my framerate hard.

Also, is there a way to make the enemy telegraphed attacks easier to see? I sometimes struggle seeing their attacks and have to zoom in on my character.

    Thanks

GW2Radial custom menu - Equipment and build templates

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 03:44 PM PDT

Edit: To be clear, I am not the creator of this addon, nor is this an update to the addon itself, it's just something I set up within their framework

    Hey all,

The 2.0 alpha of GW2Radial supports custom menus, and I figured what better use for this than a radial menu for equipment and build templates!

So I spent a little time yesterday making two configs and creating some icons, and now I present the build and equipment radial menus: https://gfycat.com/wearyfastape

All you have to do to set this up yourself is download these zip files:

Build templates: https://drive.google.com/file/d/18Aj1Jpepk8to9XUpGTTiwz6bk3D3D-ej/view Equipment templates: https://drive.google.com/file/d/188VwW5XaoSfduluycqWDvNyl_ZhLRJIL/view

And then place these zip files in the following folder in your GW2 installation folder: /addons/gw2radial/custom/ (No need to unzip!)

The /addons/ and /gw2radial/ folders should already exist if you have GW2Radial installed and booted the game with it once. The /custom/ folder you'll have to create yourself. (in my case it's here: C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\addons\gw2radial\custom)

Afterwards you should have two new menu's in your GW2Radial settings menu (CTRL + ALT + M), there you can set up your own keybinds and customize it to your heart's content! (pro tip: only bind the templates you actually use, then it will only show those in the menu, like this)
Alternatively, if you're already ingame you can simply open the settings menu and press the "Reload custom wheels" button in the "Misc" tab and the tabs should appear.

Keep in mind: This requires the GW2Radial 2.0 alpha!

For anyone curious, these are my GW2 template keybinds and GW2Radial settings: build / equipment. (I have Right CTRL bound to one of the buttons on my mouse for easy access)

If you don't have GW2Radial yet, you can find the installation instructions here: https://github.com/Friendly0Fire/GW2Radial, just make sure to use the 2.0 alpha linked above.

And if you want to customize it, or create your own custom menus, you can find the instructions for that here: https://github.com/Friendly0Fire/GW2Radial/tree/master/custom_examples

Many thanks go to the creator of GW2Radial, /u/TSP-FriendlyFire, for making this so simple to set up!

Does GW2 respect player's time and achievements?

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 02:01 PM PDT

Hi Im a new player. I just wanted to start by saying that I really love how quests work in this game, there is a lot of freedom and quests themselves are very interesting even though they are from like 2012 I had more fun than in all recent MMORPGs I have played in a while.

That being said one day I will do all stories that I find interesting and reach max level. Im wondering how much grinding there is for endgame gear or like "power systems". I had some bad experiences with WoW where I would do all these grinds and get almost BiS gear, good arena rating and literally 2 months later Im back to zero. I don't want to play games like this anymore and I just want to focus on fun from playing the game. Im wondering if GW2 is this type of the game.

Full Harbinger comp: a proof of concept

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 12:57 AM PDT

EDIT 3: A big thanks to everyone who provided feedback and suggestions. There is now a bit of a discussion going on whether the 37% increased boon duration mentioned by CmC was actually boon duration, or whether he meant increased condition duration. Reason is the reveal shows a precise 5s boon duration on the elixers, which would make for a very weird base duration of these boons (between 3.56s and 3.74s), wheras the conditions shown on the Harbinger actually make sense for an increased condition duration of 37% (such as 8.25s torment on Shroud 2, which can line up with a base duration of 6s). Only way to know for sure is testing it out tomorrow when the beta launches.

The TL;DR: if it was actually boon duration, full Harbinger comp is not possible for full boon uptime, if it was actually condition duration and CmC mispoke, it is viable with about 60% boon duration (further discussed down here).

Still a thanks to u/Hasarian for starting the discussion on the mentioned extended boon duration in the reveal video, and u/MGP42 for noting my Alacrity calculations were wrong.

With the reveal of the Harbinger spec last Friday many of you might have already wondered on whether Harbinger could be a viable boon support spec in instanced PvE and some might already have done the math on that. I was mostly interested in the use of the elite skill (Elixer of Ambition), and did some quick math to show this can work in a full Harbinger comp rather easily.

Let me first say that IF this comp works it's a meme and won't be anywhere near a useful as a normal comp, however I think it is viable in that you can clear most end game content with it with a skilled group. Secondly I don't usually build craft stuff to this extend, so I'm sure that the build can be improved further, let me know!

    Elixir of Ambition

For now we assume a base boon duration on elixer for 5 seconds. At this moment, EoA gives all boons for 5 seconds, with a 60 second CD. With the major adept trait Vile Vials this CD gets reduced to 48s. Now assume the plan works and we have 100% boon uptime including Alacrity, the CD would get further reduced by 20% to 38.4seconds.

With major master Twisted Medicine the boons are shared with 5 persons, so a standard party consisting only of Harbingers would need to share the boon for 38.4 / 5 = 7.68 seconds per party member to keep everything up. That means with only 60% increased boon duration boons can be maintained (5 * 160% = 8 seconds)!

    Build setup

The easiest way to set this up if with full Plaguedoctor gear. This gives 633 concentration = 42.2% boon duration. Through the increased vitality from Plaguedoctor plus Harbinger minor master Alchemic Vigor (total = 2533 vitality) and the concentration gain from Twised Medicine (13% of vitality to concentration), this yields another 329.3 concentration, resulting in a total 962.3 concentration and 64.2% boon duration.

This leaves two specializations free, the Harbinger major grandmaster trait, heal skill, all utility skills, and weapon skills to optimize DPS and adapt to encounters. Given that we run Plaguedoctors I would run Curses and Soulreaping plus condition damage runes/sigils.

    Sustain

The only thing I am unsure about is whether this comp can out-sustain encounters. However keep in mind we now have full uptime of protection and resolution, resistance to negate stuff like vulnerability, 5 blocks per 36 seconds, and 5 stacks stability per 8 seconds. The 20% reduced maximum health through the Blight mechanic is offset by the increased vitality from Plaguedoctors and regen will be a powerful healing source with the increased Healing Power. If that is not enough the party could maintain Well of Blood continuously and one party member could run Blood magic instead of Curses.

    Notes

    • Naturally the comp only works well if it can stack, as I assume there is a small range for sharing boons from elixirs.
    • Whether Harbinger Shroud can be used offensively or needs to be used for its healing potential will depend on the encounter and the party skill.
    • To attain full boon uptime, good communication is needed to make sure every party member activates EoA in sequence, otherwise boons that don't stack in duration (Might/Stability) won't last long enough. After the initial sequence is pulled of everyone can fire EoA off CD.
    • I am sure other gear setups might work as well of even be better. Plaguedoctors is probably the safest way to set this up, but Seraphs is a more DPS oriented version and perhaps a Power-based comp is also possible. The only requirement is that 60% boon duration is reached, plus the comp can provide enough sustain/healing as there is no dedicated healer.
    • I noted Major Grandmaster Doom Approaches says you gain an "aura" that applies torment over time. If this is actually an aura (mechanically speaking), it might be possible to switch to Runes of Radiance and more Viper gear to extend the duration of this aura for further DPS increase. This is very unlikely however.

I would love to test this in the upcoming Beta but unfortunately my whole guild is on holiday. If someone plans to test/run a comp like this please let me know how it went!

Is anyone else completely unable to enjoy engineer because of how important kits are?

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 08:21 AM PDT

I'm personally a huge fan of artificer-like classes in games, using technology in a magical setting. The flavor has always been incredibly compelling to me. But for Engineer, it feels like the entire class fantasy is hamstrung by how you absolutely HAVE to play the piano swapping between kits constantly with cooldowns memorized in order to even play it half decent.

I really like the recent changes to Scrapper and want to play it more in raid settings, but the fact I just HAVE to use kits in order to be anything close to relevant is such a chore. I don't want to use these weird alternative weapons that don't even use my skins I've spent thousands of gold on. It seems like such a minor issue, but it really just does suck a lot of the fun out of the class for me. Does anybody else agree?

    Confusing Customer Support

    Confusing Customer Support

So I tried to download GW2 again to catch up on content before the new expansion, and upon trying to log in was given an error message to contact support because my account had been locked for me due to security reasons.

I reached out to support via a ticket and was asked for a lot of stuff, serials keys, order numbers, emails, and credit card numbers, in order to verify my identity. I was able to track down a lot of the stuff; all of my serial keys for the base game and expansions as well as the emails used back then. The original order number from 9 years ago, etc. I was even able to provide the original purchase date, Aug 26, 2012.

    https://preview.redd.it/59p49vkdeqh71.png?width=1913&format=png&auto=webp&s=8898ec490c95e28dd1c3c66aeb0bea06d353bf0a

The reply I received to that info was unexpected. They still claimed that it was still not enough info to verify that I am the owner of the account! How could I possibly remember the last 4 digits of a card that I used to purchase something 9 years ago! I've been through 5 or 6 cards since then!

Has anyone encountered this stuff? Is this even the real support team? What is going on here?

Can we get the option to favourite crafting recipes?

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 12:30 PM PDT

I don't understand why this is still not possible. It makes it so I don't actually wanna add as much recipes as possible because the useless ones can distract, which is sad for collecting.

It's such a basic feature in other mmos.

    jump puzzle convert

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 04:14 PM PDT

I'm new to this game (played WoW for several years but stopped before the Panda race), and I admit I haven't been too keen on jump puzzles. HOWEVER, I just got to Lion's Arch, and the puzzles there are AMAZING!!! I cannot believe the time, creativity, cleverness, and pure artistry that went into crafting that area. I feel like I owe the game an apology for glossing over what turns out to be such an innovative and fun part of the experience. I just keep finding more and more content to love! At some point I'm going to have to figure out class specialization. To be honest, I think I probably suck as a player, but maybe that's what makes a truly great game. I can suck and still have fun!

Sorry for blathering, just wanted to get that off my chest.
